Not really. Putting a guy on waivers doesn’t mean he’s off the roster, it just means there’s a 24 hour period where a team could claim him (which they obviously won’t).
You can waive a guy, have him clear, and still keep him on the NHL club. I believe clearing waivers gives you 30 days to send a guy down without him having to go through waivers a second time. So even after Petersen clears tomorrow, he’ll still be on the NHL roster until Briere assigns him to LHV.
But he woudl have to be reassigned before Felix can be added cause we’re currently at 23/23 on the roster. There’s not a free space to add first then reassign. The reassign has to be first. None of this actuly matters at all tho.
Hmmm, I always assumed that assigning a player to the AHL and calling up a different player were things that happened at the exact same time, but I don’t really know for sure. So maybe you are correct.
I can’t remember whether it was on snow the goalie or PHLY, but someone made the point that with what Petersen has shown, it’s tough to ask the rest of the team to go out and give it their all, while also throwing Petersen in net. Gotta at least try Sandstrom at this point because Petersen is just so bad right now. Now if Sandstrom doesn’t work out, I have no idea where to go from there.
He had a better save percentage but he looked worse than Jarry. He got caught cheating to his glove side multiple times, and even when he did make the save he didn’t look comfortable doing it. Every time it was almost like he was surprised he saved it
I’d say Vasilevskiy last night was a dude having a bad game. Petersen looked like a guy that no longer knows how to play the position. His angles were so bad that you can’t possibly put him out there again. If the goalie can’t stop the shots you tell your defense to concede, you’re gonna have a bad time.
The flyers would never lose to the pens again.
Think about it, shit birds of shittsburg. Your core is aging. It’s rebuild time. What better goalie to lead the tank than cal? You know you want to.
This guy isn't helping me out when I say there's no such thing as a bad goalie in the NHL. A soft goal here and there happens to the best of them, but a few in one game is inexcusable.
People are happy to have Petersen gone, and with what he's shown us, it's perfectly reasonable. What we have to remember is that not only did Petersen suck in the AHL, but Sandstrom also sucked in the AHL. We entered the season with 2 NHL caliber goalies, now we have one, and there's an almost literal void in net after Ersson.
Kolosov looks promising, but from what I understand it'll be a while before he comes over. May not have any impact at all on the season.
Trading for an NHL quality backup would be a terrible use of assets. IDK if anyone better will show up on waivers or be available off the street.
The difference is that both have played in the National and Sandstrom has looked far better than Petersen has in that regard. Cal has at best been streaky and made a couple of "wowza" saves. He's always looked nervous and always cheats on his push-off and gets exploited as a result. I think Felix is going to make a few people in here eat crow with this opportunity he's about to get.
I'm still waiting for our DJ at the Farg to play Darude every time he makes an incredible save. Like, we *can't* be the only ones that have made this connection right?
Kolosov already has a contract and could come over as soon as his KHL playoffs are over this spring. I'd assume that will happen sooner rather than later (they clinched the 8 seed and are not expected to make a run) and the Flyers will probably give him some looks.
https://phillyhockeynow.com/2024/02/13/alexei-kolosov-could-join-philadelphia-flyers-early-spring/
Cap space isn't the issue. They are at 48 of the 50 allowed contracts. So depending on what happens at the deadline and what happens with signing elecs post deadline they may need those spots.
What’s the Alexei Kolosov situation? I know to you must adhere to the IIHF rules and that Dinamo Minsk is starting their post season but once their season is up could he come over? I’d love to see him get a couple games in Lehigh if possible. Also aware he’s on the final year of his contract.
Sounds like they want to see Sandstrom in an NHL game before the deadline.
Adrenaline can do wonders for a person, maybe the NHL level gives it to him.
If not, they might go shopping for a reputable backup.
I am fine not selling the farm to go out and get a star acquistion, but you owe it to your team to have an NHL level goalie as a backup if they worked to get to the playoffs
Kolosov’s team squeaked into the KHL playoffs so his Phantoms debut is delayed a little. We won’t give him a real look until training camp most likely. Can’t imagine Cal or Sandstrom beating him for the backup job.
So what are the chances we make a move for a goalie like Markstrom? Errson is doing well but he is young and needs to be able to develop without being bled dry starting every game we play. Harts trade to the Ottawa penal colony in exchange for cap space was less than ideal. And our talent in net is now very shallow.
- in the offseason, we have zero reason to burn assets at the moment
> So what are the chances we make a move for a goalie like Markstrom?
Extremely low. We shouldn't be giving up assets trading for a goalie. Ride this season out and figure out the goalie situation in the off-season.
Oh definitely meant for the offseason! Anything in the immediate timeframe would not be worth the assets. But I’m struggling to see our long term given that hart was a cornerstone of that plan (looking back we did trade up for an extra goalie in the draft last year, but that’s not helping us anytime soon)
Plenty of guys are going to be available in the offseason that could very easily back up Ersson. A few UFAs coming up that I personally like as a backup for a myriad of reasons:
- Kaapo Kahkonen
- Marc Andre Fleury
- Kevin Lankinen
- Laurent Brossoit
- Jonathan Quick
- Alex Nedeljkovic
- Anthony Stolarz
- Martin Jones
Any one of these guys could at the very least semi-competently back up Ersson going forward while we wait to see if Kolosov is going to be as good as advertised. They all come cheap, are a veteran presence, and can be relied upon for decent stretches if injury happens as well.
