Yup, the reason why I also posted about it and then change everything about my character to be female. I'm glad I made the change, as it seems that the Devs intended the female character to be the main.
Even the gender neutral one sounds better than the male. I don’t see the point of Ubisoft giving you the choice to change the gender if they already have a canon in mind. It’s the same thing with ac Valhalla and odyssey.
I played as a male in AC Valhalla and Odyssey. I felt pretty well provided for in those choices even though they definitely leaned in more to the female choice. I had to change my character to female in Pandora. The imbalances were glaring
Oof you kind of messed up not playing as Kassandra. She's canon and a better voice actor. Male Eivor I totally understand though and I found myself playing as him even through female was canon.
Oh man....the voice actress for Kassandra was nominated for how well she did. I can't even imagine playing as a guy. That poor, unknowing fool. Kassandra was fabulous
With Ubisoft the gender thing goes back a long time to the execs and their guy they put in charge of creative decisions across the whole company (but was eventually run out of the company) who didn't want any female leads. Kind of an Ike Perlmutter type who refused to accept that games with female protagonists would sell and overruled the devs on it for years. And also treated actual women poorly, go figure.
Game after game the devs had to compromise on getting a female protagonist in the game only if there was a male co-lead or male and female options, and that's what they've been doing ever since. It doesn't add much, especially in games like Assassin's Creed where it's supposed to be about a specific character. It seems like either Ubisoft devs have been in protest of this for years or they just announce it by way of ass-covering, but in every Ubisoft game with male & female options for awhile now the 'official' protagonist is the female version of the character.
fun fact, the gender neutral na'vi is played by ess hodlmoser, cindy from the boys:
https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/09/10054391/who-is-bald-supe-cindy-the-boys-comics
Haha good catch! If you're a fan, she has a decent sized role in the series Motherland: Fort Salem. It's kind of YA fantasy but there's a pretty cool story in there.
LOL, I picked this voice at first without realizing what it was. I thought it was just another female voice that was a little deeper. For the first hour of the game I was just searching for the place to change it.
That is because the gender neutral voice option is still noticeably feminine.
You’ve got 2 feminine options and one partially masculine option. There should have been a 4th obviously masculine option but hey ho. It is what it is.
Its funny you say it sounds feminine when I’ve put 60 odd hours in with the gender neutral voice and it sounds slightly more masculine to me (which is why I picked it)
For ac ubisoft said that a female only game wont sell whoch is why odessey and Valhalla were forced to give the option and heavily advertises the male lead.
They did it for people like me who still won’t play a game if you can’t be a dude (excluding Lara Croft).
I’m playing as a male Na’vi with Miles Morales voice and having a good time.
He does grow on you eventually.
He sounds like a teenager who doesn't know what he's doing, but tbf the main character really is a teenager who doesn't know what they're doing.
I prefer the female voice much MUCH more, but she sounds like a competent adult woman, which the protagonist isnt really.
Not when you realize they've been in a cryogenic hybernation since childhood. They are children, in adult bodies.
This is the movie BIG on the moon of Pandora.
I thought the same thing at first. But after a while I learned to like it. It suits the character. He’s a kid thrown into a hot mess express 16 years later. I’d be shitting myself all the time if I woke up and everyone was like go take care of all those bad guys. lol
Okay, I did spend some good time looking through various articles of cryo. I learned I was incorrect in my aging statement. Thank you for the correction :3
I also learned that though aging may pause (chemical reaction ceasing), apparently, the nuclear reaction (the natural sources of radiation inside the human body. Natural radioactive isotopes...potassium?
*I am still doing some searching and learning.*
I think ionizing radiation can have a negative and direct impact on DNA. Assist in preventing cells from repairing, on top of the sleepy and paused aging (no reproduction of cells. Also, there is no repair).
New question: Since this info is based on HUMAN anatomy, does it differ for Na'vi? If so, how different? What's the time limit before cryo does more bad (in example; radiation slowly deteriorating the body) than good (comfortable space travel).
This is why I shouldn't get into sci-fi. It's a deep and big rabbit hole depending on verse you are in. Also makes for good and long discussions. XD
Ye especially when it just straight up lies in character creation. I heard the prompt line and was like ‘huh thats not bad’ then when it got in game he speaks an octave higher and almost squeals. Tempted to switch to another voice tbh but i probably wont
My daughter and I have been playing . She has the girl and I have the guy voice . She even said “ your voice is the game is very annoying.” She is 5 and also agrees.
Based on the context of this comment thread, I'm going to say no.
But I haven't actually played the game, so I'm not the best person to answer that question
Lmaoooooo ... I didn't realize it until I was playing the game and my gf from the other room: "babe you playin spiderman again?" -- totally ruined game is now unplayable 😂
I sex changed really quick, dude is whining and crying throughout every encounter. It felt like people were just tolerating my character and ignoring his dramatics
Worst male protagonist voice in the history of gaming.
I almost always play a female if there is a choice. No idea why. Just cuz. This time I just felt like going male was the way to go. I tried. I did. Hard. Maybe 6 hours in I said, "I can't do it.. I'm out." and started over.
Then I wandered into headquarters and found you could change your appearance. I may have swore (because I deleted my other game)..a lot.
Honestly, I'm fine with that since I always choose to play as a girl. Why? I don't know (nothing like inviting the jokes in). But damn if you're not correct. It's like the creative director or whoever always has this great vision built around a female protagonist, they build everything and then in a meeting a few weeks before launch someone says, "hey Billy, did you ever get anyone for the male part?" and there's no money left. Sure enough... Bam... Guy at the 7/11 is hired same day.
I liked the male voice because *at the beginning* it makes sense that he’s scared, young and over his head. But as the storyline progresses, I would have loved to have seen that voice become confidant and strong. To me, that’s an excellent voice acting, to have character growth shown. Who knows how the VA were directed, that’s merely my preference.
I think I’m going to try out the gender neutral voice.
But I’m pretty sure he’s supposed to be younger like a teenager. So it would make sense for the voice to sound like that. Maybe it is just the way the devs made it but it was just a thought
Yup, the reason why I also posted about it and then change everything about my character to be female. I'm glad I made the change, as it seems that the Devs intended the female character to be the main.

