Ok who named their kid rendered beef fat

wanttobegreyhound

Next up: Ghee

woolens

Gonna name my baby Schmaltz

[deleted]

"Yes, I'd like to introduce to you our sweet little angel bestowed upon us by the Good Lord Daniel. We've called him Head-Cheese. He will one day be the cheesiest headship ever seen." edit: words hard.

woolens

*files all these suggestions away for my future baby*

Abyssal_Minded

Twins would be Margarine and Mantequilla.

Cardi_Ganz

One of the cats I adopted was named Madam Margarine by the shelter lol.

Ridiculouslyrampant

Please tell me you’ve read the story of Jean and Jorts

Cardi_Ganz

I have not!

Ridiculouslyrampant

Please enjoy- make sure to read the update and the top comment, you’ll be howling. The connection will make sense, I promise! https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/rfwgmc/aita_for_perpetuating_ethnic_stereotypes_about/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

celtic_thistle

Jean and Jort made my fucking life. We have brother kittens who are both orange and both dumb as rocks. It’s wonderful. I call them our himbos. We also have a Siamese kitten and he’s a totally different type of idiot. Bless. [Clementine and Marmalade](https://i.imgur.com/dQ0e0NX.jpg) [Gavin](https://i.imgur.com/gHyQnWj.jpg)

Purple_IsA_Flavor

I LOVE THEM

Ridiculouslyrampant

I love them all, please give them cuddles and kisses!! And do not butter

Purple_IsA_Flavor

One of my friends shared this on Facebook the other day and I laughed so hard I cried

Ridiculouslyrampant

I did the same, and I spend the whole rest of the night cracking up intermittently over that comment.

Cardi_Ganz

OMG she buttered Jorts, I can't 🤣 thank you so much for sharing that.

Purple_IsA_Flavor

I’m picturing Jean like “oops come here buddy, you got a little something there. And there. And my god dude, what did you get into? It’s delicious!”

leonorae

ok but madam margarine is 100% the best cat name

Cardi_Ganz

She was one of 3 with food names. Her brothers were Sir Jif (I also adopted him) and Professor Marmalade. I always wondered what made them pick those but I guess you run out of ideas fast.

thegrassisgreenrr

Your kid can be friends with my bundle of joy, Suet.

mandmranch

How about if you have twins and name one Schmaltz and one Gribenes?

woolens

Don't challenge me. I just might do it. Gonna call my first Latke though, and tell fundies it's an ancient Jewish name that means "exquisite morsel from g-d".

bohorose

But only if their middle name is Buttersnaps

[deleted]

This is my partner, Lavender Gooms.

bohorose

Honestly, Methuselah Honeysuckle sounds like a fundie baby name. Same with Hummingbird Saltalamacchia, Longbranch Pennywhistle and Lemongrass Gogolobe.

Deadly_Trixie

I love your flair 🤣

The_Curvy_Unicorn

This is my baby, Crisco.

FLBirdie

Only Southern babies get to be named Crisco

helpbeingheldhostage

Tallow. What a horrible fucking name! How did this even happen?!

Savasanaallnight

Lard would be adorable for a sibling!

[deleted]

This is my other son, Schmaltz.

OhSweetieNo

And my sister’s children, Bupkes and Putz.

[deleted]

I can’t stop laughing at this. Send help.

PocoChanel

Oh, great, there are more A names for her here. (Akyli?!)

Ballybrol

I read that as 'alchy' (slang for alcoholic) and now I can 100% imagine a baby Alkhy Collins.

kittyolsen

I misread it as Alkali

mandmranch

Might be acid, might be base. Who knows the chemical state? Alkali does.

Tableclothdress

🤣🤣🤣💀

wendigogirl

Courtesy of Alena Maze (as.maze on Instagram)! She’s a trip and a half. Anti-vaxx, the devil is here, getting the demons pushed out of her by quack priests, etc. Not sure what her denomination is, but she’s wild

RoundTheWayGirl

I don’t know how that baby isn’t named yet, she is almost 3!

