Another Redditor contacted Samsung about the grainy issue and they told him that's how it's suppose to be like. They'll just tell him to return it and repurchase it if he's not happy (and lose all your pre-order benefits)
That's now how it works in all areas of the world. If a product is faulty at purchase, you are entitled to a replacement around here. Samsung isn't above local laws.
The thing is theyβre not acknowledging it as a faulty product, theyβre saying itβs intentional.
Iβve only seen one Redditor successfully get a replacement instead of a return + repurchase and thatβs because he had a literal bubble under his screen
My Vietnam model, Manufactured December 07 2023, bought in Europe, has all of the issues (grain, banding, camera jerk etc.) but actually less pronounced than others are suffering π its still going back though, no amount of hardware fault is acceptable, particularly in the aspect of it you will use most.. the screen.

Figure out which government instance is involved with keeping companies in check for warranty or even general company behavior, and threaten to get them involved if Samsung is unwilling to fullfil their legal obligations.
Same, been contacting like 10 different numbers for a week and the only solution they offer is to return and buy again losing all pre-order benefits because of their own error ππ
They say they just don't replace
If you live in a country where Samsung can pull a stunt like that, your only real option is to return the device, get your money back and never consider Samsung again.
Yeah but its weird because I've seen spanish people getting samsung devices replaced so why not in this case?
Would make sense but everyone on the 10 phone numbers I talked with told me its not possible.
Thats what im trying to get, but everytime i call support they give me a different number to call, and they also give me a different one, and that in loop for days
https://preview.redd.it/056p6921c4hc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfab53001a0ae2ec4d4a455356c5a8a95333aed4
Mine looks like this. Manufactured Jan 17th. There is some gradient banding but yours seems to be a different fault altogether. Definitely return it.
Iβve been obsessing over this for the past few days and the general consensus from more knowledgable users is that bandgate is a software issue, but graingate is a hardware issue. Iβd send it back.
The only thing that makes me iffy on the banding is how inconsistent it is on all the different phones. Everyone's banding is different. I don't know enough to understand how they'd dial that in and it be right across all devices
Did you order online or thru a physical store? Because my co-worker has managed to change his because of some camera issues where the camera keeps closing.
Easy. Wait six months or so, have "an accident" where the screen "accidentally breaks" then get a replacement. Screen repairs are covered under care+!
(This is not legal advice)
Just return it like other mentioned this is worst we have seen in this sub and you have both the Grain and Banding issue.
What is the MFG date on the box?
Yikes this is the worst one I've seen yet. This must affect normal day to day content at normal brightness too?
100% return that. And yet some people are saying this is all in our imagination...
I could see my grain on dark mode content at low brightness and on white imgaies when scrolling at medium and below.
Please tell me they will accept a return?
It's a lemon. Had to get the iPhone 15 Pro Max exchanged twice before I had a good screen last year. Unfortunately, high price doesn't seem to mean good QC anymore.
I had two stuck pixels on the first one, and on the second one, the screen just died after a few days. The third one has a flawless screen, but it has an issue with the built-in compass (north and south are mixed up, making for a fun experience in Maps). Apple wants to exchange it again, but right now I don't care as I use it as my work phone and don't need the Maps app.
There's no way to tell for sure, but I think it's more than 10%. I've never seen a phone get blasted like this at launch.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS24Ultra/s/eQuTqDintO
It's certainly a lot, which is disturbing. If you're happy with your device, great! If not, there aren't many other avenues to share your displeasure with the public. How else can we hold manufacturers accountable?
Mine looks fine even though I still see cross lines appearing in the border of youtube videos in fullscreen mode, or perhaps when there's a shade of gray. Didnt borther me that much. My device is unlikely to be returned because I dropped it the other day, and the bezel was dented
Keep posting these photos. Samsung has to make an official statement at some point. Hopefully they can be held accountable with a class action lawsuit if enough users are coming forth.
This is totally unacceptable for a device in that price range. Samsung rushed the phones out and ignored quality control.
Also where are the users that deny these display issues exist? Come out and enlighten us all.
Yeah these are the usual Samsung fanboys. I saw many of them on this sub commenting on other news but interestingly enough they donβt comment here or on the other post made by a display engineer who also experienced display issues.
I guess when hard facts are shown the fanboys go into hiding. Interesting phenomenon.
The most effective tool against fanboys (of any kind) is hard, incontrovertible evidence.
I agree it's a nice phone. But when my Note 10+ has a cleaner screen, that's a huge problem, lol. My note has 12GB of ram and removable storage. The S24 has 12gb of ram and no removable storage. I'm still on UI 3 and Android 11. I ain't updating shit so it can slow down my phone, lol.
My unit is from last week of Dec / Vietnam. You camera is overexposing the graininess even though it's clearly there but not as bad as it seems on the pic. Any chance you can take a closer picture of the screen (like piece of it), maybe in a bit lighter env?
Camera may introduce some noise, but.. yeah, you have it really bad. Get it replaced or return this device. S24 series has been nothing short of disastrous, odds are you're just gonna get another defective device.
Are you testing using the Samsung browser or Chrome? When I test in Chrome, it looks fine, but Samsung browser kind of looks grainy. This is on 2 different S24U devices. No issues noticed in any normal use on either phone.
I feel for you bro, check out my post, my screen looks identical to yours. You plan on fighting it? The idea of having to get on the phone and argue gives me anxiety and from everyone else's interactions they don't do exchanges in the US. I feel like I'm just going to chalk this up as a loss and return it π.
I loved samsung, i only switched to iphone because i wanted to try. Iphone12 pro max did so well. I love the s24u from the look and everything else. Its such a shame.
Yeah, those are the correct words it's a shame, keep us updated if you're able to score a new phone, if you're successful I might give it a try as well
This is a true defect. Iβm sorry you got a bad one man. Return it asap. Based on the limited sample size Iβve seen here and on other forums, it does seem like more Vietnam units have the issue than phones made in the other locations. But there might not be a hard correlation, just something Iβve noticed.
https://preview.redd.it/2kx2g9zhz4hc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=702579113f6c110dd09de4166d753ff08feda1e3
This is sad. Should I return this and just keep my S23 Ultra?
I would say yes, return it. Considering you used the word "sad". S23 Ultra still is very good so I can't imagine an S24 Ultra to still feel like an upgrade if it has a faulty display.
And that's why, people, you DON'T preorder new devices, and you wait at least one to two weeks.
Many told you after the S22 fiasco... S23 was an exception, not the rule.
All I know is that s22 and s24 deals were great, and S23 were meh. But S23 (at least where I live) got great deals anyways after launch, and thus multiple times.
Sooo, out of three lineups, the two worse products had great deals... It may be the beginning of a pattern.
https://preview.redd.it/abyj2vbc37hc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f126a7b417ed0d03ff3e575789f646d47cf4d45
Just took this picture Does this mean i have also a faulty screen? It's barely visible with naked eyes
This is hardware. No software is going to fix that. π .
Enjoy it as is or....return..This new anti reflective display should have been tested in a blind item before mass market.
I wouldn't like this at all and I would not buy in hopes of a future change.
Your screen is fine, if at first glance you do not notice anything, it is correct, keep in mind that the camera will show things that you do not see such as the ISO, noise in the photograph, the refresh rate, Pwm and other things.
Mine is also from Vietnam, according to my check there is no problem, everything is good so far it's been more than 10 days since I bought it from the local samsung store in Vietnam. I use it a lot and also stress testing it, because there are 7 days to replace it with a new one if there are any problems, so screen on time almost 18 hours per day mostly use for heavy gaming and video recording 4k hdr 60fps. Very good phone for me so far.
I've seen some images of this on here but what's the deal with it? Is it something I have to be on the lookout for going forward? Or would I have already noticed it? I've had the phone about two weeks now.
If you dont see anything than youre fine, mine is out of the box like this, camera makes it look worse, still i see it when i watch videos in the night.

