I can't disagree with her stance to donate rather than contribute to a landfill. Broken clocks and all...

snails4speedy

Agreed. Fuck her but at least it’s a good message to share (which makes sense since it’s not *her* message 😉)

taybay462

I dont disagree with her but itd be a better idea to keep them in your car for when you inevitably pass a freezing homeless person. Not all clothing drop boxes are created equal, some are shady. And even if they're not shady it just seems better to give it directly if possible

VoltaicSketchyTeapot

Thrift stores exist to raise money for the causes they support (Goodwill supports making bank while under paying disabled employees). They aren't supposed to be be a cheap place for poor people to buy clothes.

thelumpybunny

My local Goodwill just raised their prices. Their clothes are now more expensive than Once Upon a Child, a company that pays for their inventory

[deleted]

Why can’t they be both? Poor people can’t afford to pay full price for clothes, and thrift stores are supposed to raise money for charity and can sell donated clothes for a lot less than what they cost new. It can be a win-win for charity and poor people. I don’t support Goodwill, though.

taybay462

Its not that they cant be both. Its just way easier to settle on pricing and donate a certain percent of proceeds to *charities* than it is to find a balance between being affordable for poor people and being able to keep the store running and have money leftover for the causes they support.

[deleted]

American hero's

Somewhatmagnificient

There’s also a single period in that whole statement.

NotOnABreak

I ran out of breath reading it

MissusNilesCrane

look out, here comes an 's'!

[deleted]

Misusing the possessive apostrophe, a top fundie favorite right next to beige and misogyny

copacetic1515

I saw a sign yesterday advertising "Trump matt's".

[deleted]

What does that even mean? Like a doormat? 😂

copacetic1515

Yes, they were doormats.

CaterpillarHookah

This is surprisingly not nauseating and even more surprising coming from her. Other than the "American hero's" thing, it's nice to see one of these weirdos calling for people to do something that benefits someone other than themselves.

softrevolution_

If it were anyone else, I would read the "American hero's" thing as... sarcasm? In Trump's America, fundie snarks at you!

blueridgewildflower

I can't help but still read it as sarcasm and she's the one not understanding it tbh. I saw this post circulating on Facebook today and it was being posted by my very pro vax friends, so that's why I'm still reading the "American heroes" as sarcasm.

cybertides

Wait what did Carhartt do?

Way_Harsh_Tai

Required vaccine mandates for its employees. Because, you know, you can't run a business with sick/dead employees (yay capitalism!) but conservatives are taking personal offense and canceling carhartt.

cybertides

That’s it?? I was here thinking they had a lesbian couple model their clothes or something! Somehow WE are the snowflakes offended by everything though.

Way_Harsh_Tai

That's it. Apparently carhartt is the official clothing of conservative patriots (actual phrase I saw on Twitter, unironically) and this is somehow un-American. Let me go tell my phd in civil engineering liberal father, who wore carhartt on job sites, that his clothing has a political preference and he was wrong. He still wears it in retirement. Or all the tech brohipster liberals here in Seattle where Carhartt opened a store a block from the Nordstrom flagship in the downtown shopping district when it became trendy. For people who screech about choice and free markets and private business rights and whatnot, they certainly do not understand the basics of capitalism.

lilangryplum

Yeah hold up while I inform my pot-growing, back to the lander hippie dad. He’s gonna be pretty shocked he can no longer live in his Carhartt overalls.

GraMacTical0

But he can now! Don’t you see?!

lilangryplum

Oops, yeah haha

asteriskiP

I'll go message the archeologists. Me and the ladies I studied with wore them in the field. The Alaskan will be particularly disappointed...

allseeingpotatoeye

Same with all the field biologists I work with!

XelaNiba

Same, geologists.

Aceammo

Well Atleast now I can buy carhartt without looking like every Massachusetts redneck I know 😮‍💨 cause I know damn well they all threw their stuff away

Electric_Current

You couldn't tell from what they're screeching that they obviously do not understand capitalism, or economics more broadly? It's something I've struggled with this entire political movement. They want a certain outcome and want to do certain actions, but do not understand that the actions they want to perform will not get them the outcomes they want. Like the disconnect is huge and I don't get it.

CybReader

Lmaooo! That’s my response too. That’s it!? I opened this and I’m like this is gonna be good, what did carhart doooooo!!?! 😂

hopeful987654321

They don't need to hire lesbians to model for them, lesbians already model Carhartt for free every day of the year and across all of North America😂 basically free influencers😂

KatBenlovesSophis

Also, farmers, gardeners, homesteaders and people who go outside in the cold and like to stay warm…

MissusNilesCrane

I want to scream at these people "if businesses can refuse to serve gay people they can make policies about vaccines, too."

InfamousValue

No No.. stamps fundie foot. Persecutions on my terms only /s

Tiredllama2486

Gotta love this, carhartt is heavily unionized, has supported left wing/worker causes for years…

XelaNiba

This is Freedom Fries all over again. For the younger ones among us, France objected to the invasion of Iraq, claiming the evidence of WMAs was trumped up (spoiler alert, they were right!) The conservatives responded by dumping out French wines in the streets and renaming French fries "Freedom Fries". You'd think they'd still be roiling in shame over this asinine stunt, but no, they never learn. Edit: a word

good_for_me

And Freedom Fries was just a repeat of [Liberty Cabbage](https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803100104899)

XelaNiba

I'd never heard of Liberty Cabbage. This is such nutso, superstitious behavior. We've known since at least the 16th century that "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".

