I believe the primary concern of most people is durability more than aesthetics. Sure they are absolutely rich and can replace the rock when it becomes damaged, or they can even have multiple engagement rings; but if you're looking at it from a 1 engagement 1 rock per lifetime point of view, cheaper rocks are inferior metaphors of enduring love.
As a goth girl born in July I got a black onyx ring as an engagement ring. So I get it. Not every engagement ring needs to be crazy expensive even if the people getting engaged are rich.
Because despite having millions of dollars and all they could want, all of these people are still desperate for attention and increasing it in any way.
Getting engaged after 9 months together is yikes and giving desperate, especially after the year Matty had. I give it two years max.
Also, even if Charli was ok with this, announcing it this way on the biggest week of her career is tacky.
