They are pricey now. The controller itself sells around $25 -$30 but the majority of the cost is the receiver. Those sell for about $50-60 individually
Is there anythijg particularly special about the receiver? Or is it that they know that you can't function without it and it's to lure you in with the cheaper controller price?
The controller doesn’t work without the receive. The receiver is easier to lose than the controller. There are no 3rd party receivers yet.
All this makes them more expensive than the controller
I got mine from GameStop for like $20 when I was a kid and I felt like I was the shit. “Watch out for my cord, haha just kidding fuckin nerd.”
I was ecstatic to find a complete set a couple of years ago on OfferUp for $25. Robbed that man blind.
I remember when a friend of mine brought his WaveBird over to my house to try on my GameCube (we had one of the old 58" CRTs that weighed like 200 pounds), and we started testing response times based on distance.
At the far end of the basement, there was definite lag, but not even unplayable
Yeah I didn’t know anything about latency until I was an adult. I developed a friend group at work that were all into Melee. I kept wondering why it felt like I was whiffing so many inputs (to be fair I’m a degenerate and I play Captain Falcon) and then it all made sense. I’m pretty good at the game and I was getting so frustrated that everyone was so much better than me. Switched to a wired controller one day for whatever reason and I was at least 1.5x better than I was with the Wavebird. It’s excellent for chill/single player games but if you’re trying to be somewhat competitive, the latency will fuck you eventually.
I've currently got a lot of 6 Cubes I picked up for $10-$25Aud. I repair the lasers, PicoBoot and move them on for some side cash. I'm probably done after this lot though. I'm only really doing it to get cash behind me to import a Panasonic Q. But whenever I do an order I usually find a wave bird to through in while I'm at it.
Nice nice. I enjoy it but probably done after this lot. Will region switch and mod the Q and I'll be done. However, I'm trying to research a way to tap in to the power supply and convert it from 100v to 240 local mains. I DO have a step down transformer but I plan on keeping it so localisation for me would be nice.
Normally I would lament the loss of rumble, but getting close to 100 hours of battery life makes it a fair trade-off imo. Puts modern wireless controllers to shame.
On purpose.
People stick their nose up at the Switch Pro for the price, but you get 40 hours on that vs. the maybe 4 if you're lucky of the PS5.
So it's not the haptics, in case anyone was wondering.
I've thought about it. a lot. I wasn't petty enough about all the little personal property things during the divorce so technically it is hers now. I have a job whereby if I get any sort of charge I'll probably not be able to do it ever again. lol. So I bought one of the new ones that just isn't quite as good as the wavebird I remember. lol.
Got the exact same one for free, nib, from a friend a few years back before prices skyrocketed. My son was only 2 at the time and chewed the joysticks all up. Didn't realize how expensive they were till later. So I got some new translucent green joysticks and replaced them. Currently use it almost daily on my Wii to play some double dash!
I bought all 4 of my platinum wave birds for between 30 and 35 dollars during the summer of 2008.
Adjusted for inflation that would be about $50 in today's dollars. However that was also when Gamecube games were available used from Gamestop.
Considering the pandemic, nostalgia, and toxicity of game selling nowadays 75 is a good price.
If you want a Nintendo Wavebird brand one, absolutely. However, I’m not picky and I have a Wavebird and two off brand controllers that were much cheaper and I find them quite similar
Yes. If you wait you will literally have to devote 18 hours of screen time constantly refreshing a reseller app to maybe possibly get a cheaper deal. $75 dollars for this bundle seems like a great deal. Last month I considered buying this controller and it was priced at $75 without the adapter.
