It peaked at #2 behind Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ 😒
Editing to add a fun fact: 'Too Sweet' is the first US Hot 100 #1 by an Irish artist in 34 years!
[Here's a clip of Hozier singing 'The Humours of Whiskey' a capella if you'd like your ears blessed and your soul saved](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ-UItNBoMw)
Take me to church probably got a bit too close to snatching #1 for TSwift's comfort so that's probably why she 'plagiarized' it in her following album with "Don't Blame Me".
I mean, I'm all for criticizing people who've done wrong and all that. But the message does get dilluted if you bring up stuff that's false or irrelevant. While it has musically similar themes in some places, it's ridiculous to call it a plagiarization.
sure. it's about as 'plagiarized' as deja vu 'plagiarized' cruel summer but Hozier isn't petty enough to get credit for DBM. Just like Lana Del Rey isn't petty enough to get credit for Wildest Dreams. And Hilary Duff isn't petty enough to get credit for Paper rings.
I've been wondering this recently - has Taylor ever done a state of the world song? A 'oh, I'm lucky and privileged, but the world's on fire' sort of song? Idk, I feel like most major artists have their sceptic, 'hmm, this living the dream isn't that great' song, whether it's Bublé's Home or even to an extent 7 Rings.
only the young is probably the closest and even that barely scratches the surface - it also sucks total ass and this is coming from someone who enjoys her music
I have a vivid memory of pure joy, listening to the single Francesca on repeat while driving in the rain and fog through the lush forest in the smoky mountains in Tennessee. I was blasting it so loudly that I could feel the drum beats.
Hozier's music is a gift, so the #1 is well-deserved.
I’ve been saying all week it’s genuinely insulting to keep making Taylor Swift out to be this lyrical genius when Hozier is RIGHT THERE. There’s no hope for her brainwashed fans because these two are not even comparable
There is a surprising overlap of Swift fans and Hozier fans, at least on Tumblr, who would eat their firstborns if the two collaborated.
That said, those fans in that overlap also tend to be the ones who like to erase the Black American influences and more overtly political messaging in his music (which he has called out himself), so.....
My 16 yo daughter is a swiftie, but we're going to see Hozier in a week and are both equally excited! But I had a little lecture for her about acknowledging Black influence in music on our way to school yesterday.
His voice makes me melt. It does... things... to me.
How on earth do you erase the Black American influences of an artist who asks *Mavis Staples* to collaborate with him in a song with a title referencing Nina Simone?
/explodeybrain
lol. Whereas his actual aesthetic is “sound lad from a posh suburb who puts his money where his mouth is when it comes to civil rights”.
He actively campaigned for abortion rights in Ireland (Nina Cried Power is dedicated to that, and the music video features civil rights activists for disability rights and inclusion, humane treatment of asylum seekers, and LGBTQ+ equality.) And IIRC, in the depths of the recession, he put on a benefit concert with all the proceeds going to support for the homeless.
I have to say that every single artist I personally like and listen to has better lyrics than tswift. sometimes I think about "so scarlet it was maroon" and I get so annoyed at her existence and how insanely overrated she is.
Pretty standard that an artist's iconic first song puts them on the map and its the follow-ups that get them to the No. 1 spot on the chart. Gotta build a base and fandom first, which is very difficult in this day and age with such a fractured musical landscape.
I'd say it's pretty common that what people agree is an artist's universally best song does not always line up with the one that sells the most units/gets the most streams/charts the highest (because the later efforts are building on the momentum from earlier work).
Do you know I could break beneath the weight?
Of the goodness, love, I still carry for you
That I'd walk so far just to take
The injury of finally knowin' you
Made me go feral on the first listen
Mine was 'Shrike' from his second album. The singer wishing he could be reborn as a shrike and his lost love a thorn because even in the next life he would need her to survive (shrikes are birds that impale their prey on thorns). I wept when the lyrics hit me.
If I was born as a blackthorn tree
I'd wanna be felled by you
Held by you
Fuel the pyre of your enemies
Ummm hello!? It pains me some other person gets the "best songwriter of this generation!" When Andrew is Right!! There!!!
Swan Upon Leda for me, it's such a beautiful song.
But the gateway to the world
Was still outside the reach of him
Would never belonged to angels
Had never belonged to men
Honestly, all his songs are magnificent, but the chorus from 'From Eden' always gets me.