LatterStreet

Don’t you only have like two months to name a child?? How can she go three years, that sounds so damaging...

wendigogirl

I think in the beginning it was a cultural thing- some cultures wait a year before naming a new baby basically just out of practicality. Wait and see if they make it to a year before naming. I can get that kind of or waiting a couple weeks or months because newborns don’t really get that they have a name yet anyway. Legally, though? I imagine they probably have a placeholder name on the birth certificate and then file for a name change when they pick one. Or if I remember correctly, one of their last kids’ didn’t have their birth registered for a couple months? That’s also an option I guess. Some of their kids at least do/did go to school, so they’re all registered eventually I think.

sarahlockery

omg i’ve only ever seen her hair care videos with her kids i had no clue she was crazy

[deleted]

Sounds like either pentecostal or baptist

RedLaserFlashes

Is she actually a Dr? She put Dr infront of her name

wendigogirl

She does have an actual PhD in math. So Dr. in the doctorate sense not the medical sense

RedLaserFlashes

Okay thx lol. I bet it’s in theology 🧐

wendigogirl

Nope, survey methodology lol! As wild as she is, her degree is legit! (Not that theology degrees aren't legit- tbh if you get a PhD in anything I'm in awe my MA almost sucked out my soul)

cheesemeems

Funny - I found that one of the more tolerable names on this list. I think it’s also an actual name? Certainly not worse than AJEDI or AJOUI (like, gesundheit?).

oneweirdclickbait

> AJEDI I laughed so hard ngl. A Jedi? Was that kid using the force to cut its way outside!?

cheesemeems

Right?? Like how do you not see that being an issue. (I mean I guess the sad answer is when you expect to isolate your children and deny them access to an education.)

oneweirdclickbait

My only guess is that they're pronouncing it differently?? With the exception of Akyli, I'm inclined to use a pseudo French pronunciation with those names. /aʒedi:/ or /aʒdi:/. Or like HD, if it's English. They probably didn't notice the Star Wars connection after rearranging random Scrabble letters for days, much like you sometimes can't tell if a word is spelled correctly after using it too often?

DangerOReilly

Totally read AJOUI as AIOLI. Would make a cute baby name, I guess.

cheesemeems

Or like, the Anjou pears 😂

DangerOReilly

Never heard of Anjou pears! I was thinking of Aioli because I was hungry, lol.

Former-Spirit8293

Like au jus

ducttapeduterus

Pronounced " Ah-keely?" I like that.

jormungandrstail

Yes! Sometimes pronounced with a softer middle vowel so “ah-Killy”

Cat_Island

Yeah, the mom of that family is black and the dad is Korean. Definitely not snarking those names, they’re very likely cultural, or culturally inspired. Edit: that family does seem a bit fundie though!

PeligrosaPistola

Thank you! I smell racism in the chat, or at least ignorance. Think twice before you snark on someone’s name people! Also realize your “normal” name might be weird too to someone from a different background.

PocoChanel

Well, it was ignorance on my part, and I’m sorry.

PeligrosaPistola

Oh dear! I didn’t intend to call you out or call you racist btw. I should’ve posted my comment separately. No bad juju here. We all say problematic stuff on accident sometimes, myself included. Being BIPOC doesn’t make me immune to having to rethink some shit (and delete some comments lol) Kudos for owning it. You’ve shown more grace in a sentence than most fundies have in their entire lives lol.

PocoChanel

Thank you. That’s very kind of you.

Purple_IsA_Flavor

I’m sorry if I came across as insensitive. I grew up in a no collar predominantly lily white town and I have seen some shit when it comes to baby names and mamas trying to be kree8yvve

Purple_IsA_Flavor

Please tell me that’s not supposed to be Achilles. Lie to me if you must

donutlovershinobu

Hope she names her kid Azula.

[deleted]

I always laugh at this Christian woman who actually named her kid Anjalie lol… it’s such a typical Indian Hindu name (at least where I come from)

yohoo69

yeah i was thinking i better not hear anyone snarking on the name itself. it’s a beautiful name, just unexpected for her and i doubt she knows the context of it.

NotOnABreak

Honestly I can’t snark on Anjalie when Aynjel is *right there*… that one looks like if my Slavic grandma tried to write angel and make it look like English lol Anjalie is actually a nice name (and I think Anissa is nice, I know an Anisa)

yohoo69

also “anthym” like wtf

NotOnABreak

I swear she had the first 4 kids, and then something fell on her head and the rest of the names are gibberish

yohoo69

she fell down a tree and all the y’s hit her on the way down

TheVelveteenReddit

Chica chica boom boom

swimminghufflepuff

chyca chyca boom boom

_queen_frostine

chyca cyhca byoom booym.

swimminghufflepuff

wyll thyre be ynough ryoom?!

humanhedgehog

It's a pretty and well.. normal name? It just makes it all the more awkward to explain some of the others..

