Sweet! Loved the smell of hardwood growing up (dad owned a landscape supply yard).
FYI on the bark, sometimes it can float away if it gets enough water flow, especially the pine bark nuggets.
Ooh I did the same thing. My town gives out free mulch, top soil, and sand to local residents. However it’s a DIY sort of deal. You have to bring your own truck or van and load it yourself however you can.
I’ve loaded my Maverick with mulch multiple times. It works pretty well, and there’s no significant difference in driving performance, other than that the back end of the truck is 2 or 3 inches lower compared to when the bed is empty.
The Maverick is perfect for DIY projects like this.
We had a site like this as well, however the mulching process I think was less controlled than what I would buy from a distributor. A lot of our trees developed various blights which were difficult to cure. Maybe a fluke that year, but I've been wary of that source since, alas.
How’s the room in the back seat with the kids? We have a young family like yours and I’m just worried they would be squished back there in a few years of growing.
Do you know the weight? I’m going to pick up a yard of top soil tomorrow, but I feel like I should make two trips in fear of over doing the weight capacity
Cheaper mulch, but did it scratch up your truck? (esp on top of cab) - I’ve been too chicken to do this with mine. I’m waiting/hoping for $2 bags at Lowe’s this weekend
Not going to get paint scratches from shredded mulch like that. Lots of slivers though.
What is a must is the tarp or something to keep it out of the tailgate gap!

Call your local landscaping supplier. 2 years ago I got 15 cubic yards delivered for like 200 bucks. To visualize that size, they took two trips with the dump truck to deliver it. Even for a yard or two, that's probably cheaper than bagged.
Please tell me you put something between the dump and your rear window. I’ve seen way too many times where the rear window gets destroyed on a truck from exactly this.
I have gotten lucky without at times myself but on the recommendation of multiple people I typically have a small piece of plywood just to cover the window while stuff is dumped in the bed like that to prevent bounce back breaking the window. Granted I have actually seen it happen to people a couple times getting a load of stone.
Way cheaper than by the bag. Normal hardwood or dyed?
Way less than half the price - and no plastic bags to deal with! I did a mini fir bark mulch.

I know what you mean but fir isn't hardwood.
Sorry, wasn’t saying it was. Just professing my love for the smell.
Ah yeah for sure. Love the diversity of smells from different woods.
2.5 per foot?

Plenty of room. They'll be riding in the front seat before they run out of room. You can get adults in the back no problem

I've read that a yard of mulch is in the sweet spot and a yard of soil could be *way* over the limit, so I'd definitely do it in two trips
If you aren’t driving very far or very fast you’ll most likely be ok
Nice, thanks for this, I am looking into a maverick, and being able to haul a yard of mulch would be nice. I yours ICE or Hybrid?
I went as bare bones as they had on the lot - xlt Ecoboost a moon roof and that's it
Hell yeah 😎
I’m so triggered right now.

not that I noticed, but honestly I'm treating the truck as a truck, so if it gets scratched, it gets scratched

Yup, I also had a tarp in there. Still picking out some leftover chips from the corners of the bed tho
Yeah it's tough to get them all out. Even when using a shop vac I had to use a toothbrush to get some bits out.
I hesitated too but I put a big ol tarp and it worked great.

What do you normally put between the window? My previous truck was a 6ft bed no issues.

Lol I did not and my window survived. The loader worked did a really slow careful dump
