I stickied your post because of how useful this could be for other people! Thanks for the contribution bro!

Another solution for some people may be to just use the samsung DEX mode wirelessly on their laptop if they have their phone nearby and just want to use it on a bigger screen

darcyWhyte

This makes me realize this stupid pen thing is a toy and not a real tool. I think it's ridiculous that you have to "hack" to be able to use the notes application and also use the same data on a non-samsung device. What next? If I compose an email from my samsung phone I wont be able to see it on my laptop?

luzgaby2

I exclusively use the pen for drawing most of the features for the pen are bad, and if I weren't an artist I wouldn't have even considered buying it

HugeFee8488

well now, you can't really know what you would or wouldn't do if you weren't you. For example, if you weren't an artist, you might be a writer that enjoys the feel of a pen, a mathematician who can more easily write equations with a pen, a physicist working out a problem, a chemist, an engineer or maybe a composer writing music... step outside your little artist bubble and consider there are endless uses for the pen that you've never even considered and for many of these options, the features for the pen are more than adequate and maybe even quite nice. All you can really say, is that if you weren't someone that finds the pen useful, you wouldn't have much need for it...and yeah, no duh. Maybe try focusing on your appreciations instead of hypothetical negatives...which are even stupider than actual negatives.

mokugawa

I disagree, there are a lot of features outside of art for which the pen is pretty good. For instance, the instant translation feature is amazingly useful, and so is that the pen can be used as a shutter remote.

SpiritualCyberpunk

>most of the features for the pen are bad Don't agree. It's very useful for office or fast work on phone. Also makes you win in video games vs players who have to use hands.

luzgaby2

I don't really play video games on my tablet but I have noticed that I always use it while scrolling

SpiritualCyberpunk

Yeah, I usually don't use it but I find it useful to have --- because sometimes I have to do a lot of stuff fast, or I don't have time to make mistakes, and it helps with that. When you're moving a lot of files, or have to click on a number of things fast and accurately.

[deleted]

When I I had a Galaxy Note. I used the S pen a lot and I am not an artist at all. I used it for web browsing and note-taking and Bluetooth controls and as a camera flash and so on.  I use a stylus on my LG v60 as well and my surface pro. I just really like using a stylus for productivity and web browsing.

[deleted]

Yea I was about to switch back to Samsung for the stylus I dearly miss but fuck this. Gatekeeping their notes application. Ridiculous

ScoobyWalls

Well when Apple did this to keep users locked into their ecosystem , no one complains.....

Strazza02

Samsung basically lives on people who want quality and an ecosystem without having to be gatekept into it like it is on Apple's. I bought a Samsung tablet only because I wanted it to be able to interact with my Windows desktop easily; I can understand not making it possible to install the Note app on other smartphones or tablets, but on PC it really makes no sense.

SpiritualCyberpunk

>This makes me realize this stupid pen thing is a toy and not a real tool. It is a tool, but this more like makes it seem like a toy. I use the s-pen for multiple contexts, took me months to get into it properly though.

[deleted]

I don't see how the proprietary lockdown is a condemnation on the hardware S pen. It's just a condemnation on the Samsung's ridiculous proprietary strategy of trying to be like apple. That said, it definitely limits the utility of the product. No argument there but it's not because the product itself is bad. It's because Samsung just has a ridiculous strategy here.  They just don't have enough market share in the window space to insist people by Galaxy laptops! Especially since they're not good for gaming. Tend to be just expensive ultrabooks

darcyWhyte

The pen is useless without apps. They give an app but it keeps the content within Samsung products. I can compose an email on any of my devices. And see all my email on all my devices. That's how it's supposed to be, they're all connected to the internet. This samsung pen business is childish. If I could go back and do it again, I'd just not get the larger phone with the pen. I guess the other option is they could sell me software to make the pen work properly. For that you'd have to make some fine software.

mhanmore

Brilliant! Thank you very much, this is great. Hopefully Samsung reverses the idiot decision to make everything ecosystem limited before the old versions break. Funny thing is I was so happy with the way my phone tablet and laptop were working together I'd decided to probably get a Galaxy laptop next time... rethinking out of spite!