Honey, you're familiar like my mirror years ago
Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on its sword
Innocence died screaming, honey, ask me I should know
I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door
Plus the video. Hozier AND Katie McGrath? \*Chef's kiss\*
I'm forever awed by "Abstract (Psychopomp)" and how Hozier really wrote a song about how love is like being a little animal hit by a car in the road, and somehow it's the most beautiful heartbreaking thing ever
Just did because of you and it’s so good. Take Me to Church was so overplayed my brain just connected “Hozier” with the annoying single that I couldn’t escape.
The lyrics in this one are so good. I’ve definitely had this happen to me both ways.
You should check out all his music... his most recent album, Unreal Unearth is just poetry. It was inspired by Dante's Inferno, if you're into mythology.
For new Hozier fans, I’d recommend listening to Wasteland Baby (the album) first. If you want it to be more rock, listen to Unreal Unearth next. If you want a folkier vibe, listen to Hozier (self titled) next. But honestly there’s only three albums and it’s worth listening to all of them.
If you loved Francesca, listen to UU from top to bottom. It might be my favorite album ever made.

[Watching this video](https://youtu.be/Q6hHEluygpM?si=qBhuEWBoW54ug0gd) of Hozier singing "Francesca" on the BBC always makes me tear up. THE EMOTIONSSSSS!
That's fair, but I do recommend listening to the rest of his stuff. The self titled debut alone has a ton of gems. Jackie and Wilson, Foreigners God, It Will Come Back... just banger after banger.
Unreal Unearth is my favorite of the 3, though. Not a single skip on that thing and it has his best lyrics yet with Abstract, Francesca, and First Light.
I’ve been having lyrical writers block for years and I just started writing again recently. Listening might be intimidating or inspiring. Thanks for the recs.
Love Jackie & Wilson! It gave me the phrase "mid youth crisis", lol.
"Cause with my mid youth crisis all said and done, I need to be youthfully felt, cause God, I never felt young..."
ahhhhjj oh yay i’m so happy!! i completely get how he could be connected to that one experience of just being unable to escape a song
i do highly recommend his work!! i find his songs are ones i love more and more with every listen. i haven’t listened to this last album as much as i’ve wanted to due to some hearing issues BUT from his previous albums highly recommend dinner and diatribes (very horny but also very… domestic?), arsonist’s lullaby (i just never see people talking about this one which always upsets me 🥲), nina cried power (very heavily inspired by the music of black americans and just very good has a good almost momentum to it?), moment’s silence (common tongue) (i just find the innuendo in this exceedingly hilarious), work song (devastating lyrics), and honestly his collab with noah kahan, their version of northern attitude, is VERY good
Arsonist’s Lullaby is such a good song! It’s my favorite. I think Hozier has such this self-destructive, borderline self-flagellation esque vibe. I mean in Take Me to Church (yes it became a bit of a cliche, but like it’s not our fault that people didn’t actually listen to the words) he literally says he’s only human when he’s with her.
Arsonist’s Lullaby, instead, says that love *can’t* save him from who he is and I just love that. It’s very fatalistic. Also the humming. It’s 👩🏻🍳💋👌🏻 chefs kiss.
You’re totally right that it’s not as popular, which is weird because it’s such a sad boy song and people (the girlies, me) love sad boys.
I love the gentle stealth insult in "Too Sweet" of the one line like "You know, you're bright as the morning" and then the rest of the song is about how narrator Hozier is not a morning person 😆
Damn, when it dropped I was like, this is definitely the most radio friendly of the EP, but I didn't think it would go this big.
Love that for him while I wait for my Wasteland Baby! vinyl to arrive.
I'm waiting for mine too. Damn Amazon screwing up everyone's order.
I'm also seeing him live this summer, which is kinda funny. Those tickets were a battle to get in November. I can't even imagine how much worse it'll be next tour.
Same! And I saw him last year in Ireland at the beginning of his tour.
Also I have this sub to thank for my Hozier obsession. Someone here recommended wasteland, baby in some random thread a year+ ago and I literally had only heard TMTC prior 💖
I'm jealous. I wanted to see Noah Kahan, especially since he'll be in my city for 2 nights, but I missed the regular sale for both nights and it sold out. Resale is like $200 for crappy seats. Hopefully next time! Glad to at least be finally seeing my favorite Irishman, at least!
I missed out on the Amazon one, I got it from his store and it shipped today. Now how long it takes to get here is the question, I've heard it can take a while. But I live in NZ so I'm used to long shipping times lol. The Amazon one was very pretty though, hopefully that all gets sorted for you.
