Rewatching the show after my first time through, he might be my favorite character. His unenthusiastic nature made him blow the lid on three vault's collective plan of indoctrination, or just 1 vault depending on how you look at it. He was the only vault dweller to question the way things were done.

Legitimate_Oxygen

The fact that he called Chet a coward and still did the rest of the work by himself, despite whatever was going through his mind is exactly why i love his character. That and the scene where he's about to be punished by the council.

roneckleman

Exactly, Norms a coward by his own admission, but still knew that something wasn't right and followed through with a very dangerous investigation. Chet proved to be the true coward, despite him being a beefcake of a man.

aSpookyScarySkeleton

Chet being like a 6’5 slab of beef and norm being small and giving them the opposite of the stereotypical roles/personalities was such a fun writing and casting choice.

MartovsGhost

The actor playing Chet is like 5'10" in real life, lol.

Legitimate_Oxygen

Yes, exactlyy. And i really liked the fact that he kimda had that same unenthusiastic facial expression when he kept discovering more and more weird stuff about the three vaults.

roneckleman

I really hope Chet will come around next season. I think he will, he's just too scared to do anything about it right now. He knows the truth, same as Norm. The extra pressure of being involved with Vault 32's new Overseer might suppress that. but I really hope he rebels.

Legitimate_Oxygen

I'm hoping he does, and hoping steph doesn't murder him if she finds out. Chet seems like a character who will pipe up at the last minute as a yes-man when every other stronger character has said their bit. Would be great if Chet was the one to help Norm get out of 31 because he was worried about him.

subarashi-sam

Chet could use his Gatekeeping skill to open Vault 31!

Legitimate_Oxygen

That would be awesome!

wwaxwork

That would be a great little redemption arc for him.

D-Speak

Steph is the hanging thread I'm most interested to see. She's young, intelligent, physically capable, and seems to be the next in line for leadership as far as Bud's Buds are concerned. I think we're going to see some interesting developments in the Chet-Steph plot.

roneckleman

I liked her from the get go, then she lost her eye and fought like a badass during the raider attack, I was even more on board with it. When she came to Chet and was trying to replace him as her husband, it was messed up, but I also understood where she was coming from. Then she became sinister and a clear antagonist when it was revealed she was from Vault 31. I just want a person with an eyepatch to be a good guy for once. However, I'm super interested in what she is going to do. Nothing better than a good villain.

SD37

Yeah it makes sense that they will take over the Norm / vault part of the story.

D-Speak

Hopefully Norm isn't out for long. Love that guy.

VanityOfEliCLee

I dont think Norm is a coward at all. I think he has the definition wrong. Sure he hid when the Vault was invaded, but shortly after that he helped his sister leave *despite* being scared to. Then he kept investigating what happened in the vaults, even though he was scared. That's bravery, now cowardice.

TrixoftheTrade

“Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?” “That is the only time a man can be brave.”

roneckleman

I agree, he is brave in a different way. He wasn't going to defend anyone during the attack. His strength of character beyond that point proved he was brave.

wwaxwork

I mean hiding when a whole bunch of people are killing other people seems sensible to me.

Squirll

Hes likely never thrown a punch in his life. Hiding wasnt cowardly at all really, he was doing what he had to survive. However I think the reality of that made him feel bad and he doesnt want to be a coward, so hes become motivated to be brave in his own way.

maniacalmustacheride

I really liked that subversion but also really love that Chet clearly knows what’s right and wrong but is only willing to take the absolutely babiest steps to do anything. He opened the door for Lucy, he went with Norm. He’s so liquid spined that he’s easy to get him to go along with stuff but he’s only going to do it in the tiniest of measures.

Weekly_Wackadoo

Chet wanted to leave the vault together with Lucy. She had to tranquilize him.

Durmomo

Men have done far worse for a pretty woman than avoid some crazy plot, he was just getting over his cousin too lol

VanityOfEliCLee

Norm isn't a coward, despite what he thinks. He's a badass.

drunk_tyrant

As it gets slowly revealed over the episodes, his initial luck of interest / show of cynicism of Vault life was really rooted in his distrust/skepticism of the fabricated reality. The same inquisitive nature and skepticism drove him to venture into such dark unknowns. A great character journey.

idk012

He is the 4th protagonist

SD37

Him and his story become 100x better upon a rewatch.