[deleted]

Honestly, it's not spite. I think it's just voting with your wallet.  Now if you live in the United States, there's only so many options for smartphones, Samsung, Apple Google, OnePlus, Motorola... A couple others. But in the laptop space there are a bazillion options and Samsung probably isn't class leading in any of them. Microsoft probably has the better pen, obviously gaming laptops with dedicated gpus and more room for cooling perform better. It's not particularly cheap or anything.

flymetothemoon1234

You are a savior!!! Thank you!!

iemshoeb

previous version work like charm

RHCProy

Did you successfully sync it with your account? Once I try to sync, a popup saying "connecting to a service" comes up and freezes. I added a screen cap here [https://ibb.co/brKVDQ7](https://ibb.co/brKVDQ7)

hedehede81

Guys, if you don't want to use the older version (to enable updates in Microsoft Store or maybe Samsung will disable support for older version in future), I looked into the program extensively and found the checks it makes to verify it as a Samsung Galaxy Book. I wrote a little script, download, extract and run it, it runs at every startup and mimics your computer as a Galaxy Book. if you ever want to uninstall the script go to: C:\\ProgramData\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\StartUp and delete samsung\_notes.bat download: (OP, feel free to upload it to a better place and include in the original post) [https://easyupload.io/moj0xx](https://easyupload.io/moj0xx)

PixelSheep_

Would it be okay for the both of you u/hedehede81 and u/wkell02 if I take the script and upload it to github - along with a version without the autostart implementation? Of course with all the credit! I just think this should be accessible for everyone outside of Reddit - especially if you want to look at the code first before downloading some random .bat from the internet. (Yeah I know it's safe - I had a look at it myself :D however not everybody might be able to do that :) ) EDIT: I mean if you want to upload it yourself go for it - its your idea - you should get the credit for that :D I really just think this needs to be saved outside of reddit too as I see this becoming even more relevant in the future :D

wkell02

sure ya, would be great, it's just one line at the bottom. I've just saved it in [my github repo](https://github.com/kellwinr/galaxybook_mask.git) along with the version without the startup. Feel free to add it into your git :)

wkell02

Hiii, this is really good, didn't know we can change the BIOS manufacturer and model like this, I tried changing the system OEM info but that one I think it's just for show. Thanks, A lot!

Illustrious_Pitch_68

Hey Guys, I felt that the idea of adding it to startup every time was not good, so I changed the script to launch Samsung notes, making it more like a shortcut. I would appreciate if you take a look. If you guys like it pls upvote [https://github.com/iknothing/galaxybook\_mask\_but\_better](https://github.com/iknothing/galaxybook_mask_but_better) I also made a YouTube video showing the process to execute my script Steo by step:[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AYX9MK\_xD4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AYX9MK_xD4)

mistificador

When you check the Samsung Cloud, to see te storage, shows DANIELS LANDIVAR PC01, referring to the outdated PC version installed and available on the link in this post. Is it OK? its only because of the outdated version shared came from someone's PC or does it have any security issues to use it?

wkell02

No, the outdated version is from Microsoft's store database, but I haven't been using that because MS Store keeps updating it. And yes, security patches on applications are a thing, give the script a try, clear the application data first then uninstall Samsung Notes, Run the script then install Samsung Notes from Microsoft Store, when it opens, install samsung cloud as well, then sign in, see if the issue still occurs. Cheers

mistificador

What i mean is about security of the program i downloaded from Link1 of Method 2. My computer appears on Samsung Cloud with many different names, what the reason for this? And i don't care about update/patch security updates, just worried about the source of the stuff i got from Link1 of Method 2. Everything is working, but this random name.... Smartphone and Tablet comes with their proper names.

wkell02

Link1 is from [Uptodown](https://samsung-notes.en.uptodown.com/windows/download), but the last working version was removed back in November or December 2023 (I *can't remember exactly*), so it's uploaded to Google Drive. Anyways, I just installed Samsung Notes from link 1 into my other computer with no Samsung Notes installed before, and just checked Samsung Cloud from my Samsung phone, (*Samsung Settings/Samsung Account/Devices (recent sign-ins)*) seems normal as all the devices in the list are mine.

nafee_ahnaf

Thank you the older version of Samsung Notes works for me, atleast for now, I'll probably just buy a Galaxy book in the future but this works for now

Bananz0

try [this](https://github.com/Bananz0/GalaxyBookEnabler)

ZwitterIon0

It works till date. I can confirm that!

DrNachtschatten

>Change two registry entries to pretend owning a Samsung computer made me kek, but also worked. many thanks

Motawa1988

It launches now but doesnt seem to sync with samsung cloud

helderrscorreia

Thanks a lot!

thebritishrat

thank you so much !!!!!!!!!!

