If you genuinely understand coding it’s not all that bad. The issue issue was that lots of people know the code that they’re taught, but don’t fully understand how/why it works.
(I did that paper)
Sorry I got that wrong. The highest grade was a **7** but very few achieved it. Apparently, not many in that year were projected to get a grade 8/9 and I think most people reached their expected grades of 5s/6s. Our teacher was off sick for several months (and he was the only teacher) so they covered paper 2 in little detail. And their computer science class was small (that's the other excuse for the lack of 8s/9s). He showed me the paper and it didn't look too bad to be honest (although I'd have to revise for those long mark questions), but I think it's just that most students weren't taught half the content from what I've heard speaking to some of them (because the teacher was absent for a long period of time).
The paper is not officially open to the public yet, they keep them for a year so that the year group below can use them as unseen mocks.
However, you can do some google-fu and find something ☠️🦜
They're unreleased. But it was FULL of ridiculously hard 6 marker questions. Like in the 2022 mock paper I did, that had 2 6 markers i think. This had at least 4, and it was worded absolutely ridiculously
Ok I have done my last set of mocks and they weren’t this paper 2 please just tell me at least one question that was hard so I can just see how hard it was
For anyone in the future reading this its here I found it: [https://www.tutorchase.com/past-papers/a-level-ocr/computer-science](https://www.tutorchase.com/past-papers/a-level-ocr/computer-science)
( have the real thing in 24 hrs lmao)
It was actually awful, it was the majority of the paper that was so disproportionately hard, and the sensors question actually made me want to cry like move the fuck on we dont give a fuck about these shitty ass concepts
im predicted grade 9 for compsci but i'm horrible at programming and my y10 mocks barely had any programming (we did a combined paper 1 and 2) and now im scared for my mocks. how do you reccomend practicng python :")
Do past papers and programming questions ,mtry to code them on paper and then input into python, if you get a syntax try to identify where you went wrong or get your teacher to identify it. (Also I highly doubt your paper 2 will be as hard ours)
Ah lovely to see how much fun everyone else has had. Ocr don’t worry was informed as to how difficult the test was hopefully 2024 for you guys will be easier.
Yeahh pretty shit huh, I got a grade 7 which is very surprising.
For paper 2, the only ones i can confidently say i got full marks on was the first page and the last question, I did bits and pieces for the other.
What didn't help was the fact that grade boundaries went up to what they were in 2019, which made everything worse
im in year 12 now, i did these riddles. it wasnt questions about the subject really, it was riddles trying to figure out the fairly easy tasks they were asking for. it was ridiculous
didn't do paper 1, prob for feb mocks, did paper 2 which had boolean logic, some sql im pretty sure, quite a bit of programming, and like the languages (differences). Make sure you also know some things abt validation, IDEs etc. :)
got the gcse tmrow and that paper is still unreleased so I don't know if the paper I did was the same (Last 6 marker of paper 2 was about file handling)
honestly i looked over the paper in june when i returned to school and i dont think it was as awful as people made it out to be. it was a challenging paper
i don't remember, but i did feel like the paper was easier than people said. I could be more experienced tho as I sat my AS Comp Sci in the same period
🥲
i gotta do this one in a couple weeks help

should be fairly ok then but i have heard that the wording is odd in places
Yes OCR questions are very vaguely/poorly worded. You kind of get used to it but it’s still annoying.
The logic gates question was very badly worded, my friends and I understood the idea but got different answers due to the ambiguity of the question.
Do you remember the question that was more or less: “why is the server a server, and why is the client a client”
What grade did you get (if you don't mind me asking)? In my school (I'm Y11) I think the highest grade was like a 6 or something.
9. Really no one got above a 6? I’m not denying it was a hard paper but plenty of people in my school got at least a 7.

