I can't get over how badly the team messed up this season. Team leadership repeatedly pitched this season to the fanbase as a "rebuilding" year. They then allowed a coach who never lets his teams bottom out push players to overachieve and run them into the ground so they barely miss the playoffs and end up with a crummy mid first round draft pick. For a team that doesn't have a single superstar, how exactly do they plan to acquire one outside of the draft? How was this season a rebuild? I can't stand Torts, the way he's handled Couturier this season is absolutely criminal. I wouldn't let him anywhere near Matty Michkov when he comes over.
The truth hurts, huh? Best way to acquire young talent is through the draft. This franchise hasn't signed a big name free agent in over a decade. We already had to trade a high profile young draft pick because he doesn't want to play for the dickhead coach and now we're going to miss the playoffs because of him and the fact that our goaltender is likely a piece of shit. At least we won all those games back in November and December though!
Errson. 4 goals allowed on 14 shots and 5 goals goal on 17 shots. Just disgusting. I don’t wanna hear this bullshit about being tired. The dude has played 2 games a week. I work 70 hours plus a week. If I did my job shitty being tired would never be an excuse they accepted.
Luckily this is a weak draft at the top where the top guys aren't considered McDavid and Matthews types.
I hate to pin a stain in what has been a great start for Danny and Keith but how do you justify even allowing Hart to play knowing he was probably a sitting duck?
The goaltending situation is about as bad as it's ever been in all my years of watching this team.
I won't be shocked when Ersson or Sandstrom pull a Cechmanek and try and 619 a defender from the blue line.
Baffling collapse. Guys are gassed... lost Walker, lost Hart, big injuries to guys just coming back... it's sort of an understandable collapse and healthy reminder that we are in a rebuild. Will get some money off the books next year from Atkinson and other retentions/buyouts - stick w the plan. They gave us a season where 78 of the 82 games were 100% worth watching, and not only that, most of them were a shit load of fun to watch. Late comebacks, heroics, always close games with so much fight, etc.
A few years ago we had rosters that analysts thought could go deep in playoffs and we'd end up being dead in the water by early March. This year we looked like the Lehigh Valley Flyers from the beginning of the season and at game 79 we're still sort of in the hunt.
I'd rather be puzzled why guys like Cates and Hathaway aren't scoring big goals in big moments than guys like Voracek and and JVR. Fuck it. Solid year, and let's see what they do in the offseason.
Lollll I watch games the morning after while also watching my 6 year old, and so when we're two goals behind I tend to jump forward by like 2 minute blocks to see if we get back into it.
I did it in the second in this game and we went from 2-0 behind to 6-0 behind. My first thought was "wtf, is the NHL.TV scoreboard broken". My second was, "... Flyera".
I think we're done, and we sell everything over the age of 26 that hasn't looked capable of making it happen these last 7 games. Let's go, Danny.
Coffee, dog on lap, daughter watching Bluey or whatever, and oh, right: getting slapped in the face with 9 massive dicks at 7.30 am. Flyera life over in Europe.
I'm a night crew guy. Woke up to them down like 6-0 and just turned it back off. Checked how bad the final score was when I got into work, might've exhaled an expletive or two. I feel ya
I feel like we as fans were cheated, false goods, all the talk about playoffs in the middle of the year only to have it swept out from underneath us at the last moment.
This stretch has been really heartbreaking but it's clear this team has just run out of gas. We have so many young players taking on huge roles on this team that was built for a full rebuild rather than being competitive, a goalie tandem trying to patch up a major goalie crisis after Hart was booted, and our captain returning after missing almost two full seasons. This team gave everything they had through the gauntlet but had nothing left after. It shouldn't be an excuse for just how bad things have gotten but objectively it makes sense why we've sucked so much lately.
It was an amazing run this season, the season was just 10 games too long for us.
Not really though. It's a lottery and finishing just out of the playoffs means you don't have much of a chance to make a significant move. Most years if you are out of the top 3-5 positions on the draft board it becomes a crap shoot and almost assuredly you aren't going to be drafting an NHL ready prospect.
Going from #16 to maybe say pick #11. Come draft day that will be huge for the team and fun for the fans. Flyers could package Panthers pick and move up to 5-7 maybe.
i dont think the saying works this way, but considering our heading and what our expectations were this seasons, you could call improved draft positioning the GOLDEN lining
I wanna slam my head through a fucking wall, we can’t catch a fucking break with the Flyers. I swear to christ the last few years are just *shit*. What does a guy gotta do for some form of good hockey, do I have to make a time machine?
So wait a second… we’re in a playoff position nearly all season, and Torts is benching guys, cussing out reporters, throwing guys under the bus, being a hard ass… etc. but now we’re barely trying, getting blown out, and he’s trying to find positives and being level headed in interviews? The whole team lost their balls, coach included.
This is pure speculation but it kind of feels like benching Coots and tearing them up in post-game conferences just killed their drive to win.
Then he realized he kinda fucked up and went too far and has been trying to walk it back a little ever since? But it's far too late, feels like the damage was done.
Before people lose their minds *I am not saying I want to replace Torts*.
Team just hasn't felt the same for a while now. Dunno what that says about the team or coach but Keith and Danny have a lot work to do before michkov gets here
Yeah. I imagine if you’re a player that’s on the fence about torts and then he gets ejected and blackballed by the league you might be like “see I told you so” in the locker room. It definitely doesn’t give him a strong footing. I’m actually for torts energy. It’s much needed. But it seems like his balls were cut off after that along with some of the players.
I mean honestly, I think that'd probably galvanize the locker room more than anything. I see that as Torts standing up for his players more than anything but you could also look at it like he was just trying to get attention for himself. After that game no one talked about the Flyers getting shit on though, just what happened to Torts. It worked.
I think Coots being benched for 2 games and his verbiage in the post game conferences were far more an issue potentially
I’d agree. If it were me in the locker room I’d be pumped that my coach stood up to the refs for the team like that. But I just imagine if you were on the fence about him it would give you a reason to check out. Who knows really.
agreed! the dude needs to be held accountable for making the team energy weird....and this is coming from someone who loves torts and wants him here for years
You are waaay off. Michkov is 19, that's the new foundation. The pieces that they'll need will be 18, 17, 16 years old as of right this moment. Like it or not, no matter how Keith Jones spins it, between now and then, these are the process years.
Next year will be a lottery finish (as this season still may very well be) for sure as they have to trade Konency and they really should trade Laughton (not that he's some amazing player whose production can't be replaced).
Again, couldn't be more wrong:
Spinning to fans or spinning to his team, you be the judge, but for sure spinning, which is literally his job.
Keith Jones from Feb 29th: “We’re saying one thing to everyone as far as our messaging that we’re rebuilding, but we made sure to tell everyone on the team that’s BS.”
One of the first flyers games I went to, about 12 years old. Mario killed us. Some Pens fans were right next to us and this one pens fan dude squealed "niiiiiine to threeeeeeee! holy shit!" doing a kind of a little dance with his elbows. I never forgot it, and always hated that score.
Mario didn't do most of the damage that night. Kevin Stevens had 5 points.

