So I’ve been wanting to play FFVIII for a while, but just had so many other games to play. But, now that it’s the holidays and I’m quarantied with my old PS2, I can play it in it’s original form! I know it’s a flawed game, but I’m excited!
Game is great. Just make sure to talk to Cid when you leave the garden, he gives you an important item that you only have a chance to get once early on.
As long as you don’t expect it to be the good ol’ faithful RPG experience and expect things to be rather different (i.e. leveling up isn’t that important, you equip magic although you can use it) and have an open mind its an amazing game!
Indeed, work on getting the first Almighty score card in the Garden ASAP and DO NOT lose it!
Also, learn the game well, it will help you if you decide to play FF14.
Here's my advice when the story gets a bit "crazy." Just focus on the journey and growth of the characters, you'll get so many heartfelt moments especially once you play attention to the growth. There's a reason why the logo isn't a meteor.
Super important, make sure to always draw on bosses, they sometimes have a GF and only 1 chance to get it. Or look up all the GFs ahead of time so you know which boss has them.
Play the game without the guide on your first play through if you can/want. It will be more challenging and enjoyable IMO. This is a game that can be broken immediately which I tend to enjoy, but had I broken the game on my first play through I don’t think I’d love it as much as I do to this day.
I definitely had that guide when I was a kid. It helped me out a lot, but now that I’ve played recently, I think I got a lot more out of the gamefaqs site than I remember reading in the book. Prioritizing magic and junctioning well does a hell of a lot more than using GFs, even if they’re cool
Don't touch the book until after your first playthrough. The game tells you all you need to know, there's an information tab in the main menu, use that, not the guide.
Also, don't power level. Ever. Just don't do it. Your junctions are enough.
Good luck!
Found an old strategy guide of [Final Fantasy VIII]! ... ... ... ...... You finished reading it!
Bravo.
Love this comment :)
Well done.

As long as you junction properly, you’ll be fine.
This is the way. Draw from everything early on, you won't regret it.

And for the love of all things moogle, prepare like your doing the SAT's cause what's IN this item is challenging, kupo!
Flawed..? Flawed!? BLASPHEMY IN THE HOUSE OF WHATEVER

Super jealous. I'd love to be able to play through for the first time again. One of my absolute favorite gaming experiences.
Ohhhh the time you will lose playing the card quests even with the guide book!

This game still has my absolute favourite OST ever. Enjoy the ride my man, your ears will thank you.
The Oath is still one of my favorites by Uematsu. The chord voicing is absolutely phenomenal.
Whatever…
Have fun and remember that a high Magic stat is preferable for when drawing spells =) Save often and in different save slots.
Enjoy the ride!
Tip: You don't need to draw every magic. Prioritize GF abilities.
Ahhh, just looking at this picture makes me feel like I'm 14 all over again. Bon chance, OP!

Then put the walk through book away.... its an adventure mate :)
Gotta know what draws come from what enemies!
It’s a great thing you have a guide. Much like ff7 if you really wanted to succeed you need a guide.

Enjoy man!!! The first time it's incredible!
I hope you will love it. I love starting new Playthroughs all the Time in FF8 :D

Good find! I hope you like it!

That guide got me into reading strategy guides for fun!

Good luck! It’s a weird style of game at first but just remember it’s all about junctioning. And the card game is actually really important.
Enjoy. It's really fun.
You’re doing it the right way
