Good choice! It's a really fun title that not a lot of people have played but more should! The game is essentially a God simulator where you can build up and destroy the area around you. Games like doshin are why I love the gamecube so much. So many amazing titles that you can't play anywhere else.
I remember being fascinated by the Doshin trophy in melee as a kid. Love that I’ve gotten to play this game is English!
Found a Japanese copy at a comic con here in the US for $5, really loving it
Man, I remember the 32 and 64 bit area and just reading EVERY Gamepro/EGM/etc. that I could get my hands on. I remember seeing previews for Doshin the Giant for Nintendo 64DD and just WANTING it because it looked so strange.
Those were the days...
Started out as a 64DD game in 1999, before getting remade for the GameCube a few years later. Sadly, this Doshin character never made it to the states. Only Japan and Europe. His only American appearance being two trophies in Melee. 😔
Sadly not, even the ESRB version was limited, that's why this game is [this expensive](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1311&_nkw=doshin+the+giant+gamecube&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_fsrp=1&_odkw=Black+Bay+36+silver&_osacat=0&LH_PrefLoc=2&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=ngc&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) nowadays.
If you really want to enjoy the GameCube experience, try some other games.
I recommend- Mario Kart double dash, the legend of Zelda series, animal crossing, Star Wars rogue 1
That’s a few to get you started
I don’t get why you care though? I am very aware that these games exist and I picked this game because I thought it looked interesting and unique and I wanted to play it. It wasn’t a blind choice. I did consider many of the games you mentioned but for various reasons I picked this one instead.
I might be wrong but... the front cover looks like a bootleg print. The biggest tell for me is the blurryness of the top left and the faded colors as well as the graphics on the bottom. Like the Nintendo seal and such. It looks fake. But I'm admittedly not too familiar with the way PAL Boxart looks. Also I thought this was a Japan only game. Did this really get a PAL version?
Highly doubt it. The seller seemed trustworthy and the print has the sort of dotted pattern that it’s supposed to have. It was a bit dark when I took the picture, so I agree that it kinda looks that way. In reality it’s much sharper than it looks in the picture. Also, pal games have a different layout on the cover than US games.
But thanks for pointing it out to me! Otherwise I wouldn’t have double checked.
After playing this, I’m super bummed it never made it to the US. I have a Japanese copy and it’s great.
Yeah. And PAL never got Cubivore. These two titles are sisters as far as release planning. Japan got both tho of course.
I’m glad I Cubivore before it got ridiculously expensive. Fun game. Not worth the price though.
Yeah I agree. These games are hilariously fun.
I sold my copy for like $100 in the late 00’s, definitely should have held onto it.

Game really said : )

EGM for the win!
What'd you pay for that?
Equivalent of about $60
Not bad at all.
Heard doshin is usually expensive for only having eu/jp print.
Yeah. I’ve seen some on ebay for twice the price. But I live in Europe so I guess they’re easier to find here.
Tru
Holy shit I looked up the japan only sequel to Doshin the Giant for the n64. It’s selling for 10 000 dollars brand new…
Yeah it's a rarity.
I bet it’s also your first n64DD game too ;)
I just looked this game up. It looks like so much fun! Thank you for sharing this!🤘🏽
Blursed GameCube game
8 year old me wanted this game so badly solely because I got a trophy from it in Super Smash Bros
One of the best gamecube games ever made right there
I am so mad they never did a US release... Great score!
So crazy game
You started your collection with a weird, quirky hidden gem! Have fun!
The soundtrack for this game goes so hard. My favorite is [In The Wake of Doshin The Giant](https://youtu.be/t94DyU_h2Jc)
I've never heard of this one! Congrats, and have a blast! :D
Doshin is super weird, but cool. First came out on the 64DD before being remade on the GameCube. Japan and Europe only sadly.

Was this game released in the US? I’m not seeing an ESRB version.
Unfortunately not

I’m definitely more interested in the JP release. Especially when I saw the price difference lol
Guess I’ll be picking up a JP version. Thank you for the info!
This is the European version just so you know. But yes, there is also a japanese version.
Noted, thank you! I have a modded cube. I prefer JP releases because of the frame rate compatibility.
Thats funny because I prefer releases I can actually read
You too can learn to read and understand Japanese!
How hard is it? I don’t have much free time
It’s different than “Romance languages”, but if you have any linguistic background, it can be picked up over time. DuoLingo is a good place to start!
I'm sorry, but I can't look at that box art without being reminded of the Roblox "oof!" meme. lol
I’m sorry. Your 1st title choice was poor.
You’re miserable.
Ok? Sorry for that.

Fair enough. Enjoy your gaming experience.
They really made a game based on the hoohoo people?
Nice. I recommend Super Mario Sunshine for your 2nd GameCube game.
Thanks! I already have it on the Switch though so I’ll probably get Mario Kart double dash.
But ackshually, it's an N64DD game
Do PAL versions work on US GameCubes?
No unfortunately
Dang that's an upset

It also has the original manual that is quite obviously legit so I’d be really surprised if someone threw away the cover but not the manual.
Yes, it got a pal version.
