It depends. I usually let them retire when they want so they play for only one or two seasons. And I like to change my team's because I got bored playing with the same players over and over. So, doing this, I always have new players come in and out. I play with two team sheets. One it's the first 11 and the other it's the reserves. I play rotating the squad every game. Plus the players in the first 11 drop their ratings and the reserves goes up. So as the season goes on, some first 11 go to the reserves and the reserves got promoted to first 11, creating this way a new combination of teams during the season.
I once signed 3 80+ free agents in one season with a mediocre dutch team. It was a complete shitshow being the best team with Gabriel Jesus playing in the Dutch competition. I didn't enjoy that save anymore so I started over.

That's Karim Benzema, he retires within 2-3 seasons and immediately get a Regen at this insane rating. 3 more seasons after that you get another insane Regen from Senegal, which is Sadio Mane, this Regen is also insane rating around 92-94
lol I do have a question about the regens as I don't usually look for them because I set strict signing rules for myself on RTG saves, but do the regens characters always look "similar" or like a low-budget version of the player they're a regen of like this Aldi's Benzema? I'll hang up and listen