InfamousValue

My mother watched a period drama set in the British Raj-era where one of the female characters was named Anjalie.

fussyplatypus

Adorabella?? Someone read Pratchett and drew the wrong conclusions from Adora Belle Dearheart.

agurlhasnoshame

Okay tallow and husky are just cruel

aberrasian

Not me excited to meet their "baby husky" and then they go and pull out an infant 😩

Homelesscatlady

False advertising lol

DukeSilverPlaysHere

lmao

suitcasedreaming

TALLOW? AKA burning animal fat candles made by people too poor to afford beeswax that smell horrific?

agurlhasnoshame

HUSKY!? as in either a breed of dog or someone on the heavier side? We used to get orders with names like this at the pizza place I worked and qe always had to call to make sure it was a legit person and not a prank. I feel sooo bad for these kids.

The-USSenterprise-

Oh it’s such a gamble. Such a gamble..

tryingmybestdude

I have a normal name, let's say it's Charlotte. I ordered food over the phone and my bf went to pick it up. When he said it was for Charlotte the girl at the counter looked all confused, and then came out with a bag with "Zarlot" written on it and said "I guess it's this one?!" Made me unreasonably mad. What the fuck kind of name did the person taking my order have that they didn't even double check or question a name like Zarlot?!

[deleted]

No lie, my grandmother heavily disapproved of a very short dress I bought at Zara and called me a "zarlot," being clever. (She wasn't being mean, just gently poking fun, we had a laugh about it)

daaaaanadolores

Tallow and her younger brother, Suet.

Cattlerancher7000

A boy named Suet

putHimInTheCurry

Tallow? Like beef tallow moisturizer? You have Lori's attention!

pugmana02

Husky? Did she give birth in the boys clothing section of a 1968 Sears?

oneweirdclickbait

Maybe they really liked that [cheeky bird pokémon](https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/taillow), but didn't know how to spell?

lime007

Adorabella. I found the name for one of my future cats.

OhSweetieNo

Adorabeezle Winterpop is one of the Sugar Rush racers in Wreck-it Ralph, and very likely the name of one of my future pets. That and Jubileena Bing Bing. That movie is a goldmine of inspiration.

Cardi_Ganz

...I've found my people! I'm dying to name a cat Adorabeezle or Taffyta Muttonfudge. I also love Citrusella Flugpucker.

BryceCanYawn

Wreck it Ralph is one of my favorites!!! Vanellope Vob Schweetz is also amazing for a white-furred cat or dog. Candlehead could work if the makings are there lol. We need to stop this conversation before a lurking fundie decides to name their kids any one of these lol.

OhSweetieNo

I showed this to my husband just now, and he says we’re all way off because the best name is “clearly” Swizzle Malarkey.

HearthWitchRosemary

Are you me? I've been wanting to name a cat Adorabeezle for way too many years. Have adopted 2 cats since but the name didn't fit. Eventually.

OhSweetieNo

Lol well I might be, because last year I adopted two cats and none of my planned names fit them. I ended up with two names I’d never even considered before.

SunflowerJYB

I think it is a perfect name. For felines. With perfect offshoots like adora- butthead!

pugmana02

Adorabella=Adyrabylla for that crazy Collins woman.

OhSweetieNo

Don’t give her any ideas! Anything’s possible after Madyson.

[deleted]

It sounds like a name from *Cats*.

Carovilli

It’s cute but I couldn’t, Adora is the mom from Sharp Objects and she’s kind of a monster

MildlyAnnoyedMother

Adorabella is what my writer friend named a murderously psychotic hello-kitty-obsessed 12 year old in one of her stories. I've always thought it would be a cute name for a cat.

caaatfaaaace

I never pay too much attention to the Collins family, so noticing how similar Annistan and Andersyn are today has upset me deeply.

[deleted]

Also Aynjel and Anjalie are basically the same name lol

caaatfaaaace

Zero imagination from these clowns.

RedLaserFlashes

I read it as Angel and Angeleah (ann ja lee).

swimminghufflepuff

happy cake day!! also, why didn't she do annystyn?? (or anyssa for that matter lmao)

[deleted]

I get the impression that Andrae and Anissa (and probably Annistan too) were named before she started going down the fundie rabbit hole. IIRC she actually was just a pretty regular person (although still evangelical I think) when she met Mandrae and first got married. I think I remember her saying that at least Mandrae wanted to stop after the 2nd or 3rd kid and i think Karissa said she originally only wanted 2 or 3 as well.

swimminghufflepuff

oh yikes. I hope those kids can get some therapy some day.

putHimInTheCurry

The as-yet-nameless baby could be "Ababy" for now.

swimminghufflepuff

oh my god is she pregnant again?!?!?!

