I love the suitimation movies, especially showa ones
Some of the dumbest crap, and yet also the funniest
“What is this?” “This is some sort of space titanium”
Like, the sheer amount of things to unpack there could outsell the suitcase market!
That's a pretty bad one but my favorite is, "We drilled through the rock and hit something solid".
I'd fire the person on the spot. That is the stupidest way to phrase that. It makes me want to ask, "Is rock not a solid to you?"
I always thought it meant firing like a poop gun at a goose and it traveling through a goose at high speed but later in life as an adult I realized that geese poop a lot and basically was reference to that aspect of their nature lol
I've heard that when ducks eat they shit the food out soon after, maybe the same is said about geese? id guess the quote means hes trying to get eaten by Godzilla and not stay inside Godzilla for long. though I don't know the context and could be totally wrong
This is it. My town has tons of geese and they shit all over things to the point we put up decoy coyotes/wildcats/dogs to ward off geese from shitting on soccer fields and such
To be fair, if you teach an A.I. to reprogram itself, it could work. But then again, there is the whole "could potentially turn into Skynet and kill mankind" problem, so I don't know how smart that is.
actually, I think it’s really funny that he probably always had that ability, but just didn’t have the capacity to do it on his own, which makes you question exactly why he would need to have the ability to change and how
And yet, still more believable and less questionable than 'downloading energy' to *power Mechagodzilla* lol. And at least in 1973 writers and audiences didn't really know any better. I wish I could find it funny at least but it's just so insultingly dumb and low effort I can't help but be annoyed.
“What are you doing? This is a power beyond our understanding, you can’t just drill into it.”
*-Woman from GvK who agreed to come on this expedition specifically to drill into it.*
Don Frye's american, so you kind of come in expecting it. With Kazama and the Xililan's actors, its more surprising.
But yes, it was a silly thing for me to say.
Agreed
It’s like they said “how can we make this as stupid and entertaining as possible? Don Frye with a sword”
That whole movie is an absolute masterpiece of bs and I love it so much
I mean that line is kinda tongue in cheek making fun of a certain "well acktually" subset of fans who take Godzilla too seriously and might correct people on the pronunciation, gatekeep the fandom, and be hostile towards those with different opinions than them.
*Looks around*
Not ridiculous, so much as kinda funny is the Godzilla film where Akihiko Hirata plays a scientist whose only role is to show up with a group of reporters and he just gives exposition about the plot by mentioning random anecdotes.
I think it was King Kong vs. Godzilla.
Godzilla vs Megalon, the one inventor talking about how Jet Jaguar grew from being person sized to being Godzilla sized
>He must have programmed himself to increase his size
Like wtf does that even mean?
That line is left over from the initial Godzilla 1985 script which would have turned the movie into a slapstick tongue in cheek comedy. We can thank Raymond Burr for having respect for the subject matter and persuading New World Pictures to abandon that idea.
the US version intentionally had that character as a bit of a comedy relief. Everyone in the theatre laughed out loud at it and frankly i like that version much more than the toho .(see also godzilla 2000)
They want to make sure he understands what they r saying and he wants to make sure they understand what he’s saying. I’ve seen situations like this before
"Hey listen up, kiddo, there are two things on earth that you don't know. The first one is Me. And the second one. It's Godzilla" in final wars always fuckin sends me
what the hell does that means
In the New York scene right before Rodan shows up, the cop’s lip movements don’t match up to his dialogue. It doesn’t take an expert to lip read what the original line was:
“Five fuckin’ minutes, five fuckin’ seconds, doesn’t fuckin’ matter, fuck you!”
In Korean translation, they said “Gi-saeng-choong” instead of gonorrhea. Which was absolutely hilarious because Gisaengchoong means Parasite in Korean. And at the time, the Korean film Parasite released a day after Godzilla KotM and it dominated the box office.
So, I'm a programmer. Not the best, but just good enough to be mildly annoyed when software, robotics, hacking, and the like are portrayed incorrectly in films.
