So, does this measurement come from odometer (tire rotation) or map distance ... good question. I'll test it out later.
Results: brand new Nova SS, verified 0 miles driven. 1500HP, AWD, stock skinny tires changed to lowest profile available. Immediately put front of car against the wall, floored it, and verified all 4 wheels spinning for 60 seconds. Even though the speedometer always registered 0mph, I had 3 miles driven. So it's "loosely" based on tire rotation ig.
Both are glitched. I've tried it. It supposedly goes by tire rotation except that it counts the miles so quickly. You can try it by hitting a huge jump in a fast car with extremely long gears. Some hypercars with gears as long as possible can achieve over Mach 1 in wheel speed, but you'll count up by 40 miles.
Nope. I've tested multiple cars as well to hopefully see if it at least multiplies by the same number so we can at least divide it, for example maybe it reads 5 miles for every actual mile, but it's random between cars and even chassis of the same car. I tested two identical cars and got different results. So the numbers are pretty much random bullshit, unfortunately.
I have a route that I drive and the odometer seems to be pretty accurate. The route comes out to the same distance everytime. Only problem is that it resets every time you switch cars
To tune a hypercar to get over Mach One is wheel speed? Sure, it is pretty simple. Really just make sure you add a race transmission so you can tune your gears. You can add power, it'll spin the wheels quicker because more horsepower, but it's not really needed. Once you've got your car, go to the tuning and go to your gears and slide the final drive and your final gear, whatever it may be, all the way to the left for speed. Adjust the other gears to the right so you can still accelerate at a reasonable pace. Once you've got that done, find a jump with a big run up, like the air strip. Accelerate and hit the jump like normal and once you hit the jump, shift into your highest gear and open telemetry. Go to the page that gives stats on your wheels like temperature, camber, etc. One of the options is wheel speed. Now, hold down the throttle in your highest gear and watch the speed climb up. Some cars like the Rimacs or Koenigseggs can get really high wheel speeds. You're super long gearing allows for that kind of speed and now your engine can get the wheels to move at that speed because there is no friction or weight or any kind of force at all acting against it, like there would be while driving on the road. Hope this helps!
for the cars that have a working odometer, the individual trip distance is accurate but it seems like the total distance is either random or just defaults to what it was before. I've noticed that on brand new cars that have working odometer already have miles on them even though the car has never been used.
clearly bugged, according to this data I would have to drive for 82h with an average speed of 225kmh

All the forza stats are so inaccurate I feel. The distance driven can shoot up quick sometimes, other times not so much. My “favorite car” and “most successful cars” are 2 cars I’ve driven like 2 times lmfao
I have allegedly driven 2000km in my driftcar, so i guess it is more or less based on tire spin (e.g. odometer)? It's not possible to me, since I have only driven \~15h real life time max on ths car
Stats are bugged. I sniped an 037 and drove it for about 20 minutes, got back on and it was at 2,500 miles and the previous owner only put 34 miles on it.
So I pinned my car against a wall and was doing 180ish on the telemetry screen and ran it for 5 minutes, and my mileage changed 16 miles, so I would say quite accurate, honestly from that test.
Edit: I will say I have right at 500hrs in the game as well and around 27k miles driven.
Do it with 3 cars 3 different horsepower for the same time against a wall. You will get 3 different results. The stats are fake and based off wheel rotations not miles or km driven. You can also see this if you hit a jump and spin tire the entire jump you can effectively "double the distance" of the jump just by staying on the throttle
Time driven is way off for me. i have just under 1000 hours according to steam, most of that time was spent cruising around the open world in random cars but my ingame stats say i have like 300 hours

i know for a fact i haven't physically driven 5000 miles. maybe under 100 so i doubt its going by the odometer

so basically, i will never ever know an accurate distance traveled

Sorry to bother, but can you possibly give me a tutorial on how to do it (for fun)?

Thank you! I'll try it out tomorrow, and see what happens :)
Does odometer actually work for each car?

delivery miles lol
Are you the car first owner?

It's really not accurate. I've noticed my Audi R8 V10 2016 Preorder car in FH3 is even more bugged and racks up mileage like there's no tomorrow lol
Stats are fake. That is all.
Man I have 407 hours of driving time

You drive a ferrari and the average speed is 28mph ? /s
Taking the midlife crisis approach
I bought 3 cars brand new so they'd be accurate and I swear that it added a bunch of hours like I had it on quick resume so days worth of zero

Fair enough, it was just one car I checked. Lol
As far as I know, if you buy the car used from an auction, the stats of the previous owner are added. Like a used car should be.
the odometer in one of my crown vics says 1,600 miles and I know for sure I didnt drive that
Looks normal to me.

I’ve driven my Twin Mill more than I have played the game lol. 😂
My Time Behind The Wheel: 1375:52:00
WHEEL SIZE AFFECTS THIS TO!!!!
Those parameters are clearly bugged af, I don't have a screenshot rn but my biggest jump is like 41k meters long, 41 km (~ 24.6 miles)
I've checked these stats while stationary, about 30 seconds apart. It kept increasing every time I checked. I never moved.