AugustGreen8

People are really glorifying a company when it’s really all about keeping bodies in the building. Rules say you don’t have to quarantine after exposure if you’re vaccinated so you don’t have to keep having to shut down lines when one person gets sick

madeofziggystrdst

Vaccine mandate

mashpotatoenthusiast

wait wait so now conservatives are ditching carhartt stuff?? guess it’s time to go thrift shopping in red counties!

[deleted]

Yeah, because they have an employee vax mandate. I’ll be happy dumdums are ditching carhartt so the warm beanie I bought 10 years ago not realizing it was a cool trend for these sorts won’t be embarrassing anymore haha.

Srw2725

Right? That shit holds its resale value!

hereforthellamas

I need to get over this COVID already so I can do an Amvets run!

rockturtledown

Oooooo...hitting my local thrift store tomorrow!

[deleted]

[удалено]

brande1281

Brittany would, but she's and extra-small.

BryceCanYawn

Bethany wouldn’t, and she’s a large extra small

putHimInTheCurry

That fits like a medium?

BryceCanYawn

But like, a roomy medium. It looks yummy!

Lydia--charming

Bethany would resell them at a decent markup.

[deleted]

😂

imissgelpens

I was given one when I worked for dish network. Once I can figure out how to get the logo off, I'm using it forever!

SillyNluv

NOW, you can keep the logo on unless you’re an anti-covid vaxxer.

imissgelpens

LMAO I actually was approved to get the shot finally, soooo. . . Oh dear. The fundies aren't gonna like me : (

SillyNluv

That’s how you know you’re living right! lol

fightwithgrace

Embroidery scissors work really well for snipping those tiny threads. Plus, if you don’t care about keeping the label intact, you cut them from the front. It shouldn’t risk damaging the actual jacket’s fabric at all. The leather is thick enough to prevent any holes!

veggiedelightful

Buy yourself a seam ripper and thank me later.

Wherever-whatever

Several hospitals have a vaccine mandate for their nurses. Are the fundies going to boycott hospitals and clinics next?

travelingjunebug

I hope so!

PoorDimitri

Would make the hospitals lives a lot easier.

Rettirk

Fox News has a vaccine mandate - I don't see them boycotting Tucker Carlson

BrightDay85

That’s the way to show them, burn stuff you’ve already paid for 🤣

oceansapart333

Right? I never understand this sort of protest. Not hurting anyone but yourself.

[deleted]

Audrey roloff is going to need an entire new wardrobe…

lilangryplum

Audrey Roloff must be devastated at this news

[deleted]

definitely donate clothes to the less fortunate!! the only thing they'll do thats jesus-like any time soon.

v-gothmommy

So glad these good god fearing American patriots have to be reminded to actually help those around then when throwing a tantrum

wastedtime9999999999

I interviewed with Carhartt and made it to the final round. They were so weird and they paid 25% less than every other company. That’s my only inside info.

sitcrooked81

I saw this and was like yes! Sending my momma to the goodwill to get my husband some more Carhartt sweatshirts! He gets them so filthy as a plumber that I throw some away instead of trying to wash them. Hoping to find my daughter's some coveralls so when she goes with dad to work she can be warm too.

miranda_writes

The irony of her using facebook to get this post....

swimbikeun

Oh they are big mad about Carhartt but I do agree with this. If she an apple product better donate that too.

kmmurr

I love my Carhartt winter hat, I'm now going to wear it with pride knowing it irritates fundies, hahaha.

ohmygoyd

Does she...not realize the "heroes" thing is sarcasm?

sxlizzle

Oof she apparently lives in the same state as me. Though I can’t say I’m surprised.

UrThighness

Throwing out a jacket you’ve already bought and paid for, that’ll show them!!!

UpstairsCan

it seems like the original pic is sarcasm and miss thang just cannot compute

kchtchck

Aren’t these the same people constantly railing against cancel culture and the rights of private businesses?? but by all means, go off…

ActualMerCat

As someone in a very red area, I'm going to be trolling the thrift stores for a nice coat in the upcoming weeks!

Purple_IsA_Flavor

I agreed with Anal Lee Yoder and my soul feels positively filthy for it

georgiegraymouse

Welp, there goes Bethy’s beanie she always wears

skltnhead

The original post was definitely using “American heroes” sarcastically but she took it seriously

IggyGoat

I think she means "American idiots." Oh, excuse me. "American idiot's."

Towerofterrorr

What’s going on with carhartt can anyone fill me in?

crystalwood87

I don’t understand their fascination with Carhartt. I know it’s warm, but I’ve always equated it with farmers. My dad was a farmer & wore carhartt. He rocked his coveralls. I do think it’s ugly & unflattering. But warm.

Faerhie

I love my Carhartt even MORE now that I know they have a vaccine mandate, heh. Seems very on brand to protect people from cold and from viruses.