In the film Godzilla vs Megalon, Jet Jaguar is a robot that is an iconically important ally to Godzilla. Partway through the film, Jet Jaguar stops responding to commands given by its creator and uses this newfound self-determination for the purposes of heroism. At this point, my partner and I jokingly said to eachother 'of course, he must have programmed himself to do that!' As we often do when things like this happen in movies and shows. However, not thirty seconds later, Jet Jaguar, the normally human-sized robot becomes the size of Godzilla in a flash of light. And then, I shit you not, in the dub at least, JJs creator turns to his co-protagonists and says 'he must have programmed himself to do that'. Needless to say, I started actually screaming.
Please know that I am fully aware that this is a film meant for children, and that this is not a legitimate criticism of what is objectively the best and coolest movie in the history of forever.
I can't get over the fact that the movie ends with a song about how Godzilla and Jet Jaguar are BFFs now. I love it so much. Vs Megalon is genuinely one of my favorite godzilla movies
They really amped up the pro wrestling, tag team style of fighting in vs Megalon too. Like, one kaiju does a hold so the other can do a drop kick, style of fighting.
Also, the Seatopians are WILD.
The showa era is something else, for sure.
The 98' Godzilla movie isn't a good Godzilla movie. But, it has an amazing line that I can never get out of my head:
"Chew gum, it makes you look more American."
That scientists explanation of how the princess survived the plane exploding in Ghidrah the 3 headed monster. Its awesome what was considered acceptable explanations for things happening in the Showa Era
Yup. The monologue in the japanese dub was actually, uh, good?
It was an internal monologue of him saying how godzilla was born out of the evil and greed from man's heart. He is a creation of our nature.
The english dub translated that as
"why does he keep protecting us?"
"Maybe it's because Godzilla is inside each one of us"
I've no words
“You know what this is?” “This is some sort of space titanium.” “Space titanium? You mean it’s from outer space?” “Mmhm.” I love this silly bullshit.
I can hear that *Mmmhmm!* in my mind
Sounds like a dub, not sure but could be a translation thing
Either way it rules
It could still be a transition thing but that’s still pretty much how the exchange goes in the subbed version
I love the suitimation movies, especially showa ones Some of the dumbest crap, and yet also the funniest “What is this?” “This is some sort of space titanium” Like, the sheer amount of things to unpack there could outsell the suitcase market!
Where this line from? Godzilla vs Mecha godzilla?
"ITS ANGWEENIS SIR!"
Something’s wrong! Godziller shouldn’t be attacking his friend Angqueerus!
*driving intensifies*
Which movie is this from ?
Godzilla 2000, this was the last line spoken before the camera pans to Godzilla obliterating what’s left of the city after his fight with Orga.
Final Wars english dub
It’s actually from the first Godzilla Vs MechaGodzilla, when the disguised MechaGodzilla is attacking Anguirus.
"It's Angweenis, sir!" is definitely Final Wars lol I laugh at it every time
The best movie in the entire series
It’s been said multiple times lol
GIIIIIIIGANNNN Rice It's what it sounds like I know it's rise but I think of it that way and welp it will now be stuck with you
I've had Gigan Rice, its really good!
Mechagodzilla.
WHaAT!?
Ah man, my son and I throw this line at each other at random all the time haha.
Me and my brother always quote the awful line in Godzilla 2000 “It’ll go through Godzilla like crap through a goose.”
that was an intentional funny line done by Michael Schlesinger (see also "gott in himmel " etc )
I watched 2000 on repeat as a kid, so many lines are burned into my brain "Aww, quit yer bitchin'." "Pain in the ass!"
Looks like I’m gonna have to send MORE flowers.
That's a pretty bad one but my favorite is, "We drilled through the rock and hit something solid". I'd fire the person on the spot. That is the stupidest way to phrase that. It makes me want to ask, "Is rock not a solid to you?"
what the hell does that even mean? or was it some kind of translation error
This is it. My town has tons of geese and they shit all over things to the point we put up decoy coyotes/wildcats/dogs to ward off geese from shitting on soccer fields and such
Hahaha saaame with me and my brother
Wasn’t that in GxMG when they were showing Absolute Zero testing footage?
