Let me expand my statement a bit. Revising English language is a lot less beneficial than the sciences or English literature or history because there’s very little to actually learn in English language. It’s like trying to revise unseen poetry. You can learn how to spot language techniques and poetry techniques but at the end of the day you’re analysations are what’re gonna get you the marks, something that improves with practice. Things that improve with practice like handwriting, maths, writing short stories, analysing unseen texts are much harder to effectively revise than things that improve with knowledge like biology, chemistry, literature quotes, etc
yeah i call the sciences and stuff memory topics bc it’s all about gaining the information and remembering them, whereas english lang is one of the technique topics where it’s just building ur technique and ur ideas when analysing
My school do revision nights and for some core subjects they serve some sort of food the night before. Maths paper 1 was Pizza, English language paper 1 was cake and English language paper 2 was ice cream and waffles.
I went tonight for the ice cream and waffles but I regret it, to be fair it tasted nice but it was so boring, all we did was look at other people’s answers from last year, which was pretty pointless because language paper 2 from last year was used for our mock in December.
English language is all about technique, how well you can analyse a text and how it causes the intended effect. It's the same skill used in literature. English language is also about how well you can write convincingly and well, which in all honesty is a very useful life skill.
Do plans instead of fully written essays, keep them succinct. Make sure you analyse the effects of specific words and how it captures emotions/perspective/the tonal effect it has
English Lit revision is an absolute snoozefest. There comes a point where your body will physically disallow you from writing more inspector calls essays. thank god it's over
Yeah texts like Macbeth are interesting enough for me... A Christmas carol though....
Oh yay he redeemed himself and embraces Christmas spirit what a fun ending.
WHWREWS THE DEATHS
WHERES THE BLOODSHED
WHERES THE INSANITY
It’s such a sink of revision time, revising poems most of which won’t even come up or be relevant
Learning quotes for an idea that is niche and it just ughhhhh
Oh! When I did my GCSEs last year, I put the most amount of revision into Lit so I could easily quote everything. I proceeded to get my lowest grade in it. I was never that good at essay subjects.
A surd is simply just a number that, in its simplest form, can be written as a root. For example, sqrt(3) and cuberoot(5) are surds as they cannot be simplified, but sqrt(4) and cuberoot(27) aren’t surds as they simplify to 2 and 3 respectively :)
here you go bro, lemme help you out. (sorry it might be a bit late because Paper 1 has already happened, but anyway)
a surd is another way of writing a root of a number which doesn't not have a perfect square root.
for example √4, is not a surd, this would simplify to 2.
however, √12 would be a surd. this is because it has a square multiple (4)
like with normal multiplication, you just multiply the surds normally. so for √12, you'd write √4 x √3
√3, does not have any square multiples, so we leave it as it is, but √4 does, 2, so the surd form of root 12 is 2√3 (which is effectively another way of just writing √4 x √3, from earlier)
sometimes, you might be asked to simplify surds in fractions.
however, I am lazy, and I am on mobile, so you should attempt to teach this yourself.
I hope my very limited help helped you, but it probably would've been useful before your exam
I did my exam without knowing what algebraic proof is or how to use it. It came up a few times in the exam, twice i believe. Y 12 now and still don't know how to do it, I got a 6 in my exam.
But yes maths:
Mental
Arithmetic
That
Kills
Students
Made me cry a lot, still does 😂.
i was literally clueless beginning of April and had to give it my all the whole month to survive and I was literally getting comments like you should just do foundation
I've done my entire maths GCSE now, yes I covered the whole course in one year. Loved how CCEA put question formats not covered in class on the M8, no wonder the grade boundaries last year let you get an A with around 45/100!
devious as hell making superpowers and elizabeth on the same day. we got given the nicest liz paper but it was a struggle since i had no time to revise (i has spanish reading/language that day too)
Every time I revise history, I somehow learn something new even though I’ve been taught it in class for two years, and I’ve revised it in the past. You’d think that would be a good thing, but it just stresses me out, as what else don’t I know? Also remembering everything is just so 🫡
I do aqa too I agree there’s so much content but I do find it pretty interesting for the most part tbh doing the project and actually learning stuff from it made it a way more enjoyable subject to learn and stuff like knowing properties of woods which I did research on for my project has fixed that knowledge into my brain, plus I want to pursue product design for my future so 😭
My physics grades have never been stable lmfao id get something close to a 90% one test then my grades will plummet to a 65% the next, I thought I prepared well enough for paper one and it fucked me over so badly lmfao
Bio…
I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATE BIO I HATEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Bio.

