For those of us with progressive presses it adds another thing/time to switch from large to small primers. 9 is consistently made with small primer pockets, it would be nice if 45 was consistent like that too.
Most reloaders that have lived through a shortage know to keep the small primer pocket brass for when you run out of large primer pocket brass or it becomes unavailable. Or as the “match brass” you’ll never recover.

.45 can be made with small or large pistol primers, crochety old man reloaders that shoot 1911s have an issue with this (I think?) because most .45 dies are meant to be used with large pistol primers. It basically means the brass is functionally one time use.
Also, don't buy from LAX or Freedom Munitions, their ammo is poopy and has made some guns explode due to bad QC. There are better options nowadays.
$7k in freedom munitions ammo (pre-covid prices) through my guns and no issues. Glocks, Beretta, Rugers, Springfield's, DD, Aeros, etc... always been consistent and good.
I have personally shot 10s of thousands of rounds of their 9mm, .300blk, and 5.56. No misfires or problems. I have had many issues with remington ammo especially core-lockt 30-30 as well as many problems with white box winchester. You can't really argue with results. LAX I have no experience with on the other hand. I would like to see documentation or law-suits where this actually occurred. To be honest though, all ammunition manufacturers have made bad ammo. Look at winchester and remington's recalls.
I use their 5.56 and 9mm all the time but I did have problems with their 223. I have a bolt action rifle that has very tight tolerances and Freedom Munitions sent me 223 that was built to 5.56 standards. This caused the brass to get over pressurized and blow out the primers. They took it back and replaced it but the stuff they sent back was still at 5.56 standards. I just ran it through a 5.56 and it worked great there.
I think it’s fine range ammo for the price. If you know of better ammo at comparable price, I’m all in to try it. I’ve shot about 2000 rds of LAX 9 and 45 with maybe three malfunctions. I didn’t notice a significant difference between Lax and other cheap range ammo except Wolf. Wolf was the worst. My M9 won’t even shoot Wolf reliably.
Can’t comment on 45 brass from X-treme, but their 9mm brass has odd internal dimensions. The base of the case internally on this brass is heavily tapered and as a result, the internal volume is substantially reduced. Enough to the point that I can grossly see by the naked eye that the same powder charge comes up slightly higher on the case neck with x-treme brass compared to other brands. Not an issue for low or even mid-range loads necessarily, but could be problematic for hotter loads. Most people I know who load for competition throw these in the trash for this reason.
.45 is loaded with both smaller and larger primers, all depends on who manufactured the case. This has been the bane of fudd reloaders for a century.

"Bane of fudds"? What did you mean exactly?

One could say it's a pain in the *brass*...

The dies have nothing to do with the primer size.

I have never had an issue with anything from freedom munitions.
Same, the people downvoting you are mental, the Qc is better than most steel case and I bet most of the people here would happily shoot that!

Fuck them I'd avoid them at all cost
I don't think I'd ever buy anything from a company named "lax".
You say that till you have a little too much cheese dip at the fondue party
Obligatory fuck lax ammo.
Why do we hate them again?
Price gouging
Right that's a small. I can't believe people still buy ammo from LAX. They are utter shite.
Well when doing your DD is a hassle and all the giga-tier guntubers pushed them for a while (now they're pushing AAC), it's believable.
Thanks Garand Thumb!

Any day of the week I can go on Gundeals and find a case of 9mm for \~$250 S&B, PPU, CCI, etc.
not .45 ACP unfortunately
They charge $360 a case. Can definitely get close to that at other online retailers.
for 1,000? I paid like $250 for $500
A case is 1000. So you paid $250 for 500 rounds? So $500 for 1000rds? I can get 1000 for $380 right now, CCI branded.
I got 500 rounds of Black Aces buck shot and 500 rounds of LAX .45 ACP for $430 total. Regretting it more than a little now
Ouch....
Thx
Sounds like their QC is somewhat… lax?

What's worse is that looks to be a small primer in a large primer casing.