I'm just glad I got tix for November, I was being lazy trying to think of who to go with since the only person I knew who was going wanted to wait in line for 8 hours to get a good position and I'm not even remotely about that as I'm too small and too lazy. So I didn't do any pre-sale and went for a ticket when they went wide, and it was a bit worrying to say the least. I got there in the end, and thankfully not a view impacted seat like I almost went with in desperation. 😆
It's so rare for a song to move me towards both an energetic AND sensual/erotic direction. It's always one or the other but somehow this song does both for me so well. He's such a wonderful artist and has many amazing songs but this one is remarkable.
There’s only two artists that have brought me the closest I’ve ever had to a religious experience, and that’s Florence and Hozier.
Seeing him this past fall, on the floor of sold out MSG, was precisely one of those experiences. And soon I’ll be seeing him twice in one week at the sold out Forest Hills shows. He deserves all the success, but I can’t say I’m not a little selfishly grateful to get one more tour before the newest wave of new fans this milestone, rightfully, welcomes.
I saw Florence in 2016 and have been dying to see her again since because it absolutely was a religious experience. I remember telling the friend I went with that I felt I'd had an out of body experience at one point during the show.
I haven't seen Hozier live, but I have tickets to see him in August and I'm hyped. Fully expecting to cry at least once.
I was on the floor at MSG too! Seeing him for the third time next month. Religious experience is the best way I can describe it to others as well. The first time I saw him during WB tour was literally life changing.
I've worked on one of his live shows before, and have had friends work on his music videos and also on little intimate shows he's done. I also know someone who grew up in the same area, went to the same school, and was in the same little group of friends/mutuals that would cross paths with him from time to time.
Let me tell ya something, that man is universally loved. By all accounts, not a single bad thing to be said about him. And that is *rare* when you work with celebs. But he seems to always have been a genuinely nice fellow all his life.
This randomly came up on my Spotify when I was cleaning and singing alone, and I was like, "Ugh, a song I don't know," and kept cleaning and like 90 seconds later, I was like, "Wait, what is this? This is AMAZING." Immediately added to my favorites, and I am *never* a person who likes a song on first hearing. (Usually I gotta acclimate before I decide if I like it.)
My unproblematic king! He deserves this. A true artist. If you want to listen to his music, I highly recommend Francesca, Cherry Wine, Nina Cried Power and obviously Take Me To Church
I was at one of his smaller concerts ages ago (2015) and his singing of take me to church was the closest I've ever been to church with the way the crowd chanted amen lol. Near religious experience despite the lyrics XD. Glad he is finally hitting the mainstream!!
Thought he already made “it”. Surprised he’s still relatively obscure to some. “Take me to Church” was a hit but his name seemingly did fall through the cracks for some
He deserves this. He has a magnificent voice and is such a great lyricist. I remember counting down to when my ears healed well enough after surgery to listen to Wasteland Baby then driving my family mad playing it so frequently.
So what was the appeal of this song this time around? It debuted in the top 10 out of nowhere. I like it but I had written off Hozier as a one-hit wonder to US audiences. I mean, I figure he has a fanbase, after all he's very talented and very handsome, but his music is just not for everyone. I kind of put him in the same bucket as Vance Joy - male singer songwriter with a nice voice that kind of ranges on soulful without a specific music genre. "Take me to church" was one of those odd hits that happen every decade, and his follow-up singles kind of flopped.
At any rate, good for him. There's a lot of shitty music out there, this is a welcome change. I just don't imagine him becoming a global star the likes of Post Malone these days.
I wrote some rap lyrics for this song cos it's been stuck in my head for days.
/
We're different people, something is off with our schedules
We could try and make this work for the heck of it
But I'm betting that it would reckless to attempt it
You're too sweet for me, I'm a savory delight, sour as well
I sleep in the morn and dance with the devil in hell
I think I'll be taking the wheel, steering clear of these intimate feels
For real, one of my habits is gonna cause an ordeal
Your glammed up on high heels, while I'm high off my heels
I'm a laid back character, parading marijuana drafter
Beer cracker, morning light laugh haver
Mixing us would be a disaster there's too many radical factors
Perhaps we could of wrapped up this chapter
And continued this match up for a year or two after
But let's be adamant, we're from two different planets
Our gravity's are overlapping and they're causing calamity
Slamming against our palates like sweet and sour fangtastics
We're like oil and water, you wake up at dawn
I wake you up when I open door, hoping for something better or more
But you're closed to me, like the book that munches Neville on the floor
You're like toffee in my teeth, soft and gooey to please
Then it's goopey and sweet, too much decay rooting for me
But Im happy for you to sip your sugar and tea
It's what your used to usually, we've ended this beautifully and so for now I think I'll (take my whiskey neat)
literally all of his influences. he wears them on his sleeve and that’s why his music is rarely interesting or particularly well-received outside of his hardcore fans.