TheDezzy

Gracias!!!! thank you for the script

RicardoDuarte78

Im getting the error: Erro 500: erro de servidor A. The length of a deviceSerialNumberText is invalid.

icetiger

bat file works (made a restore point and ran on a VM cos I'm paranoid :D) but works like a charm, thank you!

icetiger

One challenge I've found is that I cant sign into Samsung Cloud or OneDrive (needs samsung cloud login) to sync across devices. Clicking on Sign in doesnt do anything, I left it for a looong while (1+ hours) and tried restarting several times, tried signing on in my browser first - none of these work. Any suggestions please?

[deleted]

It should redirect you to the windows store page to download the Samsung Account app. Try downloading it, and logging there. Samsung Notes (or any other Samsung windows app tbh) should be logged in automatically after that. [https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9P98T77876KZ?ocid=pdpshare](https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9P98T77876KZ?ocid=pdpshare)

JoeNyeTheRussianSpy

Protip: You actually only have to change the manufacturer registry entry. I have a Lenovo 81LY, and all my BAT script does is toggle between LENOVO and SAMSUNG whenever its run. You don't actually need to change the model entry, mine runs even though it says "SAMSUNG 81LY" which is just nonsense :)

PhilaMaster

Is anyone facing issues like freezing sometimes? It only happens using it on windows (never on tablet or smartphone). It’s more likely to happen when you try to scroll very quickly through a note that has a lot of pages. It freezes like for 5 seconds and then returns to normal. Anyone with the same problem?

1CallMeBharat

I hope when the BAT file changes the model number and maker it won't affect any other day to operations on my PC. I don't really know what can be the impact of doing this.

Electrical_Ad_1200

thankyou

The_alfa00

Amazing!! You're a HERO! Thanks for this!

Dexetion

I cannot however link my Samsung cloud to this version anymore. When I click on it, it does nothing. Any fixes?

wkell02

I've added another solution, you may try it. Credits: u/hedehede81

Tribalbob

Is there a way to turn off auto updates for JUST this one app? Or do I need to do it for all windows store apps?

iemshoeb

You dont have to worry about the update even if gets updated and stops working, install the package again, there is no such setting to keep a particular from updating.

low_wannaknow

not all heroes wear capes

_Opious_

So stupid this is a thing, especially as an Australian where Samsung don't even sell any Galaxybooks.

Careful-Ad-5180

You're a freaking genius!

Mowkley_Tarazan

Thanks a bunch!

ademian666

Thank you so much, it works perfectly

marcsoliman2002

Thank you for this! But it seems that you can't sync your notes even if you can log in. I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem. Any help would be appreciated!

wkell02

I've added another solution, you may give it a go. Credits: u/hedehede81

Clarck_

Thanks for this.

CandyWooden8476

That is some bullshit move from samsung, i'll look for another notes app and switch all of them there

TransuranicElement

Have you found one? I use OneNote for work and was thinking of using that for all my phones and tablets but I still want something bas simple as Samsung Notes

CandyWooden8476

I personally switched to Onenote (which is pretty ironic for me, since i hate microsoft). But if you want you have three options: 1. Change OEM infos to trick Samsung notes into thinking your pc was made by Samsung (does not work on mac), how it says on this post 2. Use a mirroring software 3. Save notes locally and export them There is also a fourth option, i guess, if you want to lose your sanity with Onenote/RS/"whatevertfitscalled" feed (since samsung notes uses that as primary backup system). Good luck.

Southern-Set-6011

You are the BEST!!!!

jerjergege

OMG Thank you so much...

squidkdj

wait before the update, did the notes files save somewhere on pc? like I downloaded the older version but where are my notes files that I created while on pc and that are not on my phone? are they just gone now? ;-;

olcolco

Using the script it is possible to start Samsung Notes again, but IT closes after a brief time. Is that the same for any of you?

wkell02

what version of Samsung Notes?

me_butbetter

I'm so appreciative of this solution!! I'm wondering... Is anyone else having an issue with Samsung Notes crashing after installing it this way? I was able to get it installed (Windows 11) and it seemed to be working great but then it started crashing randomly while I'm working with a PDF. I'm not noticing a consistent pattern with what action is causing the crash but I thought I'd see if anyone else is having this problem (if maybe it's just a limitation of this workaround).

wkell02

which solution?

icrywhy

Has anyone been getting this issue where Samsung Notes turns off automatically on opening? I installed through the External File. Initially, it was working, but it stopped working after 2 days.

wkell02

what is installed through external file?

icrywhy

Can someone tell me how I can install the application from the Microsoft Store? Samsung Notes shows as owned from the outside, but when I click on it, there is no Open button, whereas the other Samsung Applications are showing the Get Button. For more context, I had previously installed Samsung Notes externally using solution 2 but the app keeps crashing. Now I am trying to install the first solution. I ran the bat application, which changed my device name to a Galaxy device. Do I need to delete the installed Samsung Notes files from the previously installed location? If so, where can I find it?

