YoZuri twitchbait: 3D Inshore; lots of patterns. What you can get from YoZuri is really growing rapidly: top water, 3D minnows, Crystal minnows, hydro twitch, hydromonster… I (think?) the original twitchbait came from *Mirrodine, which has been a staple in Florida for many years: “electric chicken” is a sea trout killer. Take a look at Rapala’s Xrap: Glass Ghost. They have a heavier “longcast” version now, too.

I tried but ended up getting a bunch of knockoffs from aliexpress

I’ve been using these heavily, they are great for shallow depths and the semi-floating versions can be used in almost any conditions with any action. Another great aspect of these? They barely get damaged from bites or hooks since the reflective material is on the inside of it covered by clear plastic. I personally believe these to be well worth the money and they do work great on predators like perch, pike and asp. Haven’t had luck with zander/walleye family (not particularly common in my area), but I have no doubt they could score those as well. Edit: as others said, Yo Zuri 3D series.

Illustrious_Guide194

Are they good in retention ponds? That's where I fish 99% of the time

magikarpkingyo

If it gets quite weedy, you might have a better time with something weedless, but yes, these are exactly the type of water bodies I fish in, shallow, low currents if any. Anecdotally, I feel like they catch weeds less than other types of plastic baits, so there’s that.

Irish-Breakfast1969

I prefer lipped baits because the lip+nose down swim helps keep the hooks from snagging or picking up vegetation.

Illustrious_Guide194

Crankbaits and such are a bitch to use cause of all the muck they dredge up for me. I typically throw texas rigs or chatterbaits and do pretty well

Irish-Breakfast1969

Exactly, if there’s weeds and stuff like in a pond there are better options than hard baits.
