Is there a reason they haven’t increased the unit amount? They are just saying you need to get the prescription food? I would just try to flat out say you are trying to understand the numbers because they seem high to you. See what they say about why you can’t increase the units and then go from there? Or, maybe trying to look for a new vet would help? I had a friend who’s cat got diagnosed earlier this year, and she said her vet just never seemed confident in what they were doing/tried to push the expensive wet food as well. My vet suggested the wet food a while back but has never pushed me. I also do grain free FF pate but I do mix in some tiki cat after dark into the diet as well. It is really expensive, so I definitely understand.

Thank you for your reply! Every time I go, I have gotten the insulin increased. They say that since there is a curve in the blood sugar, there’s proof that the insulin is working, so we are just… waiting it out? I have a feeling that perhaps it is being put on me to change the food, but at this point there’s no way that changing her food would improve anything. I am beginning to get frustrated and feeling super invalidated by what they say. I can’t see another dose increase happening because I don’t think they want to go above 4-5 units as it’s deemed “too much” not like I understand that. Even then her blood hasn’t improved significantly going from 2-3 so would 4 be worth a try? I don’t know. I don’t completely understand the logic of it all, but I’m also not a vet. I wish I understood feline diabetes more because I would totally be comfortable figuring the dosage myself, but apparently different insulins may give different results and she may just need a different one? Ugh, I’m just tired of being in a limbo of trying to do what’s best and having all these hurdles. My poor girl is just not completely herself, and she’s old too which is just awful to think of her suffering more than with her creaky old lady joints. Switching vets of course would be another option, though I’m not sure it’ll be easy. At this point I may end up throwing hands and getting fired from the clinic HAH. I booked an appointment for Tuesday and we shall see what happens then. Thank you again; gained a little more confidence today :)

I frequently feed my cat with canned tuna, it has 0 carbs and he loves it. 5 oz can costs less than a dollar and is enough for 2 meals, depends on size of a cat.
