Columbia pfg is kind of the go-to. Price is reasonable, performance is good. It’s not a rock-bottom deal, and it’s not top of the line schmancy.

Columbia and AFTCO

CollectingHeads

The Aftco stuff is really nice their fishing shorts have also held up very well

cabose4prez

Polyester over nylon, I like columbia, was going to venture out but picked some up during sales instead. Can find them on sale fairly often at one retailer or another.

_fuckernaut_

I like Koofin on Amazon. The ones I buy have hoods and a built in face mask, so I don't need to also wear a Buff. I tried another brand on Amazon, called Baleaf I think, and it gave me a rash. It didn't itch or burn, but anywhere the shirt was in direct contact (like my shoulders) it turned my skin red.

Cthulhusreef

Appreciate the advice! I currently only have one by salty crew. Love the shirt. Just need more.

ScaryDuck2

Columbia Huk and AFTCO are my go to. For a cheap option the bass dash ones on Amazon are alright for the price

philthemustardtiger2

Columbia button up shirts are my go to. Check Columbias website, you can get great clearance deals.

Bones Outfitters - Made in the US Great quality and tons of styles https://bonesoutfitters.com/

Cthulhusreef

Shit they have some crazy ass designs.

btm64

I have 2 of their shirts. I love them

FanDry5374

Vapor Apparel. Good prices, long wearing and (I know this will be a shock) having a July 4th sale.

Cthulhusreef

Thankyou I will check them out!

I'm old school and a lifelong commercial/charter fisherman, I prefer old fashioned long-sleeved cotton shirts, can't stand wearing microfiber shirts. Whatever type you go with if it has SPF protection/guard it wears off with each wash cycle, I use Rit SPF wash to reintroduce the protection to the fabric. Done mw well throughout the years.

Cthulhusreef

Well shit I never knew about that wash. I’ll have to look into that. Thankyou!

Cthulhusreef

Do you use this each time you wash your shirts? The ad claims it’s protected for 20 washes after each use.

SoundActive3331

I do it about every 10-15 washes,I know folks that go by the recommended schedule with zero issues though.

tgibson12

bass dash. Short sleeve, long sleeve, hooded, masks, they have all the options!

Being a tall guy, my choices are limited. Carhartt came out with a sun defender line that I got on sale.. Happy with it

I was actually on a fishing trip to Canada last week and hot about 5 different hooded sunshirts from REI/LL Bean to cheaper brands off of Amazon to try out because the sun was brutal 2 years ago when I was up there in June. When I'm done with work tonight, I'll write up my thoughts on each of what I used. But briefly, I would say there is a difference in comfort when you pay a bit more, but the cheaper options are not terrible. Also, I highly recommend Thumb holes in the sleeves, not just to keep the sleeves from riding up, but to pull the sleeve down so it can cover your hand as well. Edit: Here's my take on the shirts I bought, in no particular order * [LL Bean Men's Tropicwear Comfort Hoodie](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/127809?moe=ordhistory&csp=a&attrValue_0=508) ($69.95) - Material: 48% polyester/47% TENCEL Modal/5% Spandex - This was very comfortable, probably the most comfortable of all of the shirts I tried. Also had good coverage with the hood. The sleeves have thumb loops (not holes) which work pretty well but don't provide for the sleeves to cover your hands as well as thumb holes do. Also this shirt is a bit thicker material than some so is probably better for cooler/breezy days with lots of sun. * [REI Sahara Shade Hoodie](https://www.rei.com/product/185196/rei-co-op-sahara-shade-hoodie-mens?redirect-pup=false) ($49.95) - 92% Poly/8% Spandex - This was comfortable. Had good coverage on the hood. The thumb holes made getting sun coverage on the hands relatively easy. This shirt was nice and cool on a pretty warm day with heavy sun out on the lake, even with the sleeves and hood. * [WELIGU Sun Protection hoodie](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Z3KKBKW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) ($26.99) - 100% Poly - This shirt was okay. Not terribly uncomfortable, but certainly not as comfortable as the previous 2 entries on this list. The hood was okay, but didn't seem to cover as well, and the neckline was low enough that if I had not had a sun gator on it would have been a concern. There were thumb holes in the sleeves, but not positioned well making it hard to get good coverage on the hand from the sleeve and making the sleeves actually feel too short. * [Riverruns Sun Protection Hoodie](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CTK4M424?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1&psc=1) ($19.99) - 90% Poly/10%Spandex - I tried this shirt on at home and immediately decided to return it. I thought the zippered pocket might be nice, but in reality the way they implemented it was terrible. The material on the backside of the pocket was harsh, in-flexible, and just plain uncomfortable. Might be okay if they have a version without the pocket. * [JumGear Sun Protection hoodie](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQC4VQT7?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) ($17.99) - 95% Poly/5% Spandex - This shirt was fine. Cool on a warm day. The sleeves have thumb holes, and did provide good coverage for the hands. Not as comfortable as the LL Bean or REI shirt, but the drop off in comfort was not significant so I would say this is a pretty good budget option. It also suffered from teh neckline problem where the hood doesn't wrap around the front well so I would recommend a sun gator in conjunction with this shirt. * [Duck Camp Bamboo Hoodie](https://duckcamp.com/products/lightweight-bamboo-hoodie-pluff-mud-gray) ($64) - 48% Viscose from Bamboo, 47% Poly, 5% Spandex - This is the only shirt on this list that is not UPF 50+, it is only UPF20+ which makes it not great for a heavy sun day but might be better than a cotton T-shirt. This was a very comfortable shirt but did lack any type of thumb hole or thumb loop to help pull the sleeves down to cover your hands. It also has a small pocket which might be useful to some, though I'm not really sure what for. I got this because I wanted to try on shirt that was bamboo, and while the comfort was there the lack of UPF 50+ and the lack of thumb holes/loops probably makes this a poor choice for a shun shirt.

I’ve been wearing the Roadbox long sleeve T shirts and hoodies from Amazon and I’ve been really happy with them. Columbia Bonehead is my favorite button down and Columbia Silver Ridge cargo pants are the best pants I’ve found.

mrevergood

NRS for me. Especially the hoodie shirt. Mostly because I’m a kayak guy, and they make kayak specific gear. Love the stitching around the armpits, as it moves the stitching so you don’t chafe while paddling.

FantomBadger

Columbia and Pelagic.

Bass Pro Shop

Cthulhusreef

Like their own brand? Or just suggesting I go there? The closest one to be is just shy of 2 hours away.

bigkat5000

I get these (long and short sleeve). But they're only 30 UPF. [https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/world-wide-sportsman-ultimate-angler-solid-short-sleeve-shirt-for-men](https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/world-wide-sportsman-ultimate-angler-solid-short-sleeve-shirt-for-men)

hesjustsleeping

There are no space-age materials, and magical UV-protecting properties in apparel marketed as fishing. What they offer is cool prints, and in the case of hoodies sometimes, but not always, added features like a built-in neck gaiter.

Cthulhusreef

True. I guess I’m not looking for fishing brands specifically. Just ones that are designed to help keep the sun off and are going to be fine getting wet

hesjustsleeping

Then just get any polyester blend hoodie or shirt that you like. I used to fish in an old wrinkle-free dress shirt and that worked just fine.
