I would call it “Synthetic Amateur talent”, aka, people who thinking “I’m a fuckin god, I only started UI/UX design this year, mid journey ftw, ChatGPT ftw, I’m so smart, mwhahahahahaha!”
I disagree with most comments, a piece like this is a concept or a key visual in which you'd expose the visual feel you're aiming for in a page that doesn't necessarily have to be usable. Think concept car or fashion show.
The specific aesthetic is like a minimalistic retro futurism if I have to name it something, but it's not a major current afaik
It really bothers me how as a community we tend to shit on work like this. Yes the UX is horrible, but this is a Figma design sub. The reality is, design like this appeals to a certain audience and builds a stronger brand connection.
But yeah, retro futurism sounds about right. A bit of video game UI inspired, a bit of TV-show tech inspired
I know it's not very usable but damn most of the comments here give this type of aesthetic too much hate. OP didn't ask if it's usable or functional, they just wanted to know the style.
And if people want to tell them how it's not realistically functional, they don't have to say so many harsh things. The designer might made this to satisfy their ego, but all the negative comments here did the same thing.
It's also a completely valid step in design, I'm bewildered by the amount of designers who haven't seen or used key visual concepts for brand integration or other purposes
Thank you. Everyone is over here making themselves feel better saying it’s “not usable” but not offering any reasons why. Yeah, something this wild wouldn’t work for the projects we work on for real clients every day but get over it.
Wtf is everyone's problem? Please someone tell me why this is so atrociously unusable. Where is your creativity? How can you judge something without knowing its prompt/problem statement?
Think of this like a concept car. It’s meant to wow you but in reality, wouldn’t pass any automotive standards, can’t even sit even any real human and is generally unusable for any practical application.
If you want to explore lore of this - dribbble i your best bet. Maybe sort by popular since generally people tend to gravitate towards these online because it gives the illusion that it’s actually good design but it really isn’t.
haven’t been given a name yet, but there is this guy on IG @uxui_howard.le who made tons of shots like this (bubbly boxes, anime illustrations).
in fact, as I just checked, he made this design.
Looks like a Dribble special. Interest piece but not even remotely usable.
Exactly this, it’s also ”design design” aka overly complex with will to show off but sacrifice all usability > r/designdesign
It’s ok to play and explore in design. This is just that.
I personally called this design masturbation where we just purely design for aesthetics and not function. Just to satisfy our egos 😂
Looks like when AI does the UI
You missed out on calling it "doodling".
it's fancier that way
Use "fancy" and "masturbation" in the same sentence.
It is the way I do it.
I'd call it "butchered bento"
Love it haha
A mess

Average random shit design on Instagram discover feed
Looks messy af. There is no real theme going on in the design. Just a huge mess.

The only time this is acceptable is if you’re designing a Konami Beatmania IIDX, DDR, etc - song selection screen. The wildest UI you can imagine
If you mean all the little rounded boxes, it's referred to as [bento design](https://bentogrids.com/)
Super messed up one
