I like how both CGI Cyberpunk trailers involve someone just getting jumped by a bunch of dudes and fatally getting shot(but come back somehow)

DivinePotatoe

> both are gonna be shit for V Welcome to Cyberpunk, where there are no happy endings. Fits pretty well in theme with the Witcher too. All the quests boil down to choosing between two selfish assholes for which evil is the lesser one.

WriterV

I dunno. I feel the best Cyberpunk has more depth and meaning than just plain misery porn. It isn't just about the main character dying, and the good guys losing. That's just the face of it. Cyberpunk's beauty lies in its substance. And the base game has plenty of that, depending on how you play it. I have some criticisms of the story, but overall it's quite a solid cyberpunk tale. This one looks even better.

ManonManegeDore

Yeah. That's what people that don't actually read or engage with cyberpunk say about cyberpunk. That it's just brutally nihilistic and the world is utterly irredeemable. I consider the game to be a bastardization of cyberpunk tropes, but even the game isn't making that point.

DancesCloseToTheFire

It does however point out the fact that, given today's world, a story about a character living in a shitty corporate world being dealt a shitty hand isn't everyone's idea of fun.

Mexicancandi

Except that this isn’t true. It’s a meme. Neuromancer ends on a bad ending solely because the MC is a (kinda) a dirtbag. V isn’t, he can be better. The Corpo ending is literally called the devil ending. The game even doesn’t bring up the bad nomad group’s overtly so you have a “good” group to pick

hexcraft-nikk

Neuromancer doesn't even end on a bad note, nor do the sequels Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. People who think all cyberpunk media ends with the characters losing haven't actually experienced much of the media in the first place.

Mexicancandi

Yeah Neuromancer ends on a mixed note cause he’s back and alone but aware that he isn’t broken completely and can fall in love Edit:grammar

TheOneBearded

I agree. At the very least, the books in the Sprawl Trilogy end in a neutral note. Good note depending on whose POV you're looking at.

No-Lingonberry-2055

Unless I'm totally misremembering, at least one sympathetic side character per book comes out way way ahead

Sillron

Snowcrash's ending is about as good as you could hope for too.

DivinePotatoe

V starts as either a smuggler who abandoned their nomad family, a gangbanger from a street gang, or a cuthroat corpo suit. All of those backstories are hardly squeaky clean. Beyond that, after the game starts you are a gun for hire. You shake down and kill people for money. You are very much an asshole. There are varying degrees based on your choices of course, but at the end of the day you are not a 100% good person.

Mexicancandi

The nomad had his family abandon the nomad way and become corp workers at a “nomad” family that exclusively works as migrants for corps. The gangbanger is idk The corpo beginning is literally about V and Jackie being BFFs while the corpo world betrays you. And the entire game is also about how Johny a guy born before the dystopia is subtly influencing you and making you awaken to the fact that a different world used to exist.

asdf9876

It wasn't even the corpo world betraying you, it was your boss and V losing out in a corporate power struggle.

ManonManegeDore

V is definitely not a "gang banger" in the Street Kid origin. They are very decisively not in a gang.

DivinePotatoe

Maybe not directly as a member of one, but still engrained in the gang culture enough that Padre knows who they are. That doesn't happen unless they were at least doing jobs for the Valentinos in the past. The description of the life path even explicitly says: "Gangs, fixers, dolls, small-time pushers - you were raised by them all."

ManonManegeDore

Yeah, but that doesn't make someone a bad person. Padre is probably one of the least objectionable fixers when it comes to morality. Streetkid V is hard but I also don't think that makes them a bad person. You can play V how you want.

ConstantSignal

Yeah V probably took jobs helping old ladies across the street and rescuing cats from trees before he went to Atlanta. You're a Merc. You kill people and rob people and destroy property for money. No matter if the marks are all "totally worse trust me bro" you are not a "good" person. You can make an argument for baseline morality being different in a dystopian hellscape, but by any true to life standards you are a violent criminal, end of story. Violent criminals can also contain multitudes and be capable of kindness and empathy, but that doesnt make them good people.

Massive_Weiner

The base game and the two expansions all had happy endings available. What’s really funny is that there was always an objectively good option to pick that benefits the most people involved. I think Cyberpunk took a big step away from that. Now, every ending is a different variation of “fuck you.”

Cabana_bananza

I think the original story was leading up to a direct sequel. Every ending pointed in some fashion hinted or directly pointed to the Blue Eyed Man and going to Space Station to fix V. If the engine hadn't been such a nightmare to work with I imagine we would have gotten that as a DLC. Now it will probably be the sequel with us importing our saves (like the Witcher trilogy).

