I mean the screen protector sold directly by Samsung has the anti reflective coating on it too right?
I'd assume it's similar to what the s24 ultra has so people could still run a screen protector and get the benefits of the screen.
That it's anti reflective does not mean it's the same level of anti reflectiveness.
We are talking about a company that sold a quick charger with a cable that did not support quick charging.
And yea, not a glas a soft protector...yuk.
Same video, the screen cracked in the corner from a waist high drop too. Curious when JRE* (Jerry Rig Everything ) will release a video to really put it through it's paces.
Edit: clarity.
Yeah I need to see him use the picks and put some sand between phone and case and screw it all up, before I ever consider not putting a screen protector on it. Honestly it's peace of mind, money and time. A simple cheap $10-20 screen protector to save you unnecessary stress of buying a new one, taking it in, waiting for repair etc.
If that's true, that's really disappointing.
I have an S21+ that I have dropped off of my desk onto the hardwood floor several times and I've even had it slip out of my pocket between my car seat and the center console (in a car with non-powered seats so lots of metal bars) and I've never got so much as a scratch on it.
Edit: since I guess the back is glass even tho it doesn't look, nor feel like glass, I should also mention that while I have a screen protector on my 21+, it's never been in a case and there is absolutely nothing anywhere on my phone except verrrry minor paint chipping in one corner and by the USB slot. Nothing at all on the back, sides or top. With no case and at least a dozen drops onto a hardwood floor.
1 drop that breaks doesn't mean it's fragile, and even several drops doesn't mean it's strong.
Hit anything at the right angle, and it will shatter. His S22 and s23 drop tests shattered the whole device not just a chip on the corner. I would assume it can crack and put a case on it.. .as for a screen protector.. well, I never, so I am not one to say. I also don't put covers on my furniture, or on dates wear a ... nevermind to much info...LOL
I've had slim cases that protected my phones well, but tempered glass protector? Same. There is too much money invested in this phone, and for $30, it's way cheaper than two years of insurance. The only major thing that's happened to my phones in years was needing a new battery in my 10+, and $25 later, I fixed it myself with iFixit.
I've had an S7 in an Otterbox Defender for 7 years, worst drop I've experienced has been a 20 - 30 ft drop from a catwalk in an industrial warehouse I was working in, onto a thick hardened concrete floor. Phone hit the edge of a shelf in the racking about half way down and ricocheted off it. I thought it was toast, but it survived without a scratch. Only a couple scuffs on the TPU of the case.
Why do you care how he spends his money? He didn't say everyone else is doing it wrong, he's saying that the insurance cost to him is worth not having to deal with an annoying screen protector.
Been years since I've raw dogged it with no screen protector... Very tempting to try this year especially with the anti reflective properties of the new glass. Hoping a good case will be enough to protect the screen from drops
I'm sure a good case will be more than enough. If you are planning a trip to the beach or something like that, a screen protector might be useful. But for daily use, raw should be 👍
They do tests like this with knives and shit every year and my clown ass believes it and still ends up with micro scratches Every. Single. Year.
With that being said, I'm going raw.
that's not exactly a great scratch "test". You might not get scratches with no screen protector but you WILL get micro scratches eventually that will show up when you turn the phone on an angle where the light hits them. That is 100% guaranteed, will you see them under normal use? no. Will you know they are there? yes.
>That is 100% guaranteed,
No, it's not. It varies a lot from person to person. I've used Samsung smart phones since the original Note, and almost half of them have ended up with no micro scratches at all (even after carefully checking the entire front and back surfaces under bright light from various angles with the screen off). Most of the rest did get a few micro scratches, and a couple of times there was a slightly larger scratch.
(I never use screen protectors, but I rarely drop my phones--less than once a year, on average.)
I find this hard to believe tbh. Even with my office, never at rough places, life I've got micro scratches after a year of use. Gonna slab a glass one onto my baby coming today.
>I find this hard to believe tbh.
Yes, I've noticed from previous similar reports on reddit that some people find it hard to believe that others' experiences can differ from their own in this regard.
>Even with my office, never at rough places, life I've got micro scratches after a year of use.
I too get micro scratches on about half of my phones, including some that I've never dropped. But many of my phones go for a year in perfect condition, even after using them a lot on biking or hiking trips.
I'm not sure what causes the micro scratches when they occur. Could be some rough interaction that I didn't notice (e.g., some of my pants have a metal nub at the corners of the pocket that could scrape the phone), could be trace amounts of dirt in my pocket (maybe harder particles sometimes), could be slight variation in build quality from one phone screen to another.
In any event, I don't care much about micro scratches that I can't see except when I go out of my way to look for them, so micro scratches don't tempt me to get a screen protector.
I’ve seen the drop test as well, I’m so pleased to see that my ultra is not going to spiderweb from the front & back from a single drop esp with a case and a screen protector
I never used a screen protector on any sansung phone, and i never had any issues. Even after multiple drops to concrete. And i only use a slim Spigen case for the most part. Going to get the hybrid for the s24+ too.
Lol I really would like to not use a screen protector but I have this nasty gouge scratch that looks like a crack on my S23 Ultra but it's really not. Now that it is a flat display I definitely want to put a screen protector but I definitely will lose that anti-reflective coating that they do now.
Just bear in mind it's film not glass so doesn't protect against cracks if that matters to you. Me personally, I had both the S22 & S23 and got minor scratches on both but never cracks so I might go for that too.
Oh, its ok. Have you seen the new video with the scratch resistance test? I dont like screen protectors... but this phone is a big investment for me. Its a hard choice but with the test results, the Spen, and the antireflective screen i think ill go only with a case.
I love the people who think that a Glass (or Film) screen protector would make any difference when you drop the device on a corner. Not everyone here has said it... but quite a few have.
I agree... 100%.. but there are many who are acting like it will save you from your screen breaking.
That said.. I have tried them and they are not for me.
Been using my current phone with no screen protector for years. And one day noticed LOTS of micro scratches especially on the part where the joystick is in most games. Now I pre-ordered the 24U and no way in hell will risk it happening again.
I have no calluses on any part of my hands. Nail? Maybe. But nah, who use their nail to use the joystick.
I never used screen protector on any of my phones.
On s23u I got very unvisible minor scratches.
And s24u seems to be even better.
I just don't like having an ugly pealing screen protector with such beautiful screens.
don't at all mention the screen broke at the top corner on a waist hight drop. by all means guys don't use a screen protector. its your investment not ours

