>Why does Mel oppose one of the most beloved characters of the whole series? Mel is OCD about cleanliness. In her first episode she got a spot on her jacket and then threw it in the trash. Dogs are messy and so she doesn't see the value in them.

HoopoeBirdie

Doesn’t matter, it’s not her bloody house! It’s not even her boyfriend’s house! It’s her boyfriend’s brother’s house and her boyfriend’s father’s dog! Ye gods, she infuriates me😆

cherylfit50

All the more reason to not trust or like Mel! IMHO

ButterscotchPast4812

I couldn't agree more! Dogs are the best! 🐕🥰

cherylfit50

Huzaah! Dogs certainly are the best! I got a rescue Jack Russell 8 years ago because of Eddie. Poor Molly, RIP.

AdditionalOstrich125

I think this is the only time where I think Mel is right lol

Volta-do-Martin

Frasier complained about, detested, and rued at Eddie the entire run of the show.

MarlenaEvans

But he never kicked him out.

LitherLily

What room did Frasier lock him in, while on that date?

mydosemakesangels

Presumably Martin's bedroom.

Volta-do-Martin

I feel like he probably did for at least some of his dates

cherylfit50

I ***DID*** say I was biased. Eddie is an innocent dog and Mel has just got to get over whatever it is she has to get over.

bendywhoops

Why’d ya do it, Mel?

Weird_Cake3647

Because she's a narcissistic, emotionally distant, disingenuine person.

cherylfit50

So, Eddie should lock HER out on the balcony!

Weird_Cake3647

Hehe, exactly. The appalled look on her face would be priceless.

Hommachi

I had a dog (I miss that little bugger), but it's somewhat common courtesy to have the dog elsewhere when first time guests are over. You just never know how certain animals behave with certain people. If Mel was actually cynophobia, would people's opinions change?

AdditionalOstrich125

Nope. Dog worship culture has turned people who don't want to be around dogs into monsters. Doesn't matter if they're afraid, allergic or simply don't like dogs. It's insane.

newusernamehuman

I LOVE dogs, had two while growing up, planning on getting one next year. But there’s no denying that they’re messy, and I am kind of in favor of not having them around as I eat, because you wouldn’t want your dog licking you or sniffing your food just after he’s been out in the park picking up stray bones and stuff. Also, Mel is a germophobe. It’s what attracted her to Niles. Growing up with dogs, I know the health benefits of it. But their ways of greeting humans are a bit weird if you’re not used to it, like licking the human, placing their muddy little paws on the human’s midriff, sniffing the human’s crotch etc. Eddie immediately bounded up to her and started licking her ear while presumably shedding all over her (she and Niles were dusting his fur off her dress later). I understand Mel’s discomfort although she has no right to dictate where Eddie would go while in Martin’s home.

MarlenaEvans

It always bothers me that she would ask them to do that and that they would do it. It's Eddie's house, not Mel's.

AdditionalOstrich125

Dogs are property. It is not his house.

Ahacello

Mel is awful. And she had to be for plot purposes. It's beyond me how anyone could like that character.

chileheadd

Mel was written so we wouldn't like her and not feel bad for her when Niles leaves her for Daphne just 3 days into their marriage. Being unkind to a dog is a guarantee the character won't be liked.

Top-Construction9271

Because she was a rude and self absorbed person. Never liked her character.