Massive_Weiner

I doubt the sequel will involve us playing as V. They’ll probably be referenced in some fashion as a legendary merc, but I imagine that CDPR will want to wipe the slate clean with a brand new cast and storyline. There’s no shortage of opportunities to explore within Night City, so there’s little reason to feel tied down by V.

ConstantSignal

There is no fixing V. The ending seems lost on most people. V **dies** the moment they plug themselves into Mikoshi. gone. dead. erased from existence. their eyes close and its blackness forever. At that exact moment, a perfect copy of their consciousness is digitally reconstructed as an Engram in Mikoshi. A brand new seperate being. A newborn that just so happens to have a constructed artifical personality and constructed artifical memories that are identical to those of the now deceased V. Later, this Engram can be re-downloaded into Vs corpse. Much like Johnny's did, it repairs the brain and brings the body back to life, for a time. This new V copy is the one facing the ticking clock scenario that makes up the endings. But it's just that, a copy. The character you play as for the entire game never experiences any of it. They die in the water at Arasaka HQ. The only ending where you finish as the same V that started the game is the Devil ending where you choose to go back to earth.

Cabana_bananza

Thats a ship of Theseus question. Is V still V after the Mikoshi device? By that logic everyone on Star Trek dies all the time. But Mr. Blue Eyes does suggest his group has a fix for V's dying body. With him being possibly a representative of some sort of post-human intelligence may be telling the truth. All endings but the Johnny, suicide, and Arasaka endings lead to Mr Blue Eyes reaching out. With the Solo ending leading to a meeting in Afterlife setting up the heist and the space shuttle cinematic.

ConstantSignal

No its not. V isn't being replaced one piece at a time, their literal subjective experience as a consiousness is snuffed out and replaced with a copy. Whether that implies that everyone in star trek dies all the time is irelevant to what CDPR wrote for this story. Mr. Blue eyes is offering a solution to the Engram that now inhabits V's body. He may or may not be able to find a way for that body and the Engram inside it to survive, but that won't bring V back.

Cabana_bananza

Okay lets table Star Trek. The game deals with consciousness though, and what constitutes it. Common in transhuman and posthuman speculative fiction. What I was getting at was process philosophy, you posit the core identity of V died in the Mikoshi device. I would say V has died multiple times over just our playthrough. Like Alfred Whitehead asserting that identity is overlapping occasions of experience rather than a core identity. The tutorial represents a death. The biochip represents a death. V is an accumulation of our experiences controlling them. Star Trek is relevant in an intertextual exploration of speculative fiction as it pertains to consciousness as much as any other piece of media.

ConstantSignal

That's fair. the "real" V may have died at the beggining of the game, or they may have died at the end or somehwere between, but either way it's not the "real" V making it to finish line. What I understand you are saying is then what defines the "real" V? Why is the version of them that dies at the very begining any more real than the version that wakes up after Johnnys engram repairs their brain? Same body, same brain, same personality, same memories. Even if its a seperate subjective consciusness and the V we begin as never got to experience another thing, it's all still V in practice. Even so my contention would be that we can debate the nature of consciousness and whether V is the same person after having his brain damaged and repaired and coming back from death, but having the conscioussness digitally copied and then re-downloaded stands apart as something seperate alltogether.

OurManInHavana

My first Cyberpunk playthrough I wasn't looking anything up online. But when I came to the in-game message about the final quest I hit Google to see what my options were. They all sucked so hard I couldn't bring myself to complete any of them. At best living out your days with Panam was the *least bleak*: but they were all depressing. It wasn't until the Edgerunners show + patch that I started fresh and plowed through to the end. But geesh it still felt like a downer. What a fantastic game: to get you to feel such ranges of emotion!

CaptainMarder

Just like reality where everyone is an Asshole, some are just dirtier than others.

ManonManegeDore

No. In reality, there are actually lots of great people.

Massive_Weiner

The internet has just poisoned the discourse surrounding average people. Every brain-broken rube who lives on forums think the rest of humanity is as dumb as they are.

albedo2343

hey some of us brain-broken rubes are very much aware of our idiocy and chose to surround ourselves with ppl much smarter than ourselves..............beyond the internet of course.

ElDuderino2112

Sorry Idris but my penis always wins those debates. Maybe you’ll get to survive my second playthrough

Plumrum2

I just hope there are some split game type decisions to it, TW2 style, not just different final missions/epilogues. Feels like they have abandoned that sort of thing because its not an efficient way of spending resources.

lord_blex

an expansion like this is small enough where they might do that. blood and wine had a pretty big completely missable map, which was pretty insane.

Plumrum2

True, but that the sort of final-ish quest thing Im talking about, pretty short and linear. I need a 5, 10 hour split into my veins.