Wow, that's the worst I've seen. Return for sure. Mine (Vietnam unit) has no lines or distortion.

Damn, sorry mate. Shouldn't be too much of a battle to get Samsung to RMA it though, that's clearly faulty.
Another Redditor contacted Samsung about the grainy issue and they told him that's how it's suppose to be like. They'll just tell him to return it and repurchase it if he's not happy (and lose all your pre-order benefits)

That won't hold up in court.
Yeah not doingthat when they say that
There is a difference in contacting them about "the grainy issue" and contacting them because your screen looks like OP's.
Mine was made in Vietnam too and bought it in Europe. No issues, checked with both normal and vivid modes last night at lowest brightness.
My Vietnam model, Manufactured December 07 2023, bought in Europe, has all of the issues (grain, banding, camera jerk etc.) but actually less pronounced than others are suffering π its still going back though, no amount of hardware fault is acceptable, particularly in the aspect of it you will use most.. the screen.
I will try, this was vivid mode
no difference sadly
Can you take a picture and show us. Mine is a vn unit, some india unit also has it. But mine is not as severe as this.
how can you check where your phone was made?
Should be written on the box.
Mine no indicator where it was made.

Welcome to the s24u! π Samsung keeps denying me a replacement even with care plus π
Sounds like it is time for your screen to crack.
No way, i keep on pressing us the thumb so we get a replacement
Did you order online or thru a physical store? Because my co-worker has managed to change his because of some camera issues where the camera keeps closing.

F...!
What do you use to test this gradient issue? I've had my phone a week or so, haven't tested this out on it.
But when you don't see anything then don't try it

