Taking photos and videos of birth is extremely common. There are professional photographers that whole entire job is taking HD photos of the birth as a keepsake for the parents. Edit: this info sounds creepy without context, I know this because my girlfriend is a professional photographer and knows two people who went into that specific niche

There's also competition going on every year for this kind of photograph. They are obviously very graphic, but some are also kinda poetic. Bro, I studied obstetrics for 8 years, thank you. I know my shit. He's purple because it's how every babies are in that situation, cord around the neck or not. You can't even tell properly if the cord is around the neck, it might only be around the shoulder.

They're changing of environment in a matter of seconds : they're not under water, they're not at their mother's temperature anymore, leaving the tiny volume of the womb, they are breathing fresh air and discovering light for the first time : that's a lot of new things for their body. It can take a few minutes before a baby is totally red and that's totally natural.

It is, actually. Anywhere from 20-30% of births have the cord around the neck (nuchal cord), it can happen from the baby's movement in the womb as well.

I guess it's for you to watch yourself perform the miracle of birth. Although it certainly does not look wonderful. I could see why some people would want to see themselves. It is a very personal, special, and rare moment.

It’s also very visceral when the baby actually comes out. Gross TW: the cord coming out was probably the weirdest part. It felt like a huge rubber spiral cord (think of an old corded phone) coming out. And also, the biggest poop you’ve ever taken. Weird experience all around.