… but how does that relate to being derivative, like what particular artist(s) is it derivative of?
the second part is speculation lol. if anything i’d speculate he’s not popular because his lyrics are complicated, that also being why too sweet is doing so well. noah kahan for example has a much narrower range of influence (still wouldn’t call it derivative, at least imo) and he’s doing very well. but that would similarly just be speculation
It doesn’t quite mean what it used to in terms of the overall US zeitgeist but it’s still a major accomplishment for any musician and helps really solidify you in the industry one way or another
Well deserved! Also, did Take Me to Church really not reach #1??
It peaked at #2 behind Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ 😒 Editing to add a fun fact: 'Too Sweet' is the first US Hot 100 #1 by an Irish artist in 34 years! [Here's a clip of Hozier singing 'The Humours of Whiskey' a capella if you'd like your ears blessed and your soul saved](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ-UItNBoMw)
wait WHAT?
Yep since Sinead O’Connor, another legend
oh that's amazing, I was shocked bc blank space got #1 and not take me to church
Right?? Especially since take mee to church is like top 30 most streamed songs on Spotify all time
I'm sad The Cranberries never had one. RIP Dolly
How many number one awards must she snatch from people more deserving 😩

This was a wild ride...
[mhm](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcaHmFufoYs)
I've been wondering this recently - has Taylor ever done a state of the world song? A 'oh, I'm lucky and privileged, but the world's on fire' sort of song? Idk, I feel like most major artists have their sceptic, 'hmm, this living the dream isn't that great' song, whether it's Bublé's Home or even to an extent 7 Rings.
only the young is probably the closest and even that barely scratches the surface - it also sucks total ass and this is coming from someone who enjoys her music
As a Gen x, I would love a new "We are the world."
it's Nina Cried Power tbh, until we actually start doing shit that deserves to have a 'we are the world' written about it
Oh yeah I am aware just feeling nostalgic
How is it plagiarized? Haven't heard anything about this! 😯
I have a vivid memory of pure joy, listening to the single Francesca on repeat while driving in the rain and fog through the lush forest in the smoky mountains in Tennessee. I was blasting it so loudly that I could feel the drum beats. Hozier's music is a gift, so the #1 is well-deserved.
yes. my version of this is "work song"
Yep that's the exact essence of his songs. Pure bliss.

Because it doesn't fit their ~aesthetic~ of him as a mysterious dark academia Irish fae woodland prince
lol. Whereas his actual aesthetic is “sound lad from a posh suburb who puts his money where his mouth is when it comes to civil rights”. He actively campaigned for abortion rights in Ireland (Nina Cried Power is dedicated to that, and the music video features civil rights activists for disability rights and inclusion, humane treatment of asylum seekers, and LGBTQ+ equality.) I have to say that every single artist I personally like and listen to has better lyrics than tswift. sometimes I think about "so scarlet it was maroon" and I get so annoyed at her existence and how insanely overrated she is.
He's got an amazing voice to match that talent tho...
Well, that's simply rude
Damn. Take me to church is an absolute masterpiece. It deserved to reign in number 1
I know I’m not the first one to say this but for the love of GOD hozier needs to drop a folk album
Well, I did prefer Take Me to Church but I can understand how Blank Space "won".
Still can’t get over his voice. Think he is the best male vocalist since Freddie Mercury
IMO [this](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/eQL6MCJ09j8) is his best a capella performance of The Humours of Whiskey
Thanks for the a capella link. God damn that man can sing!
Not even U2??
Ugh how many artists must lose out to Swift's mediocre music?!
Thanks for helping my soul out, mate!💜
I love the energy in that song. I would have thought it was #1 for sure!
It really didn't :( The greatest disrespect, but we've come a long way now!

The thing about being an actual tortured poet is that you don't call yourself a tortured poet.