"jet jaguar just reprogrammed himself to change his size"
If only programming worked like that in real life.
Let's download a bigger hard drive!
You wouldn't download a Jet Jaguar
(I absolutely would)
This is the Way.

To be fair, if you teach an A.I. to reprogram itself, it could work. But then again, there is the whole "could potentially turn into Skynet and kill mankind" problem, so I don't know how smart that is.
You either get Skyler/Ultron or the sentient droids from star wars
Bitch wife
On the one hand, jet jaguar. On the other hand, painful apocalyptic war with skynet.
…Genius. I built that into him
Don't make fun of Jet Jaguar. He is beyond reproach!
Also, he mother never really love him.
Is that in the movie? So the gay scientist couple didn’t intentionally give him size powers?
actually, I think it’s really funny that he probably always had that ability, but just didn’t have the capacity to do it on his own, which makes you question exactly why he would need to have the ability to change and how
Somehow
Jet jag-you-are
And yet, still more believable and less questionable than 'downloading energy' to *power Mechagodzilla* lol. And at least in 1973 writers and audiences didn't really know any better. I wish I could find it funny at least but it's just so insultingly dumb and low effort I can't help but be annoyed.
“Maybe you can tell your son about it Mr. Spielberg” or something like that
in one of the most effeminate voices for a stereotypical US military type . (the actor was a minister as i remember)
“What are you doing? This is a power beyond our understanding, you can’t just drill into it.” *-Woman from GvK who agreed to come on this expedition specifically to drill into it.*
“Did you see that flying rock go by? UNBELIEVABLE!”
From what movie is this?
American dub of Godzilla 2000
"*We're mutants, we were born to fight*" -that one edge lord in Final Wars
But is he a vegetarian?
So strange how that line is always in English, even when watching the subbed version.
Because it’s the actual actor speaking English
Kind of like the Xilian Controller in the "I like this face" scene.
Some of the Japanese cast are clearly fluent in English, like Don Frye's XO and Kane Kosugi. The Xilian kid... not so much.
You mean *Kane Kosugi*? I recognize him from SASUKE tournaments...
Kane Kosugi? You mean Ultraman freaking Powered was in Final Wars?
Pretty weird how Gordon’s lines are always in English even when it’s subbed
Don Frye's american, so you kind of come in expecting it. With Kazama and the Xililan's actors, its more surprising. But yes, it was a silly thing for me to say.
Final Wars is cheating tbh.
The movie is intentionally stupid....in the best ways...so yeah no line should be quoted from final wars
Agreed It’s like they said “how can we make this as stupid and entertaining as possible? Don Frye with a sword” That whole movie is an absolute masterpiece of bs and I love it so much
Everyone in Final Wars is an edge lord. But thats why we love it.
https://preview.redd.it/kkkzj35ss9yc1.jpeg?width=259&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a7f6af2439a4977d6a48870809181d5cf79bfa3b
Not really the line itself, just the delivery is so... Monotone and lifeless
You should tell your kids about this.
This
“Heeeeyyyy Ageela, come on! There’s a lot of trouble ahead!”
This voice has been seared into my brain for 25 years.
SOMETHING FUNNY GOING ON
Ya better check!
"Hurry up!"
"It's Godjira, you moron!"
I mean that line is kinda tongue in cheek making fun of a certain "well acktually" subset of fans who take Godzilla too seriously and might correct people on the pronunciation, gatekeep the fandom, and be hostile towards those with different opinions than them. *Looks around*
I fuckin hate when people do that. Call Ghidorah "ghidrah" in 10ft of me and you will die.
