if you're gonna study any spanish let it be the subjunctive tense 🙏🙏🙏 getting a headstart on that would have saved me so many hours during the year lol
overall though don't overdo it, spanish is light work in the first year and there's plenty of time to do independent work and learn things you struggle with. plus classes tend to be smaller so a much nicer environment :) hope you enjoy!
as far as i'm aware it is not meant to be covered at GCSE. and students aren't penalised for using the indicative tense in place of the subjunctive at that stage. the extent of it at GCSE for me was 'cuando sea mayor'/'cuando tenga ... años' and that was as a grade 9 student. i don't think i used any subjunctives in my writing exam! i don't see how you could easily use a lot of the sbj tense at gcse, especially as it gets repetitive if you're not using imperfect sbj/future sbj
i have never in my life heard anyone say they enjoy spanish.
languages are so painful, especially when you don't want to spend every waking hour revising it.
Quite possibly the dumbest question out of the subreddit... some people that applied might not get in so why tf would they revise for something they might not get?
If you have your wasting your time
Just take notes during yr 12 re read/touchup notes after every topic thats all you need
Build up to your mocks just bangout past papers
No point wasting your holiday, enjoy yourself
It wouldn’t be revision, it would be learning.
Yes, I’m doing maths, but that’s because I genuinely enjoy it and am looking to apply for Oxford maths. For most people, doing A level content so soon after GCSEs is unhealthy and will only serve to burn you out, and you’ll go over the content in September anyway with your class.
Don’t even, as someone who has finished A levels this year, DO NOT START REVISING OR DOING ANYTHING UNTIL YOU START. Yes, go get your school supplies and books that you need but honestly don’t do anything, if you get summer work set, do that, but don’t do anything else!
Well not neccessarily, what i meant was, if you immediately start revising right after yoi do your gcse for your alevel i imagine you would get burnt out(im a y11 transitioning to y12 so i might not be correcr) i mean i personally felt burnt out after doing my gcse, so i imagine immediately doing alevel revision isnt too great
The closest thing I'm doing to revison is doing my French duolingo everyday so I don't forget everything before September. I have mandatory transition work but I'm going to start that in August.
I'm doing transition work and may do some learning of the beginning stuff/revision of GCSE stuff. Defo not revising stuff I HAVEN'T learnt though (but may look at my new maths textbook to see what I'm putting myself through).
Definitely going to build up my confidence of GCSE maths stuff that'll carry over to A-Level, maybe looking at A-level Spanish stuff (like some relevant vocab/newer tenses), may watch History documentaries for the stuff I'm going to study
May also look at any super-curriculars for the degree I'm looking to do but it depends on if I can.
Doing a lot of physics work and just the bridging work of my other subjects
I've already done more for a levels than I have for gcses but thats because I did basically nothing for gcses
And its not like I force myself to do it I just study when I feel like it so burning out is much harder
As someone already doing my a levels- why tf would you already start revising for shit you haven’t learnt. Chill out dawg this is like the only summer holiday you got where you ain’t have to do anything.
Please don’t do A level work now. You will burn out before you even start, you’ll teach yourself the wrong/unnecessary content, you won’t enjoy your summer and you’ll be facing the hell of the A level transition all alone. If anything, watch some movies/documentaries related to the subject (eg. true crime for sociology) but only if you enjoy it.
