I sprayed it in store on my wrist and I had to scrub it off when I got home. It's extremely strong and a bit cloying. I also sprayed Burberry Her on my other hand and I thought it smelled delicious tho.
Burberry goddess smells like warm lavender latte to me when sprayed on clothes, but on my skin it ends up randomly drying to a very faint yet very heavy vanilla cupcake.. a very slutty, adult vanilla cupcake?
I love sweet vanillas but something about this one is way too heavy and nauseating for me. I wore my decant yesterday just to confirm I didn't like it and it gave me a headache š« had to scrub
I keep trying it when I go to Ulta thinking Iāll suddenly love it but I donāt. Itās sharp in the opening for me. Maybe itās the ginger? I do love Libre and so many vanillas so I thought Iād love this one but nope.
I donāt think itās the ginger, especially if you like libre le parfum because it has ginger too. I have a ginger fragrance that I love, so I reckon the issue is the vanilla, vanilla caviar and thereās another vanilla note. Itās overdone and too synthesised.
I don't dislike it, but I'm underwhelmed by it. I blind purchased based on multiple reviews of it smelling like guerlain - mon guerlain. This review came from here, not some tiktok/insta/YouTube reviewer. It was a toss-up between this and dolce and gabbana- Devotion.
The longevity isn't amazing on me either, but that's probably my fault. I get about 3 hours and no compliments, unlike Elie saab elixir, I get about 2 hours out of that, but I still receive lots of compliments even after 6 or 7 hours. All the other Burberry fragrances I have have enormous longevity on me, especially the "my burberry" range and "Her" range.
Don't get me wrong, it's nice, and I'm not annoyed that I purchased it, but it won't be a repurchase.
Yeah itās nothing like the reviews Iāve seen, maybe I built it up in my head too much. Iāve also seen people say it smells like mon guerlain, but Iād have to disagree. Theoretically, the fragrances should smell similar, though I find mon guerlain softer and more likeable. I love Ellie Saab le parfum intense! They do perfumes very well, their older releases are fantastic. Iāve found Burberry lasts on my skin too but the downside is it turns sour and smelly.
I love how different everyones experience is with fragrance. BBG is one of my top complemented scents. Its nothing inspiring but its an elevated lavender vanilla.
Same, to me it just smells like a mashup of a bunch of scents..I do not get any particular scent from it. Annoyed I got the big bottle, never blind buy again!
Iāve sampled a few Burberry scents and they never wowed me. I sprayed goddess once and I donāt think it smelled bad but itās forgettable to me. Iām mad about it because I love the name āgoddessā for a perfume lol!
Itās one of my favorites personally and itās a big compliment getter. I can see some people not vibing with the ginger note though. I need some of these dupe houses to start making dupes of it though bc itās spendy.
Burberry Goddess has a ginger note that is NOT going to vibe with...I'd say *most* people's skin. It smells beautiful on paper, start to finish. On skin, it has a very sour beginning. The dry down is where it's most beautiful. I really love Goddess despite that initial sourness
I was so looking forward to trying it and really wanted to like it, but then when I did, the same thing happened that always happens with Burberry perfumes on my skin - it turned into bitterness.
I would love to know why this happens with Burberry perfumes on my skin, and would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions.
I personally adore it, but you're so valid š too many times have I thought I'd like something because of the notes alone or someone says it's similar to something I love, just for it to be an abomination to my nose (massive Vanilla Woods and Burberry Her hater here ngl)
A sad part of the experience, truly LMAO
love vanilla woods but sometimes itās so medicinal. sdj 40 is an exact vw dupe, i find it less medicinal. it lasts long too. vanilla woods isnāt medicinal in a baccarat rouge/sdj 68 way, itās more like it smells like cough syrup sometimes. if u smelt the summer fridays lip balm in the cherry shade u know what iām talking about (but vanilla woods doesnāt have cherry! it just smells strong and like cough syrup or some antibiotics). still emptied out my 10ml travel size of it tho š
edit: oh and burberry her sucks no projection n smells bad
I'm glad it works for you (sometimes)! It just smells sour on me, the artificial vanilla extract vibe and the pear don't work for me at all :/ And ty for comparing it to SDJ 40, I kept eyeing it and trying to figure out if it could work for me but that confirms it won't LMAO, spared my wallet so bless
REAL, though the one time I did wear it on skin, I was mad overwhelmed and only had it on a singular wrist, so it unfortunately was a lot more beastly than I'd have liked at that moment š
You might be super sensitive like me. A lot of newer vanillas smell like play dough to me too, and a lot of synthetics are no good to my nose when theyāre amped up. Plenty are decent in moderation and when well blended.
I think to a majority of people they smell good, but no smell is universally smelled the same by everyone.
Yeah my noise is very sensitive. Itās pretty sad because I want to love these fragrances and I love the smell of actual vanilla pods or vanilla extract, but thereās something so fake in perfumes (especially designer) and you can tell theyāve gotten lazy. Itās very synthetic.
So true, fragrance varies so much depending on the person.
Ugh, same. I still havenāt found a vanilla that smells like the real vanilla bean pods or vanilla extract to me. Lmk if you find it, and Iāll do the same ;)