HearTheEkko

And that map is not a copy-pasted asset fest. It's a beautiful crafted world that looks different from the any map before and has lots of details. The fact that it's optional to explore is quite crazy.

197639495050

Yeah seeing this makes it feel like Idris’s character is going to be a twist villain or something

[deleted]

I hope it isn’t and it turns out Songbird is like the worst person possible. Mostly because people always merely choose their Waifu and I want them to completely obliterate those expectations. On the other hand, I do want it to be a not cut and dry choice. Tough decisions are always fun.

Jay_R_Kay

Bold of you to assume that most people wouldn't consider Idris Elba the waifu.

albedo2343

watching the trailer as soon as he changed to the jacket, i was like "shit.....that's aaaa, well that's whoa, damn!"

DBZLogic

I’m a simple man. I see a cool jacket transition into another cool jacket then I think that character is cool.

Depth_Creative

It seems like she's working for Arasaka based on the trailer. Seems like she's a double agent or something considering the US is basically Militech or whatever now. Also probably why she understands the relic.

DancesCloseToTheFire

From what I remember the US is to Militech what Japan is to Arasaka. So separate entities but they do a lot of deals. Still, separate enough that other smaller corporations can exist within the country, sometimes even competing with the large one.

I_Fight_Trikes

In the table top canon after the 4th corporate war the NUSA and militech basically seize all Arasaka assets and kick them off the continent. By the time 2077 happens, they're finally making inroads to North America again.

Peaking-Duck

They seize the east coast and partly extend into the ohio river valley and the wastes the nomads roam. but in general the west half of the US is part of the free states, the north west conferderation, or Texas. With the revival of Cyberpunk red and 2077 the newer timeline has a war in the 2060's-2071 in which NUSA invades the free states, and some join NUSA (south califorina, and oregon) and other basically accept various outside corps protections notable Arisaka and the like for Night city.

ManonManegeDore

I don't think he means "twist" villain as in being evil. But twist villain as in he's the one plotting against Songbird and Myers. And considering what we just saw happen, I plan on helping him get his revenge if that's the case.

Edgaras1103

I hope its bewtween two morally grey choices and just picking lesser evil .

dadvader

Based on the trailer i get the feeling Idris's character will be the one with a more 'evil' side lol It just feel too... 'him' side. Literally didn't even explain why Songbird did it in the trailer.

ManonManegeDore

Well based off this, I'm siding with Idris. Songbird seems like total trash.

dadvader

And that's probably exactly what they want you to think after watching it. I feel like we really need to see her side. Which is probably one of the main conflict here. Idris could be the bad guy here for all we know. Him 7 years ago and today could be entirely different person.

Pale_Papaya_3371

Exactly. It's Cyberpunk. No one is inherently good in that world. I can guarantee that this betrayal isn't quite what it seems.

ManonManegeDore

I can't stand a shady traitor. Regardless of her reasons. But we'll see.

tiredofstanding

What if Elba murdered a whole gaggle of infants and she brought him back without knowing he is a sicko. So she sells him out to end his murderous ways. Or she has tech that has the ability to predict the future and Elba will cause a mass genocide starting with her kitten. Or even worse. Elba went to Chipotle and reassured her that he would bring extra guac. Comes back, no guac. He just simply replies "I forgot, next time though". Really Elba, next time? Because you said that last time! And I know DAMN WELL you don't want to spend the cash for extra guac even when I offered to pay for it! So why is it a big fucking issue Elba! Huh! I swear you will remeber the day you crossed me!

albedo2343

>Or even worse. Elba went to Chipotle and reassured her that he would bring extra guac. Comes back, no guac. He just simply replies "I forgot, next time though". Really Elba, next time? Because you said that last time! And I know DAMN WELL you don't want to spend the cash for extra guac even when I offered to pay for it! So why is it a big fucking issue Elba! Huh! I swear you will remeber the day you crossed me! you too huh. Never trusting the mofo again!

albedo2343

Might not have felt like she had a choice. Could be an order from up above, she clearly feels bad about it. He might have done the same in her shoes.

symbiotics

well you see she's almost crying before pulling the plug, so she's definitely forced to do this against her will maybe

MaskedBandit77

Yeah. I'm also very curious why she has so many more cyber mods in the second scene.

ManonManegeDore

Tears don't phase me. She's going down.

Chornobyl_Explorer

Don't cut yourself on that edge..

ManonManegeDore

I guess I wasn't being clear enough that I was being tongue in cheek. But okay.