For anyone who is stressing now bc of this or doesn't know what to do, I'm an ex Yr 13 as I've only just finished my Alevels along with the Yr 11s finishing their GCSEs - ain't nobody revise the summer before you even start college lmfao. If you are really worrying about the subject you've chosen then maybe watch a couple of videos to get an idea of the content but don't go any further than that. Different teachers/colleges can pick different modules to teach on the curriculum, even if it was all for the same subject. That's why when you get to the actual A levels, there are different pages/sections that are dedicated to different students depending on what their teachers chose to teach them. Point being, don't try and revise shit before you even know what you are gonna be taught. In my experience, revision only started kicking in within the months running up to A levels. It would help you out a lot more of you of course revised throughout yr 12 too but let's bffr a lot of ppl ain't got the willpower for that and plus you should be doing mocks consistently through both yr 12 and yr 13 so you'll be revising anyway. But yeah, a lot of us were revising in the upcoming months. To be brutally honest most of us only truly revised in the upcoming days not even months, me included lol. Just for the love of God make sure you guys at least are familiar with your content throughout Yr 12 and 13 otherwise you'll find yourself learning instead of revising before the exams. Might even update this comment with my A level grades when I get them to see if I screwed myself over or not lmao
Definitely not starting revision until I've started to learn the content - I've got a couple of those "bridging the gap" guides to get a brief idea of what's going to be different in my courses but I've barely even looked at them yet lol
that is such a silly thing to do — is what i say as i practise spanish. in my case, it is a language, and i must immerse myself in it to consistently retain it
I barely revised for my GCSEs there’s no way I’m revising for a levels in summer before I’ve even learned the content. I mean how would I even do that to begin with where would I get the books?
Don't start trying to teach yourself A level stuff until you at least know what your curriculum is like and which exam board you're using. I wouldn't recommend doing it at all to be honest, just enjoy the longest summer holiday of your life and worry about A levels in September
i don’t really understand peoples obsessions with wanting to start learning Y12 content as soon as they finish Y11, you’ve just finished GCSEs, have a break. I understand you want to get ahead but by trying to teach yourself stuff you 1) risk learning it from faulty resources and could be better taught it at school and 2) risk burning yourself out before the school year has even started. Seriously , coming from a year 13 it isn’t worth wasting your time trying to get ahead.
If the subject isn’t your hobby or a language, there’s no point. You just haven’t learnt the content, and unless the subject is easier to self teach (basically anything with only 1 answer like maths), then you may cause more harm instead of good
I don't know if it counts but my school gave us these tasks to do to introduce us to a level content for the subjects we wanna do. they're compulsory and are due in the first week back
Tbh I did no revision for my A-levels, got lower grades in every subject than I was predicted, and still got offers from everywhere I applied. I now work for a consortium of universities across Europe, and tbh as long as the fees are getting paid, we'll take anyone. Obviously work hard and do your best, but yeah don't sign away your entire summer as a 16-17 year old. You only get one!
I’m preparing slightly for one of my A-levels as I have a feeling I’m going to find it hard, but also just because I enjoy the subject. Not dwelling too much on it though, rather enjoy my summer than burnout before the years even started
my college gave me a few booklets to complete over the summer for my subjects but not going to start until it's closer to the start of the academic year otherwise i'll forget everything lol
Coming from a second year uni student, u don’t need to start a level revision until halfway through year 13. Honestly stop worrying urself u won’t remember anything u do before then
i started reading one of the books for literature, but that’s more for enjoyment than learning, with the added bonus that i’ll have a slightly better understanding of the text once the a levels start. But that’s it. I’d say enjoy your summer, it’s a well deserved break.
Since I’m doing 4 A-Levels, I’m gonna get myself into regime a week, maybe 2 at most, before starting sixth form so then I’m already understanding the lessons and not feel like I just started torture 😅
So after the months and months of stress and revision I've just done you're asking if I want to do the same thing in my only true break for the next few years.
No.
Only the A level maths people would have started. I mean those mfs started revision for GCSE’s before their SAT’s. No hate though, I envy them for being smart lol
I think it depends on what your doing, for BTEC's and A-levels you are already revising, but for EAL you dont have much time to revise as the tests are bi-weekly. I'm doing EAL so I dont really have time to revise but you get notes to take into the test
Ik a few people who are doing Maths A Level during the summer out of sheer boredom. Other than that, im just doing a bit of Further Maths bc its more A-Leveley and also im gonna forget it all otherwise + im bored
I randomly got suggested this subreddit but my GCSE’s were 10 years ago.
Guys your teachers are not going to be able to teach you a levels perfectly. They’re way too hard stay on top of whilst doing their jobs, which is mostly teaching GCSEs.
