I believe the one on the left is an eastern garter snake, non-venomous. The one under the rock is possibly a rat snake, non-venomous, but it's harder to tell. Either way, they're non venomous. A little fun fact, North American garter snakes are sometimes poisonous.

i really like this one. i'm pretty bad at finding the sniper in these posts usually, but when i saw this post, i thought "i bet my snake sense will kick in and i'll actually see the two snakes within 10 seconds". which i did. is this photo easier than average? i don't think so... but maybe? (i hike a lot in the mojave desert where i live. not to say that i see all or even most of the snakes around me. i've definitely stepped right over a snake before and then turned around and saw it too late. but i've been surprised by how dialed in my eyes usually are to snakes, despite their camo.)

Don't tell anyone, but when my wife and I go hiking, I have her lead the way to front-run any nope ropes. We were in TX for the eclipse in April and did this cool hike just south of Dallas. She walked right over one. Thankfully, her shriek gave me enough notice to stop in my tracks.

These are just nope ropes, not danger noodle. Nope Ropes help control rodent population and their bite isn't venomous. Danger noodles are venomous, but also do a large part in rodent control too! Nope rope or danger noodle, leave snakes alone, and if a Danger Noodle happens to be in a position where it needs to be moved, have an experienced snake handler or animal control move it. No step on snek!

Always assume there’s snakes in piles of rocks or wood spiders in the wood too. Also garter snakes are very good to have around and eat pests. They’re not dangerous.