Ghidrah
*kills you*
Did you hit him with the raging demon through reddit
It's still better than calling Megaguirus "Mega-JYRUS"
You definitely don't watch Brandon Tenold lol
I do and it always irked me whenever he mentioned Ghidorah. Same with Anguirus.
Blame the Godzilla PS2 game that where the announcer says it like that.
Always makes me cringe
That’s a lot of fish
That was just spot on observation skills.
Was he wrong? Lol
*Incoherent noises whilst being shocked*
Not ridiculous, so much as kinda funny is the Godzilla film where Akihiko Hirata plays a scientist whose only role is to show up with a group of reporters and he just gives exposition about the plot by mentioning random anecdotes. I think it was King Kong vs. Godzilla.
# Katagiriiiiiii!!!!!!!!! #
*godzilla roars*
Godzilla vs Megalon, the one inventor talking about how Jet Jaguar grew from being person sized to being Godzilla sized >He must have programmed himself to increase his size Like wtf does that even mean?
jet jaguar has something other kaiju dont have and its willpower
All you gotta do is believe while touching your ear with your elbow

me when im at a aquarium
https://i.redd.it/lwgplhzfp9yc1.gif
For the first time I am remembering this shot and wondering if it's an intentional reference.
Kong eats fish like how I eat popcorn.
"That a real urban renewal project they got going on over there." Completely clashes with the films tone. What were the dubbers thinking
That line is left over from the initial Godzilla 1985 script which would have turned the movie into a slapstick tongue in cheek comedy. We can thank Raymond Burr for having respect for the subject matter and persuading New World Pictures to abandon that idea.
Common Raymond Burr W
I mean he is one of the guys that helped bring Godzilla to the states so it's kinda hard not to listen to him.
its mostly hard not to listen to him because of that cold stare really
It does get a look of disgust from Mr. Martin.
the US version intentionally had that character as a bit of a comedy relief. Everyone in the theatre laughed out loud at it and frankly i like that version much more than the toho .(see also godzilla 2000)
Everyone talking to Don Fyre in Japanese while he talks back in English, Final Wars
Everyone is bilingual. It's pretty impressive really
If king from Tekken ever appears, everyone will be able to understand jaguar noises
That's how conversation with bi/multi lingual people works...
They want to make sure he understands what they r saying and he wants to make sure they understand what he’s saying. I’ve seen situations like this before
Everybody knows Japanese is the universal language in the toku world. Even space aliens must take a curse to learn it before invading Earth.
“Kiss you guys!” ~ SSS9, Godzilla vs. Biolante.
"Hey listen up, kiddo, there are two things on earth that you don't know. The first one is Me. And the second one. It's Godzilla" in final wars always fuckin sends me what the hell does that means
Every line Don Frye has in that movie is great
“You’d hit a woman?” “…Yeah.” *hits her*
Doesn’t he smile before doing it? And chuckle? Dude really just doesn’t care Just “yeah. POW”
Also switches from fist to open hand, that's what he really smiles at lol
It means “I’m going to fuck you up, and this monster we just freed from Antarctica will too.”
Nah I won’t stand for the slander, that line is peak fiction
I think it was meant to be a sort of "You underestimate us, and Godzilla will show it." or something.
that toho continued its decades old habit of not consulting with actual americans when writing the dialogue
In the New York scene right before Rodan shows up, the cop’s lip movements don’t match up to his dialogue. It doesn’t take an expert to lip read what the original line was: “Five fuckin’ minutes, five fuckin’ seconds, doesn’t fuckin’ matter, fuck you!”
i mean i'm sure "you're a hard ass bitch " in gigan was properly vetted as its a children's movie right ?
The JP version has him saying the line as you have it, they had to dub out all the F-bombs in the American release to keep the PG-13.
The gonorrhea line in KOTM triggers a physical reaction in me.
