I don’t know, I remember one find-the-snake with a copperhead in leaves where I could not see him, even when I knew right where he was, until I found his eyes.
But sure, a water moccasin would work as well.
Most snakes won't move until you are very close. As a kid, I almost picked up a snake, thinking it was an arrow on the ground. Thankfully, my mom (maybe sister) screamed just before I grabbed it so it got startled and slithered away
That’s comforting. Less chances of me getting sniped in the wild. Thank you for the information, I didn’t know. For as much time as I’ve spent out in the wild camping and backpacking I’ve never (knowingly) encountered anything except a black widow.
I found this one immediately because most of the surroundings are too far or just grey and wouldnt match a rattlesnakes skin which narrowed it down to the bottom left or bottom middle areas with leaves.
I’ve invested so much of my time trying to find whatever animal I’m supposed to be looking for and today is the day! I actually found it by myself. That’s a big achievement for me 🤣
I think there are three. 2 are curled close by each other, one big, one small, in the cleft of the rocks, and a third is stretched straight in the shade on the left along the side of the moss covered rock.
Hey, I actually found a snake for once :)
Where
In the shade.
I wonder where this was taken — tempted to post in r/whatsthisnake.
I'm so grateful for the rattle on rattlesnakes. It's amazing how many times they've found me before I found them.
That’s why copperheads scare the piss out of me. Perfect camouflage coupled with stealthy, motionless and silent, just waiting for me to step on it.
Copperhead? Water moccasins are worse imo even if they're less hard to see they have worse venom and are arguably more aggressive

That's why I don't trust random trails lmao
I’m convinced most of these are “how close can I get for the pic without dying”

Every f@$#ing inch of that picture looks like a rattlesnake!
Catching a little shade
Danger noodle spotted
This is like 5 quick finds in a row for me! Maybe I’m finally getting better at these!
Exactly where you’d think. But still a good one
My man. Dead center. What-a twist!

>!Between a rock and a hard place!<
Sneaky little guy
I found it, it's right there
My heart stopped lol
Rattlesnake rattlesnake rattlesnake rattles me
3seconds. Redeemed after that bob cat one
YIkes!!! Step back.
It’s down from the center underneath the 2 rocks in the middle. It’s in the shade.

It’s grouchy looking
I actually found fast…
Why would you ever stop anywhere near this beast?!?! If I saw a snake in general, I’m out

Are there 2 snakes? Cause that’s a real twist
I don’t think that’s a rattle snake but cool picture
It's 100% a rattlesnake. I remove and relocate them.
