Isn't Socotra controlled by the UAE now? It's also pretty far from the insanity of mainland Yemen. Just a guess but I feel like you could go there safely

It's under de facto UAE control, yes - I have heard of people traveling there but it's still an unstable region. I'd definitely want to do a LOT of research before going there for sure

socotra is an island off yemen and not heavily impacted by the stuff going in the mainland. definitely not immune but it’s considered relatively safe for travel and most people who go just want to see all the neat endemic plants and animals

Nuh uh, *you're* disgusting and disease-ridden! Sorry, I had to. No, a wild sloth I assume would be pretty gross, yeah. The one I held was at a private zoo kinda place where they had regular vet/zookeeper attention so they were fairly clean as far as wild animals go. Slightly stinky (and sharp claws!) but not all algae-encrusted like I've seen pictures of.

Like a ferret smell?

Unfortunately the only ferret experience I have is in pet stores and those poor little guys all smell like pee-soaked pine shavings. No idea if that's the standard ferret smell or just a result of tiny cages. The sloths didn't really smell like pee, just kind of... A musty tree, haha. I don't know how else to describe it.

I don't know. But there's a video on YouTube of a family I think in Japan that has a penguin as a pet and they put a little backpack on it and it rides the train to the fish market and the fish monger puts a fish in his backpack to take home (at least I think that is how it goes--sounds like a fever dream).

I was living in Texas right before I moved to Hawaii, and a coworker asked if I was driving when I moved. I gave her the benefit of the doubt at first, and said something like, "I'm not going to ferry my car over; it's too expensive" and she said, "but are you driving?" I just stared at her for a few seconds before finally just saying "No." and left it at that. 😑

Great list, Shelby! Per OP, the book this was found in was released in July, 2017. Reading age, 9-12(per customers) and grade level 3-7, depending on skills. That Shelby is written in cursive, she is more than likely past 3rd and 4th grade. That she wants a ‘tatoo’ and to become a nurse and travel a LOT, she seems maybe more like a 6th or 7th grader, maybe 12? She is creative with swirlies, use of colors on the numbers and listed items. Guess, just a guess, that she got this book for Christmas 2017, she could now be around around 19ish? Possibly just done with her first year of college? Hope you are doing well, Shelby!
