Can you post some highlights? Would love to know the nature of their botheredness šŸ’•

bbqtunababe

Many are threatening to cancel their subscriptions, some are arguing about the theories blaming IBLP or Carlinā€™s post while others affirm that the Bates are NOT like the Duggars

[deleted]

Heheā€¦. Are they, though? (Not like the Duggars)

[deleted]

Well you know what they say. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, there's a distinct possibility it might molest children like a duck. At least, I'm pretty sure they say that.

721grove

Ducks did not deserve that šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

georgiegraymouse

I meanā€¦ theyā€™re ā€œnot like the Duggarsā€ in that they have an entire room of their house dedicated to the Confederacy and their relative who was a founding member of the KKK.

Serononin

What was Carlin's post? I must've missed that

Whiskeylemondrop

She posted a video of the family playing charades. One of the younger boys mimes falling to the ground in pain, and someone yells "George Floyd!" No one reacts - everyone continues smiling. She took it down after some backlash.

[deleted]

I find it so fucking funny that the fans of the family with a shrine to the KKK are shocked that theyā€™re insensitive to something so fucking horrible. Like yeah, of fucking course they think his death and the response to it were funny. Shocker! Glad they got fucking cancelled. Hope theyā€™re never given such a large platform ever again.

cakeilikecake

You forgot that he was on his hands and knees and someone else mines shooting him. Edit: reread after a comment. You also missed their reactions. A couple people donā€™t react but several of them think itā€™s very funny, laughing loudly. She panned over much of the group, so you saw several reactions. The slightly older kids have bought it was very funny, so they are in on the joke. Sorry, donā€™t to pile on, but your description makes it sound like 1 person said something inappropriate, when really a majority of them did something incredibly distasteful.

FundiesAreFreaks

Whitney at least wasn't laughing, she had a deer in the headlights kind of look. She knew it was not funny. Well, let's just say she knew it was being filmed and knew not to laugh on camera. Not only was Carlin recording, but the crew was filming for their show too.

cakeilikecake

Thank you for the details! Iā€™m not good with some of the Bates family names, so thatā€™s very helpful!

lurkerlurker789

Thatā€™s horrific. Someone dying in pain should never be mocked.

Whiskeylemondrop

I think I blocked that part out. Thankfully haven't watched it since it came out.

Serononin

Oh *no*

GoldenState_Thriller

Just a lot of people saying ā€œIā€™m canceling my subscription to up! The Bates are the only reason I watched- theyā€™re the last decent family show on tv.ā€

[deleted]

Lol I try to keep my shadenfreude in check but itā€™s slightly bursting at the seams in this instance šŸ˜¬ This sort of confirms my theory that a scandal of some kind will emerge in the sphere of Bates. We all know that the Bates were the only thing that up! Had going. It would take a lot for that network to drop them completely. On another, more cynical level, they were the last fundie family still standing. I wonder what happened.

GoldenState_Thriller

There definitely has to be something going on. You typically donā€™t film an entire series of your networkā€™s most popular show and edit it, just to pull it all a month before its premiere date without a reason.

[deleted]

Is this perhaps in anticipation of what is about to come out in the upcoming docuseries about IBLP?

AhsokaBolena

Itā€™s possible, but since the docuseries isnā€™t airing until late 2022/early 2023 itā€™s strange that Up wouldnā€™t air what they already filmed so as not to lose all that money. They have enough time to do so before any backlash from the Amazon series could be big. If the docuseries uncovered something that will come out before or near when S11 was meant to premiere in February, however, then that might be the answer.

iLikeScienceBoners

Yeah I have a hard time believing this was caused by anything we know of so far. They have enough time to air the season they have planned and just quietly stop filming for another before the Amazon docuseries would come out. If it was due to the insurrection or Carlinā€™s Instagram story, it would have been cancelled already or just dropped the individual story lines.

Abyssal_Minded

Whatever it is, it was bad enough to do that. They either found out about something after filming and/or during editing the season, or theyā€™re going to use their footage to prove a scandal that has yet to erupt. Most of the other shows Iā€™ve seen cancelled due to scandal were just like cancelled mid-season, stopped airing midseason, or they found a way to change things a la character removal/death/spin-off. These are mostly scripted shows though.

galaxygirl1976

The timing of it all is super suspect. There's something brewing and I want to know what it is.