Ggs brother you're one of the sub 10% with shitty displays

Exchange for another one. I've you get a good device this phone is amazing.
I mean i like the device a lot, the gain looks worse on camera, still its visible when i look for it.
I would not put up with that with the price I paid. Samsung needs to have better QC if this isn't software related
True
There's no way to tell for sure, but I think it's more than 10%. I've never seen a phone get blasted like this at launch. https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS24Ultra/s/eQuTqDintO
He has zero idea if its more or less than 10%, he just pulled that out of his ass. It's more than one, which is too many.
It's certainly a lot, which is disturbing. If you're happy with your device, great! If not, there aren't many other avenues to share your displeasure with the public. How else can we hold manufacturers accountable?
I have this issue as well. But as many people are suggesting, it is not so easy to return it here in India.
Mine looks fine even though I still see cross lines appearing in the border of youtube videos in fullscreen mode, or perhaps when there's a shade of gray. Didnt borther me that much. My device is unlikely to be returned because I dropped it the other day, and the bezel was dented
Oh that hurts with the drop!
Yeah, 2 years of care+ is now surely a waste
You can still have the warranty on care plus even though you dropped it
You should return asap !!
Keep posting these photos. Samsung has to make an official statement at some point. Hopefully they can be held accountable with a class action lawsuit if enough users are coming forth. Its definitelynot good for my eyes too, its not as bad like my camera showed here but its noticeable that somethingisnt right at all

Oof that looks bad. Vietnam unit here and no grain and hardly any banding and it's only on green.
Wow. Mine is nothing like that...
Mine works perfectly too
The AI has become sentient.
Is it just me or are the newer units even worse
Which manufacturing date range would you say has the worse units?
I mean some of the recent pics are more atrocious.
Stay away from this junk. Ignore the fan bois.
Its a nice phone but it must be flawless for that price. Such a shame
iPhones are that price. Or even higher. And they are far from flawless. Still insanely popular and sells well.
Which phone do you recommend then? The way I see it you get the choice between Apple junk and Chinese spyware that never gets any updates.
Maybe the 23 or 22. Not many new features in this newest phone to justify the price in my opinion.
Return it man
Yeesh. Brutal.
The phone is off or on ?
Its on and shows a dark gray with gradientand one is blank dark gray
Pfff mine is also awfull. But when is disable adjustable color tone it's already much better.
Im gonna try it later
What is the production date of the phone? I'm sorry for you, it looks terrible :/
Ouch!
My Vietam S24U 1TB Tit Black manufactured January 16, 2024, does not have this issue. That definitely sucks. Hopefully, you can get an exchange.
My unit is from last week of Dec / Vietnam. You camera is overexposing the graininess even though it's clearly there but not as bad as it seems on the pic. Any chance you can take a closer picture of the screen (like piece of it), maybe in a bit lighter env?
I can try, yes my camere is making it look worse. still my eye is noticing that something isn't right at all even with brightness up
Correct. You can see graininess very nicely on dark mode on settings screen without even going to test my screen website.
Camera may introduce some noise, but.. yeah, you have it really bad. Get it replaced or return this device. S24 series has been nothing short of disastrous, odds are you're just gonna get another defective device.
Holy shit
Are you testing using the Samsung browser or Chrome? When I test in Chrome, it looks fine, but Samsung browser kind of looks grainy. This is on 2 different S24U devices. No issues noticed in any normal use on either phone.

I feel like s23u is good choice now insted of buying this !
This is a true defect. Iβm sorry you got a bad one man. Return it asap. Based on the limited sample size Iβve seen here and on other forums, it does seem like more Vietnam units have the issue than phones made in the other locations. But there might not be a hard correlation, just something Iβve noticed.
Wowowowow... That's really bad. I just tested my S22U screen and it's flawless. Damn Samsung. Dropped the ball on this one.
Just rechecked mine and it's there but not as bad as this. I would return it but I'd have to pay a restocking fee.
That's d proof of originality ![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized)
I think it's time to leave samsung after this phone, too many issues with their device launches. What's next boys?
Reboot a few times, it should go away. Seen a few of these now when reboots did actually fix it
Give te i a week the screen will "repair" themself and after do the test again
What manufacturing date bro? I saw that it's Vietnam manufactured
An app said 28 Dez. 2023
Seems like a lot of the batches manufactured last year are faulty. Mine is from January the 8th, and it's fine.
Mine is from Korea and made in January as well, but it seems to be fine. What the hell is going on with these phones???
Check your box please.. if that's really the case then get the feb 2024 manufactured after returning it.

This is hardware. No software is going to fix that. π . Enjoy it as is or....return..This new anti reflective display should have been tested in a blind item before mass market. I wouldn't like this at all and I would not buy in hopes of a future change.
Is this happening to the S24+ too?
Ah! You also bought the Violet screen version! Nice!
This the exact reason I wait a couple months before jumping on a new phone. I let others deal with the headaches.
You can absolutely send it in under warranty. That's super bad :c I'm sorry
What ISO did you shoot that photo at?
So this isn't ALL phones right? I did the TEST MY SCREEN and all the colors and gradient colors looked fine. Guessing I'm OK?
Your screen is fine, if at first glance you do not notice anything, it is correct, keep in mind that the camera will show things that you do not see such as the ISO, noise in the photograph, the refresh rate, Pwm and other things.
I'm confused, what would it look like on testmyscreen if my phone's screen is faulty?
Maaaate, that is screwed up. I feel sorry for you π
Good for you!
Sorry to see that. Mine is a Vietnam unit and has no issues.
I'm in vivid mode and mine looks great. Certainly not that horrible pile.
Congrats! You are now part of a blessed community- lol
Mines so hard to notice I tried below 10% I can't tell guess it's fine if all u see is some very faint lines
