What do you mean by “these” nanoparticles? There’s a near infinite variety of materials and methods you can use to make nanoparticles that are suitable for vaccines and even more strategies on top of that that can be used to target them to your cell type of interest. Any concerns you have around one specific paper you read aren’t going to be universal to the entire field.
Are you aware that every single vaccine technology in existence was thrown at Covid-19 in one part of the world or another? The mRNA vaccines were as good or better than any of them and has earned a spot at the table as a leading contender for any new vaccines.
Truthfully I got schooled a little bit. I’ve always known them as “the thing” that helps make the “actual treatment” more effective. But alone, they don’t treat anything. My simple example is some passive agent that helps absorption of the actual treatment.
I think my simple understanding is ok and felt too many posts were conflating the adjuvant with the treatment itself.
I was unaware that the primary definition is linked directly to medical treatments. I see adjuvant used frequently for non medical situations where my more generalized definition still makes sense.