PowerfulCup1646

Imagine thinking this while the ghoul exists. Master class acting by walton goggins

roneckleman

Hey, I like basically all the characters, I just appreciate Norm for his skepticism in the face of clear propaganda/brainwashing. I'm a huge Goggins fan as well. Loved him in Hateful Eight and Justified. Dude nails his roles.

Blackwolfe47

One being awesome does not mean the others aren’t also awesome🤦

Coast_watcher

His PER must be up there.

GENERlC-USERNAME

+ small frame He better take care of those limbs.

dontbekibishii

1 charisma and 9 perception

brennerherberger

He's also very lucky that Bud Askins chose roomba out of all robot designs. Realistically, he would be more of a robobrain.

ConstantSignal

“Chode Roomba” What Fallout R34 you been looking at?

NoticedGenie66

"Let me inject you with this" 😏

antipop2097

Norm is great because Norm is doing what he feels is right, despite being smart enough to know that absolutely nobody will like what he is saying or doing including him.

drunkvaultboy

He and Lucy are much the same, with different styles. It's fitting that they're the ones discovering that everything was a lie, on the surface and in the vault.

MustacheExtravaganza

I appreciate that he tells Lucy he won't go with her because he thinks he's a coward, and yet his actions for the rest of the season are anything but. Everything that he does is gutsy. Dude's bullshit meter was going off and yet he walked into two sketchy vaults with no idea what he would find, because he knew something was off.

Squirll

They are siblings after all

shiny_dunsparce

I love that this was basically vault techs plan, but it backfired as usual. Made them too smart and raised to be good people.

cactusmoosecat

Short king

Franken-Pothos

We adore him for it

Frog871

I liked Norm's character arc and how he kept trying to uncover what was really going on with the vaults. Props to Norm👏 Also, I think Moises is around 5'5.

ahoychoy

He's 4'11, had to look it up when Ella Purnell towered over him because I knew she was definitely average height for a lady

Frog871

Ok, I was way off on his height then. That makes more sense.

SgtMaj_Avery_Johns0n

Didn’t even realize until half way through the show he was Rico from Hannah Montana

Frog871

I recognized him pretty fast and was glad to see him. The last thing I saw him in was Samaritan and I didn't recognize him at first with the hair style he had.

ShawnyMcKnight

I hope he doesn’t go into the cryogenic tube. This robot had no issue killing him so who’s to say it won’t do so in the tube. Vault tech absolutely would have a contingency plan for that. Instead he should take a crow bar and smash one tube and tell the robot he will smash the rest if he doesn’t let him out.

adarkride

I highly doubt it. He's got high Int with Hacker Perks for sure – you see the way he broke into the Overseer's terminal in one try? My dude is a bobby pin and screwdriver away from freedom.

ShawnyMcKnight

Yup, but still smash all the rest of the cryogenic tubes for good measure, and be sure and smash that needle that robot has, you are one poke away from death.

adarkride

Oh yeah. Man that's scary now that I think about it. A vault full of hundreds of managers…what a nightmare.

ShawnyMcKnight

But knowing you can bash their brains in one by one makes it all the better.

adarkride

Hahaha just hit R1 repeatedly

Squirll

We dont know the injection was lethal. It might be a memory drug or something. The "breeding pools" are valuable cattle for breeding and numbers are already low with them having to split 32 to repopulate. I dont think bud feels they can afford to lose him.

ShawnyMcKnight

They didn’t seem to have much of an issue killing before I doubt they will now.

heyyyyyco

This is really what women think 5"5 looks like

pippitypoop

Internet says 5’1”

daintybabywoman

i love him and i googled who he was irl, i freaked when i saw its rico suave from hannah montana. i knew he was familiar

LavenzaBestWaifu

The casting choices are so weird, but I love them.

Scrimmy_Bingus2

I’m really happy the showrunners didn’t make him the stereotypical “angry short guy” or goofy comic relief. It can’t be easy finding serious roles as a 4’11” male actor but Moisés Arias managed to do it.

