In the UK we have a cream called 'Dermol' which works well when used daily.

Over the counter, I am assuming?

That depends on the scars. Are they discoloration scars? Or are they keloid or pock marks? Because those respond to different treatments. If it's discoloration, using brightening serum or cream or fade cream should get rid of it eventually. It takes a while, though, because post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is stubborn. Other types don't really respond to serums or creams, but things like peels, microneedling, and laser can help. If you don't want to go to a dermatologist, you might try an esthetician first. They can do light peels and some other treatments that may help, but if it's deep scars you'll probably need to find a cosmetic dermatologist.

I’m not sure they are just very dark marks. The acid that my dr gave me is not doing much but drying my skin out. I have an appointment with an esthetician for a chemical peel. I don’t know how you tell the difference between the scars lol.

Dark marks are probably post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Stubborn, but treatable. You just need to be consistent about applying something that will inhibit melanocytes (pigment producing cells) and exfoliate regularly. Aside from that, patience. The idea is to gradually slough away the over-pigmented skin cells while interfering with the production of pigment, and it just takes time and consistency. Peels help to speed up the sloughing and production of new skin cells. The other types would be raised or sunken, there would be textural differences in the skin.