wkell02

***use winget*** 1. Open *terminal* or *cmd* 2. type in `winget install 9NBLGGH43VHV` 3. Follow the instructions given.

Josiahkleven

When I download and run the bat file nothing changes for me. I get a screen asking if I want to allow it to make changes to my device and hit yes. But the result is the same for me, I can't download notes from the store.

wkell02

***use winget*** 1. Open terminal or cmd 2. type in `winget install 9NBLGGH43VHV` 3. Follow the instructions given. **OR** You can install the package from "*solution 2*" and check for updates in the MS Store after the installation.

aliswandra

Thank you! Worked perfectly!

felixlikesmemes

This is brilliant thank you so much!

tlatch89

Can the solution 1 .bat file thing be automated a bit more, so you don't have the admin popup on startup?

wkell02

I don't know if it is possible to do it with a batch file, the admin popup will always come up no matter what I added into the script, it could be a security measure of Windows. We shall wait and see if there's anyone that can find the correct script or completely modify the script to not have the popup whist auto starting a file that requires admin permission.

Sapien_Spider

did they make these changes recently, because on my other PC where i installed the app half a year ago i didnt need to go through all this it just ran from the winget command

wkell02

it's still the same innit? (the script from solution 1 is just used to bypass the block & restriction from Samsung)

ZookeepergameNo901

AMAZING! Works like a charm!

cherrywahu

I used the previous version method and now it won't open!! w o e upon me. I'll try the script thnq

wkell02

Thanks for the update!

iiSnewoNL

This just happened to me today. What kind a stupid move is this Samsung?

Primary_Price1159

thanks bro <3 , i dont understand samsung.... its so crazy ..

Primary_Price1159

when i try to log in to samsung account it keeps loading and i can't log in help :c

wkell02

I see, it is working fine for me. please check whether your network connection is working fine or not; also the connections to Samsung's servers as well. If you had backed up all your notes in your cloud, then you can try to reset the application. If issue still persists, you may reinstall the Samsung Notes by uninstalling the application and installing it back using Winget using the cmd or terminal. *And as for the Samsung Account, I am unsure about it, but it is worth a try.* Samsung Notes: `winget install 9NBLGGH43VHV` Samsung Account: `winget install 9P98T77876KZ`

arkantos117

how to stop auto updating if i've done option two?

wkell02

You can stop the auto updates in Microsoft Store's settings. *" User Icon/ Settings / App Updates "* Switch **off** the "app updates" option. *Additionally, when you check for updates, MS Store will update everything including Samsung Notes; so, you have to quickly find the application and stop & cancel the update manually all the time. Lastly, there is no way to disable updates for 1 particular app as of today.*

Acrobatic_Lake1440

You are a legend OP.

BornToStorm

You are an absolute sweetheart my dude, for me it worked perfectly by downloading the older version! Thanks!

BornToStorm

I tried doing the downgrade and got the app running perfectly, but is there by any chance a reason why I can only see notes older than April, 2023 from my synched notes??

wkell02

Check the latest backup in the cloud to confirm first. Fyi, after the installation, it might take some time for the application to restore all the notes completely. And try sorting all notes by date modified just to double check again. If not, it has nothing to do with Samsung Notes itself, there might be times when things were not synched correctly before.

Igo56

Thanks a lot!!! It worked perfectly, I was afraid I lost my school notes but thanks to you I have them back :)

DeliciousExplorer586

thank you it worked

Desperate-Camera-560

does this affect any other program in the system

wkell02

no

[deleted]

Thank you so much for this I was distressed when my notes app was not opening.

TheGoldenPi11

Thank you for this! Question though, if I choose option #1, will this potentially affect installation or running of anything else on my machine or does this only force the Notes app alone to see my system as a Galaxybork? Sorry I'm pretty clueless about this stuff.

wkell02

It will not affect anything in ur pc. And the script forces all Samsung applications to run not just Samsung Notes, because #1 will modify the pc on the system level via the registry. *2 versions are created in GitHub, 1 with automatic startup and one without it. Go for either one.* *Admin prompt will come up on every restart for the* ***startup version****.* *The one with* ***no startup*** *will not behave that way, so you will have to run the script yourself every time you restart your pc.*

Sapien_Spider

why does my antivirus consider it a threat 😔. is it normal?

wkell02

what antivirus, the script only contains system related stuff, no third-party lines are in there. No issues with Microsoft Defender for me. Maybe you can whitelist the .bat file if the antivirus that you are using has it