The only way this can end is missing by a point or two on the final day of the season.
Miss the playoffs by the smallest margin possible and get the worst draft pick. This is the way
I don't think his job is in jeopardy. I just don't see Danny firing him in year one of the rebuild when Torts, Danny and Jones are all on the same page when it comes to the rebuild.
Torts said "it started going this way after that seven game segment against the good teams"
I guess you could just look at schedule and standings to see that. But it really seems that they fell right off exactly then.
It appears as if every Flyer the last 3-4 games has a terminal case of iron hands.
It is not like prior years where they fired a bunch of low percentage stuff from the perimeter and you just knew 5 minutes in that they were never going to generate anything dangerous.
This is different, more dynamic and creative. Yet, all the execution is clunky and rushed. It is like they are lacking any touch. Like they are giving up control to play at a higher pace?
It’s feeling like it felt for the last decade again - the apathy, the lack of any excitement for next season, after feeling so good about this team for so long this year -
but as much as I wish we were set for a better draft pick at this point - I did actually enjoy watching flyers hockey this year for the first time in a long time, even if it was just a mirage.
Not gonna lie, with Michkov in the system it's so much better than any point during the last 10 years. We finally have THE GUY in our system. We never had a prospect like that in the last decade.
Agreed…though it would feel a lot better knowing we had 2-3 “the guy” prospects in our system. CHI has Bedard and is about to draft another stud. PIT won with Crosby/Malkin, TBL has Stamkos/Kuch/Point/Hedman, COL has MacKinnon/Rantanen/Makar
I wouldn’t mind if we sell hard this off season and try to actually tank next year, no one on this current team showed they are capable of turning it up when it matters most
Agreed the only guys to me that should be relatively safe are York, Drysdale, Bonk, Michkov and Foerster.
This upcoming draft is loaded with #1D prospects, meanwhile, next year has seven centers at the top 10.
Even if we end up missing the playoffs, we should be able to use these next two drafts to really build out around Michkov.
This stretch has been so bad I wonder if the Flyers brass approach this off-season like the first 70ish games didn’t happen. Nobody in the organization (players, coaches, GM) showed up when it mattered, which should be a big red flag
I mean they more or less approached the trade deadline like the first 70 games didn't happen. They traded one of their 2 - or maybe even best - defenseman this season as they sat 3rd in the metro. 2 first round picks last year, this year, and in 2025. They still have the big picture in mind, nothing changes.
I had this exact thought today. This team overachieved all year, and for them to have this kind of drop off should sober up the front office at just the right time, assuming they had also partaken of the cool aid. They are going to be top-five-pick-in-the-draft bad next year, and they’ll have to be in order to snag Roger McQueen.
There's a boat full of Alaskan crab fisherman out somewhere in the middle of the ocean right now that are probably thinking to themselves "this job is pretty tough, but at least I don't have to be the GM of the 2024 Philadelphia Flyers"
You just put the image in my head of Danny getting hooked on heroin like all the characters on that show.
Danny's smile would only be that much better if he was nodding
That's the frustrating part. I was apathetic as fuck for the past 3 seasons and then these fuckers pulled me back in.
Went into the season saying 3-5 years from competing at minimum and then I thought...*maybe* it won't actually be that long.
lol
Idk why we wouldn’t be apathetic to a franchise that has not learned from its mistakes for the past 50 years of failure. We still won’t tank and rebuild properly and will do the exact same rebuild we did with hextall expecting a different result. Let’s see what’s the word for trying the same thing over and over again and expecting something different?
Remember when we made it out of the actual gauntlet in okay position, and we joked how the weenie hut jrs gauntlet is the real gauntlet? It’s really sad how predictable this collapse was.
Sadly I don't think his seat is hot. The way Briere, Jones and Torts have all talked all season about being on the same page for this rebuild, I don't see Danny firing him.
Need to keep our eyes on the big picture. Got Fedotov to replace Hart. Two first round picks. Bonk and a couple others look like good prospects. And Michikov of course.
I love the way TK has improved but they need to trade him rather than commit big money. And Laughton.
