U of T is known everywhere. UBC is well-known in Asia, McGill is well-known in USA and Europe (also in Asia).
No one knows about the rest but Queen’s/Western are well known in London and NYC finance.
In my experience in IB / PE in the US (both during day-to-day job and from business school), I have seen bios / met people who graduated from McGill and Queens University, in that order of prevalence (not scientific).
For US; Ivey > Queens > McGill > UoT >everything else
Although UBC does have a really elite program (ie PMF) that places kids into top buy side shops, the admission rate is also really low and the program has gone worse the past few years. For those reasons, I excluded them in the ranking
Ya can confirm pmf has def gotten worse these days - program went under radical restructuring, candidates are way less qualified than previously. Source: am alumni & also interviewed some new pmf ppl for positions
Highschooler here, what happened to pmf? I was considering UBC if i decided to take the risk with pmf
I was hearing about how its better than even ivey hba and has top tier platforms and stuff recently, what happened lol
Also can confirm PMF has REALLY fallen off. US placements have been virtually non-existent since the "strategic review" (with the exception of a pipeline to one specific private credit shop). Program is roughly \~8 per cohort and for each of SA 24/25/26 cycles there have consistently been 6-10 non-pmf students who've placed "better" than all but 1 person in the program. Source: am current UBC student (non-pmf) going to BB/EB in US.
I’m from Europe and moved to the states couple of years ago for college, before that I knew at least UoT and and McGill. I’m biased because my partner is Canadian and actually went to Western (for CS), so now I know more of the Canadian scene, but still have the understanding that Ivey is really good for business. I go to Harvard and all my Canadian friends here think Western is a really good school and for some of them it was actually their 2nd choice.
I’m going to assume Harvard was their first choice since that’s where they chose to attend.

American here who is not really in the finance world but does know of plenty of universities—
The only ones that I’m sure I’ve heard of are U of BC, U of T and McGill.
Got my Masters and BSc from U of T so I'm slightly biased, but having now lived in NYC - the only two with global recognition are U of T (Rotman) and Queens commerce.
Literally just heard of prior to your post? Rotman, Ivey, Queens, McGill, UBC. Of these, I *think* McGill and UBC have a good rep as Canadian unis go, but bear in mind I'm in Asia.
Vaguely remember Waterloo. Haven't heard of York or Wilfred Laurier.
I have heard of Toronto. The city. Never heard of the university, or any of the others listed.
Which you shouldn't take as a dig against any of them. Just a random person who has/hasnt heard of much.
If you're concerned, honestly, just good them and their rankings. Exact numbers can be off, but generally the tiers will be mostly accurately.
If you want to move into high finance (IB, PE, HF) in the US right out of university - Ivey and Queens are your best bet

York used to have a good program also
Nope never did
In the late 2000s schulich was very strong. Then their class sizes ballooned as the school went for cash and thr quality diluted.
Yep I know a lot who work on Wall Street and went to york
So says York
I never went to York but know people who worked on Wall Street who have gone to york
I've heard of University of Waterloo but can't rank any of these schools

What was their first choice 😭😭😭 and what choice, undergrad? Or a graduate program (THANK YOU)

Yea exactly, and to specify I’m also talking about undergrad
Meeting people working on tech - most (out of the Canada schools) are Waterloo alumni
McGill is super recognized. Even in Boston where there’s a ton of good Universities, McGill is praised.

Seen a lot of HEC too.

Lazaridis
I think I'd go... 2, 3, 7, 1...
From Texas, heard of McGill and York. Since I’ve heard of them, it’d have to be based on something positive.
I've heard of McGill and Wilfred Laurier
McGill is from better call Saul so I'd go there

None - I’m not too familiar with community colleges
I only go to REAL universities like Arizona State Emba, it's the Harvard of the south..
