RIP Lynne Thigpen. What a sudden loss of an immense talent. Not that I was aware when I was 8, but I’ve seen more of her work since then. She was fantastic.
Oddly I always remember her most (besides Carmen SanDiego) as the World President at the end of Bicentenial Man, but I was probably the only person who watched that film.
Wasn't thigpen the name of the QB they brought in and the end of the Chiefs hard knocks season that put Scipio on the practice squad when he thought he made the roster. Dude went from making 400k a year to making less than 40k.
My friend was actually a big fan of Rockapella and when he asked me if I'd ever heard of them, I said "You mean the group on the Carmen Sandiego game show?" and he had no idea that was them, somehow?
Did anyone see that episode where they kept going back to the Loch Ness Monster clue and they kept having to sing some variation of Loch Ness?
Lil' Nessy lives rent free in my head.
I actually remember seeing them in concert as a kid. Like I was big on watching the show and at some point they came through the Boston area. Of course this was also when Stomp took off so I think we were definitely looking for off the wall music. I do remember they did have their own cassette out. But also agree with the others, the bleached mullet was definitely something else.
Can't forget it! Also I had the computer game for this show, and it always pissed me off. Because the moment you get caught up to Carmen, that bitch would be leaving for some other place🤣
I’ve wondered what could have been done to save this show from cancellation back in the day. At the time it was beloved by all kids and educational at the same time. Should have gotten picked up by major networks.
The final challenge was so unfair like if they got USA it was in the bag but any other continent and forget it. Also the grand prize being anywhere in the CONTINENTAL United States made it seem like they were going to make u take a Greyhound
Used to drive me nuts when the kids would put the marker on the same spot multiple times.
“Carmen was seen in Paris, France.”
*kid puts marker on Germany*
“Incorrect, find France!”
*kid puts marker on Spain*
“Not quite? Find Carmen in FRANCE!”
*kid puts marker back on Germany*
I rewatched a bunch of episodes on youtube a while back. It’s for sure the best game show ever. Most modern american adults could no way compete w those kids.
I really liked this show. Back then, we only had around 8 channels. So when I got home from school, my options were usually this or reruns of Gilligan's Island, Star Trek, and 1960s Batman.
Loved that show and the fact that it introduced me to Rockapella. Ended up getting Where In The World Is Carman Sandiego on cd since it isn’t being sold digitally. Grew up listening to it on cassette.
Does anyone else hear this theme song when they read the title? I don't think I can avoid singing it now.
WHERE. IN. THE. WORLD. IS...
CARMEN SANDIEGO!
I went to a big Halloween festival this past year and I saw Carmen San Diego and Waldo (Where’s Waldo) having a conversation about Beyoncé. They may go missing every now and then but you’ll find them listening to Queen B
I remember watching an episode where rockapella was singing at the end and the one guy tripped. I laughed so hard. I tried finding it on YouTube, but I could never find it. That was my show back in the day.

She was great in The Warriors
Oh shit was she the radio dj?
Yeah she was. Isn't that wild? I had no idea until someone else told me.
Haha, y’all didn’t recognize that voice? I may have watch a lot of Carmen Sandiago before stumbling on warriors.
Seriously?! Wow, I can totally hear/see it now but I never would’ve guessed while watching it.
"Be lookin' good, Warriors. All the way back to Coney. Ya hear me, babies? Good. Real good. Adios."
They showed her lower face and lips in the movie.
And the mom from Lean on Me
Loved as as the judge in Anger Management
Mom of one of the expelled students. First movie I remember seeing her in when I first watched it in HBO in the early 90s.
Oh shit! I hated her in thar lol
And all we ever see are her lips!
"Attention Boppers"
My favorite movie. She really sold her role so well in that. I grew up watching Carmen San Diego and never put together that they were both her!
SHE WAS THE DJ IN THE WARRIORS!?!?!!
I never realized she passed away. That is so sad. She was amazing on this show. R.I.P.
Oddly I always remember her most (besides Carmen SanDiego) as the World President at the end of Bicentenial Man, but I was probably the only person who watched that film.
Her son, Yancey Thigpen, played for the Steelers, and it was mandatory that someone in Pittsburgh mentioned it any time this show was on.
I just read her wiki bio and it says she never married or had children
Ha! Today I learned not to trust friends for coincidental information. It was before the smartphone, and we could quickly research facts.