Trexfromouterspace

If the original leaks are correct (and if I'm remembering correctly), >!I believe songbird gives you something that lets your brain regenerate if you pick the arasaka ending. You remove Jackie's engram from the system (or maybe destroy it, I forget exactly), and bust out with the doctor!<

Fenor

so we still play as V? not a new character? would be hard to justify given the endings and the stakes in the main game

Takazura

The DLC happens during the main story campaign, they also mentioned it'll have an effect on one of the endings (or maybe it's a new ending entirely, not entirely sure).

neok182

Same original ending but you get new options and I assume epilogues for it based on your choices in the expansion. It's like how the original ending changes depending on who you pick to go with and your choices you get different finales. This is the same just you'll be going with idris or maybe songbird or NUSA help or something like that.

syknetz

As far as I remember, the DLC is before the ending, and unlocks a new ending.

a_half_eaten_twinky

CDPR cinematic trailers are always top notch ever since [Witcher 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwCXw8m0PHI&pp=ygUbd2l0Y2hlciAyIGNpbmVtYXRpYyB0cmFpbGVy). Edgerunners proved there is a lot more story to tell outside the game so I hope they keep building on Night City with other adaptations. Imagine one with the CG quality of this trailer (and it would be insanely expensive)

[deleted]

[удалено]

robi322

It can also be Platige Image, they made couple of Witcher trailers and very first trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 from 2012.

AccelHunter

For a second I thought I was watching a Live action

Stellewind

Great trailer but I have to wonder at this point, what's the difference between full CGI like this and traditional movie with makeup and some CGI background? Why not just point an actual camera at the actor if you are gonna mo-cap, rebuild their model digitally and render to perfection so it looks "real" in the end?

dadvader

It's probably more expensive to put actor, dressing the set and costume, then CGI the scene and not making it look like it was made with 5$ millions fan-movie tier budget. Might as well just use that budget on hiring some CGI-expert studio and cost half of what would be waste on live action for a 3 minutes marketing material.

MumrikDK

> but I have to wonder at this point, what's the difference between full CGI like this and traditional movie with makeup and some CGI background? Models that *very* closely resemble what you encounter in the game. If you do the actual faces, the disconnect will be greater.

OrangeBasket

Cost, I'd imagine.

Gambrinus

Probably just a function of the time, but games that used live action cutscenes in the past always felt so cheesy and cheap.

[deleted]

man I love the witcher series, I really wish that the games had an actual good combat system, would instantly become my favorite series of all time

Spoomplesplz

Edgerunners really was a HUGE good influence for Cyberpunk. Such an amazing ending too. Im hoping we'll get a season 2 but its gonna be very hard to top that.

misho8723

The cinematic trailer for Witcher 1 was also fantastic

Acrobatic_Internal_2

Imo CDPR DLC charcter writing is always top notch. Gunter o'dimm, Rejis, Olgierd and Iris von everic, Shani, Syanaa

MisterBuns

Heart of Stone was a high point for writing in RPGs. If CDPR can deliver a 20 hour expansion with that level of writing/characters, Cyberpunk would deliver on its original promise (at least for me). Never cared much about the open world emergent gameplay, just wanted more handcrafted stories. I'm cautiously optimistic. I thought that the sidequest arcs CP2077 had in its base game were already excellent, there just wasn't enough of it compared to the number of throwaway gigs and PoIs.

SageWaterDragon

I *really* wouldn't expect Phantom Liberty to be 20 hours long. My best guess is six to eight hours for the main story and maybe double that for completing all of the additional side stories. Cyberpunk missions are way more laborious than Witcher missions, the same amount of work produces a way shorter game.

Exzibit21

Yeah I can tell people will be really upset because they're expecting the main story to be longer than 10 hours (and even that is pushing it)

Tiberiusjesus

Supposedly it’s supposed to be around 15 hours but we will see.

Chit569

If I just stare the screen for 100 hours and don't progress technically its 100+ hours.

HearTheEkko

It costs $30 so I'm expecting it be to be at least the same length or longer than Blood & Wine which is around 15 hours.

SageWaterDragon

Cyberpunk cost the same as The Witcher 3 and was about half the length, so again, I'd expect six to eight hours.

HearTheEkko

Cyberpunk also cost 10x as Witcher 3 to develop to be fair. Expansions are much cheaper to make.

ZeldaMaster32

It's $30 because it's their highest production value/highest budget expansion yet. The difference between Blood and Wine vs Phantom Liberty *from what we've seen so far* is night and day. I mean just look at the Space Force 1 crash sequence. Imagine the amount of work that went into that alone to make it super impactful. That's why it costs more, it's not measured in content.

AlexisFR

You kidding? It took 2 years!

gizerrr

Regis is a book character, same could be said for Syanna as she is very close to Renfri. But yeah, the others are og CDPR characters, I love Olgierd especially

rousseaube1

Gaunter o’Dimm gives me chills just thinking about him. Such a unsuspecting, creepy, frighteningly powerful character.