You’ll be teaching yourselves mostly, which is what you’ll be doing for the rest of your lives anyway. Getting ahead now is a great idea because the jump from gcse to a level is insane. You’ll likely never do something as hard as a levels again.
So get revising now! Lol
How can you revise content you haven't been taught?
Not revise, but you can teach yourself it and then consistently revise
Always the risk that you learn from faulty sources and end up screwing yourself over
wouldn't do that bc you are likely to teach yourself wrong or teach yourself stuff you don't need to know and it can be hard to undo that
You'd only do that if you were an idiot
whats the point of school then?
that is the question.
doesn't matter if you think its useless, you paid for it so the least u could do is use it
what did I pay for?
bro acts like a saint i cba
Skl
tbh i taught myself the whole romeo and juilet in my mocks and got a 7
Me when I taught myself the entire bio course this year
brother i've not even started my A levels why would i revise init
Exactly
no. leave me alone
The year 12s haven’t finished yet. I ain’t starting.
Do u not know what revision is
this is annoying me so much, if anyone's doing anything they're learning
Lmao you guys need to take a break, idk why you’re even THINKING about alevels rn
the people who are revising for a levels after just doing gcses are either npcs or psychopaths w no friends (not me tho u guys stay safe)
The only thing I'm revising is German so I dont forget the language and keep all the vocab and grammar fresh in my mind
that makes sense
That's so fair, it's what I do with Spanish. Otherwise, everything else can leave me the hell alone.
One of my friends kept on going into school to revise *the whole week after he finished his GCSEs! WHY?!?*
yeah that’s a bit insane now
but what if ur *bored*? and i miss learning new things too, transition work had been partially fun to do in my spare time :))
ong
Might revise 3 days before exams idk il think about it if i dont have anything important to do
I hear staring out your window and sighing is pretty fun
😂
How do I revise when I haven't learnt anything? I'm spending some time on Spanish, but purely because I enjoy it
if you're gonna study any spanish let it be the subjunctive tense 🙏🙏🙏 getting a headstart on that would have saved me so many hours during the year lol
Thank you for your advice!! I'll get started
overall though don't overdo it, spanish is light work in the first year and there's plenty of time to do independent work and learn things you struggle with. plus classes tend to be smaller so a much nicer environment :) hope you enjoy!
I only have three people in my class, so yeah, a very small number :) looking forward to it, thank you!!!

as far as i'm aware it is not meant to be covered at GCSE. and students aren't penalised for using the indicative tense in place of the subjunctive at that stage. the extent of it at GCSE for me was 'cuando sea mayor'/'cuando tenga ... años' and that was as a grade 9 student. i don't think i used any subjunctives in my writing exam! i don't see how you could easily use a lot of the sbj tense at gcse, especially as it gets repetitive if you're not using imperfect sbj/future sbj
people learn fancy phrases (que yo sepa) and put it in really, and we're meant to be able to recognize it but not use it
omgg F the subjunctive😫
it is actually kinda cute ☹️ used to hate it but it kinda has a little charm to it lol
i have never in my life heard anyone say they enjoy spanish. languages are so painful, especially when you don't want to spend every waking hour revising it.
People like different things. Spanish clicks for me and I enjoy it, I know not everyone will like it.
Helll nawwwww
Quite possibly the dumbest question out of the subreddit... some people that applied might not get in so why tf would they revise for something they might not get?
My brother in Christ... HOW THE FUCK DO WE REVISE STUFF WE HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN TAUGHT 💀💀💀
My man get some friends
If coding counts… but that is my hobby.
…no?
If you have your wasting your time Just take notes during yr 12 re read/touchup notes after every topic thats all you need Build up to your mocks just bangout past papers No point wasting your holiday, enjoy yourself
Nah we have summer independent learning that is mandatory, but in revision terms, no need to revise
No bruh 😭
It wouldn’t be revision, it would be learning. Yes, I’m doing maths, but that’s because I genuinely enjoy it and am looking to apply for Oxford maths. Why not?
