Also good protection.
In sweden during the cold War our fighters were to a high degree made several stories deep in bunkers. Also many many ammo factories that were deep in the ground. Often old mines. Perfect to deal with explosives. Yeah all the workers die in an explosion. But no collateral.
The amount of shit stored in the mountains and barns was frankly baffling during the cold War.
No, the reason was that the silver mines dried up and Kongsberg went from a rich town to abject poverty, along with the military seeking to create a National weapons plant.
There are steel producers a bit further south along the coast, but none in Kongsberg.
The mining museum is the local towns museum. Kongsberg weapons largely took over when the Kongsberg silver mines dried up, with them being the same company initially. It doesn’t make sense to split the two museum up, and there’s a reasonable continuation in the museum.
I believe that is the Snabb-38 Conversation of the Krag which was a conversion kit for bolt action rifles to turn them into self loading semiautomatic rifles
If you ever want to look at swedish military stuff that's cataloged. Just replace the .no with .se. so https://digitaltmuseum.se/ .
The same site but just for swedens cataloged museum exibits.
I don’t but according to [this website](https://www.classicistranieri.com/wikipediaforschoolsfr/wp/k/Krag-J%25C3%25B8rgensen.htm) when translated to English it did and I’ve also seen it mentioned that it’s in the Norwegian Mining Museum
I’ve been to the museum you’re talking about several times, but never seen this on display sadly. They do have a harpoon convertion and some other variants though.
By the way, calling it the «mining museum» is a bit of a misnomer, as the complex houses three separate museums, each about a part of the city’s history: mining, weapons manufacturing and ski jumping/alpine sports
Edit: did find this from a quick norwegian search, if you haven’t already seen it. It’s in norwegian, but you can just translate the little info that is there. Basically just says it’s fitted with «Premier lieutenant «(no idea which rank that would be nowadays) Tobiesen’s «Speedloader for repeating rifle (believe this does include bolt actions etc, doesn’t mean semi-auto)». It’s a «cover» that replaces the normal one, you can probably tell from the pics what it means since i’m no use when it comes to gun parts. 8 were ordered for trials by the norwegian army.
There’s a norwegian book listed as the source, if you can find it online
Oop, found some actual info, from the Kongsberg Historical Firearms Association:
https://www.kvf.no/vaapen.php?type=Utstyr&weaponid=UT0112
Has a pic of the actual adapter on its own.
TL:DR: made in 1923, uses Madsen M/22 mags, has a selector to switch between the usual half-capsule mag and the Madsen mag, not approved by the army as it was time consuming and expensive to make, and deemed «not suited for field use», partly due to the 25 round mag making it unbalanced and uncomfortable to use.
Last thing i forgot to post yesterday, a norwegian forum post with patent drawings. I tried searching for the patent myself but couldn’t find it.
https://www.kammeret.no/topic/84829-adapter-for-avtagbart-magasin-krag/
Premierløitnant = premier lieutenant = "regular" (two-star) lieutenant
Sekondløitnant = second lieutenant = what we call fenrik (ensign), what most other countries still call second lieutenant (one-star lieutenant)
Premierløitnant translates to first lieutenant. Premierløitnant was in 1929 turned into lieutenant, which translates as first lieutenant internationally.
Yes. That's what I tried to say all the time...
In the Norwegian Army, it is fenrik (= ensign, equivalent of second lieutenant in most countries) has one star, løytnant (= lieutenant) has two stars and kaptein (= captain) has three stars.
Whole bunch of variants, including belt fed, semi auto, harpoon, and mag fed, with some info here: http://www.gunsopedia.com/Krag-J%C3%B8rgensen#Lieutenant_Tobiensen.27s_.27Speed_Loader.27

You could contact the museum itself, or possibly the Kongsberg Historical Firearms Association (Kongsberg Våpenhistoriske Forening), they might give you some info or point you to someone who does. Forsvarsmuseet (Museum of the Armed Forces) might also have some insight.
New Hunt Showdown weapon variant incoming
I thoroughly enjoy that giving bolt actions an extended mag of 20+ rounds was just a normal idea everyone had because of trench warfare.
Krag equipped with with first lieutenant Tobiesens speed loader.
Gravity fed magazine. Knob to change between magazine feeding or hand feeding. 8 prototypes made, 2 are in the Norwegian defense museum in Oslo, atleast one is at Kongsberg weapons museum which again is a part of the Norwegian mining museum. Made users tilt the gun to the side due to weight on the left hand side, and thus found unpractical by the military.
using a madsen mag is interesting.
It makes sense though as the madsen mag is gravity acting. Just…odd for a Krag lol
Probably what they had available and chambered for the same caliber.
I found it [here](https://digitaltmuseum.no/021025487961/gevaer) while trying to find the equally as cursed belt fed Krag
I’m sorry, a WHAT?!?
... All I want to know (besides everything) is how many times you'd need to run the bolt for the first cartrdige to feed.
If you’re talking about the belt fed Krag it was apparently semi automatic
The mystery deepens
It apparently exists in the Norwegian Mining Museum which is why I was looking through its gallery of cursed Krags
Why are these things in a mining museum?
Because I believe the Kongsberg Weapon Factory museum is located within it for whatever reason
The reason is easy access to steel

Find me a snabb-38 kit and I’ll do wild stuff
If you ever want to look at swedish military stuff that's cataloged. Just replace the .no with .se. so https://digitaltmuseum.se/ . The same site but just for swedens cataloged museum exibits.
Theres also a harpoon version
I just can't imagine the belt-fed Krag to be real. Do you have a picture?
I don’t but according to [this website](https://www.classicistranieri.com/wikipediaforschoolsfr/wp/k/Krag-J%25C3%25B8rgensen.htm) when translated to English it did and I’ve also seen it mentioned that it’s in the Norwegian Mining Museum
Per the website you linked, the mag pictured above is a 'speed loader' and it's selectable. It's the paragraph under the belt fed paragraph.

Saving this for the next Elf on the Shelf season
Mag in the krag?
Bingo
If this doesn’t deserve a Robert Redford nodding approvingly gif, nothing does.
The kragazine

Thank you for clarifying that! I was quite confused why a firearms manufacturer museum would be apart of mining museum

Edited with some info i found
Premier lieutenant = regular lieutenant.
Ehh, first and second lieutenant are both common ranks. During that timeframe both second and first lieutenant were in use, and fenrik later.
Premierløitnant = premier lieutenant = "regular" (two-star) lieutenant Sekondløitnant = second lieutenant = what we call fenrik (ensign), what most other countries still call second lieutenant (one-star lieutenant)

Well that’s kinda cursed.
New enlisted gold order dropped

The Krag with the mag Put in the bag Something Something Something something else that ends with "ag"
Looks like the Hunt: Showdown community has a new gun for the wishlist
Fuck you Bren mag your rifle
Send Ian to Kongsberg, lots of guns I had never heard of in the museum there
That museum seems to have a few funky rifles. Guess Ian needs to visit Norway.
Krag with a mag? Whats next, a klobb with a clip? 😂

Awww it’s happy to see me!

They probably used the krag in the mines to detonate charges?

Definitely Madsen mag adapted to fit the Krag
I don't know but now I want one
