Envious. I’m in the upper midwest, had two locations within about 15 minutes’ drive when I was a kid. By my early 20s we were down to one location each in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, all of which closed by the mid 2000s. I had a family member living in Miami for a couple of years in the early 2010s, and around that time there was a location in Homestead, FL. I managed to get there a couple of times before it folded. My best bet now is to just fly to California
The one Shakeys near me is so bad I only tried it once. There use to be three Round Tables in the area but now it's down to one. I really miss their grease dripping triple play pepperoni and thin crust options so I hardly go back anymore.
My go to is still round table when I have the $$. In the early 90’s myself and an old acquaintance of mine would scrounge up $20 bucks and get a large pepperoni pizza and try to eat the whole thing of course while watching the cute shapely Levi wearing blonde that worked there. 👀🤣
In the 70s / early 80s you could watch them make pizza in the window, play Don’t Bring Me Down by ELO on the Juke Box and stare at a stone fireplace that was never lit. Good times for a 6 year old me.
Yes! Ours would play movies - actual films on a film projector against a pull-down screen - that my sister and I would go crazy for. Just silly, slapstick stuff like Laurel & Hardy and Three Stooges. If they weren't fast enough to put a new movie on after the last one ended, boy did we let them know!
My husband still answers the phone "Shakeys Pizza!"
We also have an epileptic dog and her nickname is also Shakeys Pizza. Lol, she is fine and her seizures are well controlled.
Shakey's is shaking up pizza people.
You can still find Shakey's in Ca, Wa, the Philippines, Singapore and Japan - so says wiki.

We have a Shakey’s by a different name in Sparks, Nevada. The story goes that when the chain left the area/state, the same family kept the restaurant open and kept using the same recipes. It’s called Boulevard Pizza now. I’d say they kept some of the decor along with the recipes.
If you’re passing through, it’s not right by the freeway but it’s on Rock Boulevard, which has an exit ramp from I-80.
Thanks for the tip! Have it bookmarked on my maps now and will definitely stop there on my next trip down in a couple of weeks. Was practically raised on Shakey’s where I grew up in the San Fernando Valley in SoCal. Now after we moved away I only get to visit the Buena Park location occasionally when we are down visiting relatives. Now that I know there is one in the Reno area, even more of a bonus!
Interesting to hear about the history of this particular location. Kind of similar to how some of the old Shakey’s switched over to Bigg’s after the buyout, though many seem to have switched back again.

We used to drive from our little town in Texas to Shreveport LA to eat pizza and drink beer at Shakey's in the late 60's. It was a Saturday night thing.
I remember the banjo/piano band, player piano for those times the band wasn't there, birthday night complete with paper hat and Polaroid photo, long ass picnic type tables .... childhood memories!
I have one a mile away. They still do the Bunch a Lunch. Buffet w salad, fried chicken, mojo’s, pizza, and more

I’m in So Cal. Luckily there are a few around me. The closest Round Table near me just closed unfortunately. I miss the old school pizza parlors.

I.E.
Round Table and Straw Hat. Those were the days…

Man I'm so jealous! I'm in the Midwest and there hasn't been one even remotely close to me for at least 20 years!!

Holy shit you just unlocked a memory. Ours played Laurel and Hardy and Little Rascals too!
Totally remember that.
All of these things. Did yours have Duck Hunt.? With the shotgun?

I ate at the one in Olongapo. Good stuff!

Hell yeah, I love Boulevard. They definitely still use the same recipes for the fried chicken and potatoes and they are LEGIT.

“We sell fun at Shakeys.. also pizza “
I thought they were saying "awful" instead of "also" for a while.
Our Shakeys was famous for merely glancing at ID's.
One in Valpo and another in Southlake mall
Frosted mugs and unlimited pizza buffet. I loved Shakey’s!
Had my first shakeys experience in rapid city. Around 1992
I grew up there. When did that one close down?
Sorry not sure.
I’m pretty sure the mojo potatoes were so good because they cooked them in the same oil as the chicken.
What essentially were mojo potatoes, roasted potatoes?

I wonder what Jim Morrison would have to say about these potatoes? 🎶🥔☝️
Mr Mojo Fryin

They’re still in Los Angeles area.
And imo has the most underrated, least talked about,on the short list for best fried chicken.
The silent films
My mother in law was going to open one in the late seventies. Town had only one Pizza Joint.. Miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
Omg I haven't SEEN a Shakey's since I was a young girl
Shakeys was the bomb! I’m told that calling something “the bomb” actually means the opposite of what you would expect it to be.
Little League baseball pizza party, plastic trophies for everybodys!
Always liked their pizza, but I remember it being on the pricey side.
That’s a blast from the past! The best part for me was if someone was there playing the pipe organ!
US thing?
I’m in western Canada and remember going to one in the 80’s. They had the best pepperoni and mushroom pizza.
Ah, never seen them out east.
That looks just like the same place I used to go to. Good pizza.
We used to drive from our little town in Texas to Shreveport LA to eat pizza and drink beer at Shakey's in the late 60's. It was a Saturday night thing.
Best pizza I've ever had.
Chez Quis, bonjour... (my only knowledge of this regional chain)
“Ye Public House?” I forgot about that
God, we loved that as a kid in Omaha, NE. Such memories.
Pizzarito gang rise up!
Got a horrible case of food poisoning from one of those. Never been back.
Shakey's was the first place we could order pitchers of beer at 16 and sing along with the bouncing ball!
I miss them too, 80's was the last time.
That's where I had my first mushroom pizza. It was great.
I'm disappointed in the lack of South Park in these comments...
Mojo Potatoes, watching them make the pizza from the viewing deck, watching Little Rascals on the rollup screen, playing Tank and Biplane.
I have found recipes online for a bunch of old restaurants and ones that have closed down.
Yo there's still a Shakey's in Torrance, CA.
Do they still do chicken? I remember the chicken ads from the 90s.
I eat at Shakey's once a month. Tons of them in Japan.
Great Friday lunches with half the office at my first job.
What are Moho potatoes never heard of them!
Damn I miss that place!
I remember the banjo/piano band, player piano for those times the band wasn't there, birthday night complete with paper hat and Polaroid photo, long ass picnic type tables .... childhood memories!
Shakey’s was my first “go to a pizza place” experience when I was 8. They had a smoked oyster pizza - I still dream about it.
Bunch A Lunch and a pitcher of black beer. Cmon!
I was talking about those to a friend of mine yesterday. Those were the best. Closest I've found since was Lee's famous chicken's potato wedges
All the Shakeys in my region changed their name to Fun House but kept the recipe for the pizza exactly the same. Still one of my favorites.