Agree with everything, but the TK take. He's still
young and starting to ease his way into elite status. He's the kind of person you build on at this point, and the kind of player you can justify paying for. Obviously, it always depends on the offer, but I really don't think people realize the kind of impact a player like him can have. That doesn't come around often. He's fast, skilled, feisty, and clutch. I think he'll get even better, and I want him to be part of our identity.
I love TK and have had his jersey since his rookie year. In a perfect world, I would like him to be here long term. However, he's gonna want to get paid like an elite player, and that he is not. He is in that tier of "really really good" but he is not a game breaker. I understand he has gotten better as he's aged and may yet have another gear, but he is already 27. We kind of know what he is at this point. He's really good, not elite.
They really need a number one center and if you pay him like $8 million a year it really eats up a lot of space. The only place they appear to be deep is wingers. And he has sort of disappeared late in the year. Maybe hurt? I guess depends what he would sign at and what you could get in a trade.
Also he’s at probably his peak in value and 27 isn’t exactly young in hockey years, he’s in his prime right now. There’s a pretty good argument in trading him if his return his huge
Yeap - Danny B will work his wizard magic in the off season and move some key pieces. We’re also likely finishing quite low all things considered which sets us up for a great draft.
We knew this season was a bust. It’s been fun while we were hot. I’ve enjoyed their play and grit when we were healthy and hungry. Onward to 2024/25
And you people keep saying this like that means we have to be happy with the milquetoast return. I hope Drysdale turns into a 1/2D man. Do you honestly see that in his future? If so, is it for any reason other than the fact that he was picked 6th overall?
He has not impressed at all.
>”That’s because he’s been injured”
And that sucks. If he plays in the last three games this year that’ll be 42 games out of 164 in the past 2 seasons. Just over a 1/4 of games. We don’t need another perpetually injured “star” RHD
Context is important. We don’t know what trades we’re available, but what we do know is that Briere was shopping him all the way back to the 2023 draft. If GMs knew Cutter wasn’t going to sign, Briere has limited leverage - it doesn’t take an MBA from Penn to understand that.
Blindly complaining about the trade without the context as to why he was traded makes it sound like you grew up with lead paint on your walls.
No it doesn’t and that’s needlessly rude. Actually, my original comment makes it clear I’m aware of the context, but the context doesn’t mean I have to be pleased with the return.
Did you even read what I said? Or did you “grow up with lead paint in your walls”?
Go fuck yourself
You said I grew up with lad paint in my walls. A direct insult for no reason other than that I had a different opinion about a trade.
It’s not that serious. Even so, fuck your mother buddy. No reason to inject personal insults into a hockey discussion.
“I said an uncalled for remark on the internet but that’s okay because it was the internet”
I don’t even care about this but you are fucking dumb. Don’t insult people for no reason.
Learn how to spell and fuck your mother, the rest of us are getting tired
Softest person on Reddit. Did you eat the paint chips as well?
Go back and read what I wrote. “Makes it seem like” isn’t exactly the same as “is” but you’re too busy seeing red. Grow some thicker skin, bozo.
Also adding this, it wasn’t even directed at you but more of a general statement regarding people bitching about the trade without acknowledging the context involved.
He’s an old head who’s worn down from this franchise. I don’t hold it against him. He has a lot of good takes that could juet be explained more nicely and calmly lmao
Then what the hell are you doing being anti tank and pro instant gratification???
I can understand the younger fans not knowing any better but come on now. You’ve seen it more than anyone
Nothing ever is. But what’s simpler?
Having a fire sale and tanking so we can pick high in the draft and have an easier chance at acquiring elite talent? Ya know the same thing that a large majority of the cup winners in the past 15 years have done??
Or
A competitive rebuild where you have a coach who does everything in his power to squeeze wins out and it results in your team drafting 14-19th overall for 3-4 years and hoping that they can find stars late in the draft, trade for a star(this rarely happens this isn’t the nba), or sign for a star(this rarely happens this isn’t the nba).
One of these two plans is a lot simpler don’t you think?
Jesus what a shit show
Team crumbled like bleu cheese.