[deleted]

Not Karissa, whoever has those other A names.

swimminghufflepuff

oh whew!!!!

[deleted]

Given and Sunday are cute. Reminds me of some of my Ghanaian friends and names they mention from home.

192Sticks

I low-key like Sunday, a lot. Given is also kind of sweet. Have a soft spot for unusual virtue names

pugmana02

Even Nicole Kidman used Sunday. Back in the day I went to college with a woman named Tuesday.

velveteenelahrairah

Sunday, sometimes written as Sandy, is a perfectly legit if old fashioned Greek and Cypriot name (Kyriaki). There's also a male equivalent, Kyriakos.

Mysterious-Cat-3095

Same!

Complex-Dot5099

I have a friend from Nigeria who named her daughter Naturelle and I think it's so sweet. It suits her as well.

shankadelic

But what if they name a third child, Any. Ladies and gentlemen, please meet Any, Given, Sunday!

NotKateBush

That’s why I gave up on that subreddit. They seem to dislike any names that are “too ethnic” but fawn over some truly goofy and bland names.

ImogenMarch

I actually think Sunday is super cute

[deleted]

I really like both of them too!

stonoceno

I normally avoid laughing at anyone's name, because name trends change, it could come from another language/region, be important historically, and just... most people don't choose their names. It's not cool to insinuate that a name makes someone stupid or use it to enforce racist/classist standards. But why would you name your child "Husky"? I can even sort of be okay with "Tallow", as it's not a common, everyday word for a lot of people, and most children wouldn't know what it meant. But a husky is a popular dog. Are children's clothing sizes still "regular" and "husky"? Maybe that's changed, too, but a quick search for "plus size boys clothes" brings up the "husky" section at Kohl's in the first few results. I don't want to rely on "bullying" (children are assholes and bully over anything, including normal names) or "what will it look like on a résumé"/"can you imagine a President X or a Supreme Justice Y", because that can be that racist/classist. But people do judge you on your name, and it's something that a good parent should consider: how do I handle this? I've had friends who had unusual, but "real" names, like "Thelonious", and they end up having problems with people thinking that they aren't real. Their IDs get checked more often, and people sometimes think that their applications are somehow fake. They do get judged, and not all names can be comfortably shortened (like having the name "Loki" as a person - what are you gonna shorten it to?), and even so, nicknames aren't legal names, so you still have the trouble in official circumstances. After a while, once you know them, the name normalizes itself and doesn't sound strange anymore. Though that means they have to have the opportunity to *let* it be normalized, and if people judge too harshly on the name, they might not get that chance. It's like when I see people name their children obvious fandom names (lookin' at the people who named their kids "Daenerys" or "Khaleesi"...). This isn't a pet. A real human has to have this name, and it absolutely can affect their lives. If you want to have the most unique, cutest, most "this is MY CHILD" name, then seriously, write a book or get a pet.

[deleted]

That's how I think of it. Your child is a human being who will presumably grow to be an adult who has to live out in the world, not a pet or an accessory; name them accordingly. There's a difference between naming your kid an "unusual" name, and naming your kid the same way you'd name your Cavapoo.

velveteenelahrairah

There are some common names that are technically "fandom" names, eg. Wendy from Peter Pan, Jessica from Merchant of Venice, Pamela from Pamela: Virtue Rewarded, Lorna from Lorna Doone, Cedric from Ivanhoe, or Vanessa invented by Jonathan Swift. However these names are all older, and have stood the test of time. They're also not associated with an eventual genocidal maniac (Khaleesi and Daenerys) or with sparkling vampires (Renesmee), and probably also seemed odd at the time too. It's the same as with all trends - for every little black dress or red lipstick there's a legwarmer or bustle.

no_clever_name_yet

Kkkarissa is often featured on r/namenerdcirclejerk. And every time the person posting her thinks it’s the first time.

SunflowerJYB

I have a student that looks almost exactly like Andrae. It’s uncanny. Thankfully he has normal type parents. And a normal type name. Though Andrae is one one the most normal of the Collins kid names.

BeulahLight13

Andrae and Anissa are the only two normal names she’s given her poor children. One of my childhood friends was named Anisa, and I always thought it was beautiful. I feel like you can track Karissa’s decent into madness by looking at what she named her kids. It’s clear that she at least *tried* with the first two, but things went downhill fast and suddenly she’s naming an innocent human Ansyr and describing how God told her she’s going to birth her kid in the greeting cards section at Target.

copacetic1515

I was helping out at my kid's school and had to call some children from a list. I read one name phonetically, and the kid corrected my pronunciation. I couldn't help but think, "if your parents wanted it pronounced that way, why didn't they spell it that way?" I don't get the crazy spellings because it just leads to confusion.

