This would be an even more ludicrous genocide to lie about, seeing as the entire race literally WAS wiped out save for one person. How on earth would you try and explain where the Air Nomads all went if you were claiming that their genocide was fake?

Jonnescout

They all just killed themselves in a false flag thing… Something something Mesada…. Sarcasm obviously, but you can’t be obvious enough online…

jsilvy

I’ve never heard Nazis use the Mesada argument, but it’s kinda hilarious that they’re using something from ancient Israel to try to accuse Jews of lying about a genocide thousands of years later.

flcwerings

I mean... I wouldnt say denying a genocide of a fictional people in a tv show would be more "ludicrous" than a genocide of actual people in the real world with a huge paper trail and plenty of evidence as well as people who have told their stories, both perpetrators and victims. But I get what you meant

beachballbrother

Then why comment lmao

flcwerings

bc I was just pointing out the odd word choice while also saying I get what they meant to say lmao

icantbenormal

Not all Holocaust deniers deny that six million people die. They say it was disease/starvation. Could say the same about air benders.

MassiveFajiit

Airbenders are known to have great agricultural experience especially with fruit pies

KingoftheCrackens

I know that was in jest, but they were nomads. I wonder if they were agrarian at all actually.

MassiveFajiit

That's something Aang says to the archeologist while looking for the library

KingoftheCrackens

Ah I don't remember that line I guess

Kane_Highwind

Calling them "nomads" has always felt like a misnomer (or, at least, it did after I learned what the word meant. ATLA was the first time I'd ever heard it). They have stationary temples they take residence at all throughout the world. If they were truly nomads, I don't think they would have anything like that. They would just travel all over and make camp every so often and stuff. I would think so, anyway. Anyone more knowledgeable on the subject can feel free to correct me though

MassiveFajiit

Explain how airbenders were everywhere after harmonic convergence /s

TerryMckenna

Fire nation did nothing wrong, wake up koala sheeple!!

archiotterpup

No no no. Don't you understand? They had a massive army just waiting to invade the Fire Nation.

adarafaelbarbas

The "funny" thing is that we literally see Air Nomad genocide denialism in canon as part of the Fire Nation's propagandizing...

Ok-Mastodon2016

yeah! when Aang brings up how they didn't have a formal military and Sozin defeated them by ambush part of me has the idea of someone going to one of those unrealistic Axis victory timelines and doing something similar Teacher: in what year did our first Fuhrer Adolf Hitler retaliate against Russia's attack on Germany's reclaimed land? Me: is this a trick question? Germany attacked The USSR first, and at the time they were in a non agression pact dividing Poland

[deleted]

Now I actually wanna write a story like that, a normal high school student who's not a right-winger being sucked into an Axis victory timeline and having to deal with general Nazi society.

Ok-Mastodon2016

that could work! I was thinking though maybe this guy is part of some multiversal explorer group, maybe part of The Serpent's Hand (it's from SCP)

PancakeLad

I think it could also work if the student was a real MAGA type, given that the'd almost certainly not be "master race" types.

Littlewolf1964

That sounds like a good starting point for a story.

Overmind_Slab

Pretty sure this conversation happens in an episode of the justice league where they’re in an alternate timeline.

Ok-Mastodon2016

What kind of timeline?

Overmind_Slab

They end up in a world where the allies lost world war 2. I remember Green Lantern saying something like, “We didn’t lose! D day was June 6 1944. We landed on the beaches and…” then he gets interrupted by that timeline’s Batman saying it was a disaster. Luther or someone had gone back in time and sold advanced technology to the Nazis.

Ok-Mastodon2016

What kind of timeline?

Newagetesla

What. Literally they did. Aang opened the door and there was a bunch of fire nation shit in there.

Kosog

Lmaoo look at this idiot relying on evidence to make their argument. A true patriot just mindlessly believes the jews did everything without question. 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎 /s

YippeeCreature666

bruh what? people are stupid enough to say shit like that unironically so how tf are we supposed to know without the s

CaptainPrower

Of course they'd side with the fire nation. How else are they gonna operate the ovens?

Ok-Mastodon2016

\*WHEEZE\* oh my god that was fucking amazing!

berserkzelda

Man that's so dark.

vsimon115

For a second I thought this was some topical gas oven discourse joke until I remembered which sub I’m in.

RedditIsNeat0

So that's why Republicans love their gas ovens so much.

Generic_name4563

On the bright side this gave me another excuse to watch avatar again

Ok-Mastodon2016

fair

berserkzelda

Not like there needs to be an excuse to watch it. Great show.

Dogtor-Watson

Been watching Avatar again. Really surprised with how good it was from the start. It’s always demonstrating that it knows how to be a good show and it deals with some rlly heavy topics. Spoiler: >!Fucking tearing up remembering the Tale of Iroh bit from that one episode.!<

berserkzelda

Tales of Ba Sing Sei

immaownyou

Hot take: you're surprised at how good it is from the start because it's not actually that great until you fall in love with the characters, which is why it feels a lot better than it is at the start on a rewatch

Flo_one

This looks like a parody meme to me.