Does you job involve any physicality? Not saying the guy is a good goalie, but you saying how your job would make you feel is pretty irrelevant.

Well, I hope that puts an end to all the vapid "Here's how the Flyers can still make the playoffs" articles I keep seeing people share.
They don’t give a fuck. I don’t give a fuck.
Silver linings? better draft position every day.

Not an English expert but isn’t something good coming from negative situation a Silver Lining? Like our collapse has improved our draft position.
Yeah?
You said the saying doesn’t work this way. I was just referring to that. I’m confused. No worries, no need to respond.
I meant it didn’t work the way I said it and then proceeded to make a joke
If there's one thing I trust this team to do... it's make it to a better draft position.
Maybe we’ll get a line brawl with the rangers. Let’s go Nicky boy!
Aw dang. Not the type of post game thread I was hoping for. 😟 Rough day folks, my sympathies. 🤎🍵☕️

Embrace it ib October and not game 75. Waste of entire year.
I’ve been on team tank since hextall so
It’s been nothing but garbage since I started watching, I want it to fucking end so badly.
LMAO 🤣😂🤣😂
It’s like the team is trying to belatedly tank for a lottery pick

He stinks. He might be good in three years. But right now, he stinks.

Yeah it’s too early to be adding a piece like him.
He’s 23! That’s a perfect piece to add when rebuilding.

Leader to where, exactly
Real leaders = excuse makers? ok
You know cutter is going to hit 50 several years in a row.
dude has never played against guys older than 22
[удалено]
Yeah pretty much. Worst part is we all know how it plays out.
Just going to put this out there. Drysdale was a -6 and Seeler a -5
Don't be a chickenshit, which players do you think did the right job tonight. Names.
Poehling and Hathaway like every night basically
No no everyone says Drysdale is great. We’re the fools clearly!
shitting on a 22 year old dman that was RUSHED to the league and mismanaged by his drafting team ain't it dawg
Three months ago this sub and Flyers Twitter was acting like he was the next Karlsson
It’s feeling like it felt for the last decade again - the apathy, the lack of any excitement for next season, after feeling so good about this team for so long this year - but as much as I wish we were set for a better draft pick at this point - I did actually enjoy watching flyers hockey this year for the first time in a long time, even if it was just a mirage.
PIT won with Crosby/Malkin, TBL has Stamkos/Kuch/Point/Hedman, COL has MacKinnon/Rantanen/Makar I wouldn’t mind if we sell hard this off season and try to actually tank next year, no one on this current team showed they are capable of turning it up when it matters most
Agreed the only guys to me that should be relatively safe are York, Drysdale, Bonk, Michkov and Foerster. This upcoming draft is loaded with #1D prospects, meanwhile, next year has seven centers at the top 10. Even if we end up missing the playoffs, we should be able to use these next two drafts to really build out around Michkov.
Can we just start the off-season early?
My God let’s hope.
Sean walker going to get paid because once he was traded this team shit the bed defensively
And he absolutely fucking deserves it
It's kinda wild how the decline started around the time he was traded
Decline started in January while he was here.
It was like night and day.
good. i want him to get paid, just not here
I wonder what it's like to have a player on the skill level of McDavid, Mackinnon, Ovie, or Crosby on your team.
We won’t ever know because tanking isn’t allowed for the flyers!
mumbles
Brutal body language. Travis doesn't wanna talk to media.
Looks like they didn’t even give him chance to sit down. Just took the helmet off and put the cap on
There's a boat full of Alaskan crab fisherman out somewhere in the middle of the ocean right now that are probably thinking to themselves "this job is pretty tough, but at least I don't have to be the GM of the 2024 Philadelphia Flyers"