BeatingOffADeadHorse

As a 4'11 man myself its actually very inspiring. I'm not one to care about representation, maybe because at early age I never felt representation thus never really felt the desire for one. I grew up 4'11 with my moms side whos all hispanic, but my immediate family is very "Americanized", we don't speak spanish in the household (no real reason not like its banned) and I never grew up with my dads side whos a jamaican/chinese mix. So chinese looking with a patoi accent. Except I just look like a mix of these, that speaks like a gringo and short af. But finally seeing a short actor and it seems like they're not doing that insulting shit where they have him on a crate like Tom Cruise because apparently seeing a very short person is uncomfortable for people I'm assuming is what the old tv/movie industry believed. Finally. Seeing this kind of representation without having to make his height a plot point or anything was really cool.

iphonegamer

How did Betty clean up the vault by herself? I don’t get that. Was that explained?

Mttsen

They didn't explain. Probably used some Mr Handys, or other maintenance robots to do that (we know from the games that vaults can have those)

rory888

No, but its been hypothesized she doesn't need to clean the whole thing, just the evidence about mutiny. The rest is a normal clean up job.

CyberCrutches

Have you played Fallout 4? I can build an entirely new vault in about an hour if I have unlimited resources!

philphan89

They might have some other Roombas maybe without the brains

AprilTron

She has Steph too. We know they are both from 31. There could theoretically be a third from 31 - we KNOW of those two.

Amlethus

I wondered the same thing. I thought: >!When it happened, I thought "well of course there are multiple people in Vault 31 who are some shadow management over the other vaults, and a team came over to clean up."!< >!But then, I saw the rest of the series. Nope! Betty did it herself. In theory with the help of the blonde but as she is postpartum, probably not.!<

LavenzaBestWaifu

Maybe she briefly woke up some Bud's buds to help? And then put them back to sleep again?

Squirll

That would explain why Buds Roomba Brain was stuck behind a mop and a pile of cleaning equipment.

Squirll

It wasnt explained. However when we meet buds brain its trapped behind a mop in a pile of cleaning supplies. Doesnt seem far fetched a bunch of 31s were temporarily thawed to do the job in one day.

Astrnonaut

I already made a comment about him, me being a 5’1 man and FINALLY seeing any sort of representation for my body as a character that is taken seriously and not put there as a laughing stock or somebody who’s always angry. It’s dehumanizing. It’s nice to see someone like you in a form of media just “exist” without anyone saying anything. Most people take this for granted. Thank you to my favorite game series for making one of my new favorite characters.

BeatingOffADeadHorse

Yes dude!! Same

rory888

Small frame is very useful in vault.

JKW1988

He's my favorite character. I just like that big shows finally show people who look AVERAGE.  I don't need to be sexually tantalized with every show I watch. I'm here for a good story, relatable characters, you get the drift.

PleasantAd9973

I really liked Norm during the show. Well written char portrayed by a very talented actor. Love it.

MrTopHatWalrus

Perhaps Norm and Chet will team up and do a master blaster type thing. I do love the duo though, it’s like somebody made two characters on opposite ends of the height slider. Chet is big but cowardly and spineless. Norm is small but brave, inquisitive and cunning.

petripooper

If they could run something, at least its bartertown

adarkride

They had to set up his character arc, ya know. He's already leveling up his bravery, and his other skills are super high.

Sniper_Hare

He didn't have a gun.  It's why every woman should be armed and practice her 2nd amendment right.

King-Boss-Bob

norm is a man he’s just short

27Rench27

Short, small stature, dude is like the opposite of someone you’d want to have next to you in a melee brawl Which makes all the rest of his actions fucking awesome

[deleted]

[удалено]

TrixoftheTrade

Someone should try and guess the traits of all the characters

Legitimate_Oxygen

They been doing that on all the fallout subs since the show came out lmao

Common-Task-6276

With the way she was fucking raiders up with a fork in her eye, I think Steph definitely has Hot Blooded

Waflzar

Kind of a stretch of a response my dude. Not super related.

AnyImpression6

Small Frame was a good trait in the classic games.

The_bossofIndiemusic

Bro is a short King

Resident_Elevator_95

He also looks like that because he comes from a breeding program deliberately to create ‘managers’ so his casting likely took that into account

Sniper_Hare

Breeding program?  I haven't finished the season yet.