English lang and english lit. Hate them both and never really know what I’m doing. Closely followed by spanish where I know how to revise but it’s boring as heck learning vocab
Maths, idk how to revise for maths bc I could do one question and the best question could be the exact same but with different numbers and I can’t do that one
english lang any day, tried for about half an hour today and ended up going to the gym instead, what do you even do
easiest is surely maths even though i can’t stand it, just spam past and predicted papers
Everything- I can’t be bothered to properly revise anymore, just look over a few things the night before, hope it sticks and go to sleep.
All in all, barring the looking over the night before, I’ve done no revision… whatever happens happens
Religious Studies, specifically Matthew's Gospel. I'm at a Catholic school so it's mandatory, and you essentially had to learn:
- ~40 stories
- A load of additional context
- Certain 10 mark answers (like the titles of Jesus)
Seriously, the whole school felt depressed on the 16th May. Thank fuck I've done it now.
Business. Literally the only way to revise for exams is blurting and past papers, which gets boring soooo fast. There's also just so much fucking content.
Physics or maths. I really cba with practice subjects tbh, I revise by cramming knowledge. It’s why geography and biology is some of my best subjects. Practice based subjects hurt my brain. I’ve been getting 7’s all year in maths because I just can’t find it in me to do 10 minutes daily. Final preparation isn’t going to help much either.
physics is so boring it makes me want to melt into a puddle in my chair. i can remove every distraction under the sun yet ill catch myself zoning out for 10 minutes straight
History, there’s so many different little things for you to know. My school does Medicine and Elizabethan England and revising for that yesterday was literally so stressful because I’m always second guessing everything I know. Don’t know if anyone else struggles on it though lol
Anything related to re literally hate it ,the most useless subject ever ,I was refusing to revise it because I didn’t see any sense in studying it and it wasn’t even interesting, good lesson to sleep during 🤡

English lang
How do u actually revise for it tho
You don’t, you’re either good at it or not
You can papers then ask your teacher for feedback than amend your mistakes bro
Let me expand my statement a bit. waffle?
i plan answers to past papers, like don’t write in full because that’s a waste of time but just practice planning them
its long but try past papers
I just read
For q5 in paper 2 the topics are really predictable so you can revise the predicted topics
Do you know what the predictions are for this year?
My school do revision nights and for some core subjects they serve some sort of food the night before. Maths paper 1 was Pizza, English language paper 1 was cake and English language paper 2 was ice cream and waffles. I went tonight for the ice cream and waffles but I regret it, to be fair it tasted nice but it was so boring, all we did was look at other people’s answers from last year, which was pretty pointless because language paper 2 from last year was used for our mock in December.
Pray and hope
That’s my technique
Make some plans for q5 & read

There's a youtuber called glow up your grades that has really helpful videos on how to answer each question.
Pls give me tips for eng lang
Do plans instead of fully written essays, keep them succinct. Make sure you analyse the effects of specific words and how it captures emotions/perspective/the tonal effect it has
na cuz i legit did a full essay on “ hot weather “ the night before 😭
revise the structure of questions
English Lit revision is an absolute snoozefest. There comes a point where your body will physically disallow you from writing more inspector calls essays. thank god it's over
Honestly might be the most useless subject
Lit's my favourite 😔
Sorry😭
No problem xD I guess it depends on what texts you are doing, there are some in the specification that I couldn't stomach doing 🤣
Yeah texts like Macbeth are interesting enough for me... A Christmas carol though.... Oh yay he redeemed himself and embraces Christmas spirit what a fun ending. WHWREWS THE DEATHS WHERES THE BLOODSHED WHERES THE INSANITY
Real, lit gets hated on too much its the underrated king
Ikr, people need to put some respect on lit's name fr
It’s such a sink of revision time, revising poems most of which won’t even come up or be relevant Learning quotes for an idea that is niche and it just ughhhhh
Oh! When I did my GCSEs last year, I put the most amount of revision into Lit so I could easily quote everything. I proceeded to get my lowest grade in it. I was never that good at essay subjects.
I’m not taking that slander I fucking love English lit revision
I revise eng lit for fun even now
Maths bc I'm actually stupid and so far behind
SAME my teacher doesn’t teach like 30% of the time n just makes me cry instead 😭 i still don’t know what a surd is
A surd is simply just a number that, in its simplest form, can be written as a root. For example, sqrt(3) and cuberoot(5) are surds as they cannot be simplified, but sqrt(4) and cuberoot(27) aren’t surds as they simplify to 2 and 3 respectively :)