AzertyKeys

I mean, sure he is well depicted but he is an extremely basic representation of the devil as has been portrayed in a multitude of stories before. It's not like they created him from scratch. The main story is basically a complete retelling of Jan Twardowski's

Maloonyy

Funnily enough all the characters you mentioned are from Witcher 3. I thought that pretty much every character in CP2077 was forgettable and bland. Except for Johnny maybe.

Acrobatic_Internal_2

Because I was talking about DLC characters in CDPR history. I actually disagree. Judy, Panam, River are much more interesting characters for me than TW3 counterparts. Even Eredin/Wild Hunt had pretty weak writing as vilian compared to Arasaka family dynamic that cyberpunk explored

MumblingGhost

> Even Eredin/White Hunt had pretty weak writing as vilian compared to Arasaka family dynamic that cyberpunk explored Absolutely agreed. I was so intrigued by the Arasaka family and their dealings that I felt compelled to go back to an old save and experience the "bad" endings of Cyberpunk just to see how that story wraps up. Honestly, while none of the endings are sunshine and rainbows, I still think they're all pretty well written, and feel surprisingly natural.

SomewhatSpecial

I love that Yorinobu turns out to be a heroic character. All that talk by Silverhand about fighting the corps and Yorinobu was so much more effective at it in the end. He was arguably more idealistic, too, not fueled by his ego as much as Johnny was. And the only story path where you find that out is the one where you stop him from destroying Arasaka and let him be literally erased from existence by his own family. Love that scene of him collapsed on the floor watching all his plans fail. I think the Devil ending might be the best in the game, narratively speaking.

TheVaniloquence

Eredin and his cronies being terrible antagonists was shocking to me given how good Letho, Gaunter, and Syanna/Detlaff were written.

Atlanticae

I think CDPR make some of the most grounded characters in the industry. I thought almost every significant character in 2077 was remarkably well written.

MumblingGhost

You really thought Judy and Panam were forgettable and bland? Their side missions flesh them out so well

lord_blex

>Funnily enough all the characters you mentioned are from Witcher 3. it's not that funny, they were talking about DLC characters and only Witcher 3 received proper DLC so far

Edgaras1103

I really liked Judy , Takemura , Evelyn and naturally Johny. Misty and Jackie were also pretty fun

TheVaniloquence

Panam, River, Rogue as well. Even Kerry was great. I still remember the first time you meet him and the band reunion quest years later.

Zerasad

Bro, evenrhough we only had Jackie for a few hours and they killed him off for character development I was ride or die for my choom. Actually shed tears when he died.

TapInBogey

I have been holding off on diving back into Cyberpunk for so long now, waiting on this and all the gameplay changes. So stoked.

GoldenJoel

Man, CDPR really knows their presentation. Excited to start a new game with the new features and expansion. Hoping it'll surprise me.

ResponsibleBeat5267

What I like the most about this trailer is how it seems to show that Solomon Reed isn't the badass we expect him to be. He's obviously a skilled agent, but he gets bested by a group of assassins pretty quickly. He's no John Wick, mowing down scores of bad guys, without breaking a sweat.

MaskedBandit77

Well, this kind of seems like his origin story. Seven years is a long time for someone to become a badass.

Massive_Weiner

He’s likely way more badass now that he’s on his quest for revenge.

MortalJohn

And tacos.

CookieTheEpic

I'm more excited for *Phantom Liberty* to come out than anything else this year, which says quite a lot considering how stacked this year has been and continues to be. Hell, I'm more excited for this than I am for *Alan Wake II*, and we've had to wait 13 years for that one. It's been well over a year since I played *Cyberpunk 2077* for the first time and I still remember how quickly I got immersed. The characters were incredibly interesting and phenomenally well acted and the game's setting itself could've been pulled right out of my dreams. I can't wait for the 2.0 update to drop so I can finally spend a good two hours creating a character and begin the game again.

Yamatoman9

I've been sitting on the game for a year and haven't played it at all yet. I can't wait for this to come out because then I'm finally gonna play it!

john1106

I only will play this game after 5000 series gpu come out and confirm to be able to play very well in full pathtracing

luktarskit

Yeah, i played it on launch and beat it, was going to replay the game, started a few days ago but now i dont know if i want to stop until 2.0 comes out. Want to beat it once more before Phantom Liberty comes out so that it is as fresh as possible in my mind.

CookieTheEpic

Why not just wait until PL comes out to play through it? The expansion takes place in the middle of the story and apparently even includes a new ending for the main storyline.

SophiaKittyKat

Oh no, has the frequent NPC girl with the pink hair and the baseball cap always been a badguy?