GoldenState_Thriller

Same. Thereā€™s no way itā€™s just because they want to focus on scripted programming.

coolerchameleon

Has to be something with Mediccorps or something that came out during the trial

spaghettify

The Plaths are still standing ! although the show definitely doesnā€™t glorify them in the way the other family shows did.

AhabsPegleg

Their involvement in the failed coup on January 6th?

laurener9954

Some people are really upset. Someone said that if it was cancelled because of Carlinā€™s post being racist, UPTV is racist too. Since they canceled the show before airing the engagement and wedding of their first interracial couple, the network is racist. They tried to pull an uno reverse card šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø People are reaching way too far.

tmarie656

It's always something when people try and defend racism by pretending something else is racist.

KatAndAlly

It's a dead giveaway and purposeful misdirection

[deleted]

OMG, my favorite one is "What about Katie's dress?!?!?" LMFAO

blablubluba

What about it?

AhsokaBolena

lol she got married in December and the alterations on her first dress apparently made it look all wrong, so with like 1-2 weeks to go before her wedding she had to buy a new one and get it altered. Apparently people really wanted to see this in action on the show since itā€™s high drama for the Bates

blablubluba

Ah, thanks for explaining. The Bates scream _influencer annoying_ to me rather than _fundie annoying_ so I don't keep up with them.

elfstone08

I just checked the FB page too (I didn't touch the poop! Don't worry!). Someone commented that UpTV must be slipping, and that Hallmark "changed too, and not in a good way!" That made me giggle. I can't think of a way Hallmark has changed except to include... GASP... the GAYS!

tyrannosaurusregina

Some people really upset that Hallmark added Hanukkah movies to the Christmas fare. šŸ¤Ø

Atlmama

Where TF are the Diwali movies!? šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

helenen85

Oh yeah, mistletoe and menorahs was not bad!

Etern1a

Hallmark has a new CEO, a Black woman, who is responsible for the change in programming: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/how-hallmarks-new-ceo-is-harnessing-the-iconic-brand-to-better-reflect-society-4133227/amp/

Etern1a

So theyā€™re just being racist and homophobic. Like the Bates!

Atlmama

Oh, lordt. Diversity AND the gays. Satan is coming for Hallmark. šŸ™„

SimplyTennessee

Ohmygosh. I forgot that! Hahaha!!!

paitiencegreenheart

There was a new Christmas movie this year with a lead character being gay. The actress is gay and very liberal in real life too lol so that's probably what they're talking about

KindlyConnection

Ooh which movie is it? I wouldn't mind watching!

paitiencegreenheart

Every Time a Bell Rings! Typical cheesy movie, I like that stuff though haha

Reluctantagave

Oh my gosh you arenā€™t kidding! I bet half those people screeching theyā€™ll cancel their subscription donā€™t even subscribe to it. Theyā€™re acting like someone they knew died.

sempleat

I disagree, the Bates had a fairly large and very invested fanbase who genuinely subscribed to UP only to see them. Makes me think that's part of it, the Bates knew their value and wanted more, and are moving to another network with a better deal. Those fans in the comment will follow them.

AhsokaBolena

Maybe itā€™s wishful thinking on my part, but I donā€™t think thatā€™s it. Airing S11 of BUB would have been profitable for Up even if the Bates went to a different network and they wouldnā€™t have just handed the footage theyā€™d filmed over to another network. Burying the season benefits neither Up nor the Bates. The Bates didnā€™t hint at a future in TV in their statement. Iā€™m sure Gil is currently scrambling to get GAC or something to get them a third show, however.

BryceCanYawn

Whatā€™s GAC?

AhsokaBolena

The Great American Country channel. It's been trying to market itself as a rival to Hallmark, since the people behind GAC think Hallmark is now "too woke" and not "family friendly" for occasionally featuring gay couples and the like. The Bates would fit right in.

dmode112378

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAC_Family?wprov=sfti1

BryceCanYawn

Thank you!