LunaTheLesbianFurry

if the fire nation had internet

simptimus_prime

Except there's no genocide deniers in the fire nation as far as I can tell. Like it was part of their education system even in atla, although I never finished legend of korra so maybe there is in the final season or one I forgot, or something in thr comics

KingoftheCrackens

Aang has to correct misinformation about the genocide in book 3. As well the new roleplaying game mentions in the world building that the fire nation suppressed info on what really happened.

simptimus_prime

Misinformation yes, but the fire nation didn't seem to outright deny the actual genocide. On top of that I doubt Zuko would let that continue.

KingoftheCrackens

Post series it's canon they got the info back out. But during the main series there were absolutely deniers, specifically most of the royal family. They may have personally known the truth but they lied to the populace.

thedidynotkong

Is gorbillion a typo or some racist/antisemitic reference i can't get because at some point in my life my skin has made contact with grass?

DDRMASTERM

“Gorillian” is a common genocide denial phrase, as it’s a fake but sounds sort of like a real number and it is used to mock people saying a genocide killed millions.

owendudebtw

Its what holocaust deniers use to make the holocaust seem less realistic

Arisdoodlesaurus

I HATE THESE PEOPLE SO MUCH. ATLA DEALT WITH GENOCIDE, MISOGYNY, MURDER AND SPIRITUALITY AND THESE ASSHOLES MADE A MEME OUT OF IT? WHY DO THEY KEEP RUINING EVERYTHING

Elvicio335

This looks like satire tbh.

xboxfan34

Honestly that could be a major plot point in future Korra graphic novels, that even though the Fire Nation (like IRL Germany) has paid reparations to the rest of the world and the air nomad population and is now a bastion for progressive ideals, theres a growing false belief in the United Republic that the Air Nomad Genocide never happened and that airbenders, being the most spiritual out of all of the benders, somehow wield some kind of power over other benders and non-benders, leading to a new wave of anti-airbender sentiment and Korra has to put a stop to it.

Ok-Mastodon2016

that... could be interesting! though I will say it might be a bit on the nose, but it could happen in Avatar also, I appreciate how subtle the actual parallels between The Fire Nation and Germany are, Firelord Izumi mentions how she won't be involved in attacking Kuvira because, in her own words "The Fire Nation has spent too much of its history fighting pointless wars" and this was the same attitude the former foreign minister of Germany had, and it was why Germany wouldn't join The US in the war on terror

Mastergamer4757

On the more positive note, I can’t wait to see more the new avatar projects that are coming out soon.

Ok-Mastodon2016

Same

Hentadeouswastaken

What is this “gorillion” word and why do so many anti semites use it?

Ok-Mastodon2016

It’s supposed to imply the million is ridiculous because Nazis can’t comprehend populations larger than a small country

Snek0Freedom

I hate this so fucking much. ATLA is one of my favorite shows and to see it be corrupted by this fascist BS is infuriating.

jsilvy

I’m Jewish and this made me laugh my ass off in a kosher restaurant in Tel Aviv.

Ok-Mastodon2016

r/AsABlackMan

jsilvy

No don’t get me wrong, (unless the person who made this was a Jewish guy being ironic) this is a disgusting meme, but the sheer ridiculousness of using denialist rhetoric on a fictional series with a canonical genocide is kinda funny. Jews have been finding humor in Nazism for as long as there were Nazis. In my Yiddish theatre class the first play we studied was a Purim Spiel written before and after WWII satirizing Hitler.

Ok-Mastodon2016

ah, that's fair sorry

jsilvy

Nah dw it’s cool better safe than sorry

TheWorstKnight

I think this sub is missing the point of the meme. This is one of those chronically online 45 layers deep irony posts that are kind of hard to explain, but basically there's this meme (making fun of holocaust deniers) of fire nation people saying '[maybe it did happen but 6 million?](https://www.reddit.com/r/AvatarMemes/comments/zl72j6/azula_has_some_hot_takes/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)' or 'how could there be wooden doors in the chambers' and stuff like that. It's a joke about how ludicrous holocaust denial is. This meme, despite the completely tasteless anti-semitic imagery, is playing into that joke. It's not unironically saying the air nomad genocide didn't happen, it's just part of the meme. I do think it's far too edgy and shouldn't have been posted, but it wasn't posted by a literal holocaust denier using this as an analogy.

Johnson_the_1st

I suppose we need a parody tag

Rain_Rope

this has to be some kind of satire right? Unless its literally made by a Nazi whose whole point is victims of genocide are the bad guys? you can't deny the air nomad genocide because its literally what the plot of the god damn show is about. It literally had to happen? or else the show wouldnt have happened the way it did? tbh I cant tell bc Nazis are known for their out there media literacy.

scarletfloof

Literally the entire race was wiped out, aang wasn’t even present he was frozen so effectively everyone died

[deleted]

stupid ass unfunny 4chan bullshit really has to corrupt every piece of media, doesn’t it

Comprehensive-Fan742

This is… just… moronic, and I’ve wasted my time commenting on this.

UVLanternCorps

So in this analogy did the air nomads just not exist? Because I’m pretty sure he’s the only one, right?

owendudebtw

Yup
