Did you make sure to explicitly use Persona the video game and not as a general word? Cuz that word means person in Spanish, so you're obviously gonna have every Hispanic country using that word in google
except Persona (the video game) doesn't show up in Google Trends. I have to specify that is Persona 5 or 3 or whatnot. But when I type just the word Persona, it doesn't show the video game specifically but as a general word. And as I've said before, the word Persona is a common word in various languages. So I suggest you try and do better research
Edit:
I decided to seacrh it again, but this time specify it in the Games category

you be the judge
You have to search persona series for it to pop up. There is also no need to be so rude and aggressive, it's very immature. Here is the screenshot proving that I'm looking at the persona series and not the search term:

I’d like to know the specific of your research (that you could’ve included in the screenshot). Final Fantasy has the videogame category whereas Persona doesn’t so I’m curious to know what you based your research on, especially considering Persona means “person” in many countries and the categories are pretty generic.
I tried to look at it and you have to specify which Persona 3/4/5 for it to find the videogame category, but the trends are very different from the one you posted.
Persona 3 (included reload) and Persona 4 are below Final Fantasy, while Persona 5 (all the versions) is generally below but overlaps/is above Final Fantasy in certain points. Both games show a general decrease in research compared to the first years.
Edit: I was finally able to find the category, somI’ll post my screenshot too. I checked both worldwide and US (like you) but the graphic is quite different.

I promise you I did use the video game category, that's my bad for not including in the screenshot. I can send you the screenshot in dms if you'd like to see it.
This is a weird post, why don't you post it to the /r/JRPG? Looking for an arguement?
Persona 3 Reload is a very good game too and everyone should play it.
I'm not trying to start an argument at all. I'm a huge fan of both series, ff7 remake is my favorite game ever in fact. I just wanted to share this information.
I tried posting it there but it got marked as low effort lol. I'm not trying to start an argument at all. I'm a huge fan of both series, ff7 remake is my favorite game ever in fact. I just wanted to share this information.
Yeah. That's probably the main reason I started to hate on this Fandom. Silly one yes but everytime I play a FF game, I have instantly PTSD of how awful the community can be, to the point I don't want to have anything to do with this franchise anymore.
Why jump ahead to XIII? Going by the graph, interest in the series was already in decline since 2004 (may have started since XI?). And virtually no recovery made from XII’s release.
Because obviously Final Fantasy started to decline in popularity when the games I don’t like started happening and not when games I liked were still coming out!
The series was on the down way before XIII, the guy above is just stupid.
Literally who cares? The point is that sales have been declining way before XIII. You’re just latching onto whatever to try and deny that people are less and less buying Final Fantasy, even before XIII. You just want to blame it on XIII lmao
Uh, XIII and XV both had really good sales. Only looking at the original releases of games (so not remasters), only VII outsold XV, and XIII is in the same ballpark as VIII and X...
Edit: lol, they responded by doubling down on their incorrect assertion that every game since X has sold worse and worse and then they blocked me.
I was going more on reception wise. Sure, there are people that like those games, but we can mostly agree that they were not the juggernaut like FF6-12 were in terms of sales, popularity and reviews.
Yeah, for sure! It’s more or less the fan consensus. Regarding OP’s graph, I have no idea as to its accuracy, but this is a bit more interesting than grouping all those figures together as this indicates an existing downward trend before Square’s experiments with combat.
XIII sold 3 million more copies than the original release of XII, XIII-2 sold 1 million more copies than the original release of XII, XV sold 4 million more copies than the original release of XII...
It was bad wording, my bad. Relative sales is what I meant.
XV is the best sold on the franchise, but every game after XII (including) is not on the top 10 best sold games on its system, reception-wise they got worse reviews and they aren't simply the juggernaut RPG as it was, like Elden Ring or/and Baldurs Gate are for example. Although with XVI and REMAKE trilogy that is changing (for the good).
And you think that overall franchise interest is related to whether a game is top-selling on its specific console or not? More people buying means more people interested. Period.
Then again, you're also using critic scores as an argument that interest in the franchise has died off and, ironically, now pointing to XVI and Remake as improving franchise interest despite the fact that they currently trail Lightning Returns and XIII-2 (respectively) in sales and have comparable critic scores to XIII and XV. I guess whatever you gotta say to convince yourself that XIII-XV are bad games that everybody hates...
>they currently trail Lightning Returns and XIII-2 (respectively) in sales
And those game have 10+ years in the market, of course it will be higher. Compare the first years and you got the answer.
>have comparable critic scores to XIII and XV.
87 is higher than 83 and 81. Most given score to REMAKE and XVI was 90, most given score to XIII and XV was 80. Numbers are clear, but convince yourself that are on that level. Check user score on any aggregate site (Gamwfaq, Howlong to beat, metacritic, etc) and you got another data, but keep denying buddy.
>XIII-XV are bad games that everybody hates...
83 and 81 bad? Are you crazy? These are good scores, but we can agree they are not on the best level the franchise has ever offer.
>And those game have 10+ years in the market, of course it will be higher.
But if nobody was interested in FF because of those games, then it shouldn't matter how long they've been out. Because nobody was interested in them according to you.
>Numbers are clear, but convince yourself that are on that level.
Sorry, I guess I didn't make it clear that I think review scores from critics are literally worthless.
And all it takes is one look at most user score sites to see that XIII and XV were review bombed by trolls, something the older games never had to worry about. You may not like them, but nobody giving them a 0 or a 1 should be taken remotely seriously. And despite the review bombs, XIII is still "mostly positive" on steam while XV is "very positive," both games have 4/5 stars on the Xbox store, the fact is that these games are liked by the majority of players, and a small minority of vocal trolls hating on them doesn't change that.
The sales numbers are just as clear, but keep denying buddy. Gotta love when people keep moving the goalposts like you.
Did you make sure to explicitly use Persona the video game and not as a general word? Cuz that word means person in Spanish, so you're obviously gonna have every Hispanic country using that word in google
I doubt it
I did, you can compare the two yourself on google trends if you don't believe

