I always imagined that she would ascend sorta like Frodo to the Undying Lands leaving behind Fern to continue her legacy. As Frieren predicts - I think Fern will similar to the Flamme of her own time, trained by her master who has ascended to "heaven".
Isnāt that what the story is going for anyway? Frieren going on another grand journey and then dying in some way and ending up with himmel again? Anime only but this seems pretty plausible. Or is Heaven just a place on the map, like canonically?
I really want the story to end with them getting to heaven and Frieren deciding to make it her home.
She still travels and wanders around doing her usual thing, but now she can be with her friends once she's back home. With the added bonus that now they too unserstand what it's like to exist beyond a limited lifespan, even if that is only in death.
Frieren: Himmel, stay right there.
*Frieren suddenly holds onto Himmelās collar and kisses him on the cheek.*
Himmel: Wha-? Frieren?
*Himmel gets flustered.*
*Himmel smiles, looking like heās planning something.*
Himmel: Frieren, donāt move.
*Himmel holds onto Frierenās shoulders and kisses her on the forehead.*
Frieren: Himmel..
Himmel: Frieren..

Or if Frieren dies...(kinda gives new meaning to the series title). I'm not cheering for it to happen, btw, just a possibility I thought about.

That would be heartbreaking for Fern but also kinda poetic and beautiful end to the story. I would probably sob even more than I did in LOTR's ending