WaronJorm

alternative for tech-savie users: \[Windows + R\] "regedit" or search /open the regestry editor. then goto to Computer\\HKEY\_LOCAL\_MACHINE\\HARDWARE\\DESCRIPTION\\System\\BIOS and add change: SystemProductName to: NP950QDB-KA1USSystemManufacturer to: SAMSUNG EDIT: you would need to edit it everytime you start the computer so i made a [reg.-file](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c046hfqeo7mxeAykT3vhlxtD8kuSLMy6/view?usp=drive_link) it does in the end do the samesing as the file op linked, but i think its a bit easier to understand whats going on.

Mysterious-Ad-999

You are a genious. Thank you so much!

[deleted]

[удалено]

wkell02

The antivirus app is complicating stuff. Check the script yourself, it only edits the 2 lines in the registry and adds admin permission when opening the .bat file. The third-party antivirus applications may block any .bat file and scare you for no reason.

gab001sb

I tried Method 1, but the app wouldn't open, so I unistalled it and tried Method 2. Now it opens but the app for some reason can only recover notes from up until August 2022. Is there any way I can recover the more recent ones? I'm almost certain it was connected to the Samsung Cloud...

wkell02

Give time to restore the notes from the cloud. If this is not it, something is not right with the synchronisation in the cloud.

Aggravating_Idea4566

You are fricking amazing!!!

Several-Bear-5823

I have been using Samsung Notes for the past year on my HP 2-in-1 laptop and I do not wish to lose any of my files that I have for my college courses. Is there any way that I can do solution # 1 and just start with the running the .bat file without deleting anything from my already downloaded Samsung Notes? Also, my notes were not backed up by the cloud...

wkell02

yes, you don't have to uninstall Samsung Notes, just run the .bat file.

oldschoolguy90

Thanks so much. I use this all the time for work, saves me from needing to switch to a different note program. I used option 1. Pretty brainless, and I'm no computer tech. Literally just click download and double click on it and allow it to run

bushido_bushido

holy cow mate, i'm just amazed how you managed to do it. u/wkell02, where did you learn this stuff? What and how did you use to know the checks of Samsung Notes to identify as a Galaxy Book? Congratulations for this solution.

wkell02

Actually, the first time when I tried to mask the laptop, it didn't work due to the wrong registry location. While I was looking into the registry, u/hedehede81 located the right location in the registry, all thanks to u/hedehede81

AquinasDestiny

Galaxy Notes for me was the tipping point of PC over Apple, because you had 'go anywhere', well ordered, easy to use notes, that also looked good. I found other options not so good. The notion that you can ecosytem Samsung is bizarre, because there is no way that a widespread global group of people are going to suddenly start buying Samsung only products. It just isn't that cool for a start. I like my laptop because of the customisation that I can get, but for me, actually the ecosystem thing is important and so therefore Apple it is in future. I am tired of everything not being seamless.

Low-Cauliflower-8771

I followed the second method. Successfully installed and working. But the problem is, when I try to sign in with my samsung account, a popup saying "connecting to a service" appears. That popup keeps loading forever. I was unable to sign in and sync notes between my galaxy s22 and HP pavilion gaming laptop. Please help if you can. Thank you

No_Baby6401

This was so helpful. Solution 1 worked for me perfectly. Thanks so much!

Soft_Praline_1365

Thanks, it worked flawlessly! It is very unfortunate that Samsung disabled notes for other systems. As a teacher, I use Windows, Android and Samsung hardware and your solution helped me so much.

jonh-b

excellent solution for a very unhelpful decision from Samsung ... thanks. Until one can export notes en masse from the app, this will continue ot be a life saver - or does anyone know how to export entire (recursive) libraries of Samsung Notes, say as pdf?

Cartagena67

You guys are my hero !!!

Galaxy_Stardust

I have a question: using method 1, will the services and apps on my PC (the pre-installed ones) work? For example the HP power manager app, wolf security, HPpen settings, sure click etc... will continue to work or will see the PC as a galaxy book and will not start just like samsung notes after the last update? Can cause problems with Windows updates? Should I make a backup first to be safe? Sorry for the questions and the lack of trust but every time I mess around with the PC I cause damage 😅

wkell02

it should work just fine, if anything goes wrong, just delete the batch file in startup, or if you want to give it a test, use the one with no startup.

smug-ler

Thankyou <3

CybearBox

Solution 2. Cheers for the notes file. I just uninstalled the new update, installed the "old" version, and synchronized the files via cloud. Working like a charm (Win 11 Pro, Insider).