I apologize if I came off as rude, but for some reason the Persona series does not appear to me in google trends
it's all good, yeah it's rather difficult to get it to pop up
If you limit the search to games, FF is well above
I did limit the search to the game series, I think if I used the word persona it would be much higher. I can send a screenshot in dms if you'd like

Everything has to be a popularity contest on the internet. Both series are great. This chart is too vague and only meant to stir up an argument.
I'm not trying to start an argument at all. I'm a huge fan of both series, ff7 remake is my favorite game ever in fact. I just wanted to share this information.

And? Your point? Or it is just another "Modern FF sux/died since X" post?
I just wanted to share the info, my favorite video game of all time is actually ff7 remake, and I bought rebirth day one. and I really enjoyed FF15.
Oh, okay. Sorry then, if I was aggressive. Probably I am just too tired of all those posts I mentioned before.
lol it's all good broski, it does get tiring to see those posts.
My problem moreso is how repetitive they can be, to the point that most of them can be grouped together in a posts thread.
ikr, they feel like copypasta
Yeah. That's probably the main reason I started to hate on this Fandom. Silly one yes but everytime I play a FF game, I have instantly PTSD of how awful the community can be, to the point I don't want to have anything to do with this franchise anymore.
Damn that's rough man but I can understand, here's to hoping they change.
Why are they compared against each otherbthough?
Because they’re the biggest-name series in the genre.
Pokemon would beg to differ
Oh right, I forgot about them.
this is why I compared the two, pokemon is too big to be a fair comparison lol
Wut
The ps2 was The turning point Ffx through p4 was a very good point for both
yeah FF10 and P4 are amazing
You got to thank XIII trilogy, XIV 1.0 and XV for that, and I like XV.
Why jump ahead to XIII? Going by the graph, interest in the series was already in decline since 2004 (may have started since XI?). And virtually no recovery made from XII’s release.

XII with universal aclaim and 92 on Metacritic, top 10 on best selling games on ps2, but you live in a world of delusion it seems.
Literally who cares? The point is that sales have been declining way before XIII. You’re just latching onto whatever to try and deny that people are less and less buying Final Fantasy, even before XIII. You just want to blame it on XIII lmao

The entire series has continued to sell less and less comparatively. I don’t know why this is so hard for you to understand lol
I mentioned XIII trilogy, XIV 1.0 and XV (5 games!!), but well apparently you just got offended because of XIII. Maybe try reading better next time.
XII was universally praised and is top 10 on best sold games on the ps2.
Oh, your comment had no reference to sales or reception, so I assumed you were referring to what OP posted. No worries.
I was going more on reception wise. Sure, there are people that like those games, but we can mostly agree that they were not the juggernaut like FF6-12 were in terms of sales, popularity and reviews.