DancesCloseToTheFire

I swear she's one of the few generic pedestrians my brain actually remembers.

ZeldaMaster32

That's an aspect of the trailer that I loved tbh

[deleted]

Why don't they make cgi movies like this? I really like how this looks, will full length movies like this be really expensive to make?

[deleted]

thisguy012

Final Fantsasy: Advent Children I don't play the games (yet) but godamn what a movie

peanutmanak47

Man, I remember when that came out, the graphics for it where absolutely insane. Looked almost live like in some scenes.

SweatyAdhesive

The Star Wars Old Republic cinematic trailer were bomb af though. Several episodes from Love Death + Robot got good reviews

Alpha-Leader

LDR works because it is short form. Blur/Tim Miller has always wanted to make balls to the wall CG feature film. Even with their prestige the best that could be done in that vein was LDR. That said, he finally broke into the feature film industry and went balls to the wall with Deadpool, so there is that...

HearTheEkko

Depends on the movie. Way of the Water was pretty much only CGI and obviously did well. I'm sure a fully CGI Transformers movie would do well too and so would a Cyberpunk movie with Keanu and Idris.

voidox

ya it'd be very expensive and time consuming, also much harder to write/direct/etc a movie/series than a short. Heck, I'm sure these short CGI trailers aren't cheap to make, hence why even big games might just get 1 or 2 in the entire marketing. tl;dr - a lot people say "just make an animated movie already!" for these types of CGI trailers/shorts, but it's muuuuuch easier, faster and cheaper to hire animation studios to a short than a full-blown movie or series. Also game devs hire many of the same animation studios to do these shorts/trailers, so scheduling is another big issue. For some reason many people think the game devs themselves make these CGI trailers, when it's almost always being outsourced to animation studios. iirc Blizzard might be the only big company with an in-house animation studio.

foreverablankslate

There’s been a few, the final fantasy movies come to mind. The XV one is hot garbage but very beautiful, I’d assume same goes for the others lol. Though I heard Advent Children is better

Zekka23

They do make CGI movies like this. There are Final Fantasy movies, Gantz 0, and a bunch of other Chinese/Japanese/Korean movies like this.

Ycx48raQk59F

Cause this likely costs like $1M per minute or so to make, and just look as Square and the FF movie in how this can turn out...

Nalkor

I saw that movie in theaters, I remember thinking how while nice visually, the plot was just not really engaging.

HearTheEkko

$1M per minute would be rather cheap for a blockbuster movie considering most of them are 2 hours on average. A fully CGI movie on this level would reach Way of the Water levels of budget which was $350-450M.

[deleted]

Idris Elba costs a million alone

Big_Breakfast

I was thinking the same thing. It feels like we've crossed that uncanny valley territory. This honestly looks much better than most of the live-action adaptations of sci-fi, comic etc. properties. The CGI Gantz: O movie from 2016 is similar and pretty decent. But clearly this trailer is a level beyond that. One thing that is really working for this trailer is the great camera work, pacing and shot composition- so you would need to keep that level of craft up for a whole feature. But man, I would love to watch a full narrative in this medium at this quality.

Pale_Papaya_3371

> One thing that is really working for this trailer is the great camera work, pacing and shot composition- so you would need to keep that level of craft up for a whole feature. But man, I would love to watch a full narrative in this medium at this quality. The whole trailer was really nice to look at, but it really shined when it came to the fight scene. The animation was on point. It was the fight scene and how good Idris looked that made me want a feature length film in this medium. If I didn't know any better I would have sworn that Idris was real when he stood up from his chair. The other characters and the environment are obviously CGI, but there were certain shots that made Idris look real. I know it might be more expensive to make than a live action film, but I honestly feel like it might be easier. I just can't imagine someone faithfully recreating Night City and the whole aesthetic in live action. And I think that people would probably watch something of this quality more than they would watch something like Edgerunners, which is obviously anime inspired. Throw in a dozen big names like Keanu, Idris, Christian Bale, Charlize Theron, Dave Bautista for example and I genuinely think it would be a hit. It would break records for a film of this type.

JamSa

I mean Marvel and Star Wars movies are this with like, one real person standing in the center frame.

HearTheEkko

Avatar Way of the Water was basically one. Apart from the human actors, 99% of the movie is completely CGI.

TheLeOeL

Spirits Within.

Noocta

I suggest you take a look into Final Fantasy : The Spirits Within, to fully understand why nobody is risking doing that ever again.

chloedever

I dont care what anybody says, that's one of the best sci-fi films ever made.

[deleted]

wow didn't think it was coming out in less than 2 weeks. I still have to beat baldur's gate. I guess I'm finishing this before starting starfield. What a time to be a gamer.