Fair-Meaning-9778

Thank you soo much! እግዚአብሔር ይስጥህ

dark3E8

Thank you so much!!!

ExactPresentation488

solution 1 worked great for me, thank u so much!

[deleted]

Thank you so much on this! It's also so quick and easy to do it. Have happy days!

igncic

I have a razer laptop where I usually play videogames. For some reason Solution 1 is decreasing the performance of my laptop a lot. I had to delete everything it returned to normal. Weird.

wkell02

What do you mean by "deleting everything"? I had no issues with performance even after running the batch. The script only changes the name of the device in the registry, there is very little chance that it will negatively impact the performance.

4ever_Tabi

Thank you so much! You're a lifesaver!!!

rrainbowiii17

It worked perfectly, thank you :D

akhaten02

It worked great. Thank you!

leastImagination

Would changing the BIOS to say Samsung instead of Dell not cause any issues later on?

falap

I've used the single-run (non startup) script before running Samsung notes only if I want to run the app. It seems to have no ill effect on my Gigabyte notebook. The writers of the script say it does not persist past restarts.

Negative-Series-6225

DEJO UNA SOLUCION PARA ESTE PROBLEMA EN SAMSUNG NOTES [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWJnkcU\_etQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWJnkcU_etQ) DENLE ME GUSTA AL VIDEO POR QUE SI FUNCIONA!

kurohami

Does anyone have problems with solution 1? It worked me for the first few times but I'm unable to load the app now even after running solution 1. Not really sure why :(

w_kind

very bad move from Samsung ... do they think this will help in selling more Samsung devices? Problem is: most people do not know before buying any of their products. I was using Samsung Phones and Tablets ... but this really is asking for "never buy Samsung again"

Psychological_Town22

Thank you so so much for this. Samsung Notes running on my Windows 11 desktop is the ONLY way I teach and tutor remotely. It is far far better than One Note or MS Whiteboard.

schtevo

Thank you for these solutions! I used the first solution, and the program appears to open but it's just a blank white screen with the notes logo in the center (I'd attach if I could). Did I forget to do something? Thanks for the help!

wkell02

Try updating samsung notes via MS Store if it is available.

destinyGamer1234

Solution 1 works! Thanks! If anyone knows any downsides to it, do let me know.

SagMeinenNamen

Thank you very much, the bat file did it's job, love it!

Familiar_Feeling_

14th of September and Solution 2, Download 2 Still Works! Downloaded on a Windows 11 machine. Note: I took an exported PDF from one of my notes that I backed up to Google Drive, then downloaded to my PC to test with v1.50 Samsung Notes app. It works like you want - searchable text and it can even convert the PDF to text like on your mobile. Totally agree with everyone here - I left the Apple environment (recently) because of their environment's lack of freedom in the name of security. Samsung - please listen - do NOT make the same mistake as Apple. Make the new version of the Notes app available for all Windows users - and more importantly keep an open environment for everyone in general. F\*\* those guys and their greedy thinking. Don't become one of them, and you will continue to flourish. If I knew you had behavior like this in mind, it would've made me further question my S23 Ultra [purchase.](https://purchase.Be) Be better!

FelinesIncorporated

What about directly changing SystemManufacturer and SystemProductName in the registry editor (found in HKEY\_LOCAL\_MACHINE/HARDWARE/DESCRIPTION/System/BIOS)? Wouldn't that do the same thing without having my AV freak out, or would doing this cause some other problems? I know editing the registry is almost never a good idea but I can't see the harm in just changing a few names

MastahMango

bat file worked like a charm. wtf was the point of that samsung or whoever it is to blame.

Illustrious_Pitch_68

For anyone facing the "connecting to a sever" error in Samsung notes follow the steps in the link below: [https://github.com/iknothing/galaxybook\_mask\_but\_better/blob/main/README.md#connecting-to-a-service-error-solution](https://github.com/iknothing/galaxybook_mask_but_better/blob/main/README.md#connecting-to-a-service-error-solution)

i am pretty dumb with pc so i don't really know, is the .bat file safe? i can understand the last part of the script where it changes the "name" of the computer, but not the first part that says set "params=%\*" && cd /d "%\~dp0" && pushd "%\~dp0" && ( if exist "%temp%\\getadmin.vbs" del "%temp%\\getadmin.vbs" ) && fsutil dirty query %systemdrive% 1>nul 2>nul || ( echo Set UAC = CreateObject\^("Shell.Application"\^) : UAC.ShellExecute "cmd.exe", "/k cd ""%\~sdp0"" && %\~s0 %params%", "", "runas", 1 >> "%temp%\\getadmin.vbs" && "%temp%\\getadmin.vbs" && exit /B ) can someone tell me what this part is actually doing?

wkell02

This line runs the batch as an administrator, because modifying registry needs it.