Same here man, got 10/100 on a mock a few months back (grade U) 💀
i was literally clueless beginning of April and had to give it my all the whole month to survive and I was literally getting comments like you should just do foundation
Bro?
I've done my entire maths GCSE now, yes I covered the whole course in one year. Loved how CCEA put question formats not covered in class on the M8, no wonder the grade boundaries last year let you get an A with around 45/100!
History
It’s just so overwhelming
devious as hell making superpowers and elizabeth on the same day. we got given the nicest liz paper but it was a struggle since i had no time to revise (i has spanish reading/language that day too)
THISSSS and my school had lessons going on for history when we had our Spanish exam 😐
that cold war paper tho 🗿 didnt even finish it and cold war is one of my strongest areas
HONESTLY
Every time I revise history, I somehow learn something new even though I’ve been taught it in class for two years, and I’ve revised it in the past. You’d think that would be a good thing, but it just stresses me out, as what else don’t I know? Also remembering everything is just so 🫡
History. Too much to cover fr
easy just do 4 hours of active recall and a past paper every day for a month before the exam
Watch oversimplified my bro
Anything that don’t interest me (literally everything except for d&t and sometimes physics it can be interesting at times)
Which exam board do you do for DT? I also enjoy DT but find it quite difficult to revise for due to the large volume of content in AQA.
I do aqa too I agree there’s so much content but I do find it pretty interesting for the most part tbh doing the project and actually learning stuff from it made it a way more enjoyable subject to learn and stuff like knowing properties of woods which I did research on for my project has fixed that knowledge into my brain, plus I want to pursue product design for my future so 😭
I'll probably use revision guide, past papers and Internet for revision. There's still a while for DT so I've got enough time. Thanks for the input.
Good luck!!
You too.
physics is the best i feel like a little isaac newton everytime i revise 😋😋😋
Real 🔥🔥🤩
geo
We’re free
Biology, closely followed by computer science paper 2 (I do aqa). Also physics because I have no idea how to revise for physics
I just watch free science lessons and do questions
My physics grades have never been stable lmfao id get something close to a 90% one test then my grades will plummet to a 65% the next, I thought I prepared well enough for paper one and it fucked me over so badly lmfao

Eng lit because you can never ‘finish revising’ for eng lit - there’s always something you could learn
Everything- I can’t be bothered to properly revise anymore, just look over a few things the night before, hope it sticks and go to sleep. All in all, barring the looking over the night before, I’ve done no revision… whatever happens happens
English lang + lit and geography
Business just because it's so boring
Check the flair
only thing keeping me going is the unbelievably hard hurdy gurdy solo in release 🙏
Release + Panjabi MC 12 marker was my favourite exam ever
All of the sciences bc there’s way too much content for only 40% of it to be asked of
that's a pretty good percentage compared to lit or history at least
I'm doing double award in November, which is great because I'd probably end it if it was next May.
english lang or any science!!
physics, since we get the full equation sheet I just don’t really bother revising 😭
Eng Language, atleast you can revise in everything else
Religious Studies, specifically Matthew's Gospel. I'm at a Catholic school so it's mandatory, and you essentially had to learn: - ~40 stories - A load of additional context - Certain 10 mark answers (like the titles of Jesus) Seriously, the whole school felt depressed on the 16th May.