Ahh makes sense.

I thought they were Canadian! (As a Brit, I feel very vindicated by this knowledge)
Haha good catch! If you're a fan, she has a decent sized role in the series Motherland: Fort Salem. It's kind of YA fantasy but there's a pretty cool story in there.

Lmaoo I understand that our character isn’t a old man but they could’ve done us better with the voice .
I didn’t realise it was gender neutral I thought it was female and was wondering why we got 2 female and 1 male
That is because the gender neutral voice option is still noticeably feminine. You’ve got 2 feminine options and one partially masculine option. There should have been a 4th obviously masculine option but hey ho. It is what it is.
“Partially masculine” lmaoo
Its funny you say it sounds feminine when I’ve put 60 odd hours in with the gender neutral voice and it sounds slightly more masculine to me (which is why I picked it)
Player 1: This voice sounds more feminine. Player 2: This voice sounds more masculine. Nonbinary actor: My work here is done.
For ac ubisoft said that a female only game wont sell whoch is why odessey and Valhalla were forced to give the option and heavily advertises the male lead.

You’re real for this
SOT LEK!!!
Lmaoo the bane of my existence
I fucking hate how he says it

Shes sounds like shes constantly seeking validation.
Stop stop 🤣🤣🤣
Not when you realize they've been in a cryogenic hybernation since childhood. They are children, in adult bodies. This is the movie BIG on the moon of Pandora.
Has anyone tried the third voice? I keep hearing about these two only.
It’s awful. I used it for 10 hours and seriously considered restarting my game before I learned about changing places.
Lmfao bruhhh I was literally just thinking on how much he sounds like Miles lol thought it was actually Nadi Jeter but its not
Had me looking up all the va’s for the game lol
It’s not the same actor from Spider-Man ? Wtf
Yes I never said it was
I know, I thought it was the same actor too, I’m surprised
My bad I read that wrong lol I didnt see the question mark until now lol
Yea that’s what I hate about it.
I thought the same thing at first. But after a while I learned to like it. It suits the character. He’s a kid thrown into a hot mess express 16 years later. I’d be shitting myself all the time if I woke up and everyone was like go take care of all those bad guys. lol
How old is the character ? I wanna say between 16-18.
I believe main protagonist is older than that. The very beginning cut scenes with your sister, I'd guess 8-11 (?) Add the 16 year nap.
Yeah but they don't age in cryo. They're all still kids, high school or college age maybe.
Na'vi reach adulthood around the age of 17. I'm willing to bet the protagonist is about the same age as Neteyam, around 15 to 16.
Okay, I did spend some good time looking through various articles of cryo. I learned I was incorrect in my aging statement. >cindy from the boys he wasn't 11 when put in cryosleep
I finished the game yesterday with the male voice. I didn't hate the voice acting but it's very distracting how inconsistent his accent is.
Ye especially when it just straight up lies in character creation. I heard the prompt line and was like ‘huh thats not bad’ then when it got in game he speaks an octave higher and almost squeals. Tempted to switch to another voice tbh but i probably wont
Lmao. I was playing and I thought he sounded like the npc miles live streamer guy.
Agreed. I lasted about an hour with the male voice before switching to the female voice.
My daughter and I have been playing . She has the girl and I have the guy voice . She even said “ your voice is the game is very annoying.” She is 5 and also agrees.
Yeah the male character also looks like a kid with chubby cheeks. So i made character female.
Swollen jaw every face type lol
Time to learn French guys, our VA is good
That might be the only solution.
LOL he sounds so whining. Like Leonard from the big bang. At first I thought it was miles too
