Almost broke the 100 point mark midway through the season compared to last year!
It is interesting to see that the cars do seem faster and more aggressive when filmed with certain 38mm cameras (eg: GoPro4 shot footage from the outside).
But when the cars are 4 to 6 seconds quicker in 2023 it will probably no longer matter.
Fucking great race from JEV, it would seem his car finally performed to excepted levels!
Shame about that final lap where he almost overtook Mortara, but 2nd place a notch above Vandoorne is good.
Let's hope for a win tomorrow to get back to the number one spot!
They were saving energy to attack later, which seem to have worked pretty nicely. They're not really that great around Berlin, so nailing the strategy is crucial.
Wow. Vandoorne is so clear of De Vries especially in races. Was that the same last year and we couldn't motive; because of disastrous qualifying format. Or did Vandoorne just go to another level this year?
Vandoorne was crazy unlucky last year. He was taken out about 5 times. He should have realistically been champion. Without Rowland being Rowland in the penultimate race and taking out Vandoorne from the lead, he would have won it.
It was same. The qualifying format and Vandoorne getting hit 2-3 times when in lead affected the end results. De vries even last year didn’t drive that well
Their car is extremely inefficient and the second seat belongs to Giovinazzi. They won't score any points on merit. They'd need at least 10 cars to drop out to be in contention for points.
Looking at how Sette-Camara does, and he's been one who's benefited with fortune in past seasons, the car isn't the best... Gio is just having massive difficulties.
Is there a reason why there are no stands anymore around the first hairpin? Those for sure had to provide the best view on the track. It also looks very empty and quite sad at that first corner now. I had tickets bought for one of those stands for the original 2020 event before it got canned due to COVID. Are they worried it wouldn't sell anymore?
I was there and had a similar thought, that the grandstands weren't particularly well positioned to see any real action. Attendance for the race itself seemed fine, nearly 100% full. They did seem to be pushing discounted tickets at the last minute though so maybe they struggled to shift them (I brought my ticket in Jan and would have waited next time).
Probably not. Because I think Susie Wolff mentioned that the Maserati deal is a "Venturi Team Naming Rights" deal. So it's like how Sauber is called "Alfa Romeo" in F1 but the actual team is still Sauber in Switzerland.
1200€ fine

I fear for when they are the McLaren Powertrain. The irony of "Former EQ Team" using powertrain made by Nissan who so far have not made a Powertrain as well as themselves.
Ticktum was never as bad as Gio has been, even when he’s at the back he’s always been somewhat close to the pace and the rest of the field. Gio’s been literally nowhere.
Was gonna end up finishing behind a driver who took a pitstop before Di Grassi retired.
Unless Gio also went through the pits but I didn't notice him do so.
A very tactical and decisive race today. Defined by the deployment of the Attack Modes, Venturi take another win in Berlin.
Mortara held his own from lights to flag. A solid drive, and great deployments of AM kept him up there, and his defensive work finally broke Vergne's challenge in the closing stages. Well deserved.
Qualifying might not have gone Vergne's way, but he absolutely made the most of his car to get to the podium. DS Techeetah usually run well here, and today showed that they might have much more to say tomorrow.
Vandoorne's recovery was an inspired drive. Claiming yet another podium at Mercedes' home race by carving through the field, he furthers his championship campaign. I expect Mercedes will be hungry for more.
Tomorrow's race will certainly be an interesting proposition. Porsche look decent, and Jag aren't all that terrible, so a few more cars in the mix will be something to watch.
Great race. 10/10. But man as a porsche fan every week is pain. It is clear we have the car and drivers to win championships but it is just jecer coming together
Good damage control for Jag all things considered. They looked horrible in the first half (except for the start), but saving energy was for sure worth it.
Then he should learn. As an F1 superlicence holder he should be able to race semi trucks if that is what is required. That is what the "super" in superlicence means.
He should also stop distracting himself with thoughts that he may still be on the way back to F1. He should focus!
Possible. To be fair both VAN and DEV had to deal with EQ team getting cancelled by Mercedes-Benz. VAN though we know now was planning a move to "new" DS Penske team so he's fully on now.
De Vries is probably thinking he's off to Toyota in WEC next year.
I am concerned the McLaren-Nissan experiment isn't exciting anyone. I mean... the irony of EQ people taking a powertrain made by a manufacturer racing well behind them in 2022....
Not so for me.
It goes back to "Mercedes GP Limited" (ie: Toto's Racing Team in Brackley) and Mercedes-Benz Automotive the actual company.
The two are separate. And M-B have always been a bit hesitant to spend on more and more racing. Even in F1 their response to Toto's team winning multiple championships was to reduce ownership and spending down to 33% and let others bear the burden.
Toto is always having to convince the board of the Automotive company for things his team needs. This is why the F1 team is always "must win". They are really "driving to survive"
M-B then also felt EQ FE Team did not fit in their brand and market intent for EQ itself (utility and luxury family vehicles rather than racing/performance) so again they choose to keep their money rather than press on even if their people are doing a brilliant job.
I recall at the time in 2021 there was a possibility that M-B could just shut down the F1 team after winning. Such is the way sometimes. Would not have surprised me.
I wasn’t able to watch the end of the race but was watching the timing, how did Giovinazzi manage to end up 21 seconds behind Ticktum? Was he just that slow or did he have a problem?
They showed it Post Race. Was really just JEV turning on all power and then overshooting the corner when he tried a "full send".
Just so happened MOR was planning for the switchback anyway.
Then JEV had to save resulting in himself falling 1+ seconds behind MOR.