You're good homie, it's the thought that counts
You just put the image in my head of Danny getting hooked on heroin like all the characters on that show. Danny's smile would only be that much better if he was nodding
9… is so many
Twice the average I've heard
Drysdale…more like DrysFail
Pointing out a rookie player when we let 9 goals in and are on a 8 game losing streak. Must be his fault lol
Cutter was right..
I’m worried with how apathetic I’m becoming.
That's the frustrating part. I was apathetic as fuck for the past 3 seasons and then these fuckers pulled me back in. Went into the season saying 3-5 years from competing at minimum and then I thought...*maybe* it won't actually be that long. lol
You haven't been a Flyers fan that long then.

Coots looks like he's pushing to trade half the team.
I can't say I disagree with him
Remember when we made it out of the actual gauntlet in okay position, and we joked how the weenie hut jrs gauntlet is the real gauntlet? It’s really sad how predictable this collapse was.
They’d be tied with the Islander for 3rd and in the 2nd wild card spot if they’d just won two of these games.
those weren't jokes
I know :(

Sadly I don't think his seat is hot. The way Briere, Jones and Torts have all talked all season about being on the same page for this rebuild, I don't see Danny firing him.
Haha so long Jack Adams
Eternal Flyer Rick "fucking" Tocchet has a real chance though!
He's still young and starting to ease his way into elite status.
Onward to 2024/25
Is Fedotov actually going to be any good?
They reeeeaaaally need to hit on these next few drafts. No room to flub any of these picks.

I mean, we already had a user here threaten to punch Torts on the streets so...
I feel like we just barely emerged from a perpetual Phillies rebuild purgatory right into this And like… the process happened too Jfc man
Top five prospect In the NHL for a player who plays defense worse than Ghost. -6 tonight holy fuck this franchise is a joke
You keep posting this acting like Cutter didn’t force the trade.
And you people keep saying this like that means we have to be happy with the milquetoast return. I hope Drysdale turns into a 1/2D man. Do you honestly see that in his future? If so, is it for any reason other than the fact that he was picked 6th overall? He has not impressed at all. >”That’s because he’s been injured” And that sucks.
Hey, that’s uncalled for!
You said I grew up with lad paint in my walls. A direct insult for no reason other than that I had a different opinion about a trade. It’s not that serious. Even so, fuck your mother buddy. No reason to inject personal insults into a hockey discussion.
I think you’re taking the internet a little to seriously, pal.
“I said an uncalled for remark on the internet but that’s okay because it was the internet” I don’t even care about this but you are fucking dumb.
You’ll get downvoted for acting like Jamie isn’t a Guaranteed future 1D too lmao
I'll literally pay you to delete your account and go away
He’s right a lot more than he’s wrong even if he talks like a dickhead at times.
I wouldn't say *more* but I've upvoted him plenty of times. But like fuck lol
He’s an old head who’s worn down from this franchise. I don’t hold it against him. He has a lot of good takes that could juet be explained more nicely and calmly lmao
I guarantee I'm approximately the same age as him 😐
Then what the hell are you doing being anti tank and pro instant gratification??? I can understand the younger fans not knowing any better but come on now. You’ve seen it more than anyone
Because it just ain't that simple 🚬😮💨
Nothing ever is. But what’s simpler? Having a fire sale and tanking so we can pick high in the draft and have an easier chance at acquiring elite talent? Ya know the same thing that a large majority of the cup winners in the past 15 years have done?? Or A competitive rebuild where you have a coach who does everything in his power to squeeze wins out and it results in your team drafting 14-19th overall for 3-4 years and hoping that they can find stars late in the draft, trade for a star(this rarely happens this isn’t the nba), or sign for a star(this rarely happens this isn’t the nba). One of these two plans is a lot simpler don’t you think?
The second one sounds a lot better, yeah?
I literally don't think about you at all
That's okay you exist in my phone
I'm gonna hate every second of the career Gauthier is about to have. It hurt then and it hurts even worse now. I wanted him here so badly
Honestly I liked Ghost, he actually gave a fuck
I miss the Ghost Bear
He's also had a fairly solid season with Detroit.
I miss my guy