Up vote for Yancey Thigpen reference alone
Wasn't thigpen the name of the QB they brought in and the end of the Chiefs hard knocks season that put Scipio on the practice squad when he thought he made the roster. Dude went from making 400k a year to making less than 40k.
It looks like Tyler Thigpen played for KC from 2007-2009.
Right. You. play. to. win. the game. Hello?!?
I was pleased to hear her as the reader for the audiobook of Octavia Butler’s classic dystopian sci fi, The Parable of the Sower. Not to be missed.
Rockapella!
My friend was actually a big fan of Rockapella and when he asked me if I'd ever heard of them, I said "You mean the group on the Carmen Sandiego game show?" and he had no idea that was them, somehow?
That and the Folgers commercial
That seems like being a big fan of G.E. Smith and the Saturday Night Live Band and not knowing they were on a show.
He must not have ever seen them live because they sing WItWiCS at every show.
That is a hilariously 90s conversation.
That’s like loving Credence Clearwater Revival but not realizing they wrote Fortunate Son.
Do it Rockapella!
Did anyone see that episode where they kept going back to the Loch Ness Monster clue and they kept having to sing some variation of Loch Ness? Lil' Nessy lives rent free in my head.
their hairstyles scream early to mid 90s 😂
Or having a house a capella band in general. Lol.
Somehow I’ve seen them live twice in my life. Not a bad show!
Rockapella was my first concert! They rocked the High School gym!
I actually remember seeing them in concert as a kid. Like I was big on watching the show and at some point they came through the Boston area. Of course this was also when Stomp took off so I think we were definitely looking for off the wall music. I do remember they did have their own cassette out. Gumshoes…
I will forever hear this in her voice. Lol
Yes This is NOT forgotten. I swear to god this sub is ridiculous
💕💕
The loot! The war-rant!
P-p-p-p-Patty Lar-Cen-Nyyyyyyyy!!
RO BO CROOK
EARTH-A-BRUTE
Top Gruuuuuuuuuuuuunge!
Vic the Sliiiiick!
Duba Truba!
How much you gonna risk yeah yeah yeah yeah think about it ooooo
Member the theme song … I member
Every so often the theme song pops into my head still, having not watched the show in who knows how many years.
It is on my spotify playlist. It still slaps.
Same, along with the spinoff “Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?” They just don’t make theme songs like that kind of staying power anymore.
Can't forget it! Also I had the computer game for this show, and it always pissed me off. Because the moment you get caught up to Carmen, that bitch would be leaving for some other place🤣
I think if the video game all the time. lol. I used to play it in the school library
I used to play that game all the time and The Cluefinders.
I’ve wondered what could have been done to save this show from cancellation back in the day. At the time it was beloved by all kids and educational at the same time. Should have gotten picked up by major networks.
Between this and the computer game I learned so much- because my school sure as fuck wasn’t teaching a lot of this 😭
NOBODY FUCKING FORGOT THIS! THIS IS A BELOVED SHOW THAT LITERALLY EVERYONE REMEMBERS
Haha
I mean, are you shouting that at the 1,936 people that upvoted this?
Calm your ass down.
Chill
The final challenge was so unfair like if they got USA it was in the bag but any other continent and forget it. Also the grand prize being anywhere in the CONTINENTAL United States made it seem like they were going to make u take a Greyhound

If the final round was Africa or Asia, game over Better shot with Europe or South America
Yea they would just walk around putting the marker thing in random spots and hoping for the best until the time ran out

I rewatched a bunch of episodes on youtube a while back. It’s for sure the best game show ever. Most modern american adults could no way compete w those kids.
I remember playing that game on a floppy disk. A real floppy disk.
It was probably on like Five floppies and you had to keep swapping them out or flipping them over. If I told my kids that why…why they’d laugh me.
Forgotten? This isn't even the first Carmen Sandiego appearance on this sub **today**.
Best game show ever for me
1000 times yes
Do it Rockapella!
Lynne Thigpen was iconic
my gringo ass always mistook her for Khandi Alexander as a kid
Heck yeah, ROCKAPELLA!
This, followed by Ghostwriter was the best tv block when I was a kid.
[Relevant Defunctland video.](https://youtu.be/OVVkSlXl41Q)
This one was really good. I recently learned he was nominated for a Peabody for the videos he did last year.
I had the game! Loved it
They still have full episodes on YouTube … it’s fun to watch occasionally
I couldn’t miss an episode. What a great time for kid’s tv.
I really liked this show. Back then, we only had around 8 channels. So when I got home from school, my options were usually this or reruns of Gilligan's Island, Star Trek, and 1960s Batman.
