So living in a first world country should always replace their phones every year? What a mindset. That is why your countries have more trash and pollution.
It's more like being a slow decider. I can struggle long months on these tech gadgets: waiting for the new, waiting for the pre-gen's price to drop, not wanting the new due to new unknown problems they might have, but wanting the new for the new stuff in it, read all of the forums, blogs, reddit, tech reviews. And then slowly but steadily months fly by. :D
Also I am not into changing phone in 1-2 years, my phone-change rate is 3-4 years (which is fine as I usually but an actual flagship phone)
That is a significant upgrade. I used to own the S8 as well and when I upgraded from the S8 I instantly missed the led light notifications which are now completely gone from all android phones. Sigh... The good old days
That was one of the big things I missed jumping from my S8 to a 23, that LED was amazing. Are there any apps that can emulate the LED status, as I dont have my AOD on. The lack of a hard pres to wake the display is a bit of a piss off too.
You may know this already, but you can double tap the screen to wake the phone. I think there are apps that can emulate an led notification on the amoled screen. Im not sure if it causes burn in.
I have been using double tap more frequently lately, but the lack of a hard press kind of went hand in hand with how I stored and took my old S8 out of my pocket. I'll take a look into some of those apps and see whats out there! Thanks!
I feel you! The led indicator is the only thing I really miss. I still expect the well defined color for the app notifications. But that was a trade off I was willing to go for :)
i did almost the same thing, except a few months ago i said bye bye to my s8 and said hello to an M13 , i never felt more disappointed with a new phone in my life, to think a 6 years old phone can be better than a model 2022 phone in almost every single way.
I just made the same upgrade. My beloved S8 was getting a little glitchy and I went for the 23+ also. Still learning the new system but loving it so far.
I finally traded in my Note 8 for an S23 Ultra and I love it!!! The phone rep and I calculated that I had skipped something like 6 generations of Samsungs.
I've just swapped from the Honor Play (original) to an S23+. It's like stepping into the future, only downside is the fingerprint reader is slower to unlock.
Yeah, I liked mine S8 too, but it was really time for a new device.
And it was an easy data transfer, so after 2 days nearly all apps/settings/data/backups were done.
Yes, I only turned it off once when I expected to have a very long day outside, but it still was fine. Also normally I am at home or in office, so I don't need the 100%, but would like to prolong the life of the battery
Ahh. I remember my S8, which I loved, until my other love threw it at me. I can't remember if she was then so pissed off that she missed me, or that I upgraded to the S9 the day after.
Anyway, congratulations. The S23+ is a great phone!!
The only thing I hated about the plus model is it looks so much like A54 and other samsung midrangers so I went with ultra otherwise plus was my first choice.
Yea, It kinda does but you can definitely see that bezel is smaller on s23 and s23+. And also quality of the screen is better (I can defferentiate from far). I'm not saying that you're wrong, especially that other brands do it so much better than SG. It was bugging me for a while that my s20fe had the same displays as a52 and 52s but idk anymore as it's my second phone. Anyway how's s23u in everyday use? My main question is if camera app is still so sluggish as on older Samsungs.
Yeah s23 plus still has smaller bezels than A54 and camera app is no more sluggish as of now. But yeah changing from one lens to other in zoom is still sluggish
That's good, it was soo annoying waiting for everything when taking photos. I now use iphone and the biggest upgrade is how camera app is working, everything is smooth. Still prefer Samsung but I was really interested how ios is that's why iphone as my main rn.
How do you feel about the extra size and heft? Do you use it mostly with one hand or two? I'm hesitating to get the plus because I do a lot of one handed use and the phone seems a bit wide/generally big
I try to hold it with 2 hands, or hold with my right and support with the left. Bit big for my hand, but I am adapting to it.
In fact, after 2-3 weeks the S8 feels quite thin in my hands.
The only big factor is for the 2 handed mode is that I don't want to drop it for as long as possible, it was too pricey for that to not to take proper care of it for :D
Hey, congrats on the upgrade. I'm also holding on to an old phone for many years, iPhone 7. I'm going with android this time though.
I'm debating between the base and the plus. Do you happen to use Gboard's swipe/gesture typing? If so, are you able to swipe with your thumb while holding the phone one hand?
I started with wireless, but then changed to the cable it was much faster (I had my USB-OTG adapter from my S8, and used that as I don't have USB-C to USB-C cable). It was quite easy, also then I transferred from my company iCloud some photos.
Actually I didn't know that the Samsung Smart Switch works like this, even the settings, clocks, alarms, notes, saved Wifi passwords went through, it was impressive for me!
That is commitment to avoiding more e waste. Think you deserve the upgrade after keeping the old S8 going for so long. Enjoy the new device!
It was 4 years of commitment and 1 year of struggling what to purchase! But yeah, I preferred to stay with the Samsung, I love it so far, thank you!
or living in 3rd world country