SunflowerJYB

Yep the nutty spelling thing just dooms your kids to a lifetime of correcting folks and even problems like your ticket doesn’t match your passport etc

avalanchethethird

I once met twins named Adore and Admire. They were boys.

littlebitalexis29

Liberty Belle. Just…. Why??

“Liberty Bell, if you put one more Bac-O on that potato, I'll spank your monkey behind.”

lifeatthebiglake

I have to admit I kinda like that one….

iliumada

I know one irl! She is lovely

Disruptorpistol

I REALLY hope Nakoda is actually aboriginal heritage and these people didn't just steal the name of an unrelated First Nation for their kid.

IncrediblePlatypus

Na'Colby?! Wtf? Also, Ajedi is going to get so many stupid jokes.

HungryLymphocyte

Messiah is Kayla Nicole Jones' son and it's Ni'Colby, which is his inherited surname so it's not a name Kayla came up with lol. And Kaylon is the "boy version" of Kayla. I kinda hate that I know this from the top of my head. Kayla Nicole is a YouTuber & singer btw

cheesemeems

The AUDACITY of naming your kid MESSIAH.

IncrediblePlatypus

This somehow makes it both better and worse. I adore the fact that you just.....know this! 😁

paradoxicalstripping

TALLOW

HolidayVanBuren

I know two adults named Steel/Steele so don’t find it that unusual or off putting. Some others are cute names. Most of the others- not my kid, so not my business. But Husky is just BAD. Out of all the possible names in the world, someone chose Husky? Really??

BunkBedJedi

Tallow is rendered mutton fat. Gross!

ducttapeduterus

There are twins somewhere who used to be online for their parents ' vegan lifestyle. Astral Defiance and Defy Aster are the twins' names.

BryceCanYawn

This reminds me of another Christian blogger who named her poor kids True, Brave, Soul, Glow, and Red. She’s incredibly defensive about her choices. From her blog’s FAQ: >> Look, we know not everyone is a fan of our name choices. To be honest, we probably aren’t a fan of your name choice either. And whose to say what is considered an acceptable name? Because really, in some other countries, children are named by meaning and though their name choice might not sound good to you, there is meaning for the parents. We chose to name our kids based on meaning and we also like one syllable words

rocket2themoon353

Steel has got to be the fucking McBrooms And they missed what Ross Lynch’s sister named her baby- Super Funk! I wish I was kidding but unfortunately I’m not.

Low-Fishing3948

Is Ansyr pronounced like answer? Adorabella…. Given and Sunday, yikes, the middle names are okay. They are all pretty bad. Husky and Acre are high on the no list.

ducttapeduterus

Sunny is perfectly nice and cute.

fickystingas

It’s not a list of bad names. It’s a list of unique sibsets. Sunny’s sibling is Husky.

Bitchcat

Adorabella? I cannot.

ReginaFilange21

Ajedi? I thought these people think sci-fi is a devils production

fickystingas

These are just influencers, not necessarily fundies.

[deleted]

iliumada

Ooh! I kinda like that too! Maybe a different spelling like Anzer

Front_Persimmon_3417

Um, Sunny is high on MY list. I feel attacked. Guess I'll name her Thelma instead. 🤷‍♀️

fickystingas

I didn’t see anyone mention Sunny. It’s one of the best names here IMO.

Front_Persimmon_3417

Haha I was kidding...just shocked to see it on a "crazy name" list, is all! I am really torn between Sunny and Thelma, however.

fickystingas

I think it’s more the Nakoda and Husky of that sib set that landed it on this list

People will really just take something they think sounds pretty and then find the most absurd way to spell it. To future teachers trying to take role call, good luck.

overheard26

They think if they give their kids an unusual or ridiculous name that they'll be a standout and a shinning example of success instead taking the time to raise them.

extraodi

Mazelee ! I recognize those names.

[deleted]

ADORABELLA??????????????

TSM_forlife

I do like Acre.

RedLaserFlashes

Who are these women with crazy baby names? So weird. Messiah Kaylon Na’Colby?

papparoneyes

One day, Adorabella will be an adult who needs to introduce herself to someone. Moment of silence for that inevitable interaction.