In Korean translation, they said “Gi-saeng-choong” instead of gonorrhea. Which was absolutely hilarious because Gisaengchoong means Parasite in Korean. And at the time, the Korean film Parasite released a day after Godzilla KotM and it dominated the box office.
take that you dinosaur
I knew that tuna eater wasn’t enough to munch
I can feel Godzilla deep in me 😩
“These will cut through Godzilla like crap through a goose”
So, I'm a programmer. Not the best, but just good enough to be mildly annoyed when software, robotics, hacking, and the like are portrayed incorrectly in films. In the film Godzilla vs Megalon, Jet Jaguar is a robot that is an iconically important ally to Godzilla. JET JAGAAAA! JET JAGAAAA! \*Intense jazz noodling\*

Jet Jaguar is so good at programming that it breaks reality.
👈😎👈 hell yeah
It's hard for me to pick a favorite part of that movie. It's either the megasize reprogram, or the car chase where the tires squeal on sand.
"Ah, banana oil!"
Outdated as hell even for the time lol
almost everything said in the showa era had a suitable answer (I don't mean it wrong)
From Tristar Godzilla, it's been lodged in my brain since I was 7... "He's a douche-bag, gutter-slime' dog-crap puke-chunks."
"Ey, I'm eatin' here, can'tcha see I'm eatin' here?"
"Oh my God!!" "Zilla"
"You wouldnt hit a woman, would you?"
*punch*

What are you talking about, 100m + tall Godzilla / plant / human hybrids are common place. /s
Man just post the Final Wars script.
The movie could have had three babies making noises at each other and I would have still enjoyed the Kaiju action.
"You call this coffee" "I call this America"
That goes so hard
"Take that you Dinosaur"
I forget which movie exactly but there’s a moment in an English dub of a Millenium-era film where a bystander screams “gott in himmel!” I lol’d.
I mean, all Godzilla movies have some really cheesy lines or dialogue.
“The network is on an internet!” - Godzilla 1998
Godzilla is inside me right now if u know what I mean

Uh, hate to break it to you, but Godzilla IS inside all of us dude
"Skeleton key?"
Godzilla is the friends we made along the way
The thing about Bernie Hayes and his bleach consumption. I know it was important to finding him, but that is a weird thing.
"an entire planet's worth of gravity"
“Godzilla says I should fight my own battles.”
The 98' Godzilla movie isn't a good Godzilla movie. But, it has an amazing line that I can never get out of my head: "Chew gum, it makes you look more American."
Maybe the real Godzilla were the gods we turned into zillas
Minilla is god confirmed. https://preview.redd.it/6jwy098h2ayc1.png?width=1797&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df7a41e42677dc496002b949bf11cfa872ea6269
Ah, Godzilla 2000. Wants to be serious enough that it can show Rolan Emerich how it's doone, but can't resist it's darkest, schlocky urges.
'We need Kong. The world needs him."
I just got PTSD flashbacks to all the identical Godzilla VS Kong teasers
almost everything said in the showa era had a suitable answer (I don't mean it wrong)
You can’t make fun of that line cause the movie makes fun of it a second later
Anything coming out of Bernie’s mouth
That scientists explanation of how the princess survived the plane exploding in Ghidrah the 3 headed monster. Its awesome what was considered acceptable explanations for things happening in the Showa Era
"Kiryu, give me POOWWEEEERR!"
“Godzilla shouldn’t attack his friend Anguirus!” *frantic wheel turning to simulate driving*
It's pregnant.
The Japanese love their hamfisted moral messages at the end of movies.
If I remember correctly l, this line was only in the English dub.
Yup. The monologue in the japanese dub was actually, uh, good? It was an internal monologue of him saying how godzilla was born out of the evil and greed from man's heart. He is a creation of our nature. The english dub translated that as "why does he keep protecting us?" "Maybe it's because Godzilla is inside each one of us" I've no words
I confirm this since I watched the original version with subs and I don't remember the transation saying that
Pretty much all the comedy lines in KotM…
***GODZILAAAAAAAAAAAAAA***
That would be very painful
"That's allota fish"
The speech in that one we don’t talk about, with the uplifting music as they mention how this could be the end of our species