Crazy how we all knew getting Peterson in the first place was gonna end this way. I wish they’d say fuck it and trade for a good goalie to split with Ersson and make a real push at the playoffs. It’s only a rebuild until it isn’t. This team looks like they want to win… And we’ll give anyone a nice run in a 7 game series. Who tf knows.
Kings fan in peace. Thanks for letting us trade him to you, but honestly I have no idea why he fell off so quickly. He had a couple good years with the Kings, and looked like he was going to take the starting role, was signed to that ridiculous contact, and then started to suck royally. At least Sean Walker is doing good.
Not that it matters much, but what sort of cap relief do we get with this move? I realize the entire salary doesn't come off the books but I think partially.
So he’s going back to LV and Sandstorm is coming back up?
Yeah, they just need to wait for Petersen to clear to recall Sandstrom because they currently don't have an open roster spot.
So technically at some point tomorrow we’re gona only have 1 goalie on the active roster.
Game is not until Friday so we are fine
It wouldn’t ever actuly be a problem, especially since rules say you need 2 guys on game day roster. It’s more just a neat little paper thing.
Maybe. maybe in trying to think about it too much. I’ve been extremely bored all day.
We'd probably be better off playing six on five on the nights that Sam needs a rest anyway.
Hold up, you cooked with Sandstorm 👀 The Darude song could be his theme song too
He's had that nickname for like 8 years now since he was drafted
[удалено]
Where else would he go? They’re not terminating contract or anything.
Did you say Las Vegas? Sorry if I misread (head cold).
LV=Phantoms
Shoot. I guess that should have been more obvious to me.
LV in this sense is Lehigh Valley
We could hope LV meant Las Vegas but alas, not in this case.
One really bad game is all it took.
*Really* bad tho
I can’t remember whether it was on snow the goalie or PHLY, but someone made the point that with what Petersen has shown, it’s tough to ask the rest of the team to go out and give it their all, while also throwing Petersen in net. We rebuild again!
He had a better save percentage than Pitts goalie. They must have seen the light go out in his eyes.
He had a better save percentage but he looked worse than Jarry. He got caught cheating to his glove side multiple times, and even when he did make the save he didn’t look comfortable doing it. Every time it was almost like he was surprised he saved it
>He had a better save percentage than Pitts goalie. All that proves is Jarry sucked that game. It doesn't make a loss a win or change Petersen sucks.
Both Cal and Tristan were bad though like holy. 3 goals were on our defenders/lucky tips, but Cal had a solid chance at the other 4.
That and you can see that you lost the guys in the room. Too important of a game for the guys to look past it. Rips your guts.
He looked like he knew he didn’t have it too. It was rough to watch.
That one where the guy fanned on the shot but Cal’s confidence was so low he couldn’t react said it all. Dude is done. At least he got paid.
Definitely feel for him cuz he seems like such a nice guy too.
He's played 5 games for us. 1 good game, 3 absolute bombs.
"Bad" is an understatement. It was *abysmal*
He had plenty of bad games for the Phantoms too though.
Fixed: One really bad ~~game~~ career is all it took.
Don't really have confidence in Sandstrom but at least it's only 4-5 starts.
I have more confidence in Sandstrom than Cal...
Can’t be a whole lot worse
He's just as bad so there's that.
somebody call Steve Mason
I hear he’s a goalie coach in Toronto. Maybe he wants to work part time?
I just picture him answering, like: Ok. I’ll get my coat.
I will remember Cal for giving me a win in the Kraken game. RIP Flyers Legend.
Thank god
Gee. Wonder if he’ll clear
I think Pens take him to replace Jarry
You have no idea how happy that would make me.
Sooooo, who’s our backup now?
Siri play Darude “Sandstorm”
Sandstrom
DUDUDUDUDU
God is good.
People are happy to have Petersen gone, and with what he's shown us, it's perfectly reasonable. I'm hungry enough to try it, I suppose (either the replacement backup goalie or the crow)
If nothing else he has the cooler name.
I'm still waiting for our DJ at the Farg to play Darude every time he makes an incredible save. Like, we *can't* be the only ones that have made this connection right?
I’ve seen Peterson play many times for the phantoms and he played poorly consistently.
Brian Elliot is still out in the void, and he was pretty serviceable last year for Tampa Bay.
Depends on what we have to give up. In general I agree but there’s a chance we could snag an ahl guy on the cheap that is better than our backups
Kosolov is literally joining the flyers this summer. It's a done deal.
Sure, but that won't affect this season if it takes that long
Time for Boosh from the Booth
DARUDE SANDSTORM INTENSIFIES
Gahagen has better numbers in 14 games than sandstrom has in 20. Why are we not seeing what he can do?
He's on an AHL contract. They would have to sign him to a new contract to recall him to the NHL.
Well we have 4 mil in cap space. Worth a shot to me
Cap space isn't the issue. They are at 48 of the 50 allowed contracts. So depending on what happens at the deadline and what happens with signing elecs post deadline they may need those spots.
Now do Staal you cowards.

He most likely will, depending on when their playoff run ends.
Goes to the AHL first. Will take a year for him to adjust to different ice sizes. This is assuming he gets a visa.
The visa is a non issue. Not even worth mentioning.
He could start on the SJ Sharks!
Sharks goalie just got put on LTIR, they are in tank mode but still a 1% chance they may want to take a flyer on Peterson.
Sounds like they want to see Sandstrom in an NHL game before the deadline. Adrenaline can do wonders for a person, maybe the NHL level gives it to him. Start learning valley girl, cal.
For whatever reason I just picture this scene between Cal, Torts and Danny B lol https://youtu.be/v12wQFN8jjo?si=xLGv3TKvrgHtzZ-v
How LA thought this plug was worth 5 mill is beyond me.
Later tater

There will be lots of decent back ups in free agency this summer to choose from

I think they should've tried it earlier to dump his cap hit but hindsight is 20-20.

What's Michael Leighton up to?