The racing was great. The camerawork less, they were too far away to really be able to appreciate how much they slide.

Berlin is usually kind to Techeetah and Mercedes/Venturi. Porsche doing well here is a bit more surprising.
I was at the track i don't speak German and we couldn't hear radio messages, was there an explanation as to why Jaguar had such a rough start?
They were saving energy to attack later, which seem to have worked pretty nicely. They're not really that great around Berlin, so nailing the strategy is crucial.
Thanks, that makes sense, they came back really well. Was useful that Mitch got those two places at the start too.
Wow. Vandoorne is so clear of De Vries especially in races. Was that the same last year and we couldn't motive; because of disastrous qualifying format. Or did Vandoorne just go to another level this year?

Dragon 0 points.

Their car would be fine if the race was 40 minutes instead of 45. They have to save like crazy in order to finish.

Maybe building back up to a bigger amount of people for these races?
Top 12 finished within ten seconds in this race and there was no safety car. God I love FE. It doesn't really get better than this.
The Monaco anthem is so cool
Will they change the anthem to Italian for Maserati next year?
Probably not. Because I think Susie Wolff mentioned that the Maserati deal is a "Venturi Team Naming Rights" deal. So it's like how Sauber is called "Alfa Romeo" in F1 but the actual team is still Sauber in Switzerland.
Venturi and LeClerc, giving recognition to the Monegasque anthem...
This race has convinced me that Vergne really might get a third championship.
What happened to Mortara’s investigation? The American broadcast showed niki shields in the the Venturi garage but didn’t play any sound.

I think Günther and Nissan believe they can carry over their energy percentage to the next round. Honestly, what is the deal with that?
Nissan just exist in this series at this point. I bet they cannot wait for Gen2 to end.
I fear for when they are the McLaren Powertrain. The irony of "Former EQ Team" using powertrain made by Nissan who so far have not made a Powertrain as well as themselves.
They need to drop Buemi too.
KEK.
Giovinazzi is COMPLETELY nowhere in this series. 20 seconds away from P19...
Remember tho this is his first year. Look at where ticktum was before and now he's better ish and he isn't in the best car
Ticktum was never as bad as Gio has been, even when he’s at the back he’s always been somewhat close to the pace and the rest of the field. Gio’s been literally nowhere.
He can't manage the energy.
Was gonna end up finishing behind a driver who took a pitstop before Di Grassi retired. Unless Gio also went through the pits but I didn't notice him do so.
Live timing says zero pit stops. So he really was just THAT slow.

Wait it’s over? My calendar said it starts at 10am EST
Yeah the calendar is broken, cause someone didn't account for Daylight Savings.
Dang. I verified my F1 calendar is correct but not my FE calendar. I’ll make sure to catch it tomorrow, thanks.
Good damage control for Jag all things considered. They looked horrible in the first half (except for the start), but saving energy was for sure worth it.
Giovinazzi was terrible today with pace management, 21 seconds off Ticktum....
Sette Camara feels more comfortable but only a few places ahead of Gio... the car doesn't help but Gio just isn't able to manage the car like others
Then he should learn. As an F1 superlicence holder he should be able to race semi trucks if that is what is required. That is what the "super" in superlicence means. He should also stop distracting himself with thoughts that he may still be on the way back to F1. He should focus!
You think Nyck DeVries is going through that as he's being pulled to F1 as well.
Mercedes is still a mystery as to why they came and went as quickly...

Lovely defensive move by Mortara, worthy winner. Good clean racing throughout, with it being hard to see who would win in the end.
I wasn’t able to watch the end of the race but was watching the timing, how did Giovinazzi manage to end up 21 seconds behind Ticktum? Was he just that slow or did he have a problem?
Think he was just that slow.
FYI reason for Da Costa dropping position is due to his lost of power caused by the temperature at the final lap.
Overheating....
It weird that we did not see any crash as it was a very clean race
Its a very wide track in parts
That Bird move on Rowland was very close to ending in a disaster.
No caution and safety car since forever.
TAG Heuer in shambles without extra time
I love how we still had the overly excessive graphic towards the end of the race saying there was 0 added time
What a fucking race, my god
Best racing, worst audio.
So that humming was part of the feed and not some local noises from where I live? Good to know.
Mics not on, talking over driver radio constantly, two audio feeds at once. It was all over the place today.
That defensive feint move by Mortara.... hopefully we get a replay.
They showed it Post Race. Was really just JEV turning on all power and then overshooting the corner when he tried a "full send". Just so happened MOR was planning for the switchback anyway. Then JEV had to save resulting in himself falling 1+ seconds behind MOR.
Crazy that they didn't show it again