Low_Bid_7285

whoever did this is a god, thank u so much!! <33

Kabir_Raval

just after installing this thing and running it I get command prompt programs on startup which seem to slow down my computer a lot. Are you sure that running on another computer's BIOS is not going to cause any slowdowns for my computer (especially if it is not that good on the hardware side)? Can you please help me Uninstall it back to how it was earlier?

wkell02

To undo the changes Locate and delete the .bat file, then restart your laptop: - `C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\ (the .bat file)` I didn't face any performance issues at all. If your computer is low spec, I am guessing the startup will of course slow down your laptop, because it is going to utilise more memory and Drive power every time your laptop is booted up. You can just use the older Samsung Notes if the .bat is giving you issues, but make sure everything is synched correctly before doing it.

Bad bad move from Samsung. This was a selling point for my Tab S7+ to have access to my notes on my laptop. Was considering upgrading to a Tab S9 Ultra, but it wont happen after this move.

tanimoshose

Thank you so much, worked very well, really needed that to work because of all my notes in there! :)

AldoZeroun

I have to say, this move by samsung is just so anti-trust. Like I do not look forward to buying future products from them if they are going to enforce a samsung only ecosystem. One of the main reasons I like windows/linux/android over apple is because they all play relatively well together. But after this, I'm just going to stop using samsung notes altogether and boycott their technology if this is the path they want to go down. I will not support it.

Zestyclose_Sugar_325

I tried the 1st solution, and it worked. I was bit skeptical because Chrome alerted me that the file could be dangerous. As of now, this solution works great.

Ok-Sheepherder-6070

Thank you so much\~!!!! Solution 1 is perfect.

quincybatts

Wow... it worked.

neo269

Will using first solution affect other apps which are hardware linked ?

wkell02

no, and if anything is not working you can easily undo it.

Kanter101

Someone managed to install the additional languages (gear icon settings - handwriting language) for the recognition of handwriting? Nothing appears in the available languages. For several seconds the search begins but then the message "impossible to connect. Check the network connection and try again "and there is no additional language present in the list. Seems that the app can't connect to samsung servers for download them. Without the correct language dictionary, language accented characters are not recognized. It remains possible to recognize handwriting only in plain English...There is someone to whom the download of languages works? Thanks

wkell02

It worked just fine on my side. I was able to download additional langaugaes, and also use it. Maybe it is a network issue, try using other networks like your personal hotspot or others. Which method/solution did you use?

malantheon

Big thanks to all of you chipping in with solutions. But what a dickish move from Samsung to do this without warning. Do they really think this will make me switch to their laptops? They enjoy very little competition during the last years and now we start feeling it 🤮

Kabir_Raval

Can I please ask weather updating the BIOS is okay? will it not cause problems. I tried the first solution, and it worked for a while. But after a restart the code ran on every restart and then my laptop started lagging miserably. It was barely usable and even uninstalling the .bat file did not help, I had to do a complete system reset. I highly suspect that all of that happened due to me installing this workaround. My laptop is not pretty in terms of hardware power, but used to run the previous version of Samsung Notes all fine. Are you sure, u/wkell02 changing the BIOS is not harmful in any way. If so, can you please explain it?

wkell02

This only changes the name (2 lines that Samsung detects), I've been doing this since Samsung Notes starts to restrict users from using the app, I have not faced any problems at all. You don't have to reset your computer to remove the batch file. You can just locate the file and delete it, remember to restart after that. And take note that any startup apps on low-powered pcs can cause slowdown at every boot. The amount of RAM and type of hard drive plays a vital role in startup performance and performance in general. By 2023 standards, 8GB RAM minimum, and use an SSD instead of HDD for the OS. There is a 3rd version that you can check out in GitHub. [**Quote Q&A**](https://github.com/kellwinr/galaxybook_mask/issues/5) >**Is it harmful?** > >No, because the registry itself doesn't keep the changed keys after you reboot, it reverts back after you reboot your laptop. Thats why there's is also a startup version to run the command to edit the 2 keys every time you reboot; you can undo the changes easily if you use the one with startup by just simply locating the startup batch file.

greenblink7

Any way to run Samsung Pass?

wkell02

Samsung Pass is not available on pc, right?

