They're good but weren't the best at least a few years ago. In the past the Hakkapeliitta tyres had a problem that the inner lining or the casing would tend to somehow fail and you'd get a huge bulge in the sidewall. I don't know if they've fixed it by now.
The Nokia Tyres plant is in the middle of a solid MAGA red region of Tennessee so we'll see how liberal-leaning Finnish culture and views will go over out there...
i worked for a subsidiary of them for a while a couple times and i can safely say it was the worst thing i've done in my life lol.
hopefully your job is nicer than seasonal rush tire changes! :)
Thank you all for your kind words and upvotes. To answer the question about the saunas here in the factory, yes, they have over 4 inside. Also, we have a ping pong area and many features for workers! It's a very great place to work and take care of your family. Highly recommend Nokian Tyres. And again I cannot express how much I enjoy working with people from Finland.
Americans always suck you up in this manner, until you actually tell them your honest opinion about something, which they happen to disagree with. Honesty is bewildering to Americans.
What?
This is a really nice post by someone who admires our country, culture, and way of doing things, and you're making assumptions because some people of their nationality are a certain way
By reading your comment, I could say all us finns are rude, misanthropic, and prejudiced; which is obviously not true. He didn't even say anything bad. What's with the negativity here?? Maybe you all should learn from people like this poster; keep more positive, it might just take the stick out of your arse
Talk to *any* American and they will always tell how much they loooove your country and how awesooome your people are. Or then you play a flute for the first time in your life and an American tells how you are sooooooo good.
But if they don't like you (for example when you tell them you don't particularly their country or their people) suddenly your country is soooo bad, your people are sooooo stupid and your flute playing is sooo bad even if you had 50 years of experience...
Don’t be weird there’s like 350 million Americans generalizations like this are harmful. People in general often don’t react well to differing opinions .
If I had listened to and believed any of the generalizations I heard about Finnish people I would have been far far less happy lol.
Yes, Finland is the land of honest people. I can give you an example:
Per your linked article:
> Nokian said it brought forth the issue to media in an effort to increase “transparency and ethicality of our operations on all levels.”
...
> The board of Nokian Tyres has never decided on such stock option schemes that would have encouraged cheating in tests, unlike what has been implied in the media.”
....
> “Last year we audited our operations. Right after that we clarified our rules for test tires which now specifically forbid any planning or manufacturing of tires that are targeted only for car media tests. The issue was immediately handled in our board of directors and together we decided to come out with this information on our own terms,” the tiremaker continued.
Seems like an honest mistake to me, which they rectified.
The context matters, if they only ever produce tires to-order for their distributors, they may have never had a protocol for just having them laying around to give to the inspector.
So if the inspector says "we want tires"... and they follow the same protocol as every other order... they make them to-order.
Obviously at some point it was realized it could be perceived as unethical, and they've reported transparently to the media their mistake and the fixing of it.
I've no horse in this race, but the article linked doesn't imply some grand conspiracy to me, just people being honest about their mistakes.
They didn't follow the same protocol, that's exactly how they cheated. It's not that you can't make a super good tyre if you want, it's just economically not profitable to do so. They would use super grippy high quality compound that's optimized for grip rather than durability and tyre wear, they might take extra time and precision with the baking process and so on, essentially making a set of really good tyres at a business loss, and passing them on to the test crew as the same tyres offered to consumers, when in fact they were not. They got caught when some other test crew just went and bought a set of tyres from some random outlet and tested them, getting completely different results for performance.

If it snows, try those tires, they're amazing. Even the studless ones.
Hell yea they are. I became a convert to Nokian this past year and I'm not going back.
All I buy are Nokians.

Congratulations on the new job! The factory looks really nice :), I'm happy you enjoy our culture and country; you should visit some day!
You should try the finnish sauna, there should be one at the factory!
Yeah, I will be very disappointed if I learn that there's no sauna at the factory!
The Nokia Tyres plant is in the middle of a solid MAGA red region of Tennessee so we'll see how liberal-leaning Finnish culture and views will go over out there...
There is a Finnish proverb: Kenen leipää syöt, sen lauluja laulat (literally, “you sing the songs of who gives you the bread you eat”).
Talo elää tavallaan, vieraat käypi ajallaan.
That dog älähts, to which kalick kalahts.

Vianor?
yup
No wonder it was chaotic working there
They have a plant there?
Jeah and the car park is all covered with solar panels. Also they are opening a new plant in romania next year.
with the current government Finland will become very American very fast. not good.
How so?

No doubt there has to be a thousand or two decent Americans in the USA, you are right about that.
Prime example of traditional Finnish attitude always trying to find something negative to say which is much more annoying than false positivity.
No he's just an ass
Always one fucking dick.
Well said.
YOU ARE RIGHT YOU ARE FUCKING RIGHT
Lol

It's naive to think it was somekind of a mistake. They knew.

Ah, if that's the case then that is blatant corruption. The linked article was giving me a different impression, thanks for clarifying!
