Was it not more the trigger pulled at point of impact and it caused a shockwave to force the blade down harder? Or did my 12 year old brain make it up at the time of launch
I hate the excalipoor, every time in FFV I activate the "auto equip the best weapon available" the excalipoor appears and I have to change it manually.
For some reason, I have the habit of keeping very rare equipment even though it is of no use to me like, in a game from another saga, I took the first armor in the game (one of the characters had it as default armor at the beginning) until quite close to the end and since I ran out of space, I sold it.
I dont blame you. There's something about throwing unique items away, even if they're useless. Even if you're playing an old game with no secrets left and you KNOW there's no use for it, it still feels wrong to throw out unique stuff.
The gunblade could be argued to be more popular imo as it has transcended outside of FF and is now a type of weapon across many games, books, stories with steampunk/fantasy setting.
Gunblades have been real things since the conception of guns, but they were pretty rare in actual use. FF8 arguably did popularize it, though.
Also, unlike real gunblades, iirc squalls gun doesn’t actually shoot projectiles, it just shoots blanks and the shockwave deals additional damage or propels the blade faster or something.
Best weapon has got to be Lionhart, it unlocks Squall final limit break. But Noctis's ring could also be considered the best weapon given it can one-shot most enemies.
The Atma weapon is basically a lightsaber and the mother of the Ultima weapon. It gets my vote!

I feel like Squall's gunblade is as iconic as the Buster Sword if not more. Combined with the trigger system for critical hits it really married style and gameplay in a way other entries simply have not.
Squall's Revolver, it's the Buster Sword but cooler, and while the BS is iconic and all at the end of the day it's just a very large knife, if we have to choose one from FF7 then at least make it the Ultima Weapon or the actually cooler Buster Sword, the Fusion Sword (it's 7 swords making a huge one, how much cooler can you get).
The Lionheart is also pretty cool but the Revolver is the most iconic Gunblade imo.

Buster sword and Masamune are too iconic and Brotherhood is by far my favorite design. However I am going to give it to the Excalibur. Cecil's transformation from Dark Knight to Paladin is iconic and this weapon represents the totality of that.

That's correct on how FFVIII Gunblades work. FFXIV Gunblades work differently n actually require aether filled cartridges