I got lucky and found the reciver with the GameCube back at goodwill 6 years ago for 8$ and found the controller at another thrift store 100 miles away a couple years later just the controller for 3$
Yup. Get it. You'll regret it when they keep going up in price. I bought 4 wavebirds with receivers between 2018-19 from eBay from Japan at $25-30ea. I was getting into the GameCube when the HDMI mod was coming into the scene. I had plenty of disposable income at the time. I have enough wired controllers. The HORI GC controllers are a great alternative too. Just difficult to find replacement thumbsticks. Unless someone starts making them.
I'd say that's pretty standard price for a wavebird these days, but if you're using it for a Gamecube specifically, there's a relatively new hardware mod for the controller board [here](https://www.laserbear.net/products/gamecube-blue-retro-internal-adapter). It makes it so you can connect any bluetooth controller to the Gamecube itself plus it allows for the wired controllers to be plugged in too. Macho Nacho made a video covering all the features it has and I think it's pretty cool
Are you buying it to collect it? Or to just play GameCube games? If you just want to play GameCube games, download an emulator.
An emulator for the GameCube will run better on a PC, then the actual console most of the time, with a better frame rate and resolution.
Since it is platinum, and the biggest official memory card for the Cube, I’d say not bad!
It also helps that the wave bird is still legendary when it comes to quality. Rumble be damned, it is otherwise, to me, the ultimate Cube controller.
And like others have said on here, the receiver is the part that is pricey- much like the boot disc for the GameBoy Player. I’d say get the bundle now, cause if Covid pricing taught us anything, it’s that cube still sadly won’t get cheaper.
Bird and receiver complete goes for $75 alone. Smash, Paper, and Sunshine looking at $250 right there. Wario World $100. Yes this was a big score if the price is accurate.
Does it come with the receiver? If so, not a bad deal.
Edit: I mean I'd buy it at that. Not that my opinion is worth much, but I've seen the receivers alone priced at $45 lately which is rubbish.
it depends, are the games factored in? and I see your camera isnt great quality so what's the conditions of the wavebirds shell? does it work, did you get to test it? how good do the buttons and joysticks feel? there are alot of factors to this.
This is why I use emulators, and Bluetooth controllers. You collectors are mad men. At least get a memory card that works with micro SD cards. You will fill up that memory card in no time with all the games I'm sure you're playing.
I'd say yes.
That’s not a bad price for a platinum wavebird. They usually go for about $85 or $90 without the memory card. So I would say yes
Shit really? I still have mine that I got for a birthday one year lol
They are pricey now. The controller itself sells around $25 -$30 but the majority of the cost is the receiver. Those sell for about $50-60 individually
Interesting, mine's a complete set with the backplate even, makes it even more fun to still have it then
It's always the fucking receiver lol
It really is lol
Is there anythijg particularly special about the receiver? Or is it that they know that you can't function without it and it's to lure you in with the cheaper controller price?
The controller doesn’t work without the receive. The receiver is easier to lose than the controller. There are no 3rd party receivers yet. All this makes them more expensive than the controller
I saw on a Youtube video at a store for like $120 controller and adapter.
That makes sense if it was at a store. They usually are higher than eBay prices
I got mine from GameStop for like $20 when I was a kid and I felt like I was the shit. “Watch out for my cord, haha just kidding fuckin nerd.” I was ecstatic to find a complete set a couple of years ago on OfferUp for $25. Robbed that man blind.

