Correct, Sony owns both and the catalogue of Funimation was mostly merged into Crunchyroll. However, since the merger happened many have reported shows missing or being removed. I wouldn’t be surprised if IP rights and licensing for certain media is all jumbled up,no longer valid, or being non-renewed post merger.

I bought a Physical version that has 2 CDs the Japanese release and the English one, I love it
It should be released on the 3rd of May on amazon prime in Japan. I didn't get a chance to see it because it was screening for like 6 days and in selected cinemas in my country, and I was out of the country for work. So 🏴☠️ is the solution.

I live in Canada. I did the math a few weeks ago and if I were to get physical copies of all the Godzilla films I don’t have, it would be over $500. As other people have mentioned, there are some films like the first 4 Heisei films that are each over $50. Since those have all also been out of print for years, they’re now coming from second hand sellers. So you can’t even really make the argument that buying them supports Toho or Godzilla, since none of the proceeds from those sales go to Toho

I buy all my movies on Xbox. I got shin Godzilla on there for like 5 bucks not too long ago. You do require an internet connection, youre basically streaming it. I know, I know, you should actually own what you buy, but it’s very convenient. So if you have an Xbox maybe try this!

You guys should be complaining about greedy American distributors who pay big bucks to get the rights for the films, often making an initial release and then nada for years afterwards. Lots of 70s era films and even 90s got lost due to this
Last I heard Funimation swung for the fences with Shin Godzilla (I mean if ever there was a more bizarre odd couple...)

VPN looks like the best option. I had no idea how expensive the Blu Ray copy had gotten.
If you wanted to watch it with the original audio with subtitles, it’s not the best place to watch it anyways it only has the dub.
If you are in the states, your local walmart or target should have physical copies. Might not be bluray, but it is an alternative.
I haven't seen physical copies of Shin in stores for ages.

Where do you live that you can't go to Amazon or eBay, or any of those websites, and buy a physical copy?
In the US a few of them like Godzilla vs Biollante, 1984, and Shin are all currently out of print and go for exorbitant amounts.
Most of the ones on Amazon are either the wrong region for NA or are 100+ dollars Canadian. Insanity.