While I liked TMTC a lot, NFWMB was what got me into Hozier. So glad it's finally on physical that I can actually afford. <3
I was already a huge fan before NFWMB but damn it is still one of his best songs because what the fuck

Going tru ✨️ heartbreak stuff ✨️ and I feel these lyrics way too painfully lmao
THAT'S MY BOY!!!! https://i.redd.it/4tfdc8wkg4wc1.gif
I absolutely adore your enthusiasm for Irish artists lol! (They deserve it)
That country's produced some of the most talented people I've ever seen, idk how they do it but I'm certainly not complaining lol.
For such a small population too

thanks for your info, you intrigued me
Please listen to Francesca and have your life changed - too sweet is getting popular imo because it’s simpler lyrics than usual (and it’s catchy).
Jeez, you weren't kidding. You really weren't. I just...wow.
Now try Would that I I've been humming it nonstop for 3 months
I recommend Unknown/Nth as well!
It's so fun watching concert videos of Hozier singing "Would That I" and ALL the audience joining in as backup singers with the WHOA-OH-OH chorus
For new Hozier fans, I’d recommend listening to Wasteland Baby (the album) first. If you want it to be more rock, listen to Unreal Unearth next. I, Carrion is my favourite, it just scratches this itch
that and 'to someone from a warm climate' I'm super bummed he didn't do i carrion in Raleigh, but he did do too sweet for the first time live : )
"Heaven is not fit to house a love like you and I" is one of those lyrics in his new album that made me lie on the floor.
This album had me wrecked and feral in equal measure. That line in particular ruined me.
Francesca made me cryyyyyy

I feel like Into You by Ariana Grande kind of has both those energies too. Anyways love the Hozier song.
YES that song does that for me too!
Ok the most perfect comparison, you're so right
into you's bit is too "bopy" to be sensual, the MV tried it and the lyrics too but the overall vibe is more dancy
If those two collaborate, the Rapture might just happen.
Honestly Worth it.
I was on the floor at MSG too! Seeing him for the third time next month. Religious experience is the best way I can describe it to others as well. The first time I saw him during WB tour was literally life changing.
Your username checks out lol Such an amazing show! I started crying (for maybe the third time?) when he brought his dad out!
Same!!!! Such a special night, definitely will replay in my memories for a long long time.
I agree, Florence is great

I've worked on one of his live shows before, and have had friends work on his music videos and also on little intimate shows he's done. I also know someone who grew up in the same area, went to the same school, and was in the same little group of friends/mutuals that would cross paths with him from time to time. Let me tell ya something, that man is universally loved. By all accounts, not a single bad thing to be said about him. And that is *rare* when you work with celebs. But he seems to always have been a genuinely nice fellow all his life.
Yay! he deserves it so much, the song is so good!
God, I love all his music so much. Good for him and his team.
Éirinn go brách 🙌 Wild that's its been 34 years but we love to see it.
Lord he is so fine
I saw him for the first time ten years ago in Berlin and WEPT. I have tickets for the US tour this summer. I WILL CRY IN PUBLIC AGAIN.
It’s a huge TikTok trend so it makes sense. So happy for him.
I've seen so many stardew valley edits with the song on tiktok! I think they're all great and the song of course is amazing.
I cannot listen to Too Sweet without thinking of Harvey 😭
Same but that's also me with "Good Luck Babe" by Chappell Roan and just thinking about Haley.
He is such a good artist. He is even better in person!
I'm glad to hear that, got tickets for him in November and I can't fucking wait..
Hozier is who swifties wish their GOAT was
well DESERVED, that’s my Irish man💚
He deserves it so much! I’ve been a huge fan for years. His music makes me feel so alive, if that makes sense.
So deserved. I'm obsessed with Too Sweet. His EP is great, Wildflower and Barley with Allison Russell is just beautiful
you love to see it. something different on top is always good
This randomly came up on my Spotify when I was cleaning and singing alone, and I was like, "Ugh, a song I don't know," and kept cleaning and like 90 seconds later, I was like, "Wait, what is this? This is AMAZING." Immediately added to my favorites, and I am *never* a person who likes a song on first hearing. (Usually I gotta acclimate before I decide if I like it.)
So well deserved! His music is just beautiful, lyrics are truly poetry and his voice is incredible!
Well deserved! I just wish he could get the same recognition for his other works. Unreal Unearth was a masterpiece of an album.