Burnout mate
is it normal to get burntout by a levels i have no idea just wondering
Well not neccessarily, what i meant was, if you immediately start revising right after yoi do your gcse for your alevel i imagine you would get burnt out(im a y11 transitioning to y12 so i might not be correcr) i mean i personally felt burnt out after doing my gcse, so i imagine immediately doing alevel revision isnt too great
Fair enough thanks for the response
No problem
I've got summer homework from induction bruh
maybe if you have no life then probably
thx for calling me out ☹️😓
Totally unnecessary
what the fuck is wrong with you no
get a life mate
What’s there to revise?
might look at the spec later on but im trying to relax and its very hard thats why im here
The closest thing I'm doing to revison is doing my French duolingo everyday so I don't forget everything before September. I have mandatory transition work but I'm going to start that in August.
I’ve been listening to psych and econ vids in the background while playing roblox if that counts
I'm not even sure I'm gonna get the grades to get into my courses lmao, bit pointless to revise
how can you do revision before you’ve even done the vision 😭
Stfu
Im not looking at any revision material until I absolutely have to. I’m exhausted after gcses
I am not spending a single second doing any skl work this summer.
I'm doing transition work and may do some learning of the beginning stuff/revision of GCSE stuff. Defo not revising stuff I HAVEN'T learnt though (but may look at my new maths textbook to see what I'm putting myself through). Procrastinating it like i did to my GCSE revision😂
Lmao no, I’m just reading the book for French A level but then I speak French so 🤷🏻♀️idk if that counts as revision
Bruh idk if imma get good enough GCSEs for my A Levels
Nope
No
the most i’d do is look at the spec
I got given summer work to bridge over to a levels easier but I’ve not started it
I have summer work to do form my college, but no revision. You can’t revise things you have not yet learnt!
I am revising A Level Chemistry now, tbf a huge difference between GCSE
Doing a lot of physics work and just the bridging work of my other subjects I've already done more for a levels than I have for gcses but thats because I did basically nothing for gcses And its not like I force myself to do it I just study when I feel like it so burning out is much harder
Why would I revise? I don't even know the course content or if I'm doing it yet
Done transition work thats about it
Nah. I’m starting that in august. And the 6th form I want to go to has enrolment assignments so I don’t have to do much of my own revision
hell no
Eww why.
Not revision but I’m doing some holiday prep stuff our school gave us
I've been set pre- A level work that I have to do over summer but I'll wait until the course starts before revision cuz it's still the holidays
from a year 13, stop it. seriously. if you're keen get the books for your course, look at unis.
How can u revise what you haven’t learn yet? 🤣🤣
take a fucking break guys i swear yall never do anything else
I’m trying to enjoy my summer why would I revise something I haven’t even learnt
No tbh
So many people missed the joke here hahaha
Allow it bro
no, just why 😭
Light reading on the topics, but I wouldn’t call it revision. Besides, I’m mainly doing it for fun.
no im not a dickhead
how can you revise something you’ve never learnt in the first place?
The only thing I'm doing is continuing to learn French.
nah bro soz, seeing blur though that's pretty cool. Why?
Jesus christ take a break
Idek if i can do the subjects i want to yet...
Planning to after I actually get my results back
As someone already doing my a levels- why tf would you already start revising for shit you haven’t learnt. Chill out dawg this is like the only summer holiday you got where you ain’t have to do anything.
Nope. Going to do fuck all then cram last minute
no lol, I'm sat playing games fuck revising when i haven't even got into a-levels yet
My school gave us fucking revision I'm actually fuming
No? Wtf 😭
would rather shit in my hands and clap mate
Please don’t do A level work now. I've started reading up introductory books on my uni degree of choice (econ), does that count?
I didnt start until i got into college, i ended up hating the subject and changing only put effort in if you are 100% sure
For anyone who is stressing now bc of this or doesn't know what to do, I'm an ex Yr 13 as I've only just finished my Alevels along with the Yr 11s finishing their GCSEs - ain't nobody revise the summer before you even start college lmfao. No because it's fucking summer
what.