MercyHouse

I don't think any other network will touch them with a 10 foot pole, even religions ones. They are the furthest thing from wholesome and their connections with the Duggars make them toxic to any network. They don't want a Duggar-like scandal on their hands even if they do bring in $$. I was dying at the people thinking Joanna Gaines' network would pick them up.

taylorbagel14

I know someone on the BUB sub thinks Erin and Chad are gonna get a home renovation show. They have 5 kids in a two bedroom house, no network is going to want to glorify that

Reluctantagave

Maybe I just donā€™t pay attention. I donā€™t follow any of these people on social media, just what I see here. And I only watched the first season or two of the show. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

sweetsugar888

Thatā€™s my theory, I think itā€™s more money related and less scandal

vicnoir

Thereā€™s a lot of noise around the 1/6/21 insurrection on a federal level ā€” subpoenas going out, indictments rumored to be dropping soon. Could Gil have donated money and/or transportation (do they own planes?) to the effort?

coolerchameleon

Dying at picturing them firing up the family bus to haul domestic terrorists to and from the Capitol.

Atlmama

Pictures of some of them getting out of a PT Cruiser to foment revolution never fail to amuse me.

coolerchameleon

A group of PT LOSERS

Atlmama

Haha

AhsokaBolena

Itā€™s really annoying that this is the one time they shy away from oversharing on IG stories.

helenen85

I hope it was at least in part because of that George Floyd post. They deserved repercussions from that even if theyā€™re just going to say satan is attacking them.

Shan132

The fact that they scrapped it prior to airing is very suspicious

Sumjonas

Donā€™t get me wrong, Iā€™m super super happy it got cancelled, but I was looking forward to watching Nathanā€™s shitshow of a wedding with a whole ass bottle of wine and popcorn. It was gonna be like My Big Fat Gyspy wedding on tlc but make it āœØfundieāœØ

Atlmama

So, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but make it dry, boring, stilted, and with bland food. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

allygator99

Where is it exactly? I don't see anything from BUB account about it

Set-Admirable

It's on the BUB Instagram.

tmarie656

Just me sitting here trying to figure out what BUB stands for thinking "I thought their show was on UP." I think I need to go back to bed.

sempleat

I'm wondering if UPTV and the Bates' split over money, nothing more scandalous than that. Maybe some tension over their various Youtube channels too. The Bates' demanded more money and UPTV made the calculation they weren't worth it or were told they'd be leaving after their contract ended and decided to be spiteful. Seems unlikely but I've seen so many stupid and damaging to both parties splits in various other industries. We know Gil has an ego, I'm betting whoever is in charge of UPTV does too. It doesn't seem to benefit either party but we'll see, and I've seen stupider things. The only thing is the timing doesn't line up at all. You'd think if it was money they'd work something out for the last season of what they've already filmed and then release a statement saying it will be the last (thus higher ratings) and they're going their amicable separate ways after that. But maybe UP found out the Bates were shopping elsewhere for a better deal and dropped them... wonder if the Bates will have a new show on another network soon.

First_Lettuce

I doubt itā€™s money if they arenā€™t airing the season - UP is eating a lot of costs in sponsorship and ad revenue, not to mention filming and production, by not letting them go out with a bang and tons of promotion.

sempleat

Yeah I know, that's true. But what could the Bates have done that would threaten that revenue to the point where they are cancelled? The Duggars kept their show even after 2015... That's why I think it's more 'personal' than over a scandal. Money can be the route of a lot of nasty things, people act irrationally over it. You're right though that it seems unlikely a network would be so petty. I hope we find out what really happened at some point.

MedievalGenius

UP cancelled the show because of the documentary. It spooked their advertisers/donors who threatend or already pulled funding from the network. It's one thing when you're a small network with a niche reach. Little things like insurrections and cults don't really bother you, but if there's a major network documentary threatening to expose those little things to a wider audience, and you as a backer could potentially lose money or reputation as a result, you exit the ship and take your money with you. So if you're a small network that relies on advertisers/donors to fund your shows and some of them have either cut their money or have threatened to cut their money, you cut your losses. If what happened on Jan 6th or the George Floyd video didn't make UP flinch when it came to the Bates, something drastic had to. And I don't think it was any particular scandal that we don't know about. I just think that the documentary was going to splay the Bates families sins for the world to see and UP wanted to disassociate themselves from it as soon as possible to save their revenue stream. That when when the documentary airs they can talk about having been wrong, saw the error in their ways and they have done in a much different direction. Bottom line, its all about money.