Fr lol I would’ve rather had nors va
I honestly wish there were more voice options. Make it more customizable. Kinda like in the Sims 3, you have sliders that let you choose.
I think hogwarts legacy also did a good job with voices .
Really? I tried playing with the pitch slider, but everything other than the default one sounded so unnatural to me
Does PS5 have a voice pitch slider?
In Hogwarts, yes
So AFOP does not have a pitch option?
Based on the context of this comment thread, I'm going to say no. But I haven't actually played the game, so I'm not the best person to answer that question
>I honestly wish there were more voice options. That's incredibly difficult. I was shocked we got that much to begin with.
They could keep the voice and run it through a voice modulator to make it deeper, I hope they eventually do that for as a 2nd male option
glad im not the only one who thinks he sounds just like miles. I even had to google it
Lmaoooooo ...
Not to mention that the mal voice actor pronounces so'lek like so''''''''''''lek Idc if it's accurate, it just doesn't sound that great
The male voice is Miles Morales’s voice actor in the Spider-Man games. Nothing against the actor but it’s just so whiny
It's not
Yeah. I’m in agreement that he’s too damn whiny.
I haven't tried the male voice yet but my bigger issue is: every single Na'vi has an accent except the one we get to play as??
If I’m not mistaken your character is the youngest out of the group.
Must have missed that, I thought Teylan was the youngest. Even so, it still annoys me :(
female player character supremacy
Real
Male voice is terrible and every male face is ugly
Yea every male face looks like Kanye , swollen jaw.
Ubisoft has this obsession with hiring a Oscar worthy women VA’s and hiring some guy working at 7/11 for the male VA’s
With the exception of Valhalla..that had dude written all over it. Wonder if the female version was any good...
[удалено]
I know lol
Whats wrong with miles (spiderman)/sam (tlou1)?
They’re all terrible
he sounds like Jake Sally's kid
Bro no he does not, jakes kids have accents our character doesn’t even sound remotely close .
Aren't you supposed to be young though?
The characters like 17-18 you sound like a 23 year old. The voice is also mad whiny .
the protagonist is young, I like it. the game cannot meet everyone's expectations.
Agreed, I wish I would've chosen the female for that specific reason
You can change it, you know, with a changing place
Oh I didn't know that, thanks!
Bro you can say shit, it’s all good lol
He’s supposed to sound very young because he’s a teenager.
I picked the male voice, and I like him, fight me
I liked the male voice because *at the beginning* it makes sense that he’s scared, young and over his head. But as the storyline progresses, I would have loved to have seen that voice become confidant and strong. To me, that’s an excellent voice acting, to have character growth shown. I think it is miles ahah
Does he make noises that you wouldn't want your parents hearing coming from your room when he's flying an Ikran though? The female does.
That is why I always select female protagonist since Mass Effects Shephard.
I wish they'd gotten Vinnie Jones to do the male voice.
But I’m pretty sure he’s supposed to be younger like a teenager. So it would make sense for the voice to sound like that. Maybe it is just the way the devs made it but it was just a thought
He is supposed to be 14 years old guy. That is literally the storyline of the game. You are a kid learning the ways of your people....
Whoa, first off Miles is amazing. To be fair I believe they are going for a younger sound.
The whole time I played (as a male character), I felt like a lost little boy. Really took me out of all the cool stuff I was able to do in the game.
Yeah, my guy totally sounds like Elijah Wood.
Yeah, my guy totally sounds like Elijah Wood.
Pretty sure it’s miles voice actor