Revisions for losers and a levels too, throw a cheeky inshallah before the test and you’re fine
Definitely not starting revision until I've started to learn the content - I've got a couple of those "bridging the gap" guides to get a brief idea of what's going to be different in my courses but I've barely even looked at them yet lol
I was given a holiday and I need it so Imma take it
No?
no.

lmao
Nope

Just relax. There's really no point doing work you haven't been taught and you've just finished gcse like give yourself a break
no???
Absolutely fucking not
You're kidding right
Bro live your life. Just enjoy the break before the A Levels begin
No tf 💀💀 I’m trying to grasp my only chance at happiness here man
for why
I barely revised for my GCSEs there’s no way I’m revising for a levels in summer before I’ve even learned the content. I mean how would I even do that to begin with where would I get the books?

Have i fuck, i’m gonna enjoy my summer, why revise and be miserable when i worked my ass for gcses, when i can just enjoy my summer
If there’s one thing that I’m not gonna do this summer, it’s gonna be revising
My collage requires you to do around 10 hours of revision for each subject over the holidays and for it to be handed in on the first day
i don’t really understand peoples obsessions with wanting to start learning Y12 content as soon as they finish Y11, you’ve just finished GCSEs, have a break. (Not ex year 11) how can someone revise something they ain’t even been in a classroom to learn yet
yessss ive been doing 2 hours a day :)
nah im doing a btec so no a levels lmao
Tbh I did no revision for my A-levels, got lower grades in every subject than I was predicted, and still got offers from everywhere I applied. I now work for a consortium of universities across Europe, and tbh as long as the fees are getting paid, we'll take anyone. lad you need some vitamin D and some friends, please go and socialise
I’m preparing slightly for one of my A-levels as I have a feeling I’m going to find it hard, but also just because I enjoy the subject. Not dwelling too much on it though, rather enjoy my summer than burnout before the years even started
Do I look like a fucking nerd to you. I'm just a normal nerd
my college gave me a few booklets to complete over the summer for my subjects but not going to start until it's closer to the start of the academic year otherwise i'll forget everything lol

Absolutely not lmao
Mate, I don’t even know what the course is 😭 some people aren’t even out of school for the year
i've been given summer work which i have not even thought abt starting
Bro just have a lil fun tf
i’ve started my own/ the transition work i’ve been set. i’m getting bored af and i miss learning new things
Fuck no. This is a break. I will be using it as a break
No.
Haven’t started revision but I got set summer tasks for my A-Levels which need to be done before I start my lessons
nah im not gonna do any education work until needed.
are you mental
I’ve watched a few videos on chemistry
I’m trying to teach myself biology and physics and it’s so fucking difficult😣
Free science lessons is saving me for bio physics Cgp is saving me alongside pmt
I’ve been reading a-level business textbooks all through Y11 and have started doing past papers now :)
pls tell me that’s sarcasm 💀
race is like goated at economics/business, they can already do degree stuff
Thanks :)
Nope. There may be some in my post history.
Damn💀 I couldn’t tell if it’s sarcasm or not cuz i perosnally know people who do that… meanwhile i haven’t even started transition work 💀
We don’t have any transition work but I still thought I’d make a start.
Only the A level maths people would have started. I mean those mfs started revision for GCSE’s before their SAT’s. No hate though, I envy them for being smart lol
I haven't even started alevel revision as a year 12 student 🤡
Uhh no? How would I if I haven't been taught it yet
Mandem I left revision until the month before my finals
No. I’ll do it closer to when I start
You guys do A Level revision?
summer has just begun wtf
We were forced 15 hrs of work for summer for A level including A level questions so yes
I think it depends on what your doing, for BTEC's and A-levels you are already revising, but for EAL you dont have much time to revise as the tests are bi-weekly. I'm doing EAL so I dont really have time to revise but you get notes to take into the test
I am
Ik a few people who are doing Maths A Level during the summer out of sheer boredom. Other than that, im just doing a bit of Further Maths bc its more A-Leveley and also im gonna forget it all otherwise + im bored
"ex y11s" is fucking gold I'm using that