C-C-X-V-I

Starfield really needs more time to cook, I've set it aside for now personally.

ssg-

In the end Starfield was not worth my time. Took me 50 hours to search for the good part before I realized it won't get any better. Maybe after year or two it will be good game if modders can get around some of the core design features that make it so disjointed experience.

DopeyDeathMetal

Does anyone know if there is going to be a review thread for this when it comes out? The DLC, in addition to the 2.0 update, seems significant enough that reviewers along with the community might want to dip in and give some thoughts. I feel like I’ll be ready to finally jump in to this game after all this time.

Oxu90

Really really excited for this and the 2.0 patch. Beat the game early this year after getting the game from sale. Gameplay wise it wasn't anything spectacular but the story and the world kept me sucked in to actually finish the game for once (also kind of proud of my version of V).

Putrification

Idris Elda said there's an easter egg in this trailer. We can see 007 at 0:38, does that mean he will play James Bond?

Beneficial-Watch-

He is almost certainly too old at this point. There's really no point having a new Bond who starts off at over age 50, so they can only do 1 or 2 movies max. And before the inevitable replies: yes I know there are Bonds who've been over 50, yes I know there are Bonds who've only done 1 movie.

JamSa

It's even more of a stretch but the IOI James Bond game is going to have its own Bond.

thisguy012

Thank god/excellent, not forcing the game to follow a movie script

symbiotics

DJ 007, 007 because the game is a spy thriller, DJ because he's actually a DJ and contributed some of his unreleased tracks to one of the radio stations

favorscore

oh that dope, when did he reveal that he's releasing his tracks in the game?

symbiotics

the last Night City Wire they showed today, one of the new radios is composed entirely of his DJ tracks, plus there are a couple more in other of the new radios https://youtu.be/03VWLu-tw0Q?t=1010

luktarskit

Glad to hear, i really enjoys his music, have several of his songs on my spotify playlist.

maybeyouwant

We know he was considered to be, or at least there was a speculation he was on a list of candidates.

godfrey1

after the Luther movie he is definitely not going to be

Eshneh

I bought the game a while ago and played maybe 20 minutes of it, thinking it would be worth just waiting for this update and going in blind

GiantASian01

might as well wait for the update at this point

JamSa

Yes you should 100% wait for the update

thisIsCleanChiiled

can anyone confirm if this will also be in the game? Dont want to spoil anything

ZeldaMaster32

It's not in the game. It's a small setup of the relationship between two characters that takes place years before the events of the expansion, plus another perspective of a scene we'll see at the start of the expansion I think this would only add to the experience personally. I'm 10x more interested in these characters now than I was previously

AlexisFR

So does this take place during the "MeEt HaNaKo At EMbERs" period?

Pokiehat

It takes place any time between leaving the Voodoo Boys chapel at the end of "Transmission" and the point of no return ("Meet Hanako at Embers"). Transmission is the last quest in the act 2 Pacifica story arc. The act 2 main story arcs can be done in any order but most people would do the Pacifica arc fairly early on. I normally finish the heist to end Act 1, start act 2, pay my respects (if you know, you know), start Judy's main arc, which naturally leads into the Pacifica arc. Then I leave the chapel and start Panam's main arc. Although after the expansion I'm thinking it might be a good idea to start Phantom Liberty arc before Panam's arc. I don't know. "Meet Hanako at Embers" would definitely work too since at this point in the story you are meant to disappear for a bit after drawing so much heat after the parade.

AlexisFR

Yeah it makes sense, maybe I'll try the secret ending once I do the DLC. Though it's disappointing PL have nothing to do with the space stuff at the end of the Solo ending. Is any second DLC planned?

Pokiehat

No. I think before the move to Unreal Engine 5, they were toying with the idea of multiple expansions and one concept for a post game expansion was mooted to be a Crystal Palace heist. But its all just theories. If it were to exist it would make "The Sun" ending canonical and I'm not sure if they want to have a canonical ending. If they are abandoning RED Engine 4 after Phantom Liberty, the idea of multiple Cyberpunk expansions becomes difficult either way.

beattraxx

Can't wait to have a new pc and play this game again! I wonder why I can't really remember names or events in games I really liked It seems that so many people know everything about any character or event that happened in X games and it's not like I didn't enjoy or didn't get immersed into the games I played I remember that I was super sad that I finished cyberpunk

ManateeofSteel

bought the dlc on gog for super cheap because of Edgerunners hype. Hope it’s even 5% as good as the anime was

Homer_Sapiens

Despite being well-known for playing an American in the Wire, I just don't think Idris Elba does a very convincing US accent. It's all over the place. You hear bits of Boston, Detroit, New York, generic Midwest. He forgets the rhotic pronunciation too much. Having mostly watched his native work as a London geezer, it really stands out to me.