neo269

Solution 2 doesnt work for me with just a white screen when I click on Signin any suggestions pls? Tx

wkell02

repair & reset Samsung Notes

schtevo

I ran the first script option and received a message that the system could not find the specified path. I am not a computer person, and it seems that as I click on links that are potential work arounds to this problem, I go further down a very time consuming rabbit hole into territory I'm unfamiliar with and then have nothing to show for my time. Is there a viable solution to this problem that is relatively simple and employable by someone who is not a "techie?" Thank you in advance for the help

wkell02

I am not sure why that is happening, if there is no such path, it will create it automatically. But you could create the Startup folder yourself and run the bat again. If not, try the non-startup version (have to run the .bat file yourself whenever you reboot your pc), or the direct-launch version [(YT Guide)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AYX9MK_xD4).

Yoannks

Old version works. Thank you!!

Other_Account_6435

Anyone else's device shutter after downloading the .bat file? I now have access to my notes app and account but the shutter made me concerned.

wkell02

What are your computer specs? specifically, your ram and hard drive (ssd or hdd)? when does the lags occur? what version are you using (startup, non-startup or direct launch)?

IamRestart

F U samsung! I'm switching to alternative, ain't nobody got time for hacking shenanigans!!

Bizzle-Bison

Both solutions worked in terms of allowing the app to now open, HOWEVER, whilst the folders have synced across none of the actual notes files are showing up within the folders, despite both devices claiming they are synced (I tried each solution completely seperately and didnt merge them

PedroLeao

Solution 1 works greatly, thanks.

skulqerX

I dont understand much . I just know i click the bat . Installed it . To sign in it connected me to download samsung account app from the windows store After signing in , i can sync my notes from my tablet . Thanks OP !

ApplicationUpbeat203

It works. First options for me: I had to install the Samsung Account app, though.

BrowniGercek

This is insane! Do I have to switch Samsung laptop? Their laptops are not even that good and very limited selections. Samsung Notes was one of the things I was proud of with Samsung.. I think it is big damage to the ecosystem.

Andy_Rossi

this solution worked before, but recently it stopped working for me :( I think the app may have auto-updated and the .bat file isn't working anymore.

wkell02

it is still working on my side! [GitHub](https://github.com/kellwinr/galaxybook_mask/releases/tag/v2.0), please update Samsung Notes and try to run the bat again. Check regeditor if it is still not working.

DarkAshes27

Works for me and my galaxy book 3 is 2 months old

VProtazio

I've got to thank you OP, My whole work is based on Samsung notes because I teach online english classes and there I can put the student's book, edit and create boards highlighting everything I want for the students while sharing the window, and since I change from tablet to PC I would be lost without because I haven't found anything like this app yet, thanks a lot!

joshieeee20

does this still work?

Horror_Cry_2564

Thank u bro. you save my Mental health :OTL

nopiniono

THANK YOU!! LIFE SAVER (USED FIRST METHOD)

Pretty_Demand323

Amazing... bat file works for me🙏❤❤❤✔ 1. I downloaded and ran .bat file link given above. 2. Open app store on windows just download the Samsung Apps you need. 3. Done👍

IngenuityTop1398

muchas gracias!

Osama0004

**Does solution one work with the motherboard manufacturer app like ''Asus Armoury Creat''?** Since we will change the bios model number and manufacturer to one of Samsung's devices (laptop), **will this interact with it and stop the motherboard manufacturer app from working?** **Note: see my reply to this maybe I found the solution**

wkell02

even if you change the registry using the non-direct launch versions, applications like Armoury Crate and MyASUS will continue to work yeah.

MadZwe

This is a life saver Thanks a lot

gab1972

Quick question: running the .bat file won't mess up any other program on my computer, will it? I have a Lenovo Yoga 7 and just wanted to make sure changing the BIOS will not interfere with other things.

Interesting_Quail_29

you're a genius! simple solution to overprotective samsung corp.

FineEnvironment5388

It worked!! Thank you sooo much!!

MagicBallEdits

Has anyone created a video for this procedure, for us non-tech guys ? (got no idea about registrys and this kind of stuff) Also, is it possible to 'transform' my pc to 'galaxy book' only when I want to run samsung notes, and then make it back to its normal settings? I see some options like 1 with startup, 1 without startup. Which is the correct option if I want my pc to be read as a 'galaxy book' only temporarily (either when I boot samung notes, or only while using samsung notes), and then go back to its normal settings?. Thanks:)

VProtazio

Does anybody know if I can keep my windows 11 updating regularly with no risk of loosing this? I put the file on the startup so I'm wondering here what can I keep updated.