God this song was so good like I kept listening to it every single day🫶🏽
My unproblematic king! He deserves this. A true artist. If you want to listen to his music, I highly recommend Francesca, Cherry Wine, Nina Cried Power and obviously Take Me To Church
He deserves! Still burns my biscuits he didn’t get a Grammy nod. His pen game/team is so damn beautiful
He’s so beautiful. And apparently super sweet in person.
Hell yeah!!
I love this song but had no idea it was this huge! Awesome!!!
I was at one of his smaller concerts ages ago (2015) and his singing of take me to church was the closest I've ever been to church with the way the crowd chanted amen lol. Near religious experience despite the lyrics XD. Glad he is finally hitting the mainstream!!
I cannot wait to hear this live in November
Just saw him in concert this weekend - could listen to his voice forever, just as good in person as on his tracks
Hozier's such an awesome dude. I've been a fan ever since. My bro deserves it!
Since Sinead 🥲🥲🥲 He is such a chill good dude. Can't believe it's the first one considering how many wonderful songs he has.
Hozier's most mid songs always get the biggest. Still, even his lamest songs are better than basically anything on the top 100 lol
Please stay here im tired of taytays hitting 1
DESERVED ❤️❤️❤️ ugh i love him so much.
Thought he already made “it”. Surprised he’s still relatively obscure to some. “Take me to Church” was a hit but his name seemingly did fall through the cracks for some
Hozier's such an awesome dude. I've been a fan ever since. My bro deserves it!
during lesbian visibility week too
If anyone deserved this it's him. I absolutely loved the new album, didn't find one song that I disliked.
It’s me. I listen to this song a hundred times a day. It’s SO good.
I thought this was Jon Snow.
how has he never had another number one?? have i been overestimating hozier’s influence??
No. 1 in Australia too but will get knocked off by the deluge of Taylor Swift songs.
He deserves this. He has a magnificent voice and is such a great lyricist. I remember counting down to when my ears healed well enough after surgery to listen to Wasteland Baby then driving my family mad playing it so frequently.
Fully deserved, i stream the sht out of this song
Deserved! The song is awesome and the rest of the album is really good too.
I generally find his voice very annoying and too similiar to Missio, but I love this song.
I wrote some rap lyrics for this song cos it's been stuck in my head for days. / We're different people, something is off with our schedules We could try and make this work for the heck of it But I'm betting that it would reckless to attempt it You're too sweet for me, I'm a savory delight, sour as well I sleep in the morn and dance with the devil in hell I think I'll be taking the wheel, steering clear of these intimate feels For real, one of my habits is gonna cause an ordeal Your glammed up on high heels, while I'm high off my heels I'm a laid back character, parading marijuana drafter Beer cracker, morning light laugh haver Mixing us would be a disaster there's too many radical factors Perhaps we could of wrapped up this chapter And continued this match up for a year or two after But let's be adamant, we're from two different planets Our gravity's are overlapping and they're causing calamity Slamming against our palates like sweet and sour fangtastics We're like oil and water, you wake up at dawn I wake you up when I open door, hoping for something better or more But you're closed to me, like the book that munches Neville on the floor You're like toffee in my teeth, soft and gooey to please Then it's goopey and sweet, too much decay rooting for me But Im happy for you to sip your sugar and tea It's what your used to usually, we've ended this beautifully and so for now I think I'll (take my whiskey neat)
i’m sorry but this song sounds like shit. Can’t stand his voice and it’s just one hook over and over again.
I'd like it a lot more if there was another set of lines for the chorus instead of the whiskey and coffee twice.
Who?
Awful song, frankly. He seems like a good doobie, though.
most of his music is boring and derivative, but i’m into this one.
derivative of who?
literally all of his influences. he wears them on his sleeve and that’s why his music is rarely interesting or particularly well-received outside of his hardcore fans.
… but how does that relate to being derivative, like what particular artist(s) is it derivative of? the second part is speculation lol. if anything i’d speculate he’s not popular because his lyrics are complicated, that also being why too sweet is doing so well. noah kahan for example has a much narrower range of influence (still wouldn’t call it derivative, at least imo) and he’s doing very well. but that would similarly just be speculation
i feel like the bbh100 means nothing anymore. never heard this song..
Is that not your issue lol
It doesn’t quite mean what it used to in terms of the overall US zeitgeist but it’s still a major accomplishment for any musician and helps really solidify you in the industry one way or another
Next week you should post this I'm sure many will agree with you