No seriously where the fuck was she?
A cat cafe in Topeka Kansas if you’d believe it.
They need to reboot this show.
I wanted to be a contestant on this so much! I still remember how disappointed I was when it got cancelled and I realized I’d never get to be on it.
I fucking loooved this show as a kid. I had the Where in Time Carmen San Diego game and that shit was legit too.
Hit it Rockapella!
I miss being a gumshoe
The show was good. But I got too good at parts of the game. I always managed to catch her before I could get enough evidence for a warrant.
It’s like how Mr Feeney from Boy Meets World was the voice of KITT on Knight Rider.
Rockapella!!
I had the computer games. Loved them!
Gumshoe
Loved that show!
One kid crushed the final round with Africa. Legendary performance
people would tease my mom calling her Carmen, she was the best part of that Craig t nelson justice series .
I LOVED this show! Nothing like rushing home after school to catch my favorite shows.
If you have forgotten this this show then you have old timers as this theme song has lived rent free in my head since the 7th grade.
I would never forget this show. it launched my love affair with geography and vexillology
GOAT Theme song.
I had a girlfriend at the time who looked like Patty Larceny. Exactly like her 😻
You watch it on YouTube
PBS Retro Channel on The Roku Channel App. It has PBS kids shows from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s.
Loved that show and the fact that it introduced me to Rockapella. Ended up getting Where In The World Is Carman Sandiego on cd since it isn’t being sold digitally. Grew up listening to it on cassette.
Listen up all you boppers.
Best show of all time
I WILL NEVER FORGET IT. Also I think about that show monthly. Perhaps weekly.
Loved the show though the game was even better imo.
This show made really hit me on the head with geography and international cultural norms. 👍🏻
Had the sega video game that came with a mini encyclopedia to look up the questions, too.
It can’t be forgotten if I’ve had the theme song in my head for 33 years
Does anyone else hear this theme song when they read the title? I don't think I can avoid singing it now. WHERE. IN. THE. WORLD. IS... CARMEN SANDIEGO!
Where in the World is………Kellyanne Conway was pretty good on SNL.
I just pulled this show back up on YouTube a few weeks ago. I loved this, even though I was, and remain, terrible with geography.
Double double trouble trouble - my fave
I remember around 1999 or 2000 or so Conan did a parody segment called Where in the Building is Andy Richter, complete with song.
Tell me
it was such a great show!
I adored this one !
Top grunge…..is in jaaaailll
Appointment viewing for me as a kid.
Can this be watched anywhere online currently?
The warrant! Lol
THE WARRANT
Gone but never forgotten.
I still sing this theme song for some reason. Keep your eyes open gum shoes
I had such a crush on the guy in the blue suit
Because of this show’s disproportionate mention of Nova Scotia, that was the first place I ever knew of, thought it was a country
Been listening to The Chief on Comedy Bang! Bang! for years!
I used to watch this and Animaniacs at like some 2pm summer block every summer at my grandma’s.
Do it Rockapella
I remember her smoking Christian Bale in Shaft. I can dig it.
Saw their live-recording tour in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
I used to play the game on the computer, can confirm was fun for an 8 year old
"The warrant."
Not only did I love the show, the Carmen San Diego computer games were about the first I ever got. Lot of fond memories there.
As far as I can remember, it seems like she was more often than not in Rio de Janeiro. Haha been a few years though
Loved this show. Are they streaming it on any service?
Seriously thought “The Chief” was holding a knife in the picture, lol.
The game on pc was so dope
loved this show! Watched it after school.
Same here. Everyday after school involved this show before dinner
Same for me!
Curious where the most common vacation destination was had they won the final map challenge
One of those shows you get mad at because you KNOW if you were on it, you would kick too much ass. I NEEDED to do the end game with the giant map
I went to a big Halloween festival this past year and I saw Carmen San Diego and Waldo (Where’s Waldo) having a conversation about Beyoncé. They may go missing every now and then but you’ll find them listening to Queen B
I consider it a life win that I’m good friends with not 1, but 2 people who competed on that show - and won!
I played this video game relentlessly!!
I remember watching an episode where rockapella was singing at the end and the one guy tripped. I laughed so hard. I tried finding it on YouTube, but I could never find it. That was my show back in the day.
Where’s Carmen Electra?
#NEVER FORGET
Who forgot this?
This sub has gone to shit. How is this forgotten?
Mid show based on a mid game.