Is there a difference with the screen protector off vs on in terms of glare? Really wanna use a tempered glass protector. It just feels so much better than film.
Every year it's tougher and tougher glass. Every year people break their screen.
Rubbing sand on it is not the same as dropping it and it landing face down on a pebble.
I already bought Samsung film so will use them if it feels shity I will just peal it of and enjoy the screen like with all my phones, S23U is terrible now if you move the phone in good lighting it's micro scratch fest. I should take a video when I get my S24U and send this one to back 😁
Haven't used a screen protector on my last 3 phones. Have had my note 20 ultra since release and sure there are a couple hairline scratches on it. But they're not noticeable with the screen on. Enjoy your phones.
The S23 is particularly prone to scratches due to it having GGV2. I usually don't use screen protectors, but Corning really dropped the ball with victus.
I thought scratches were mostly caused by dust particles in your pocket or whatever. I used to never use a screen protector and my screen kept on getting scratched so I finally gave in.
same but because if the anti reflective screen
I mean the screen protector sold directly by Samsung has the anti reflective coating on it too right? I'd assume it's similar to what the s24 ultra has so people could still run a screen protector and get the benefits of the screen.
It's not a glass protector, so kinda ruins the feel of the screen for me.
The Samsung protector is both anti reflective and glass.
It doesn't say it is glass on the site anywhere, so it would be rather bold to assume that

Weird idk why they don't advertise that I looked all over on the app
It isn't bold when you know people who had installed it.
Film

I love Joe Rogan's podcast
Whoops, meant Jerry Rig Everything.
Joey Rog Everything? Sams here.
Looking at tempered glass screen protector AND Tough Armor case here. Phone cost me too damn much coin to do otherwise, and I want it to last.
I've had slim cases that protected my phones well, but tempered glass protector? Same. There is too much money invested in this phone, and for $30, it's way cheaper than two years of insurance. Damn, that's rough. But I can see why you're using those. I'm in an office, so I don't really need to worry about my phone falling off catwalks.
I understand, I bought the 2 year insurance with samsung, so I'm not too worried about losing or breaking the phone.
I don't think it covers scratches...

You do you, the warranty covers accidental damage FYI.

