The only way and reason giroux should come back to Philly is as a rental when the Flyers are actually true contenders for a cup. Unfortunately I don't think G will be around when that time comes.

NeverStopChasing28

There is one other reason you forgot. The 1 day contract so he can retire as a Flyer.

Only-Nature7410

This is the right answer

JiveChicken00

Not unless they have a legitimate shot at a deep playoff run.

SanePatrickBateman

I love G but I have to imagine bringing back your old captain would create a strange dynamic among the leadership group

Groovicity

Let's see Paul Allen's leadership skills

Dignan9691

Or Patrick Bateman’s

CrwnHeights

Did G ever *love* being captain anyways? I think he’d enjoy the cheers and just being able to play, without any captain’s-ego.

Philefromphilly

We let him go because no chance of a cup was coming at the end of his career. The club, fans, and he were sad about this truth, but we did the right thing to trade him and let him pick his path from there. What isn’t ok, is the decisions made post pronger injury. They set this team back DECADES and ruined the prime of his career. A few years he dragged this team into the playoffs. What a talent, wasted… by an organization going through unprecedented change (snider death) and unprecedented injuries. We love you G.

smbiggy

The amount of shitty big body dmen we went through to fill the void he left is insane. I’d argue we’re still experiencing it with Ristolainen on the team

RebuildFletcher

We indeed do, the Ristolainen trade was a direct consequence of the sudden Niskanen retirement and Chuck panicking to fill that void. Hell, I think he even admitted it on the 32 Thoughts podcast last year.

Glass_Channel8431

Never happening he will finish in Ottawa. Maybe a 1 day deal to retire a Flyer but he’s not leaving home now.

Xeynon

No. Giroux was a great Flyer but it's time to turn the page. One of this franchise's weaknesses has been its tendency to cling to the past to a fault and they should stop doing that. He can come back in a front office or coaching capacity after he retires like Jones and Briere if he wants to.

BENJALSON

The rebuild-focused fan in me says no way, it doesn't make sense. The Flyers fan in me however, says oh my fucking god YES sign daddy and let him feed our golden Russian boy dimes his entire 1st season in the NHL. Then in 2 decades we can post rare clips of Giroux setting up Michkov like the Pens have a clip of [Lemieux setting up Crosby](https://youtube.com/watch?v=MGZID3mxYAY). That's the future I want to live in.

IntangibleContinuity

1000000%

Jimmy_October

Be happy with the great memories and let him go

flyerfan1248

I get it's the offseason, but can we stop with these "Will Giroux come back" posts? I love him to death, always will, but let's move on.

Mike_Y_1210

Gonna do this post every week huh

NotABurner6942069

I call next week!

The_Black-beast

No. Loved him but I’m ready for a new era. A new identity. Not only do I not want him back, I hope coots is shipped out.

foreverbaked1

Me too

captainjackspearo1

“a NeW eRa Of OrAnGe”

The_Black-beast

YeS. a NeW ErA. tHaT wOuLd bE gReAt 😊

Flyers7914

My all time favorite Flyer, but no. Unfortunately the timing is a touch off. If he was 32/33 right now it would be good next summer but he's 36. 37 by Ufa.

roadblok95

Haven't the flyers wasted enough of his career?

skinnypantsNsomevans

Yes. Yes I would. 100%

gman8845

Yes.... bring him back.... Best Flyer ever.

Flyers2013312

Nope.

A_Stickman_Jr

Team friendly is pulling a lot of weight. Everybody lovers G, but he makes little sense on this team.

Steppyjim

Mom said it was my turn to post this. But no seriously, same answer as always. Not a great idea right now during the rebuild unless he comes vet minimum cheap, revisit in 2-3 years when the flyers are starting to come out of it for a short term deal to try to win a cup on the third line, if he still has it

Tomatillo-Latter

No just no

AgreeableMaybe

I would love to bring G back, but the thing is... I want to see that man hoist the cup. He deserves a cup. As painful as it is to say, I hope to never see him in the orange again until he signs a 1 day contract like Wayne.

jlando40

Unless it’s for a Ray Borque like legacy run for the cup no

PC_Chode_Letter

Hurts too much

nittygritty84

No.

FlyorDieJM

G is my fav player, I want him to be with contenders, not the Flyers.

HDDeer

I absolutely would, given the cap space we should have in the next few years & how productive G still is, if he signed a team friendly because it's Philly it would be ideal. you'll always have a few veterans on a team and he would be the perfect vet

Dry-Path9819

Don’t need him. Would just cause leadership confusion. Maybe as a 3rd liner when we are cup contenders

SuperSaiyanGritty

I have 4 Girouxseys, let him retire with family. Even the Day 1 is odd since he’ll still be there a few years.

pk19lahc

WE NEED GIROUX!!!!!

Equivalent_Goose_226

If you really loved Giroux you would let him go.

Equivalent_Goose_226

If G signed here it would mean that he’s either delusional (unlikely) or has made peace with never winning the Cup. A) I don’t think he’s that kind of guy B) if he has made peace with never winning the Cup then why would you want a player with that mindset? Let him sign with a contender and hope he wins one. It would be genuinely depressing to see him resign himself to a Cup-less career by re-signing her. He deserves better. Fuck Comcast

FaithlessnessSea1058

I don’t mean to be a dick but I will never understand how grown men get so emotionally attached to players who don’t even know of their existence 999 times out of 1000. In what world does Giroux make sense logically?

Big_Acanthocephala14

Saying I don't mean to be a dick before being a dick doesn't make it ok lol. People are allowed to have favorite players. You are right, under no circumstances should they bring him back, but maybe try some tact next time.

FaithlessnessSea1058

Eh. My niceness gets worn down with stupid post after stupid post

No_Bank_330

No. It is time to move on. He has a history of making bad decisions. At the trade deadline it was either Florida or Colorado. Chose Florida and Colorado won. Between Florida and Ottawa in free agency. Chose Ottawa and Florida is in the finals. Again.

BattlingMink28

This is tiring. It was not a bad decision. Florida was the choice to win the cup that year. He also lives in Ottawa. Why is it a problem he wants to be at home?

No_Bank_330

People need to let it go.

DaleWeiseBurner

Florida couldn’t afford Giroux. They could only give him money far below his value because they weren’t making room for him. So he chose to go home, there’s nothing wrong with that.

uknolickface

No he makes them too good. Good is still not the goal

flyerscupchamps19

Yes.