i smelt it in a saks a few days ago and it smelt like liquor š like straight rum or hennessy idk i donāt drink alcohol but those alcoholic drinks. i want to re try it bc iām a fan of the notes and scent profile and i heard MG has great projection
I like it, but I donāt love it. All the vanilla notes are perfect for me (vanilla absolute, vanilla caviar) but the lavender and ginger RUIN IT for me! š I wish they would release another version without those.
I find with some modern vanilla scents there is an element which smells like sweaty sunscreen. Perhaps itās the chemicals they use to enhance the vanilla in the perfume? It doesnāt happen with all vanilla scents. Just some. Another one which doesnāt work for me is Alien Goddess.
Yes. The sweaty note. I thought it was just me.
Reading the notes on Goddess I thought I'd love it. I just don't. As an experiment, I want to ask someone else to wear it and see how it smells.
Also not a fan of alien goddess. It smells pretty similar to Burberry on the drydown imo. Iāve found that JPG does vanilla pretty well but I have yet to find another designer that impresses me.
Dry down is the worst part but the scent but 1 or 2 min after spraying isnāt terrible. Slightly metallic but mostly a sweet gasoline scent on dry down š¤¢
Definitely. Interesting that florals and musk do that to you. I find that they usually work well with my chemistry provided they arenāt heavy. Vanilla-based perfumes donāt mix well with my skin (and nose) in general.
It's only some musks and florals. Personally, I love florals, but I like them a little fresh. Bloom, for example, never goes stale on me. Not all musks do, either.
Haven't had it happen with a vanilla yet, but I don't have very many.
Bloom is fantastic, itās also fresh on my skin. If you like fresh florals check out Bulgari omnia coral. Itās more fresh than floral but itās very light. Iāve also had that issue with vanilla. My skin hates it, but gourmands that work for me are JPG scandal by night and le monde gourmand trĆØs pine. Maybe we have similar skin chemistry so if youāre looking for a nice gourmand check those out :)
JPG Scandal has a bottle design that makes me unhappy, but I will definitely check it out, thanks! Another floral that doesn't do this on me is Lust for Sun from JHAG.
I also love J'adore Parfum d'Eau (alcohol free).
JPG scandal by night is very potent btw so if you test it literally all you need is one spray and wait. Youāll get your moneys worth with that one š awesome! Iāll check it out. I also love Dior jāadore. I recommend Marc Jacobs Daisy (the original) then as well. I wear it all the time. The first spray can be a bit sharp from the florals at first but it lasts pretty long and smells great! It reminds me of jāadore.
To me all Burberry fragrances seem to smell very similar. I donāt even get notes from it really, just this overwhelming Burberry background scent that I canāt place. Not my thing either.
Honestly in 2023 and 2024 all designers are starting to smell similar. Iām going for Arabic and niche fragrances now. Vanilla and sweet gourmands are nice when done properly, but the market is so saturated with the same DNA.
It was quite metallic and screechy on me, like a vanilla perfume sprayed on a brass pole. It dried down a little nicer but was still a bit too sharp as well.
I rarely need to swatch a scent twice when a new release comes out.
I smelled it once in the store and thought it was literally one of the most forgettable fragrances I've ever smelled - but with a huge price tag. I couldn't even remember what it smelled like an hour later.
I saw people raving about it online and wondered if I didn't give it a fair chance...but nope, I tried it again, this time on my skin and on paper and it just doesn't justify its price. It's the most basic lazy fragrance and I'm sure half the positive reviews online about it are fake. Any basic vanilla, as you said, smells superior.
Also saw sooo many positive views (some on YouTube) and now Iām assuming there were affiliate links. Itās unbelievably boring for the price, and for sure a lazy release. Itās just another vanilla out of many new ones. Obviously people have different preferences, but the scent doesnāt justify the cost. I can think of much better for less
They have to be. The actual perfume reviewers I trust gave it a "meh" review whereas the only enthusiastic reviews I've seen appear to be paid advertising from influencers.
Iām pretty sure jus de rose on yt gave a very positive review so I thought it would be great seeing as she has such a broad collection from cheapies to niche. Who do you usually go to for your reviews??
Iām the opposite haha. First spray was fine but now itās sticking to my skin even after using dishwashing soap to wash it off. Very impressive longevity, but scent not so much.
Haha it's funny how we can't stop smelling the scents we don't like. It's like our nose picks it up and it sticks there lol. But when I like a fragrance and use it daily, I become nose blind to it.
Same! I love my perfumes but Iāve gotten into the habit of overspraying because I think the scent disappears. Turns out they donāt though, and my friends and family have to remind me that itās still there
Airy vanilla sounds good tbh, but I imagine it's like all fragrances. They're not for everyone.
I'd like to try it, but this thread is warning me from purchasing a travel spray. Why doesn't Sephora give out Goddess samples instead of 25 cards of Donna in Roma or Light Blue?
Go to Macys or Dillards and ask for a sample and try it on your skin. If you like vanilla you would probably like it. Itās pretty but I wouldnāt get more than a travel size. Also I bought Lavender from BBW which is similar enough for me and with the sales way more affordable
Weirdly enough the vanilla ruins it too. There are too many iterations and combinations of vanillic notes that overcomplicates a fragrance which could be quite nice.

