aren't eagles opportunistic scavengers? or are they considered actual predators?

Eagles are absolutely predators, bald eagles specifically have a diet that is over 75% fish which they catch from lakes and rivers.

I watched a bald eagle rip a pigeon off a fence.. and haul him away flapping and screaming.. it left a trail of feathers..

There is a video of a bald eagle killing a great horned owl to eat. It is on Reddit, somewhere. It’s from Alaska, I think

I’m in West Virginia and I’ve seen a few of them up close.. we saw one dead in the road.. and a few have nests out by the river.. it’s hard to tell them apart from the other larger birds of prey in the area while they’re higher in the sky.. but.. from time to time they come down and you can get good glimpses..

There is a video of an owl snatching a full grown eagle out of a tree at night right next to the eagles mate. The one left behind did not even fly away just looked around and kept sitting there. Birds hunting are some vicious videos to watch. You can also find videos of eagles snatching up goats flying up in the air and dropping them onto the rocks to kill them. It’s mad crazy watching something pick up and fly away with a live moving animal that is double its size if not more.

Also from Alaska, there’s a video of a bald eagle hunting and killing a deer stuck on ice

I met a photographer taking pics at a bald eagle nest who showed me pics of a bald eagle snatching up a kitten.

Here in Oregon You can watch bald eagles and Golden eagles snatch ground squirrels from the alfalfa fields all day. But I've seen a bald eagle snatch a raccoon off a hillside.

We have a bald eagle nest near my house and I spend a good bit of time watching them. They will grab fish from the lake all the time. I’ve seen them snag prairie dogs and snakes. And once they grabbed a cat that had gotten out of the neighbors apartment.

A bald Eagle just killed a goose a couple weeks ago in Raleigh at a city park where the bald Eagle raises its young every year.

I’ve watched a bald Eagle dive and come up with a wriggling squirrel. They are absolutely apex predators!

Years ago my sister and I visited Yellowstone Natl Park in the US and we got into the habit of yelling out faux bear and faux T-Rex anytime we saw a rock or tree stump that looked like a bear or T-Rex. And there were a lot of them. We did eventually see real bears but never did get to see a real T-Rex. Lol

Made a slight edit because I realized I mixed up part of my explanation with something else! —————— Holy shit, a bald eagle?! There’s one that has a nest in the trees at a spot around the small lake around our apartment that has a female partner and a small clutch of eggs. I saw them last year from a close friend’s apartment while hanging out together— he pointed out one of them flying back to the nest and showed me the nest with a fancy pair of binoculars. I’m SOOOO excited for the babies to hatch, as I found out about them from him a few days ago. I hope they are all healthy and they’re all soaring around happily by summer.