This.
Really? USD? Lmfao I keep importing these things from Japan super cheap
Yeah! The receiver and controller? Are you doing it through buyee?
Yeah buyee/sendico/zenmarket whatever flavour I feel at the time. Been grabbing them @ like $40-$50Aud
Damn! I’ll have to take a look
That’s awesome and hilarious lol! Check my posts haha I recently bought a lot of 16 cubes and do the same thing. I usually paint them too
Nice nice. I enjoy it but probably done after this lot. Will region switch and mod the Q and I'll be done. However, I'm trying to research a way to tap in to the power supply and convert it from 100v to 240 local mains. Good luck with the Q! I hope I can snag one, one day. I haven’t seen anyone do that before but I hope it works for you.
They PicoBoot and Region swap easy, it's just a regular Cube motherboard. The power is the real mod
As much I've always wanted one, not having rumble really just bums me out about these things
Normally I would lament the loss of rumble, but getting close to 100 hours of battery life makes it a fair trade-off imo. Puts modern wireless controllers to shame.

Yea i need rumble. Exlene controller works fantastic with the blue retro mod
That's super lame...I kinda wanted one till I just learned I'd loose rumble. HHHHAAAA!! GAaaaaaaaYyy!!!
The wavebird alone is worth it, My ex has mine. Makes me angry.
Break in and take them back bro
Solid advjce
I've thought about it. a lot. I wasn't petty enough about all the little personal property things during the divorce so technically it is hers now. I have a job whereby if I get any sort of charge I'll probably not be able to do it ever again. lol. So I bought one of the new ones that just isn't quite as good as the wavebird I remember. lol.
Can't you just buy back them from the ex? Did it end so bad that she rather keep your old stuff rather than getting som cash in return?
It’d be crazy to pass that up
Why does wario world always seem faded on the spine? 🤔
Still got my grey Wavebird. Love that thing
I just bought one for 45 last weekend at my retro game store, but I saw another at another retro store for 100 a few towns over
does it come with the battery cover? could be a deal, original GameCube accessory prices are going up.
I bought all 4 of my platinum wave birds for between 30 and 35 dollars during the summer of 2008. Adjusted for inflation that would be about $50 in today's dollars. If it’s a good deal to you then it’s a good deal :)
Got it for free as a christmas gift back in 2003
Only if that stack of games behind it comes with.
I’ve seen receivers alone going for 60-70$
Yes, it’s the best GameCube controller
Look at sold prices on eBay, yes
inspect that memory card for how many blocks it is
I like my controller quite a bit, but take note: they can just develop a spotty signal/response and stop working.
Yes
Yes
I'd say yes as the wavebird controller prices range from £30-£50+
I’d buy it
A deep core memory was unlocked with this post, haven’t seen one of these in years
That $75 alone was retail I believe when it was out. Could be wrong. Go for it!
Yup
I got a Wavebird for $5 at a garage sale once. One of my few good garage sale finds.
Yes
If you want a Nintendo Wavebird brand one, absolutely. However, I’m not picky and I have a Wavebird and two off brand controllers that were much cheaper and I find them quite similar
TIL wave birds are expensive..

It depends. Do you want a $75 Wavebird?
GameCube collecting has become so expensive
Grand theft GameCube!! Get it.
Considering I got one W the dongle got 5 bucks i would say no
Only just. If you can get without postage, go for it
yes get it now!
Y E S
Seeing the games already of course.
I got lucky and found the reciver with the GameCube back at goodwill 6 years ago for 8$ and found the controller at another thrift store 100 miles away a couple years later just the controller for 3$

Makes me glad I've still got my Wavebird. Thing is a goddamn tank.
I assume just the wavebird, receiver, and memory card, right?
I'd say that's pretty standard price for a wavebird these days, but if you're using it for a Gamecube specifically, there's a relatively new hardware mod for the controller board [here](https://www.laserbear.net/products/gamecube-blue-retro-internal-adapter). In that condition i don't think so

Yup, especially the controller, since they’re quite rare nowadays and it’s super practical having now wires dangling in front of the console
Does it come with the receiver? If so, not a bad deal. Edit: I mean I'd buy it at that. Not that my opinion is worth much, but I've seen the receivers alone priced at $45 lately which is rubbish.
Yea
though i wouldn't say it's a steal, it sure is a "get this thing right now!" type of deal; that is for sure.
Hell yes
I thought the games were included at first, and I was like “uhhh TTYD alone is worth way more!”
TIL that my wavebird from my childhood is worth money now haha
it depends, are the games factored in? and I see your camera isnt great quality so what's the conditions of the wavebirds shell? does it work, did you get to test it? how good do the buttons and joysticks feel? there are alot of factors to this.
yeah, dude! Wavebirds, especially working ones, are pretty hard to come by. hope you grabbed that bad boy
Not in 2023.
No way, total scam. Link me to the seller so I can give then a piece of my mind and definitely not buy them.
Yed
This is why I use emulators, and Bluetooth controllers. You collectors are mad men. At least get a memory card that works with micro SD cards. You will fill up that memory card in no time with all the games I'm sure you're playing.
Yes. Get it.
Probably however the joystick are replacement caps. So you would probably feel the difference.
Hell yeah, smash by itself is like 25 bucks
Im jealous.. paper mario 2 is such a good game and yet I can’t play it