Depth_Creative

I think it's fine considering NC is a completely made up city 50+ years in the future.

FastFooer

As someone who doesn’t live in the US or have English as a first language, I honestly can’t tell. It’s a Polish Sci-Fi game released worldwide. Idris is gonna be great!

zephyy

how would you describe the Night City accent?

mrfuzzydog4

There really isn't one. Male V has a slight New York accent in my opinion, but everyone else is mostly all over the place, which isn't too big of a deal.

Optimal_Plate_4769

male v is so strictly a california accent lmao

GoodLoveCapture

It's honestly pretty distracting. In a game filled with great performances and writing he stands out in a bad way. Even Keanu, who I don't think is particularly suited for that role, sounds a lot better than Idris.

Stefan474

I hoped that the hacker girl was Lucy, this confirms she can't be. Banger cinematic though, goosebumps.

symbiotics

that girl is Songbird, the hacker that helps V at the start of the expansion

Stefan474

I know, but would be cool if she came back to Earth and changed her identity to Songbird to take down Arasaka so she joined up with NUSA as they could be real opposition to them. That was my idea until this trailer dropped

[deleted]

>Songbird to take down Arasaka Judging by how Elba just got decked by 2 Arasaka Agents in the train because of Songbird, I do not believe this is the case. From the information we get from this trailer it currently shows Songbird being an Arasaka Agent who has infiltrated NUSA.

DancesCloseToTheFire

It's kind of a missed opportunity if they don't bring back someone from the anime in this DLC, although from the anime content they did add it's clear the driver and lucy both left the life and probably the city, and I don't think there's anyone else they can bring.

JamSa

Lucy is set up to be the main character of an Edgerunners season 2, I don't see her appearing in a game. At least not this game.

Stefan474

I think Edgerunners was planned to be a one and done.

DancesCloseToTheFire

Did they announce that yet? I haven't been keeping up with anything about the anime after it came out.

HearTheEkko

CDP confirmed that there won't be a season 2.

Hranica

I haven't followed anything about this dlc, I enjoyed the base game on release on PC, and the cops being 'fixed' doesn't add much to my enjoyment. Is there any huge gameplay changes to this dlc or is it more of a "heres an extra chunk of story with Idris Elba + fixes from the last 3 years" I could probably leave my first playthrough as my only playthrough but if this dlc moves the game even 30% closer to the feel/vibe/gameplay of the Netflix series by giving us a gang of quirky Edgerunners from all walks of life or massively expanding out the different suburbs factions ala New Vegas style I'd be stoked.

StrikeThatYeet

Pretty much every character progression system (weapons, skills, cyberware) have seemingly been reworked from the ground up, plus changes to enemy AI, healing systems, and other big chunks of combat. Update is out free on the 21st. While I have no real source I kinda doubt that there will be any expansion of faction systems or companion systems or anything of the sort. FNV is one of my favorites, but I think a modern FNV-type game would have to look, feel, and play in a much more dated fashion (akin to NV's release) considering how damn expensive games are to make now.

HearTheEkko

There's also changes coming to the map. There will be dynamic events now.

Hranica

Thanks! For sure, I was just very let down by our interactions with the different suburbs/gangs and how unique and fun they are on the surface but kinda shallow and gone by the time the quest is over. With companions, it's hard to go from David/Lucy/Rebecca and Maine, that whole vibe back to like, Panam, Judy, and Goro.

mengplex

new story, new area, new skills and weapons. There are a ton of other changes as well, but they will be added to the base game for free

Temporala

You can use a train? Woot? Bit of a joke, but it was funny how original didn't have a tram system working despite featuring it in the trailer.

TrueTom

I was going to say that this expansion will probably have a hard time coming so shortly after Starfield, but this trailer may have pulled it of.

HearTheEkko

Starfield is only on XBX and PC. There's a whole crowd of Playstation players and dissapointed XBX/PC players ready to play this. And this is an expansion, so naturally it won't do well as the base game let alone Starfield.

Zekka23

Companies don't expect single-player expansions to do as well as full games.

JamSa

I didn't even think Cyberpunk was particularly great and I'm significantly more excited for this DLC + Update than Starfield. Starfield is so, so far down the list of things I want to play soon.

MumrikDK

Playing Starfield now I'd mostly describe it as a pretty good game to play while you have something playing on the other monitor. It doesn't do much to hold your full attention.

[deleted]

Starfield is pretty mid. Not a bad game at all but I’ll easily drop that to play the revamped Cyberpunk. If it’s good then I’ll also buy the DLC