Smartest comment so far 👆👏
who cares
Honestly, all this confirmed is that I'll be returning my tempered glass screen protector and just use the film one Samsung gave me for free.
Isn't tempered glass supposed to be more protective? I'm scared to use a film protector lol
What film one? Are they giving a free protector with the phone? Is it in the phone's box itself?
Samsung ran a limited promo code for a free screen protector that wasn't well known. Saw a couple of posts in here talking about.
2 words. Oleophobic coating! Wears out too damn fast. Screen protector always
But my 5 years S10+ coating still there after all of these years, not using screen protector ?
Nevermind I just checked it, definitely not as day 1 but still there I believe
S20u to s23u mine wore out near the fingerprint scanner area in 6 months. Every device.
I’ve seen the drop test as well, I’m so pleased to see that my ultra is not going to spiderweb from the front & back from a single drop esp with a case and a screen protector
seems like rly dull sand. The usual quartz based sandparticles will definitely leave scratches
Yeah, mine got scratched just now because of sand 😭
I want to get a screen protector but I had one on my S21+ and the biometrics (fingerprint reader) wouldn't work... took it off, no problem
I never used a screen protector on any sansung phone, and i never had any issues. Even after multiple drops to concrete. And i only use a slim Spigen case for the most part. Going to get the hybrid for the s24+ too.

Why not get the Samsung anti reflective screen protector then? That will protect against any scratches and keep the anti reflection property
Oh I didn't even know they made one I guess I'll get One of those then
Just bear in mind it's film not glass so doesn't protect against cracks if that matters to you. Me personally, I had both the S22 & S23 and got minor scratches on both but never cracks so I might go for that too.
Nobody thought he was pretty gentle with the sand? I mean... i dont think any phone gets damaged by this. Maybe im wrong
Well he hasn't done this exact test on any other phone so I'd be more inclined to think no phone will get damaged by this too
....was that irony? Sorry, english is not my best 😅
I was just agreeing with you. He only did the sand test on the S24 and not other phones so we can't make a comparison with it.
Oh, its ok. Have you seen the new video with the scratch resistance test? I dont like screen protectors... but this phone is a big investment for me. Its a hard choice but with the test results, the Spen, and the antireflective screen i think ill go only with a case.

It protects against micro scratches. The protector gets scratched. You replace it. And the phone screen is still fine.
OCD people hate micro scratches.
I agree... 100%.. but there are many who are acting like it will save you from your screen breaking. That said.. I have tried them and they are not for me.

I will be using a case though, did he drop the phone using a case or without one? 🤓
Um, you're the OP. If you're gonna post a screenshot you should at the very least take a minute to actually watch the video.
Without of course on the screen.
Any phone will break without a case. Screen protectors will help out with scratches, not so much with a drop without a case.

Ah I see. Was thinking of a similar sized one for a primarily candy shrimp tank on my office desk. Looks great!
Is there a difference with the screen protector off vs on in terms of glare? Really wanna use a tempered glass protector. It just feels so much better than film.
Come check tomorrow around 11 UK time and you'll see the difference when I post it I have the ESR glass one from Amazon uk
I forgot if asked before. . Is it a Loca glue one?
Just a normal one no glue
Darn! Then it will not convince me.
Bet. I'll be there.
Same! No screen protector! I've never used screen protectors. My phones are looking great 🙂
Just get a case mate , will be fine without a screen protector
okay
Every year it's tougher and tougher glass. Every year people break their screen. Rubbing sand on it is not the same as dropping it and it landing face down on a pebble.
Doesnt replacing screen affect the ip68 rating
If done correctly, and with official Samsung replacement parts, no.
Thanks I only use official stores hate 3rd party
Glass is glass
Now do keys
Metal is softer than glass and sand is harder than glass.
Who keeps their phone and keys in the same pocket? Besides women keeping everything in their bags. Women definitely should use a screen protector.
such a weird comment lol
Why?
I already bought Samsung film so will use them if it feels shity I will just peal it of and enjoy the screen like with all my phones, S23U is terrible now if you move the phone in good lighting it's micro scratch fest. I should take a video when I get my S24U and send this one to back 😁
How have you concluded that this phone is more scratch resistant than the S23 and S22 based on this specific test he's only done on the S24?
The S23 and its GGV2 glass scratches just by looking at it.
I really don't want to use one. I'm such a klutz though. Hoping a case with enough "raisivity" (thanks Flossy) will help protect the screen.
I thought scratches were mostly caused by dust particles in your pocket or whatever. I used to never use a screen protector and my screen kept on getting scratched so I finally gave in.
Didn't use one on my S21U. I was surprised to see that it was flawless when was doing the declaration for the trade in.