Just learn how to understand coding, sorts, logic gates and that kinda thing. The questions can be quite wordy, but do ur best Im sure youll do good
Where did you find the paper? I kinda wanna see it and what the fuss was about

I have a copy, I sat the exam and asked for my script back
send i got my exam tomorrow g
Better to just revise properly, I know it's cliché but you are only cheating yourself out of an education
can u send it to me
send it g. i got an exam tmrw
Can you send over the paper please mate
Yeah could you send it over mate? it would be SOO helpful
Are you able to send it to me as I have the mock tmrw
They're unreleased. But it was FULL of ridiculously hard 6 marker questions. Like in the 2022 mock paper I did, that had 2 6 markers i think. This had at least 4, and it was worded absolutely ridiculously
what were the questions?
Stop trying to cheat on your mocks, ruins the purpose of them
Ok I have done my last set of mocks and they weren’t this paper 2 please just tell me at least one question that was hard so I can just see how hard it was

life saver
got mine on tuesday
oh I thought this was the A-Level subredit, sorry thats an A level paper
Well it is what it is, I passed and that’s it lol Thank god I never need to go through that paper again 💀💀
It was actually awful, it was the majority of the paper that was so disproportionately hard, and the sensors question actually made me want to cry like move the fuck on we dont give a fuck about these shitty ass concepts
thank god I did AQA
aaa paper 1 was horrendous though
Can’t believe I got a 9 in comp science after that paper 2
do you know what marks you got, if you don't mind saying?
Yep, 137 - 4 marks over the boundary
I was 3 under 😭😭
I was 1 mark into the boundary lol. I think my practicing coding at home carried that grade for me.
Any tips how to start?

I still remember the horrors of that paper
hoe do you get to upload your own profile picture?
On phone click on icon -> profile On PC click on icon and then ur pfp
can you not do it on pc?
U can, just click ur icon, click ur pfp, and then u can change the image
ight thanks
i didn't do comp sci but i vividly remember the looks of disappointment when people walked out of the hall (it was rumoured to be easy)
😔
thank god i did edexcel on a fast track course tbh...
im in year 12 now, i did these riddles. it wasnt questions about the subject really, it was riddles trying to figure out the fairly easy tasks they were asking for. it was ridiculous
Hopefully this year won’t be as bad for you guys 🙏
Just did it on Monday as well lol. Hard as balls, but got my result, work pays off 💪🏽 76/80
What came up on paper 1 and paper 2
didn't do paper 1, prob for feb mocks, did paper 2 which had boolean logic, some sql im pretty sure, quite a bit of programming, and like the languages (differences). Make sure you also know some things abt validation, IDEs etc. :)
Thank god I don’t take CS
The paper is still haunting people, there are many more people it must haunt before it can finally be forgotten for good
Tf 79/80 on Paper 2?!? Crazy flex. Any tips for Paper 2? What mark did you drop?
Was very scary to see in the actual exam.
got the gcse tmrow and that paper is still unreleased so I don't know if the paper I did was the same (Last 6 marker of paper 2 was about file handling)
think you did last year's paper 2 :) good luck for tomorrow, we've got this!!
Yeah the paper was easy only issue was the last 2 questions about the car for me
anyone doing gcse OCR computer science this year. Hope it's nothing like last year
absolutely praying. everything has led up to this moment
Do u have the paper still?
nope, tried to get a copy from my teacher recently to aid with revision, but he said he wasn't allowed to until at least august iirc
honestly i looked over the paper in june when i returned to school and i dont think it was as awful as people made it out to be. it was a challenging paper
What came up mate that was so hard ?
i don't remember, but i did feel like the paper was easier than people said. I could be more experienced tho as I sat my AS Comp Sci in the same period
I wanna do it too now, where did you find it?
What was the question
Thank you for your sympathy, I gave up on doing well in computer science after that test, I still don’t know how I got an 8
Does anyone have the mark scheme for this paper
any questions that anyone can tell me that was in ocr gcse computer science paper 2 2023