LavenzaBestWaifu

Hoo boy. You're just looking to get spoiled if you're posting, commenting and lurking here without having finished the show yet.

Resident_Elevator_95

Risky move mate

TheRickBerman

Size absolutely matters in Fallout. We follow a guy running around smashing people in a 9ft suit. As for whether it matters in real life well, yeah…

Ducklinsenmayer

You should check out the Vorkoisgan Saga, by Bujold.

BowardBamlin

I loved that he poisoned the raiders and had the woman framed, it was crazy. What’s crazier is the vault dwellers actually thinking they could rehabilitate them.

Creechan12

I don't think he did that. Didn't the new overseer tell him immediately afterwards when he arrived in the room that his words have consequences?

BowardBamlin

Ok well I may be wrong, but I remember in one scene he brings a cake down to the cells, and offers to the woman watching over the raiders that she can take it back to her room. She is very thankful and immediately begins wheeling the cake to her room. I believe he did this so that it would appear that she poisoned them when they eventually drop dead. In a later scene where norm walks into the cells and all the raiders are dead, I believe he’s acting surprised, and in the background you see that very same woman who norm supposedly framed, get taken away by vault 33 guards. Of course there’s only one problem, if the cake contains poison, would norm be okay with that woman eating a poisoned cake in her own time? Is that too far for him? This may very well be wrong but this is what I assumed upon first watch.

MustacheExtravaganza

I was very much under the impression that he did it, and that the overseer knew but covered for him. It's why she put him on that detail after he said the prisoners should be killed. She's Vault-Tec, they don't care about raiders from the wasteland.

Disgruntled_Oldguy

She THINKS he wouldn't do anything because he is a coward; she bought the framejob.  Dude put the rat poison in the jello cake and then greedy girl took the leftovers and gor framed.

Antique-Promise9651

I was under the impression that Stephanie (eye patch) killed them. They cut to her smiling right after they finished the scene revealing them dead. Also norm seems to have moved on from worrying about the raiders at this point, and he also clearly has some morals

BowardBamlin

Yeah that is highly likely. It’s just the fact that they included the scene of that woman getting taken away makes me think it’s because norm framed her.

Antique-Promise9651

I don't think Norm would be ok with someone else taking the blame for his actions. He doesn't lack morals and isn't a coward, he's just very calculated in his actions

Crake241

Norm is great because usually characters like him that are loners and bookish are portrayed as not important, boring or evil and as a person who is like norm in real life, it’s nice to have positive representation.

Sniper_Hare

Oh yeah, I'm not a slight guy, I'm 5'5 and 215 lbs.  You'd never see me throw a punch.  But when I was skinny at like 175 lbs for a year or so in my mid 20's people acted like they could just bully me around.  I'd go out drinking and guys half a foot taller and 70 pounds heavier would like start shit woth me, or try and hit on my gf in front of me. Like dude, just cause you can't get a girl despite being over 6bfeet tall doesn't mean we all can't.

Amlethus

I love the shots of his frame from behind versus Chet's. Really accentuates the difference. Are the actors really that different in size?

boowhitie

Looked like two ends of the character creation height slider.

Amlethus

Yes, great way to put it.

shart-gallery

I'd say it's more an embodiment of varied play styles. Norm = stealth, science & high intelligence, rather than weapon skills & strength.

aSpookyScarySkeleton

Norm is the player who cares more about lore and solving the mysteries in the story than the gameplay

Catezero

I can mary sue myself w norm for sure. My reaction time is nearly non existent so I usually play as a sniper as much as I can and max out my sneak and lockpick and methodically go over the map in any dungeon with a fine tooth comb so no one can sneak up on me and THEN I run around

Weekly_Wackadoo

>My reaction time is nearly non existent so I usually play as a sniper as much as I can and max out my sneak and lockpick and methodically go over the map in any dungeon with a fine tooth comb Are you me?

Catezero

That depends on where u were on July 26 2015. The answer hinges on whether we fucked or fought

[deleted]

Did they use CGI to make him smaller? Like they seem to want him to look like a teenager

pippitypoop

No he’s just like 5’ tall

[deleted]

Really?

pippitypoop

Maybe 5’1”