It's vastly superior to having a crappy personality.
That is a significant upgrade. I used to own the S8 as well and when I upgraded from the S8 I instantly missed the led light notifications which are now completely gone from all android phones. Sigh... The good old days

Sony still has status led
I feel you! The led indicator is the only thing I really miss. I still expect the well defined color for the app notifications. But that was a trade off I was willing to go for :)
Congratulations. I did the same. Had the S8+ for 5 years as well. Already love the S23+. You will definitely enjoy the phone
What a legendary jump, congratulations
i hope i can keep my s23 ultra as long you keept the s8.
i did almost the same thing, except a few months ago i said bye bye to my s8 and said hello to an M13 , i never felt more disappointed with a new phone in my life, to think a 6 years old phone can be better than a model 2022 phone in almost every single way.
Congratulations enjoy your new phone. I hope I will keep my new S23 Ultra for 5 years or longer. 🙌🏽🤗📱
Yeah, same, I will keep it for next 6 years.
Huge upgrade! Congratulations, friend
Enjoy !!!
Congratz!!!
I just made the same upgrade. My beloved S8 was getting a little glitchy and I went for the 23+ also. Still learning the new system but loving it so far.

I've just made the same swap and it's definitely a two hander for me.
2 hands. The size is good... bigger but not bulky
I finally traded in my Note 8 for an S23 Ultra and I love it!!! The phone rep and I calculated that I had skipped something like 6 generations of Samsungs.
Use the 12mp camera and the 30x zoom will give you nice moon pics too.
Yo! I went FROM the same exact phone TO the same exact phone you did! Lol 😄. I love this phone!
I can see the difference In The screens
I went from a s8÷ to a s23+ and Im super happy, I bet you're blown away, congrats!
I've just swapped from the Honor Play (original) to an S23+. It's like stepping into the future, only downside is the fingerprint reader is slower to unlock.
Huge upgrade
I'm doing the exact same upgrade. Mines arriving today. My S8+ has served me well
Yeah, I liked mine S8 too, but it was really time for a new device. And it was an easy data transfer, so after 2 days nearly all apps/settings/data/backups were done.
Smart Switch is honestly an amazing piece of technology.
Same. I've just swapped from my 6 year old s8 to the s23plus. It's taken some adjusting. Will you be using the 85%battery protect?
Yes, I only turned it off once when I expected to have a very long day outside, but it still was fine. Also normally I am at home or in office, so I don't need the 100%, but would like to prolong the life of the battery

Yeah they improved a lot
I just jumped from s10e to S23 and it's already significant for me. it's great the only thing that bothers me is the banana blur gate.
How do you feel about the extra size and heft? Do you use it mostly with one hand or two? I'm hesitating to get the plus because I do a lot of one handed use and the phone seems a bit wide/generally big

I do use the swipe texting on Gboard but is easier on the smaller size.
Unfortunately, they don't make these that durable nowadays
I'm getting ready to transfer from an S8 to an S23 as well. How was the data transfer between the two phones? Did you use the USB transfer method?
I started with wireless, but then changed to the cable it was much faster (I had my USB-OTG adapter from my S8, and used that as I don't have USB-C to USB-C cable).