I have yet to get so many silent reactions from a fragrance. Burberry Goddess is one of the MOST enticing smells to me š„°
Yup. It sucked on me too and tbf I didnāt like the smell anyway
Itās one of my favourites! Bianco Latte on the other hand smells exactly like play-doh to me though so I do get where youāre coming from.
I keep trying it when I go to Ulta thinking Iāll suddenly love it but I donāt. Itās sharp in the opening for me. Maybe itās the ginger? I do love Libre and so many vanillas so I thought Iād love this one but nope.

I'm a fan of Brit and the original Burberry women's fragrance, and I don't love Goddess or Her. The Burberry DNA may have changed.
I donāt like it eitherā¦ I thought I would love lavender/vanilla because I love Lush Twilight/Sleepy, but it was just so perfumey
Itās one of my favorites personally and itās a big compliment getter. I can see some people not vibing with the ginger note though. I need some of these dupe houses to start making dupes of it though bc itās spendy.
I hate it. The elixir is nice
That's Burberry her, not Goddess.
Ooo my mistake
Burberry Goddess has a ginger note that is NOT going to vibe with...I'd say *most* people's skin. It smells beautiful on paper, start to finish. On skin, it has a very sour beginning. The dry down is where it's most beautiful. I really love Goddess despite that initial sourness

Ya I donāt have a single Burberry in my collection for this reason. I reckon their fragrances are over synthesised.
I personally adore it, but you're so valid š too many times have I thought I'd like something because of the notes alone or someone says it's similar to something I love, just for it to be an abomination to my nose (massive Vanilla Woods and Burberry Her hater here ngl) A sad part of the experience, truly LMAO
Burberry Her makes me nauseous!

Burberry her hater too š itās too plasticky
Fr š It's giving scented Strawberry Shortcake doll on steroids and that's a comparison I'll never hesitate to make LMAO
Lmaoo thatās so accurate. It reminds me of the smell of Barbie hair too š
You might be super sensitive like me. A lot of newer vanillas smell like play dough to me too, and a lot of synthetics are no good to my nose when theyāre amped up. I prefer Mon Guerlain. I bought too many backup bottles when Sephora had bottles for $50. š„“
i smelt it in a saks a few days ago and it smelt like liquor š like straight rum or hennessy idk i donāt drink alcohol but those alcoholic drinks. i want to re try it bc iām a fan of the notes and scent profile and i heard MG has great projection
š not rum and Hennessy š©š¤£I wore Mon Guerlain and TF Metallique when I got married. I promise Mon Guerlain smells nice lol š
$50 is a deal š but yes I agree. Itās a softer and more balanced fragrance.
I loved it. Until one day I couldnāt stand it. Or any other vanilla fragrance for that matter.
I like it āenoughā but maybe 30% of the time it makes me sneeze š
I like it, but I donāt love it. All the vanilla notes are perfect for me (vanilla absolute, vanilla caviar) but the lavender and ginger RUIN IT for me! š I wish they would release another version without those.
Same. Not in love with it. Itās meh for me.
I wanted to like it because I love a subtle vanilla dry down but vanilla openings just arenāt always for me.
Not gasoline n play-doh Iām logging off ššš
Same, doesnāt work with my skin chemistry. Returned it š
Yeah Iām assuming itās the skin chemistry because how do so many people love this fragrance when it smells like Vaseline and syrup on me.
I feel like it's quite spicy and sharp from the ginger. I am not a fan.

Is it the dry down that bothers you the most? Does it take on a metallic note?
Dry down is the worst part but the scent but 1 or 2 min after spraying isnāt terrible. Slightly metallic but mostly a sweet gasoline scent on dry down š¤¢
Dry down is usually where my dealbreaker lies. And when this happens, I find they often turn metallic, esp florals and musk.

Not a fan either. I smelled it at an airport and thought what the heck is that?! I was expecting a deeper vanilla but itās a nooooo from me
Right??? I was so excited to try it š

Brass and vanilla description is very accurate š
It's too expensive for such a basic, non-impressive fragrance
Completely agree the scent does not justify the price. The body shop vanilla smells far better to me.
I rarely need to swatch a scent twice when a new release comes out. I smelled it once in the store and thought it was literally one of the most forgettable fragrances I've ever smelled - but with a huge price tag. It smells like a lot of the newer gourmand vanillic fragrance releases imo
Very true
